Pro: the laborers at Thomas Landscapes can do good work. Cons: management and the business side of this company are bad. The first review of Thomas Landscapes should have been a warning sign. Promises of calls will go unmet. Polite follow-up emails will be met with hostility. Sub-contractors will not articulate the scope of work. Good receipts and invoices are not automatic. And dealing with management leaves you wishing you picked a different company.

We have Derek come twice a year to do everything basically. I don't know how we would manage without him after all this time.

Derek Thomas was great. We made an appointment for an estimate (he is available by phone and email). We were able to schedule an appointment about a week later. Derek arrived on time, spent a lot of time discussing our needs, and made recommendations. His team then arrived on the date/time agreed to, and they did a fantastic job cleaning up our front and back yards (very small front area on Capitol HIll, and back yard/patio about 25' x 15'). In addition to just needing some TLC, the trees and shrubs had been damaged in the winter storms. A series of shrubs had been tied back, and a few months after they were tied one of the ties broke. I called Derek and his crew came by less than a week later to retie the shrub, and to check on the plants they had planted (the very hot, dry weather has been tough on all greenery). We will continue to use Thomas Landscapes as needed, and I highly recommend them. NOTE: Derek also maintains a small park area (about 30' x 30') in the alley behind a series of row houses, including ours, in SE, and has done a fantastic job. It includes grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers.

They were very professional and very amiable. They had very good ideas. They did a wonderful job. They were good communicators. They were quite pricey. You pay for what you get which is you pay market rate for above market rate market, but you get a very good job.

They are excellent. We have been using them for about 3 years. The price depends on everything they do. Typically they do the clean up, mulching and pruning. Sometimes, they even bring more plants for me. They really take their time when they are here and do a nice job. They do great cleaning up.

After calling twice to set up an appointment, I finally got a call back and scheduled a 9:00 a.m. meeting with the owner. I stayed home from work for the consultation, but Mr. Thomas never arrived. When I called at 9:35 a.m. to inquire, it was clear that he had forgotten the appointment. Rather than admit that, he proceeded to tell me that he had been stuck in traffic on the Rock Creek Parkway and had no cell phone service until -- conveniently -- the moment I called. There are far too many companies willing to provide landscaping services to have to deal with this lack of professionalism.

One of the things that was most impressive is that they called us back immediately for the estimate. He always shows up promptly and calls if he is going to be late. We haven't received this level of service with other landscapers that we have used.

They worked very fast and they cleaned up everything when they were done. The crew even took all the debris away and now they come back to follow-up because we have a continuing service agreement. I would highly recommend their work.

Derek is very knowledgeable and takes as much time as needed to understand what a good design would be for an individual. He came in much less than others who provided estimates and spent much more time designing the property and making sure it worked. He was always prompt, and actually planted the landscape a day before he had committed to. His website is excellent to view. I would highly recommend Derek to anyone interested in quality work for a great price. He works solely in the city of Washington, DC
