Hyman Electric did a terrific job, start to finish. Apparently not a lot of thought had gone into the lighting design originally, but Bill Hyman and his staff had good ideas that have made the house infinitely more attractive. In the process, they also solved a number of practical problems (like a poorly lit staircase and dark closets). They started within a couple of days of our accepting their estimate, in contrast to several contractors who said they couldn't get to the job for weeks.

We originally called Hyman Electric because our kitchen lights keep flicking on and off. They came out and found the problem quickly. They also discovered that we had original wiring in the house and it was a fire hazard, so we asked them to come back out and heavy up our electric. They came out the following week and was able to complete the project in one day. They were very professional and I felt comfortable leaving them in my home without my being there.

Asked a lot of questions on the phone to understand the job and come prepared. Called ahead, arrived on time, gave me great information, suggestions and options. Then quoted a price by task, and gave me a choice of thinking about it, scheduling or going ahead. Two hours later they were cleaned up and on their way.

With the A/C now blowing again, he scheduled a time to come back the next week and upgrade the system. He also put in a new outlet on my outdoor deck. He came exactly when he said he would, clearly explained all the issues, and gave me various options without pressuring one way or the other. I opted for the more expensive solution, because I worried about the safety issues of water in my main panel. After the work was finished, Mr. Hyman called me to check to see if everything was okay. They were very professional. They didn't quit on me when they couldn't figure out some stuff. They showed up on time to do the work and stayed late to get the work done.

They came out very promptly (within 3 hours of calling - others we called said it would be 4 days before they could fit us in), called on their way, were very communicative during the visit, and came out the following morning to do the heavy up. While here, they noticed the neutral wire from the electric pole was disconnected, so they took the initiative to call the power company on our behalf and after the work was done, they called to check if they had come and gave us a rundown of what to tell them. Owner also called after the visit to check up on how it went. They left everything neat - the electrician even took before and after photos of inside the old and new panel so he could show us all that had been done. The owner even offered to write a letter for the insurance co. if we were going to claim the blown condenser on insurance as that probably was caused by the power company's downed neutral.

He offered less expensive temporary options and spent a lot of time explaining electric 101 to me. It looked like he hung the light in one place, screwed it in and then moved it. I had to put a cushion under the fixture to lift the fixture away from the mirror. I reported the problem to the company when I paid the bill. To his credit, the electrician called and apologized and offered to return and fix it. Because I already made it work, I declined.
