Description of Work: The electrician replaced a circuit breaker that no longer threw the correct voltage.

Description of Work: They did an excellent job and provided lots of useful information. I originally asked about adding a vent fan in a pantry, fixing an attic fan, and fixing the garage electrical system. They convinced me that I did not need a pantry fan, offered to replace the attic fan but explained how I could replace it myself, and fixed the garage using the cheaper of two available options. The Hyman team also gave me clear quotes for the service visit ($95) and for the remaining work ($400) before doing the work. It took them about 2 hours total with 2 guys doing the work. The garage was in pretty bad shape. The other electrician I had work on my house claimed he'd fixed the garage and would not come back to do further repairs even when I offered to pay him again.

Description of Work: They installed 6 light fixtures in our home and 1 light fixture on the front porch. Jeremy and the other team member were knowledgeable, quick, and thorough. They gave good recommendations. It was a pleasure to work with them.

Description of Work: The outdoor lights on the rear of our townhouse and on the front and rear of our detached garage would not turn out. The Hyman crew identified the problem - the power line running under our patio had shorted out. The crew identified the problem correctly; identified two alternative approaches; we selected our preferred approach and the Hyman crew executed well. When a glitch remained in our system after they had completed the job, they came back quickly and removed the glitch - for no charge of course. I could not be happier with the job they did and will use them again in the future and would recommend them to anyone.

Description of Work: Hyman Electric was great. They promptly answered and returned calls, came out quickly and on time to the home and did a fine job of repairing a blown circuit. The house is about 25 years old and the wiring was out of date, largely due to the big increases in power usage since the house was built -- probably driven at least partly by the ubiquitous use of electronics. | |In any event, they replaced two blown GFI outlets, and replaced several of the outside outlets that were installed during construction -- when GFI outlets weren't required by code. They sent an electrician out to review the situation and draw up an estimate, and the next day came out and completed the work. | |All in all, Hyman Electric is prompt, professional and a very pleasant company with which to work.

Description of Work: I had a this company upgrade my Electrical Service Panel from 100 amps to 150 amps plus install two new outlets. The estimator gave me a good price for the work that I needed performed and I liked his input and suggestions on some additional work I inquired about. The three electricians showed up on the prearranged date and time and got to work right away: One working at the panel box, another doing the exterior work and the last one working on the new outlets to be installed in the basement. All three of them were quick with their work and also took care to make sure they didn't make too big of a mess in the house. One thing I appreciated was that after the new panel box was wired, they took the time to walk through the house testing outlets, swiches, etc. in order to label the correct circuit breakers. The two competing bids I received required that "I" perform this task. All things being equal, it's the little things like this that can win or lose a job for a company. The county inspector arrived a few days later to look at the work performed and said the crew did a real good job, especially with the neatness of the wiring in the panel box. PEPCO is at the house today doing the final connection after which I'll have full use of the upgrade. I would not hesitate in recommending Wm. Hyman to anyone needing electrical work.

Description of Work: Hyman's electrician installed a new junction box in my kitchen ceiling and then installed a light fixture that I had purchased. Service by Byron was quick and clean and effective. Byron also installed a new photoelectric cell in the control box that governs our community's outdoor lighting system. He diagnosed the problem, secured the new part, and installed it. Hyman was very responsive. We would definitely use them again.

Overall extremely professional (if a bit pricey--I didn't expect to pay a $75 service call fee in addition to the per-job fees quoted over the phone). NOTE: AFTER WRITING THE ABOVE, THE COMPANY CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY, APOLOGIZED FOR THE CONFUSION WITH THE $75 SERVICE FEE AND SAID THEY WOULD REFUND THE FEE!! WHAT A PROFESSIONAL AND UPSTANDING COMPANY. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED THIS KIND OF SERVICE IN YEARS!!!! THANKS TO HYMAN ELECTRICAL.

Description of Work: All the lights in a part of my house were out including the outside lamp. The elctrician had to figure out where the problem was and finally found that the wire to the lamp ourside had been miswired many years ago. He was unable to fix it because it was improperly spliced under the floor. However, by disconnecting the lamp, we were able to restore power to the house. Replacing the wiring to the lamp that is some 20 feet from the front door will cost about $1500 just in time and labor. Not worth it. It does not include restoring the lawn they will have to tear up that could cost another $1500. There is always solar lighting (for which no electician is necessary. The gentleman who performed the work was pleasant, knowledgeable, and best of all, on time.

Description of Work: We had an addition built to our home in 2006. The contractor was a great carpenter, but was less skilled as an electrician. We suddenly lost power to one of the circuits in the addition and call William Hyman. A workman came out, quickly fixed the problem. Two days later, the same circuit again went out. We called the company back and they were out the next day. They told us that the original wiring job left a number of loose connections that were causing the outage and suggested that they check each light and switch for safety reasons. Company did a good job at a fair price. They were exceedingly polite and went out of their way to make sure they cleaned up after they were done.
