15 months out of the install the unit failed. As a Carrier unit I would have expected a longer length of time prior to it failing, but that is out of their control. After accepting their service agreement I didn't hear anything back that Thursday night. After not hearing anything I called the following Tuesday and was told they'd email the "Parts Manager." With no response I've each day and get the same thing "We'll email the Parts Manager." Still not response with ETA. Having to order the part may be out of their control, but not getting back to a customer when their AC is out in August is a complete failure of customer service. I hope this isn't the normal McCrea Way for anyone else.

Brian and Ray H. arrived at 8:00 a.m. and started working immediately and they both worked very late to ensure that everything had been installed correctly. They had a lot of work to do in order to install more modern equipment. Both Brian and Ray H. were very professional and kept us informed on what they were doing. We really appreciate both of them because they made sure that these two old people had heat once again. We would hire McCrea again.
Description of Work: Our old furnace died and they replaced the furnace and our AC unit.. They added both units that are more energy efficient.

We've had generally positive experiences with McCrea. In July we had an issue with our secondary A/C unit - a minisplit that was leaking into the room. $109 for the technician to come out. When they came, the repair was small - clearing a drainage line. Called back within 30 days because the leak did not resolve, McCrea said they would send someone back out, no charge. We had some challenges and rescheduling, leading to a misunderstanding that we would be charged for a technician having to return. On that basis, I left some negative reviews online - to which McCrea responded, reaching out via phone to set an appointment for a technician to come out. Two technicians came today and spent a good deal of time fixing our initial issue. They went above an beyond in fixing the unit, remounting, and appropriately sealing the unit to the wall. On the basis of this, I'm changing my review of working with McCrea to a 5-star experience. Some miscommunication happened on both ends - we're all human - but their willingness to make things right really shows a business that values integrity. Would use again.

First of all, I never had problems with McCrea until after I signed a contract with one of their McCrea Representative at a Home Depot Store. I made an appointment for 7/1/2020 for a Technician to come out to perform Diagnostic of my Non-Working AC Unit. The Technician that came out, I never met before and don't want him ever coming out again. The Technician perform the Diagnostic and told me he did something with the AC Unit, but wasn't sure how long it would last and stated because of the age of my AC Unit he recommend I get a new one. I told him I needed the Diagnostic in writing. He stated they don't give you the paperwork, so I told him I will not be making a decision about anything until I get it in writing. So, he said he can send to me by email. So, what started really bothering me about this Technician it took him a long time to get around to writing up the Diagnostic and I went looking for him. He was in his Truck, so, I asked him will he be coming in to explain the situation to me and give it to me in writing. He said he would be in soon, I waiting about another 10 minutes or so, and went back to his Truck to asked again, when will he come in to give me the Diagnostic and give it to me writing and told him I had places to go, so, please come in soon. He finally did and stated again, that I would be maybe paying for work to be done that might not last long. Suggested again I should purchase a new one. I asked for the Diagnostic again in writing. He took my email address, but never sent it to me. I called the office twice for it and finally the Maryland Operations Manager contacted me and sent it to me via email. He also stated I had to go to Home Depot to pay the Diagnostic Fee for which I found out later not only did I get Two Invoices from him, some other number, and Home Depot stated in person because I went to the Oxon Hill Store in person to find out they couldn't find the Invoice Numbers and the other number he gave me, but, that McCrea was to take my Diagnostic Fee Payment. So, it gets more challenging. I had my Bank send Home Depot the payment in July, I thought that matter was taken care of, but, when I contacted McCrea in August via their On-line schedule, I got a phone call from them cancelling my Appointment for 9/1/2020 because they say I am delinquent for the Diagnostic Fee, the one they should have collected. So, I call Home Depot recently to find out the Invoices Numbers I received are incorrect and they have to locate my payment. I have been waiting for the email for about 4 Days now. McCrea wants Home Depot to contact them directly to clear my name. McCrea is contracted with Home Depot to provide HVAC Services for Home Depot. I will never deal with McCrea again. This is my Second time having problems with McCrea over the Diagnostic Fee situation.

I couldn't be happier with the service I received from McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning Services of Maryland. Upon returning from vacation on a 100 degree July day, I found my old HVAC system basically dead (90 degrees in my kitchen!) ... Shane immediately came out to provide an estimate, we signed a contract on the spot, and he kindly provided some freon to hold me over until the new system could be installed. Brian and Nick showed up exactly on time to install the unit, used drop cloths to protect my flooring, and were exceedingly polite and professional throughout. I'd highly recommend this organization.

Rob Rhea was very professional and showed exceptional workmanship when replacing and installing my Aprilaire Dehumidifier. Very pleased with McCrea to date. I have interacted with Kevin (generator), Brandy (office), Robert (sales/estimate), and Vincent (technician). All professional and friendly to deal with. The service men were very knowledgeable and so kind to take the time to explain the subject matter they were each tasked to address on 2 separate days. They respected our home and our concerns. We have dealt with many companies on similar issues over the years, but this was by far our best experience.

I have had a service contract with McCrea Heating and Cooling since I purchased my condo unit new 7 1/2 years ago which included 2 maintenance visits a year. My current contract expired yesterday so I called to renew my service contract and upgrade from "Bronze" to "Silver." The representative took my charge card information over the phone. I asked if the contract was in effect as of today. They said "yes." Then I tried to schedule a service call (my unit was serviced a little over a month ago and now the condo wasn't cooling.) I was told then that the Silver Contract would NOT be in effect after all. The difference in price between Bronze and Silver is the cost of a diagnostic visit so they were getting the money one way or another. My long time history with the company did not persuade them to honor the contract I had just paid for. They wanted to charge me $98 to have my problem diagnosed under the Bronze contract that I pointed out was already expired. I was told the representative "misspoke" and should have told me they would have to send out someone to determine whether the furnace they have been maintaining for the past 7 years (with the most recent service call just a month ago) would "qualify" for the Silver plan. So, I cancelled the order for the Silver Plan. I called another company who came out for $30 and determined the problem was a clogged condensation drain. This drain was supposed to have been "blown out" when the regular maintenance was done by McCrea just a month ago, but obviously was not. The water was backed up in the drain pipe and filled the pan under the furnace/AC unit which turned off the AC. Now that everything is working again, I am seeking a different maintenance service plan provider. McCrea has competitive service contract prices, but if they have no customer loyalty, and the maintenance work is not done properly, maybe it's a question of "you get what you pay for."

2 summers ago I replaced my 20 year old original AC unit with one recommended, sold, and installed in my home by McCrea. Within the first week after they installed the new unit, it was apparent the unit was not effectively cooling my home. The inside temperature frequently was 5 - 7 degrees higher than the thermostat setting. It was uncomfortably warm and humid in my house. Despite numerous complaints and delayed service calls, McCrea's representatives insisted it was the correct unit for my size home and was fully operational. They continued to insist this even after witnessing the 6 degree disparity in the inside temperature and thernostat setting which they installed. I told them that my previous unit was most satisfactory for nearly 20 years. But the one they installed never cooled effectively. Despite multiple calls, McCrea never took responsibility for accountability for installing an ineffective, substandard AC system. They never offered to replace, refund, or discount the sale. This is now our 3rd uncomfortably hot summer with the system they installed and failed to take responsibility for. I have never written a negative review in my life but felt obligated to warn other buyers about McCrea's poor products and irresponsible customer service.

Vince and Jeffery came and fixed the wires that the squirrels had chewed. They were knowledgeable, considerate, polite, and just all around excellent. I purchased my heating system and duct work from McCrae a few years ago. Time and again, they have provided the best service of ANY home service provider that I have ever had. (I mean their service is the best among all the service providers I've ever had: plumbers, electricians, handymen, tree service. Thank you MacCrea!

I found this firm on AL and based on the ratings, I hired them to do an annual service check-up on my heat pump. The technician arrived promptly on the date and time we set up. He was thorough, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I asked him to clean a dusty wall grate and he did it without complaint or additional charge. And $69.95 is more than reasonable for this work. I will definitely use McCrea to service my heat pump from now on.

The two person crew arrived on time and installed the heat pump out in the rain under a 10' pop up tent and replaced the air handler. The whole job was complete before the end of the day.

It has only been one month but so far everything seems to be working fine. It just so happen that t my system was still under warranty therefore parts and labor cost me nothing at all.
Description of Work: The first visit they searched for Freon leak in the system and found it. Secondly they came back and installed a new coil system in place of the leaky one and so far no problems.

The reason for my ratings are explained below: Tim (the technician) was personable, helpful, hard working, thorough, and committed to solving the problem. So as far as the quality of the repair I will rate them an A. The Office personnel were rude, hung up on me multiple times without attempting to call me back, ignored/lacked compassion when I asked for an emergency visit to repair my A/C during a heatwave in the summer (where my unit temperature was over 86F). The office personnel are the reason why all other metrics are scored so poorly, D-F. After I was finally able to talk to them, they said they would add me to the schedule for that day (Friday). When a technician was not able to come after all, they did not call to alert me of this before leaving the office for the day. When I attempted to check in after 5pm, I was only able to reach an answering service. After a long weekend without A/C I was finally able to get a service appointment for Monday. Even after the long period without service, I was the last person the technician visited that day (he arrived after 5pm.) This seems to be because they are short-staffed for technicians, which seeing how the Office personnel behave I can completely understand. If you call to ask when to expect the technician (so you can plan your life, and maybe get some work done, or avoid the heat) they can tell you one of two things "before 12 pm", or "after 12 pm" and refuse to provide any clarity beyond that except maybe "You are the next person on the schedule" which might mean "you'll be helped 3 hours from now". The technician left several notes on the work order, alerting the office that the first visit had not completed the repair and that they should contact me for a follow up visit. They did not read the work order, and did not contact me. I contacted them, and they seemed upset to hear my unit had not been repaired correctly. I got a follow up appointment, finally, a week after the first one (that Friday). Tim was then able to ascertain that the problem was caused by a faulty component, that was actually recalled by the manufacturer of the A/C unit. He placed an order for the part, and told the office and his manager to contact me as soon as the part came in so we could schedule a third appointment to finally repair the issue. He plans to prioritize me in the schedule so I can finally get the unit repaired, after 3 weeks of summer heat wave without A/C. When I spoke to the office today, they seemed unaware of this and asked for a review. If it wasn't for Tim (who I have complete faith in), and the fact that I am locked into a warranty provided by the company that built my unit, I would have sought an alternative company to repair the unit. But I only moved in a month ago, and cannot afford to seek repair service out of warranty. Overall I am extremely dissatisfied with the service. I will hire them again until my warranty expires, and because of my faith in the technicians attitude and commitment to helping me.
