Got estimate 3/14 and paid 30% deposit. Called 3/27 that work would start 3/31. Crew of three showed up and worked for three days. Asked about any special trimming or worked needed and performed work very professionally. No surprises. Excellent job.

Jay and his landscapers came out last fall and did some much needed major work to help me reclaim my yard. My husband had an early onset of Alzheimer's the last 10 years and was unable to care for our property so there was a lot to do. The workers were excellent and did most of the work in two days including cutting several tree and taking out the roots. Jay was very amicable & professional and gave me a very fair price for all the work he did. I would highly recommend Jay and his landscaping company to anyone.

Recently a car ran through our yard, totaling one of our vehicles and totally trashing our front yard. It was difficult getting companies to come out and do estimates for our insurance company. Rhine was the only company that showed up when they said they would and gave us a thorough, reasonable estimate. After we gave them the go ahead THEY dealt with the insurance company for us. On the appointed day, Rhine showed up with a large crew. The crew were very cordial and professional (as well as tolerant of curious children). They worked hard and had our yard repaired, cleaned up, and redesigned and mulched in one day. I would use Rhine again for my landscape needs and recommend them to all who ask!

They did a very nice job; I am happy with it. My interactions with them were good. They took care of a couple things but I thought their price was a little high.

It went fine. They were very responsive. They are little higher than some of the others but they do good customer service and they like to make sure the customers are satisfied.

Excellent service. We have used Rhine services several times. Each time Jay Rhine himself comes out to do the initial estimate and understand the work requested. Work is high quality. We used them when preparing to sell our house and it was a huge help not to have to worry with it ourselves. Price is a little high but the work is high end work.

My property is on a hill with a steep slope in the back. I called to get a quote on a large retaining wall. The person came out and I think the job was to much for them because he became very rude telling me if you got a hundred thousand dollars we can probably do the wall and then he says lets just enclose your deck. I was blown away he was called for a retaining wall and if the job was to big for his company he should have said so. I spent the next ten minutes just entertaining him . The conversation ended with him saying he would email me a price for something I didn't call them for which he never did. I called two more company's outdoor Architects and Continental Landscaping and they both came out very professional and gave me a price on what I asked for. I called Rhine based on all the good reviews but I guess if its not basic landscaping its out of there wheelhouse. By the way both the quotes I received were not even close to the ridiculous number he was throwing around.

,I had a number of trees trimmed by Rhine. I originally had them come for a quote to fix my water feature when I found out from the owner that he is a licensed arborist. He was professional and took the time to explain the entire quote. They trimmed 3 large japanese maples, and some flowering cherry trees. I am having them back in the spring for more trees and the water feature repair. They did an excellent job! The work crew was clean and courteous of our property. They were very efficient working unsupervised for most of the project. The manager visited the following day to make sure I was happy and we walked the property together to ensure my satisfaction. I also had a friend use them for a large landscaping project and the job done was first class

The service has been good. They show up on time and work hard. They are not the cheapest but they do what they say they will do. I feel the supervisors and management are experienced and professional.

It went as expected. James gave us a reasonable bid and his crew worked diligently to finish the work. The job took a few days to complete...however, we had a lot of work to be done. Would definitely recommend!

We based our final decision to contract with Rhine Landscaping on the exemplary quality of projects that they had completed (and we had viewed), on their ability to have expertise in all of the areas that the project would entail (carpentry, masonry etc.) and most importantly by our deep admiration & respect for the owner of the company, Jay Rhine. Jay's leadership qualities. management skills, relational capacity and knowledge of his company's services are exceptional. He was always available by phone and/or email whenever we had questions, consistently advocated for us (in large and small ways), kept us informed, anticipated potential concerns and carefully coordinated every detail as though the project was being performed on his own home. The individual crews were exceptionally respectful, grateful and gifted in their trade(s) and worked tirelessly day after day to provide an exemplary end result. We are deeply pleased with our new deck, stone patio and stone front entrance way. We have always said in life, "We are too poor to buy cheap"...contracting with Rhine Landscaping was an intentional decision to make an enduring, qualitative, lifetime investment in our home with a company who delivers exemplary results and carefully transforms yard work into art work!

I hope that Angie's List will post my comments even though one of the "Don'ts" requests that we not rate a business owned by relatives. However, my own policy is that doing business with relatives is risky at best, and I generally avoid it. I made an exception in this case. Jay Rhine is my cousin (well, my cousin-in-law, once removed. . . or something like that). The crew of four arrived at daybreak (I approved!) and worked virtually non-stop until it was almost too dark to see. After they had been working for about an hour or so, the foreman came and and asked me if I'd like them to do some pruning (which I had not thought about). Since my butterfly bushes were about to overwhelm every other plant in their vicinity, I readily agreed. When they were done, it looked like a different house. And the next day (when there was daylight) I just couldn't believe how beautiful everything looked. Interestingly, it was the pruning that really made a difference. It's rare not to find something that a contractor missed or forgot to do, but my experience that morning was the reverse. I found areas I haven't even thought about had been done. So I am delighted -- and grateful -- that I can highly recommend Rhine Landscaping.

Wanted to schedule an appointment for an estimate, they never returned my calls.

I originally found this company due to an advertisement in a local paper . This company had won the Howard County Magazine landscape award a few years in a row. The estimator came out in a timely fashion. he reviewed product choices with me, gave me brochures and asked the appropriate questions on how I wanted to use the space. He got my input on my design ideas. He did measure the area and identified potential problems areas ( a drain would need to be moved). He suggested other designs options. I received the estimate an drawing the next business day. he followed with email and phone call to see if I had any additional question. he was very professional. I would have gone with the company but another company who could do the installation faster. the estimator had told me that they would not be the cheapest nor the most expensive and he was correct.

We worked closely with Scott. He was good and listened to what we wanted. We had to tweak the design several times. He accommodated to our needs and satisfaction accordingly. He put together a nice and clear plan.

We had 2 projects put together for $7000. They are very good, neat and clean, prompt and fast with their work. They are very easy to work with as far as their ideas and your ideas. I really, really like them, and we’ve had quite a few people in the neighborhood that have used them. That’s basically what I did; I saw them in the neighborhood. I’ve used them now for a couple of years. They are competitive with their price and they offer a lot of options. They pretty much do it all and that’s why I like them.

These guys went above and beyond our expectations. The price James quoted listed seeding the area above the extended wall. I arrived home after a long day at work and found a beautiful retaining wall and a finished lawn behind it . Evidently James had some sod left over from another job and now my only problem is getting the rest of the lawn to look as good as it does.

They seemed to do a good job preparing the area and installing the front walk. They totally butchered the transplanting of the existing shrubs and approximately half of them failed to survive. They just ripped many of the old but healthy shrubs out of the ground and left the roots exposed to the sun and air for some time. Then they went and dug the holes in the back yard and tried to plant them. The on site project manager informed me that one of the types of perennials was unavailable in October 2010 because they had been sold out. Rhine deducted $495 from the balance due and said that they would come back in the spring (spring 2011) and complete the job. Having heard nothing from the company come early July 2011. I emailed them regarding the completion of the job. Their representative contacted me a few days later and said that the plants that I had selected would not be available from the grower until early August. In mid August, I emailed the company and left a phone message with the representative that I had been working with. Now it is after Labor Day and no one has bothered to call to arrange for completion of the job. The plants and shrubs that were planted in 2010 have all survived and seem to be doing well with one possible exception. I can only conclude that they don't want to deal with me even though I paid by bill immediately after receiving it.

Initially contacted Rhine because they have landscape architects and we wanted an overall plan for our yard. After initial discussions with them about our property, we went around to look at other properties they had done that were similar in size and scope to our project. After deciding to work with them, they came up with three overall plans for the property that were easily staged and could be altered to fit our needs. We started with part A of one of the plans including new plantings and paver walkway out front, a concrete shed pad in back and moving the fence at one side of our house. The work on the front and shed pad went quickly over a few days. We were out of town when the final work was done and came back and wanted some minor changes made and realized they had missed one section of plantings. They came back and took care of things within 2 days. The final result is very nice. They also took care of getting a fence contractor in to give an estimate on moving a fence for us. Their contractor was cheaper than any of the other estimate we got and we are waiting for that work to commence. Part B of the project will take place in the next few years and we look forward to working with them again.

They are excellent. I have used them several times and I have been extremely pleased with them. The guy knows what he is doing. He is prompt and responds quickly.

We had our roofing done and they had damaged some of our walkway and a little of driveway in that process. So Rhine Landscaping repaired that for us. Their price was very fair. I would rate them high overall. They did an excellent job. It seemed it was okay price as it was paid for me through my insurance company. The repair work was to be done in the winter and as they couldn’t do it at that time they came right after that and did the job, so they were very responsive. They came on time and were very punctual. I would use them again in the future.

Contract was for paver patio and tree planting. It was the end of the season (October) so Rhine had approached us after we had initially passed over them proposing some revised pricing. Although they were not the cheapest, they were not the most expensive either and we formalized a contract. When the patio was complete and the trees were planted, there were no leaves on the tree. It was a tough call to say something. We decided to wait until spring to see if the trees were alive. Well, they never sprouted leaves in the spring. We called and said the trees were dead. They came out and looked and agreed that they were dead and said they weren't surprised since they were the last trees they had left for the season. So, they replanted them and did a horrible job. Although the soil shouldn't go over the root ball of the tree, we could actually still see the roots of the tree. Not surprisingly, the one tree didn't survive. We called and Jay Rhine said there was no remaining warranty on the trees since he already replaced them. He applied our warranty to the dead trees he originally planted. Then, he refused to respond to a complaint that we submitted with the BBB. Is the patio nice- Yes but the landscaping was terrible and now we have to fix it ourselves. Not only did they give us dead trees, Jay's "this is business" and "I know they were planted correctly" attitide was extremely unprofessional and generated no reason for him to ever come back and work on our house.

The previous contractor muffed it up. They did not know who to do brick. They did it in the rain. We asked Rhine to come back in a fix it. They have done exceptional. Jay is at the very top of everything. He gives you an estimate on the spot as he has a computer in his truck. He lines it out piece by piece so you know what they are going to do. The crew is very reliable. I had only had one instance where the crew was late because their truck broke down. His foreman on his crew is excellent and bilingual. He speaks perfect English and Spanish. His crew was always on site. He makes sure he comes back to you and makes sure everything is OK. We had to prune oversized shrubs. He had two or thee guys. The overhead guy knew what he was doing. At each point he had us come look at it and see if we wanted it cut back more. They try to check with you along the way to make sure they are doing what you want them to do. They are very careful. When reconstructing brick wall, we had flowering shrubs up against it. They tied some back. An old plants branches broke off. I told them that I was unhappy because it was so old and I didn?t think the braches would grow back. Jay said he would come out in spring if it doesn?t look up. He said he would give me any azalea that I wanted. He knew enough to now you don?t give a plant in November. You wait until the spring. He is very on point and keeps up with progress of the job. They can do a lot of things. It doesn?t have to be a big scale project.

We?ve actually been using their services for a few years now. In the past, they installed a drainage system in our yard. In fact, they are coming back this upcoming Tuesday to provide an estimate for snow damage we?ve had. Overall, we've been very pleased with their service. I would recommend them to others.

Scott was very professional and helped us determine exactly what we wanted in our plan. He came up with a draft of the plan and allowed us to change things multiple times before actually coming up with final design. He broke the prices down according to phases and provided us with a list of plant species so we could research the individual plants on our own before deciding what to incorporate. The prices for Rhine to complete the installation of the plan seemed to be a little high so we are looking around for installers to complete the job.
