First of all it took 3 apt times before they came out to do the estimate. Then he looked over the trees in the dark. We had several other trees in the backyard that also needed work but could only afford to do a little at a time. So we asked them to start with the tree hanging over the neighbor's house. It took twice before they arrived. The first time I took the day out of work and called them when they didn't show up. He was surprised that I took off and he couldn't come because he had to take his dad to the dentist. When he finally did come, they cut down the limb over the neighbor's house and let it land on the roof. This was exactly what we were trying to avoid. Then they climbed on the neighbor's house without asking them. Hard to believe but it gets worse. They spent hours cabling the tree together. It lasted through one storm and then fell off. My husband called them and we waited 3 weeks for them to come out and they were going to tell us how much it would cost. Then I called the other company we used to do the other trees and they took all the cables off and started over.
Description of Work: We had one limb over a neighbor's house cut down, one tree thinned out and cabled.

He is very, very reasonable on his prices as we had someone else give us an estimate for $1400. We are so glad that we had him do the work and he did such a good job. It looks like a tree has never been there.
Description of Work: He removed two trees that were joined together which was a maple and a mulberry tree. They did ground up the stump.

This company did what I wanted them to do in an efficient and safe way. Plan on waiting to be called back or making follow up calls yourself. Plan on waiting a while for a Certificate of Insurance if you want one(I waited one month). Plan on the crew being 20-30 minutes late. They destroyed 1 azalea and 1 rhododendron, which I believe if they had been more careful could have been avoided. Since 1 of the trees was on the property line, they made some mess and stepped on some flowers in the neighbors yard. My neighbor was very upset and claimed to have lost many more plants then anyone going into her yard could substantiate. The company compensated my neighbor to her satisfaction without argument. Based on the other estimates I received, I believe I paid a reasonable price.
Description of Work: They took down three large trees in backyard. One was a very large dying oak, which in some of the estimates I received was evaluated as needing a crane to remove. They hauled away wood. They cleaned up the yard of fallen debri before leaving. They were here for 2 days.

I have used McTavish's to remove a large part of a dead oak tree in the past, and they were very professional. This time, my calls have not been returned on 5 occasions. An estimate was prompt and inexpensive, and work was to have been completed within 1-2 weeks; when it wasn't after several (unreturned) calls, Monty (the owner) said he'd lost my paperwork. I provided him the information he requested to locate it. A week later, the work was still not done, and I called back. This time I faxed him a copy of the contract. The work was to be done within another week. It has now been over a month since the contract was signed. Despite knowing I'm not a satisfied customer (and despite being unsatisfied, I've been very polite), the company is still not returning my calls, apologizing, or telling me when the work can be completed. I don't think the company listens to their voicemail messages. I will not use them again. Their work is good, but their customer service STINKS!
Description of Work: Previously, they cut out half a dead tree (very large oak), leaving the live part behind, and cut and stacked the wood for firewood. This time, they cut and removed dead cherry and medium shrub and removed 6 stumps.

The crew of six was punctual, efficient and hard-working. They did a fantastic job and left our yard (and the neighbor's yard) immaculate. Their price was 1/2 of the competition. Excellent experience! I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Removal of two large trees and two small trees. Stumps were grounded and all waste was removed.
