Very responsive company. Had something set up within a couple days of calling. Then I had to reschedule and they got me rescheduled for the date I needed, again within a few days. The night before I got a call to confirm the time. The day of, I called Scott and asked if he could come a little later than originally planned. I got the impression that some jobs had taken longer than planned and he was running behind anyway- so for me, that worked out. He showed up, asked a couple questions to understand exactly how I wanted the curtain rods and tie backs mounted and got to work. Took just under 2 hours. He even cleared away the packaging from the curtain rods. Very satisfied and will DEFINITELY use Handyman Matters again.

There was initial communication issues about length of job. Sent in photos through website and was promised one handyman. He showed up on time as promised however he said he could not remove mirror alone (I agreed it was a HUGE mirror and two person job). Unfortunately being a Monday government holiday they could not get a second guy that day to help with mirror removal. He only did a 1/2 day worth of work and worked with main company to reschedule time for two to remove mirror and then just one after to repair wall. The worked it out and got it done the next day. Pretty happy after they made the scheduling adjustment.
Description of Work: A day and a half work of removing vanity to ceiling mirror, shelf and floor heater in the master bath. Put two electrical boxes above sinks and moved electrical outlet where specified. Patched drywall.

First, Rose, the young woman who does scheduling actually answers the phone (timely, efficiently, pleasantly) and was able to fit me in within days of calling. Yes, days, not weeks. Worker called the evening before to make sure we were still on for job the next day. Secondly, worker was on time, ready to work, understod all I needed done and could do most of it within an hour. He didn't waste any time at all, and accomplished all the jobs well and efficiently, but one which could not be done. Thirdly, it was brutal weather that day and worker was inside for some work, but had to be outside for some as well. No complaints from him; he was pleasant, very well qualified for the job and did excellent work. I got an e-mail and a call from the company after the job was done to see how it went. Company cares about it's reputation and work as well as it's workers. I will definitely call this company again and again for some larger jobs as scheduling was easy, charges were reasonable, and work was well done. Can't ask for anything more.
Description of Work: Trimmed one door so it didn't rub on the flooring; shaved tread off floor jam on another door; shaved metal opening on lock on door so key would turn easily without having to physically pull door flush with lock opening.

Howard Shires was the most professional contractor I've ever dealt with. He was punctual, professional, and very knowledgeable about his craft. Howard explained in detail what he was doing, why he was doing it, and the reasons for each task performed. Howard was polite, patient, and very generous with his time and knowledge. If all of American Home Contractors are as professional as Howard is then this is he only contractor to use for all of your roofing needs.

I contacted this provider the same day I was matched with him (Nov 2nd) via email through Angie's list giving him my phone number and letting him know I was eager to hear from him via phone or email either one. On November 5th after not hearing anything I contacted Angie's list again and received word from them that they had contacted the provider and he would contact me as soon as possible. On November 12th still have not heard word one from this contractor. At this point if they cannot be bothered to contact me to just set up and estimate, I certainly wouldn't trust them to show up to do a job.

I've used this company before and will again-- They're professional, nice, and do good work. My only complaint is the price. The guy who did this recent work was at my house for 5 hours (that includes a one hour trip to Home Depot to select/buy paint & lubricant). For the amount of work done, including purchase of the paint & lubricant, $508 just seems like a lot of money. By the way, I really do appreciate the fact that these guys will select/purchase the materials needed.

I ordered and paid for a $99 service from one of your A+ providers. I as very clear on my availability and James said they would come out but didn't. Then I called with additional days of availability and all in all, it took almost a month before they came to the house. He was very nice and professional the entire time but it took longer than I expected to have the order completed. While they were there, they took pictures for me, explained what was wrong and what they did to fix it, and gave me a status on the roof overall. He followed up by sending me the pictures and an estimate for a roof replacement.

The work and entire process went very well. The installed (Scott) was very personable and professional. He did outstanding work. We really are thrilled. We got a new garbage disposal installed, not an old one replaced so he had to do the plumbing as well. I can't say enough about what a great job Scott did. He even called us the next day to double check that everything was working and the connections were tight. The only negative if you can call it that was the price was higher than the initial discussed guesstimate. While I do understand it was a guesstimate then total ended up being almost double of what we originally thought it would cost (initially $150, ended up $280). I don't know if that was due to having to run up to Home Depot to purchase parts and/or the time it took to redo the plumbing underneath (since we didn't have a garbage disposal previously). Either way, the work itself was great and we are very pleased with the new garbage disposal. We will definitely consider this company again for work in the future. I'll just get a few more quotes and a more specific price quote on the work before hand next time.

PROS: Extremely accommodating--met my need to get started on the project right away. Walter is a perfectionist, and clearly VERY good at what he does. Walter was very professional, and always started on time. CONS: We are sprucing up the basement in preparation for a big party we're hosting. I was VERY clear that I had a limited budget and short on time so my wife and I did ALL of the demolition, including: prepping AND priming the walls, removing old tack strips where the old carpet was, removing existing flooring, toilet and sink. We gave DETAILED instructions on what needed to happen and where, and communicated this over email and the phone. When Walter showed up, he was unaware that he would be tiling that day--so he didn't have his wet saw. He also painted the entire bathroom--including the ceiling and window well the same color. These two issues right away cost us a day in progress... While Walter did an exceptional job tiling....and painting (once the ceiling and window was corrected), I don't feel like enough work was completed in each 8 hour session. I felt that the quality of work was exceptional....the time it took to do it was very slow.
Description of Work: 1. Needed small powder room tiled, painted, toilet, light and vanity set 2. Install Tile at the bottom of the basement steps approx. 3'x8' 3. Frame in HVAC exposed venting from previous project, previous contractor

I used them a lot. I really like them. However, a few years ago in 2008 one of them put in an attic for me. When I had a house inspection I discovered they shouldn't have put the attic here. He removed 8 logs and put the roof in jeopardy. It took $2000 to put that back again. Evidently he knew he wasn't supposed to take them out and he did. It was good work. He cut 8 boards out that held the roof up because he did that I sold the house. It cost me more to put the boards and the attic in. It was stupid. I like them I still have them work for me. But this one particular guy caused the issue he does not work there any more. I still recommend them. I am with them for 15 years. The company itself stayed on top of things, they would check on their people. They made sure that the work was done properly.

Good framing and decent drywall skills. But I was so dissatisfied with how long things were taking (three days!) and thus how expensive this simple task was becoming. I decided to do the taping and mudding by myself. One professionalism issue was other clients the handyman had delaying his arrival and/or causing him to leave, daily, before the job was done -- i.e., poor scheduling and/or task-time-estimate skills. For the amount I paid I could have hired a contractor, and probably have been done in one day.

I made the reservation on Angie's List, and got a reply within an hour to call back at the handyman's number, then made an appointment. He got stuck in traffic (understandable for an appointment in the early morning), but called me just before the scheduled time to let me know that he would be 15 minutes late. When he showed up, he took a look, told me what he needed to do, and made both repairs in about half an hour.

I wish I could give 0 stars... Unfortunately, after reading all the wonderful reviews on Yelp I decided to hire Handyman Matters to replace ceiling drywall in my master bedroom that had come down due to, according to Handyman Matters themselves, being improperly secured (tiny nails were used instead of screws). They charged me to replace the drywall that had come down, as well as paint the ceiling. They were very nice and accommodating in the beginning. The drywall that they replaced started to sag along the edges, which resulted in cracking, chipping of the paint, and overall a very unsightly appearance. Plus, the "paint job" that they did was so awful that the paint started to chip, crack, and peel away all over the room. They also left giant blotches all over my ceiling. After coming over and attempting to fix it once, I was told that my house has a structural issue, and they will do no more work on the house until I hire a structural engineer (which are not cheap) to evaluate the house. So basically, cut down the ceiling I just paid for on an off chance that there is a structural issue, that mysteriously effects the only area of the house that they touched. I contacted a structural engineer, as well as had multiple contractors over to the house, all of whom told me that the issue is not structural, and it's only effecting the drywall replaced by Handyman Matters, while in that same very room where the original ceiling drywall remained just several inches over as well as in the rest of my house there are absolutely no signs of any cracks, sagging, or instability whatsoever. The edges were not properly reinforced and that's what was causing the issue. The sagging edges put pressure on where the drywall was nailed to the studs, causing cracks. Still, Handyman Matters insisted that it was structural even after I escalated this matter to someone who claimed to be the owner (Brian) of the company. So, after a few phone calls, where I was being constantly interrupted and made to defend myself to various staff members, who also basically said that it's my problem and not theirs, I told Brian of Handyman Matters that I want no more work to be performed on my house by them, because I lost all trust in their skill and was getting a distinct impression they didn't know what they were doing when it came to what was needed to rectify the problem. The "paint job" that they performed only reinforced my belief since calling it professional in any sense would require complete absence of eyesight. Instead, I decided to hire someone else. I wanted at least a partial refund for the poorly performed job, and for the fact that this has been dragging on since February, and I just wanted it finished and finished well. During my phone call with Brian of Handyman Matters, he said he would look at my file and see if he thought I "deserved a refund". That was weeks ago. I am still yet to get a phone call, an email, or any form of correspondence from Handyman Matters. I never leave negative reviews, but I just want my experience to help someone make an informed decision. Maybe If I would have seen a review like this I wouldn't have had to sleep on the couch for the last 4 months. Hire them at your own discretion.

They arrived on time, examined the materials I bought and indicated I needed to buy deck screws. They told me I had enough lumber to complete the job. I ran to the hardware store to get the screws while they set up. They indicated that they probably would not be able to build 3 gates in the 4 hour time slot I purchased, so I ended up paying for an entire day. About 3/4 of the way through the job, they told me I needed to provide more lumber. Off again to the hardware store to get more wood. Came back and examined the 1st gate. The hardware was on the outside. He said he could not install it on the inside because of how the gate worked. I'm not a carpenter but I'm pretty sure with some adjustment, the hardware could have been installed on the inside of the gate. As it is installed now, I can't leave my back yard through the gate. I will have to remove the latches and put in hook/eye hardware to be able to use the gates. I bought 2 packs of deck screws. I'm pretty sure he didn't use all of them but he didn't leave me the ones he didn't use. And he left the old gates and did not take them away. My fault - I assumed that work included haul away/clean up of the site. There is an overhead board on one of the gates. I don't know if it was put there because he needed additional support while building the gate and he forgot to take it down or if the fence/gate needs it to remain sturdy/square. All in all, it was a very expensive day. And while my gates close, I have to make sure I leave the back door unlocked, rather than use the gates. I'm afraid that the wind will swing them shut and I'll be locked in my back yard.
