Michael persevered in hot weather and solved problems to finish all projects excellently. He is knowledgeable and friendly, but works hard and doesn't waste time.

Aside from the time/schedule confusion (I thought the handyman was scheduled for 8am and he arrived at 7am), the installs/repairs went very well. Roberto was very professional and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. I just had general installation of hallway light and ceiling fan. Repaired the storm door and a door that wasn't able to close all the way. Also replacement of doorknobs, locks, and hinges throughout the house as well as installs of new towel racks in the bathroom. Everything looks great. Roberto also went the extra mile to explain why I wasn't able to replace the bathroom exhaust I had purchased a while ago (brought one that was too big for what I had in the bathroom). But with that, he cleaned the bathroom exhaust that was there and it looks brand new! I really didn't need to buy one in the first place - it just needed a thorough cleaning. I'm very happy with what was done. A couple of items I will need to call back about - nothing wrong - just a couple of tasks that required further steps to complete but I will also use this company again for future needs.

Like an idiot, I paid for their 16 hour "special" that's only $1,900. They sent a new guy out - Patrick - who had just left a family owned business and spent a lot of time talking about how he's not appreciated by his current company (instead of working). It was very hard to get him to stop talking and start working. It took him 8 hours just to finish a powder room. He put it together very badly the first time - the finishing was obviously very poorly installed with spaces around the toilet and the walls. He had to take THREE trips to Home Depot to find the write hose to attach the pedestal sink. It would take all the time in the world to list the problems we had with Patrick. He came the second day 2.5 hours late. He was only supposed to work for four hours that day! That time was never made up. He spent most of the first day on the phone! I could never find him inside the house! He would take 2 hour coffee/Home Depot breaks. He would arrive late, pack p early, and told us he needed to avoid traffic! We paid for 16 hours. He worked incredibly slowly. He spoke a lot about his resentment for the company he worked with but begged for a positive review b/c he was new. I did call his boss Rose and discuss ALL of the problems we were having with Patrick and she said Brian would talk to him. The next day he showed up and was surly. I quickly realized we'd only be able to get the house ready before listing if I humored him. I wrote "great job" at the end b/c I was so relieved it was over and also b/c I felt a lot of pressure from him to do so. (When we did pay him in cash that weekend he worked like a fiend - which makes it so obvious that he just didn't give a **** while he was working on company time). Obviously, the company never made this right. Weeks later I realized we'd been conned and it was ridiculous not to dispute half of the charge. I filed a dispute with AmEx. I got an incredibly aggressive phone call from Brian who said, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" Um, yes you can dispute transactions if the merchants are terrible. I've never had to do it before but you better believe I did this time. What happened? Brian sneered that the problems had already "been resolved" after the multiple phone calls with Rose. Oh? Resolved? We didn't get any type of a refund, Patrick didn't work extra hours - nothing. Literally nothing was done - we had to pay the entire price. Next, to my amazement, Brian said they "ALWAYS win AmEx disputes" b/c customers have to sign that they approve when they pay at the end of the day. I couldn't believe he was openly admitting that merchant disputes are a regular problem for this company - that says quite a bit for how they operate! I tried to calm Brian down by explaining we were only disputing half of the charges (even though after all of this we will be asking the national company for a full refund). Brian abruptly said he'd speak with Rose and hung up. AmEx credited us but then sent us 2 emails that we couldn't open and neither could the AmEx agents overseeing the dispute. As a result, since we couldn't actively communicate during the dispute, it was resolved in the merchant's favor. You better believe we opened up another dispute right away and will be calling AmEx regularly to make sure they don't mess up again! I have an actual voicemail from Rose calling me back to discuss all of the concerns we were having with Patrick! SO - BE CAREFUL - go with a handyman you know in your neighborhood. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. They either don't pay the contractors well enough (Patrick kept complaining he was treated like he didn't know how to do anything even though he could build houses, blah blah - wish he'd shown us some of that while he was on the company's dime!). I can see the most recent review has the exact same problems we did - the guy came hours left, worked as slow as humanly possible, etc. Home renovations are EXTREMELY expensive - this company should be ashamed of how they take advantage of consumers. Absolutely disgusting. Heads up - Patrick asks to be paid in cash so he doesn't need to pay the IRS. He will work hard but as soon as you leave town he'll try to screw you over. If we had had more time we would have switched to another company immediately before listing the house.

Our handyman gets a good grade for quality of his work. However, he was very slow and used 6 and 1/2 hours to complete his work. For that amount of time and materials, it cost us over $900. He spent one hour trying to fix a garbage disposal to no avail and then spent one hour buying supplies at a nearby Home Depot. So, he arrived at 10:00 am and didn't start until 12:00. The company knows about this but did not give us any credit for that time. For $939, the handyman installed a new kitchen faucet, a new garbage disposal, replaced the shelf under the kitchen sink, installed a basic doorknob on bedroom door, hung 2 smoke detectors, fixed a bathroom fan, and measured the countertop. To add insult to injury, we now have to DISCONNECT the sink faucet and garbage disposal to have the new countertop installed. It felt like we were throwing money to the wind. So, please be sure you want to spend a RIDICULOUS amount of money if you decide to hire this company!

Fantastic. Jose worked quickly moving from one job to another. Even though the sump pump was not on my original list, Jose checked it out and we discovered that it wasn't working. He went to Home Depot, bought a new one and installed it. When I called the office the next day because I didn't hear the new sump pump and thought it wasn't working, Jose returned to check it and show me that it's working. Well-run company, friendly, very competent, highly recommend.

I was able to schedule a Saturday appointment. Rick called to say his earlier appointment had cancelled and he could come early if I wanted. He was quick to understand what I wanted and did the work independently. I had gotten a 4 hour special price and he finished all the work in the four hours. When he repaired the lighting problem he told me it was not a complete fix and I should probably get an electrician to finish the job. I appreciated him knowing his limits, especially with electrical work.

This company will not come to the site to give an estimate. They want $150 an hour without looking at the job.

Bill from Handyman Matters accomplished all of the jobs; the shutter re-installation one day, the ceiling repair that involved 5/8 " drywall installation and repair of the existing structure that had been improperly install by the house builder the next day, and finally repair of the garage door facings the next. The facings installed by the house builder were made from composit boards and not painted on the bottoms so that over the years water had seeped up by capillary action and eroded the boards. Bill devised a method of repair that made the repaired portion emulate plinths.

Work was great. Even when I realized door was too small to get full size washer and dryer in, Jimmy did an amazing job customizing the new door to fit in a wall that was originally built with 2x3s instead of 2x4s. I would definitely hirer again!

Kirk was very informative, punctual, and did an outstanding job. Took a little longer than expected but that was my fault as I purchased a larger exhaust fan by accident. Was hoping it would have been an identical replacement but was larger so he needed to increase the size of the drywall ceiling hole. But everything looks great ( a few cosmetics I need materials for, once again my fault and see above) and will definitely use Kirk and Handyman Matters again.

They came out for about 4 hours. I thought they did a very good job and the person that came out was very efficient with his time. He did our work well. He was timely and respectful and everything. I thought it went well. For 4 hours, it was $370 or $375. They had a special for 4 hours, you could get this amount of money. I think the pricing was reasonable. It was reasonably priced for what they did. No problems with the quality. They were very good. They came out on time and they called and did everything they said they were going to do. The punctuality was very good. He was here on time. Their professionalism was very good.

I have an unusual size basement bulkhead door. I asked for 2 other quotes; one service wouldn't even do this kind of job. I sent a photo of the old door with the dimensions for an estimate. HMoC had a better rate, and a more accurate time estimate than the other service. HMoC even researched other types of doors for me first in case there was a ready-made door that might work before agreeing that it needed to be custom made. We had to reschedule due to rain, but they were flexible with the scheduling. When the carpenter arrived, I explained I was replacing the door because of leaks, so he also put weatherstripping around the edges. He took a photo of the old door so the hardware store could try to color match the paint. He gave me some advice for maintenance, so the door would last longer. I didn't think to ask if they could include removing the old door in the estimate. I just scheduled a bulk trash pickup for it, since it won't fit in my car.

Will did a fantastic job in a timely manner! This is the second time he's done work in our home and he always does an excellent job. He arrives on time and is very professional, polite and personable. I thought we might have to replace our damaged kitchen floor. Instead, Will did such a great job patching the area you can't even tell it's been repaired. Thank you!!!

Excellent. From my first contact with Rose to ask about and schedule the service to cleanup of the job when complete, everything went smoothly. Rose explained the costs and answered all the questions I had. She was great. Dave (handyman) arrived right on time; walked through the projects that needed to be done; and immediately began pulling up the carpet. Brought in a second handyman (Harry) to help move the heavy furniture and replace the window cranks. Harry stayed long enough to complete his projects so as to not overcharge for two people. After a quick break for lunch (off the clock), Dave finished the remaining small projects that we agreed on. Both gentlemen were courteous, polite, and professional. Even hauled away the old carpet. You couldn't ask for a better representation of the company. I contacted a few other handman services listed on Angie's list, but Handyman Matters of Columbia gave me the best possible service at a reasonable cost. MANY THANKS. I will definitely contact them again for future projects.
