Maggio Roofing Co. were really professional. The estimator that came out really knew what he was talking about. A couple of the other people I got estimates from just sort of were like, "Oh, yeah, I think it's this." With this guy, it was pretty clear he knew his business and then when they actually came to do the repair, same thing. It was a very professional team and very courteous. They got right to work and did a good job.

Everything went very smoothly, they were backed up because of storm damage but let us know in advance when the work would be performed and delivered on time.
Description of Work: Maggio put a new roof on our house and fixed a leak as well. Great service and quality. The sales pitch takes way too long and seems really scripted. Cutting the pitch down to 30 min would have been appreciated. Otherwise, Maggio delivers and did great work.

Response from Maggio Roofing Co
Thank you for your review. I understand that it took a long time to explain the offers. Our company goal is 100% customer satisfaction. Many industry surveys have concluded that customer dissatisfaction results from either a miscommunication or unrealized expectation. For that reason, we strive to educate every prospective customer about the problems they are experiencing and the solutions that Maggio can provide. If it took a little longer, we apologize but we know that the roofing solution we provide is supposed to last 50+years! Again, thank you for your review and your business.

When he came out to give me my free estimate he did not bring a ladder or anything other than a clipboard. He wanted me to give him names of other people that need a roof. He told me I needed a whole new roof, he said he does not do spot repairs only new roofs. He never did call me back with an estimate. I did not get his name off AL but saw his car when I driving and contacted him. After he came out I looked him up on AL and he did not have great reviews.

I must apologize for the experience that you had with my company. This is not our ordinary procedure with dealing with the public. I have researched this and found that the sales consultant that was assigned to your project (who was dismissed from our company) just failed at doing his job. I could give you excuses about his health (which was the cause of his problems) but I don't think that this is why he did what he did (or in this case...didn't do). I have no excuse for why he told you the things that he did. We, in fact, do perform repairs. In fact, we have an entire roof maintenance division. In the odd chance that you have not had work completed or it was not completed to your satisfaction, I would like to offer you a special coupon worth 30% off any work that you choose to perform with us. Please ask for the owner (me), Scott Siegal, and I will make sure that we don't drop the ball again. Again, please accept my sincere apologies for any trouble we may have caused you.

The do a great job, Edgar the job foreman is easy to work with and extremely concerned about customer satisfaction. The job was completed on schedule and they kept the grounds clean daily while completing the work. The solar panles are done by a third party and they were not the most punctual. It took a few months to get all the permits completed and to actually have the panels up and running. I had to stay on Maggio to help with pushing through the SREC contract, but it finally got completed and is worth between $300-$600 per quarter. I have seen about a 20-30% reduction in my electric bill per month from the solar panels, a little more even in the summer. Between the federal tax credit, the DC solar rebate, SRECs and the actual energy production my break even point for the panels is a little over 2 years. I would recommend Maggio for roofing or solar roofing projects, they do a great job and are easy to work with. I had a leak in the roof that they completed a few years ago and they were easy to get a hold of and called frequently after the repair to ensure that no further leaking occurred.
Description of Work: I have had Maggio replace two different roofs over the last few years. One a shingle roof and the most recent was the fibertite flat roof with solar panels.

It was easy to schedule the appointment and the guy came out and walked us through what he recommended we do. I liked that they e-mailed us a very thorough explanation of all the materials, etc., when they sent the formal estimate a few days later. BUT their price was nearly double what we were quoted by the company we ended up using (which was much higher rated on Angies list than Maggios) and included some stuff that other roofers told us was unnecessary. It was hard not to think we were being seriously upsold and hard to see where the extra value would be in using the more expensive bid. I think Maggio's offered a longer warranty on the work than the company we went with, but again, it didn't seem to justify the much higher cost. So we went with the other company.

Description of Work: I called about an estimate. Salesman came over. Said he would get back to me. Never got back. When I called there seemed to be a misunderstanding about whether or not I would call him or he would call me. I was told the saleman was very busy and they would send someone else out. Another person came out. Said he would get back to me. Never did. I concluded that they had bigger projects than me and not calling back was their way of telling me that. Would have appreciated a call that said my project was too small, they were too busy, etc.

I did not end up using the services of the company because I never got the estimate. He arrived without a ladder long enough to reach the roof and only checked the front porch problem. He promised to come back the next day with a ladder to check the roof. I was at home all day and never saw him. After one of their guys came over and wasted one hour of my time with chit chat, he wanted to come out to our house a second time to explain what work they would need to do. I asked him not to come over and send me the estimate through email or phone instead because I am too busy to spend another hour to hear what work needs to be done (I already knew from other estimates). I never heard back from him.

I contacted Maggio to get an estimate to replace my leaking roof. I also inquired about the cost of putting a tarp on my roof, which they said would cost $650. (In contrast, the company I ended up going with did this for free). The person who came to do the estimate did not go onto the roof which I found unusual. Was definitely a sales guy. He said he was very familiar with roofs in the area and knew the builder. Since my house was built in 1929, I found this unlikely. He also shared many of his negative impressions of other roofers, which I thought was unprofessional, and made sweeping statements like "buyers pay more for a house with a Maggio roof" and "if you tell an inspector that we did your roof, he won't even bother to go up and inspect it because of our reputation". He insisted on presenting the estimate at a later appointment in person and was unwilling to send it to us before the appointment, which I found inefficient and irritating. Ultimately, Maggio's backlog meant waiting two months for the job to start so we went with another company. On a positive note, the salesperson was knowledgeable about solar roofs and tax credits. He said Maggio did more solar roofs in DC than any other company. He had a good working knowledge of the mechanics of solar roofs.

Maggio Roofing was great. Steve was a great representative. He spent plenty of time explaining everything to us, and then answering all of our subsequent questions. The work was done on-time, as scheduled, as described, and as quoted. Their workers were excellent, very friendly, and very professional. We are extremely happy with the work provided. Our new skylight does not leak, our gutters do not overflow, and our upstairs is easily 5 to 10 degrees cooler in the summer because of the elastomeric coating.
Description of Work: Maggio replaced our skylight (had to order a custom-sized skylight to replace our old leaking skylight); replaced our gutters with larger, covered gutters; replaced our downspout; and applied a elastomeric coating to our roof.

The guy gave me a price for something that I didn’t enforce. His price was outrageous. That’s why I didn’t go with him. It was a free estimate. He quoted me about $20000 and that included things that I didn’t want to really do. I wanted to spend $2000. He didn’t want to do anything out of his proposal and didn’t want to scale down. So, I didn’t use him. He was responsive though.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Maggio Roofing Co almost a year ago. I had a leak on the roof and I wanted the leak repaired. However, the guy gave me a proposal to replace the roof and to install solar panels on the top of my roof.

Not the lowest cost bid, but had experience with company from insurance work in 2004. Had a combination of Grand Manor shingles and metal roofing work done. At the end of the day, I think I got bad advice about selecting shingles vs. metal for my application and the metal roof, although probably installed correctly to industry standards ended up with multiple seams which could have been prevented with better anticipation and needs analysis on the sales end. Now I have this lifetime roof that is not what I expected for the rest of my life.

Response from Maggio Roofing Co
We were asked to bid a job that an architect drafted and provided blueprints for. The builder built the structure larger than the plans called for. We could not install a seamless metal roof. I'm sorry that the owner is upset with the looks of the metal. In addition, it should be noted that the original project was never paid in full from 2004. We were left with a substantial balance on that project (over $13,000!). The insurance company was supposed to pay for the work, but never fully paid for the roof. They only paid for half of the project and we couldn't get the owner or insurance company to reimburse us for our time and work. Normally when insurance companies don't pay, the owner's get involved to make sure that we get paid. The issue with this was the house originally had wood shakes and the owner insisted that we install lifetime asphalt shingles (which were more expensive than the wood). The insurance company then wouldn't pay the claim as we didn't replace the roof with what they paid for. The owner wouldn't pay us either. We couldn't get any cooperation from either party. Our fault was that we waited so long after completion (as we were extremely busy) that we lost all of our rights. We undertook this part of the job so that we might at least make part of our "loss" back. I can't really say that I'm sorry that this owner feels like he paid too much. He still has substanstially more work done on his roof than he paid for.

Shoddy, dangerous work that led to a house fire.
Description of Work: My next-door-neighbor on Capitol Hill hired Maggio Roofing to repair/replace his roof on a 19th century townhouse. In the process of doing a "torch-down" technique, they left the roof smoldering which literally burst into flames after the workmen left. The neighbor's roof was burned and his house suffered substantial fire and water damage. Firemen came and put out the fire but tore open our roof to make sure the fire hadn't spread to our house. Did I mention that Maggio's people left two butane tanks on the roof after they left? Had the fire department not arrived quickly, the house would surely have exploded. Our neighbor was out of his house for months. We ended up needing a new roof and repair from water damage ourselves. All the reputable roofers we spoke to said "torch down" is a dangerous technique and there are better ways to repair or replace a roof. It seems evident that even if a company uses this technique, they must make sure nothing is smoldering when they leave and they certainly should not be leaving flammable materials - such as gas tanks - behind when they go.

This posting is inaccurate. While a fire occurred, it was not due to a torch applied roofing membrane. The roofing membrane work had been completed a day before this house had a fire. The work that was being done was copper work on a side wall that was built too close to the neighbors house. While soldering the copper flashing the heated metal caused the underlayment to smolder and eventually catch fire. I can't say how sorry we were for the accident. We not only cleaned up the house and stayed late into the evening, but had our insurance pay for everything. We even offered to fix the entire property at our expense. The owner declined our offer and used his insurance company to fix the property. They caused his delays and kept him out of the house, not us. We could have fixed everything within 30 days. I would say to anyone reading this, you never know how good your contractor is, until something goes wrong. For this homeowner, we accepted full responsibility and made the situation right by paying for the full repairs. We offered to do the work so that he wouldn't have to wait, but he chose another course (his prerogative). As an aside, this project was over six years ago and we no longer install torch applied roofing. In fact, we haven't for over 5 years. It should also be noted that we have gone on to win several national awards for our workmanship and how we operate our company.

I found out after a storm that they had covered over a cable used for television. I had brought in some guys after the storm that went up on the roof and told me that the cable had been painted over and was painted to the roof. He cut the ends off but it is still underneath my roof. I haven't said anything to them because it has been so long. I know that they had inspected it before they closed off on the deal, so I gather that they knew about the cable and it was acceptable to them, but I wouldn't use them again. I thought that they were terrific except for that one thing. I thought that they were little on the expensive side and the district thought that too. I had to get historic house permission to use them and they too felt that it was a hard price. They gave me excellent quality and terrible quality all on the same job. They were very responsive.

They came out pretty quickly but they were kind of slow coming back with an estimate and they were trying to up sell me for a whole new roof. I had called for a small repair and they were trying to up sell me the whole new roof and they claimed that it was make ready for solar heating and that I could deduct it all from my taxes. I think that was sort of a stretch. I would advise anyone to be prepared for an up sell. I might get a quote from them in the future.
