Response from Zerodraft Maryland
As the owner of a company which provides itself on expert home performance knowledge and service, I'm disappointed to see a rare negative review. However, I'm very surprised to see that someone who did not even use our installation service would go to the trouble to complain that our price was too high. It is certainly this homeowner's right not to use us, or any other contractor whom she considers too expensive, but it is unusual practice indeed to publicly accuse a business whom you have not engaged, and in an industry with which one is likely unfamiliar, of being too expensive. I'd like to briefly point out that the reviewer did engage us to perform a standard home energy audit for $100. This includes extensive diagnostic testing with thousands of dollars worth of equipment, as well as an array of energy-saving materials, worth up to $150, and included in the audit price (these include up to 12 CFL lightbulbs, 2 showerheads and faucet aerators, pipe insulation, and other items). This cost also includes input into the official BGE system so that a homeowner is eligible for BGE rebates, using any participating BGE contractor. Most people will agree that the value of this professional service far exceeds $100, and it is a shame that this was left out of the review. Furthermore, the reviewer may not be acquainted with the high costs of two-part spray foam, which is our preferred airsealing material and which constituted the bulk of this proposal. As a matter of fact, while we're not the cheapest home performance contractor on the block, we're very far from the priciest. I sincerely wish this reviewer well in locating another contractor that meets her expectations. - Kurt
