ESB Rennovations

They came back out a second time to give us another estimate with the changes we wanted. They have been very helpful. We are likely to go with them for the service. The estimate was very competitive.

Had ESB Rennovations install a simple corner shower stall in my downstairs bath. I provided all but $250 worth of materials and the price agreed to for the installation was $2500. The first day went well enough, the contractors are friendly, but the workmanship quality being demonstrated was extremely poor. I honestly don't know how they have their MHIC license. They cut a floor joist when installing the drain by more then 50% and when I brought it up to Elliot (the owner) that it would now need to be sistered to ensure structural integrity, he looked me dead in the eye and said it's totally fine and that that is according to code. Sad thing was, they really didn't need to cut anything, but just move the shower over another inch. Then I noticed the drain was leaking after the "plumber" completed his work. So, I look in the crawl space and noticed that the drain hole was improperly cut causing the drain to sit in the base crooked. The guys had "reefed" it down and squeezed a ton of silicone around it to try and get it to stop leaking. When I told Elliot (the owner) that the drain is misaligned and is still leaking, despite the fact that his workers had squeezed silicone around the drain to stop the leak. Again, Elliot looked me dead in the eye and said that this is how you install a drain and that he had been doing it that way for 30 years! I about fell out of my chair laughing. Then there was the tile. They simply had to install approximately 50sqft of tile on two walls. The workers showed up without a tile saw and instead used a scoring tool to cut the tile. I know a lot of old timers that can do a great job using just that tool, but nearly every tile they had to cut was a disaster. All the lines were cooked and chipped. To make matters even worse, the workers didn't do the math correctly for the tile and I now have grout lines that are a small as a 1/16 of an inch in one spot and over one inch wide in another. By the third day, I had had enough and fired ESB from the project. Naturally, I didn't want to give them another dime, as I was going to have to redo most of the work, but unfortunately had signed a contract and had to pay it out. After a long, drawn out argument with Elliot, he graciously gave me a whole $100 discount for the shoddy work and structural damage they did making the final price $2400. The repairs to fix all of their work, came to over $700 after they were gone. So, in short, save time, money and emotional stress, and find another contractor.
