The founding owners, Jim Rubush & Ben Wolod, established Fence & Deck Connection in 1991. As lifetime Anne Arundel County residents, their commitment to providing the finest customer service in the industry has been instrumental to their success. The addition of Jeffrey Wall into the partnership in 2013 has added a great depth of sales & marketing expertise to help provide a customer experience like no other. Fence & Deck Connection has grown from what was once a two-man operation to one of the leading fence and deck companies in the state of Maryland. We have financing available. "Buyer Beware Run Away! (we dealt with the Veterans Hwy office) Fence and Deck Connection is an unprofessional organization that "installs" fences poorly. Don't beleive me, keep reading. We hired Fence and Deck Connection to install roughly 10 feet of privacy fence and gate. We assumed that they were professional enough to plan, execute, and provide quality control for the project. Well none of that is true. Chris, the project manager, failed to plan, control, or lead the project. He delivered the wrong plans to the crew which put the fence in the wrong spot swinging the wrong way. The first attempt at our fence was wrong in every way. They had to come back--take it all down and rebuild it from scratch. Chris povided no leadership or quality control during the process. In fact, he couldn't be bothered to come back and check the work. On the first go the crew dumped dry concrete mix down the fence post holes and when confronted about it Chris attempted to claim this a dry pour. He said that this will harden with ground moisture into solid concrete. The crew that installed the fence on both occasions were not properly equipped to do the job given that the fence parts are not even cut to the right dimensions. To be clear we just left the "fixed" version with its poor install quality alone becasue the issues aren't worth having the fence rebuilt a third time. Things like the gate not being even, or that we were told by Bob, who is Chris's boss, that the fence was going to need be adjusted by September-- 5 months after install. The company treated us with a lack of respect and a lack of professionalism when it came our justified complaints about the wrong install, poor communication, customer service and workmanship. In fact, Joel told us that it was essentially our fault that the fence was wrong for providing the wrong plans, when the company was in fact in charge of that. Leaving aside the blatent deception with the "concrete" with no water-- which is all on video. I am sure this low-grade company will try to convince you that we are unreasonable customers or that they fixed it so all should be forgiven. Sure, we are unreasonable for thinking they should do a good job. Yes we are unreasonable for thinking that we should not have to watch them to make sure they do a good job. We are unreasonble for being insulted with a $100 Amazon gift card as a "good faith" gesture as if the issues weren't that bad when they had to completely replace and remeasure all fencing and gate. The time for them to make it right was immediately, and to leave a good impression started on day one. They left us running away. They demonstrated a lack of professionalism--sneaking onto our property to install the fence the first time saying nothing and sneaking away saying nothing when finished. The project manager couldn't even be bothered to keep the basics straight. Where the gate goes, how big it should be, where the posts go, what plan the workers needed-- nothing. This company is utterly incompetent and no matter what deal they offer you it is waste of your time and money."

"We hired Nelson to do cleaning after the winter, mulching a very big area which involved getting rid of lots of weeds and leaves, replacing the weeds stopper fabric from under a vast area with marble chips, cutting the grass, making flower beds, landscaping edges, etc. From the first interaction with him, Nelson was very professional. While walking together all sides of the yard, he listened very attentively to what we were hiring him for. We were and we are very happy with his work. He showed up as promised and over delivered the entire work. Yes, over delivered. Not common nowadays. He and his crew are very hard workers and their work is very detailed. I felt like they were really caring about what they were doing! Overall we were and we are extremely satisfied with Nelson work and we strongly recommend him and his company. Thank you Nelson for a great work. It is very much appreciated. MF, Coachway, The Downs, Annapolis"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should confirm that the fencing installer you hire is insured before proceeding with the job. In most cases they do not need a specific fencing license, but rather a general contractor’s license. Hiring a licensed contractor protects you as a homeowner from fraud, poor work, and potential legal woes.

Licensing and certification are not necessary.

Answered by Regino Adrian Pizarro at LDFY Fence Repair and Services, LLC in Denver, CO on 01/21/25

Before you hire a fence installer to build you the fence of your dreams for your yard, it’s important to set expectations up front by asking questions. Some questions to consider include:

  • Do you offer a warranty?

  • Do you offer financing or a payment plan?

  • Do you have references?

  • Do you have photos of previous work?

  • What type of fencing materials do you work with?

Answered by Angi Experts

Do you have references?

Are all fasteners exterior (galvanized)?

How deep are you concreting the post?

What is the lowest maintenance fencing?

How will you deal with slopes?

Answered by Chris Yancey at Yantons Outdoor Living LLC in Beavercreek, OH on 01/07/25

Only some fences require a permit to build. Factors like where you live, how tall your fence will be, and where in your yard you plan to build all impact the need to have a permit. Below are a few examples of when a permit is needed; it’s always best to check with your fence installer to confirm if a permit is required.

Generally, if you live somewhere rural, like on a farm, there’s a good chance you will not need a fence permit. However, you will most likely need a permit if you live in a highly-populated area. In addition, many privacy fences in your backyard won’t need a permit if it is 6 feet or shorter. However, you might need a permit for anything over 3.5 feet in your front yard.

Any solid panels over 8 feet in height will require a permit, while a 2-foot lattice top on a 6-foot fence does not require a permit.

Answered by Connor Andrews at Craftsman Fence, LLC in Kirkland, WA on 01/22/25

Permit requirements can vary, so it's best to check with your county and municipality. Your fence contractor should be able to help confirm the specific requirements.

Answered by Carlos Martinez at CLM Home Improvements in New Carrollton, MD on 01/20/25

If you are digging in the ground, then yes. If it's just a repair with no digging, then no.

Answered by Terri Webb at Webb's Fencing & Repairs, Inc. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on 01/17/25

The average cost to install a fence is between $1,760 and $4,500. These costs are what an average homeowner spends, but you might spend more or less depending on several factors. For a smaller DIY project, you might get away with spending as little as $430, or for a much larger project (like fencing for a 5-acre yard), you can spend in excess of $43,000

Besides the size of your yard, other factors like your fence material, fence height, site prep, and additional fence features like gates all impact the overall cost. Additionally, the high cost of raw materials and manufacturing can all make the overall price tag higher.

Answered by Angi Experts

The overall cost of a fence project depends on numerous factors, including the size of your yard, fence material, fence height, site preparation, and additional features like gates.

Answered by Carlos Martinez at CLM Home Improvements in New Carrollton, MD on 01/20/25

Specific pricing varies drastically based on material choices and options. Length of fence, height, and gate options all are contributing factors that will determine the overall cost of a fence. Typically a per foot price can be given that ranges from $20-$50 per linear foot for installations.

Answered by Todd Rosier at A Plus Fencing Solutions in Yakima, WA on 01/08/25

It all depends on the specifications of the fence, such as linear footage, gate installations, demolition and haul-off, and other factors.

Answered by Connor Andrews at Craftsman Fence, LLC in Kirkland, WA on 01/22/25

It depends on the type of fence, the scope of work, and other factors.

Answered by Terri Webb at Webb's Fencing & Repairs, Inc. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on 01/17/25

Fence installers typically charge by the hour when working on a project. Typically, you can expect to pay around $50 per hour for fence installation. Your project might take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, depending on the length of your fence, overall project complexity, and fence type.
