Fireplace was not working properly and was causing the switch next to it blow the fuse. Electrician found grounding wire was pinched which was causing it to short. He cut the bad wire and reconnected it to Box. Fireplace not ignites but need Fireplace repair by plumber for gas. Electrician knowledgeable, gave clear explanations, tidy, understands customer service.

We had the company to our house to give an estimate on outdoor lighting. We waited and waited and waited for the estimate. Finally, someone emailed from the company saying they assumed we no longer wanted the estimate and found another electrician. We said we still would like to estimate and that we had been waiting on them. He immediately sent the estimate, it was over $2000.00! While we only wanted an estimate on outdoor lighting they decided they needed to replace our circuit breaker too! Very disappointed in this company.

Because of my satisfying experience, I would not hesitate to recommend any owner of an older home to Hyman Electric.

I cancelled further work after a couple days as there were too many issues concerning scheduling, pricing, customer communications, integrity and quality. For example, the scheduling was handled as if this was a quick service call instead of a larger job in which the size crew and duration is communicated to the customer in advance. The pricing was significantly higher than the standard pricing and price ranges that Hyman Electric's former estimator, Alec Receveur, told to me last year. I've been very pleased with work done by Hyman Electrical Contracting in the past, however, that impression has changed.

I have had several different electricians of theirs and they have always been nice to me and my children. I was comfortable having them in my home. I feel their prices are fair.

The contractor was very responsive to provide an estimate. He was professional, and clearly diagnosed the proper way to do the requested service. The estimate was to route a new switch and electrical box for an exterior light. The contractor said that the work would take about a couple of hours. This did not include patching or repairing the drywall. The work solely involved routing about 20 feet of wiring, a switch, and a 4 inch electrical box. For this 2 hour job he quoted $600. Too expensive for me to consider.

Our experience with Hyman Electrical was outstanding. Allen, the office manager, was excellent and scheduled service right away. Though the first tech did not solve the problem, Mr. Hyman came out with 2 other techs the same day and made sure that the power was restored and things everything was in working order. He also provided recommendations for some upgrades and improvements. We will certainly use this company again and refer to our colleagues and friends.

They were professional and showed up on time. However, I needed 2 outdoor lighting fixtures installed. Even though I had discussed what I wanted on the phone, they declined to install one of the fixtures which will cause me to have to hire someone else. They still charged me the $75 visit fee and added it to the installation fee for one light fixture. Basically they removed an old light fixture and replaced it with a new one that I provided. They were at the house for 45 minutes and charged me $200 all together--ouch!

Have used Hyman many times, and as usually, the experience was great. They are prompt, professional, and do good work. Also, the electrician was happy to spend some extra time with us after he was done with the job to give us some free advice on possible future light and switch upgrades. Will definitely use them again.

Alec was amazing -- generous with his time, thorough, and forthright about what he found. He spent a good 30 minutes on the inspection itself, on top of patiently waiting 30 minutes for the realtor to show up. In a frustrating home-buying process that has been opaque and felt like not everyone had our best interests at heart, Alec was a refreshing dose of clarity and honesty and a voice sticking up for us. Without question, we'd go to William G. Hyman Electrical Contracting for any future electrical work.

Initial phone call was handled promptly and professionally. After selecting a service date, Hyman Electrical Contractor contacted us in advance to confirm the appointment. Due to major storm and regional power outages two days before our scheduled service appointment, Hyman Electrical Contractor reconfirmed the day before just to confirm that our area had electricity -- we thought that was a very good thing for them to do. Technicians called 1/2 hour prior to scheduled morning arrival, and arrived exactly on time. Technicians were polite, and made a point to use shoe coverings and to protect our floors and walls before beginning their work. They performed an on-site estimate and provided a quote, which we agreed to. Installation (we had already purchased the unit to be installed) was quick and easy. Technicians allowed us to inspect the work upon completion, and we paid the amount as quoted in advance. We were very pleased with the work.

.I had been experiencing sporadic service from the garbage disposal switch in the kitchen for some time. I researched Angie's List and selected Hyman Electric for their A rating and closeness to my home. From start to finish I was completely satisfied with heir service. They came when they said they would, explained everything they said they would do and in addition did electrical inspection of my house. Since my house was 40 years old, I expected changes in my electrical system. They did advise me that I needed a new panel box but did not push the need. Their price is relatively high but it is offset by their professionalism and attention to detail. I highly recommend them for electrical service. P.S. I contracted with them for installing a new panel box which passed inspection.

Alan and Eric came on time and were very professional, kind and friendly. They were willing to work with me and were very understanding about my financial situation. At the time, the fee quoted was a bit more than I could handle, but because of help offered to me by my mother, I can and will re-schedule to have the work I need done. The service call fee was $75.00, but because I had no work done Alan generously waived the fee. Alan and Eric were attentive and patiently explained what needed to be done and they treated me (a woman) with the respect a home owner should receive. I look forward to working with this company and I'm sure I'll be pleased with the outcome.

Received a call the morning of the service checking in on availability. Received a second call from the electrician in route. He arrived on time. Really appreciated these calls too. Electrician was pleasant, efficient. He removed old lighting fixations and installed new lighting fixations. The job was completed quickly and accurately. I had a few questions on the new lighting as well which were answered pleasantly. Also, the total cost came in under the original phone quote. Will definitely call Hyman Electrical for our next service.

One of the original (i.e. old) electrical outlets literally melted down on us while we were away. Upon returning to the house, about a quarter of our service was out, since the melt-down tripped the circuit breaker (fortunately!). Really needing to get our service restored -- lights in the bedroom, one bathroom, an office were out -- I called Hyman at about 8:30 am. They called back an hour later saying that a crew would arrive between noon and 2 pm. The crew -- Alec and Mike -- arrived at 1 pm. They were gone a little over an hour later. Alec took pains to explain to me exactly what the problem was and why it occurred: while no devices were on when the meltdown happened, the outlet's contacts had degraded over time and eventually shorted out. He and Mike quickly replaced this outlet and then fixed the light fixture (I thought it was in the switches, but it was only in the simple overhead stairway fixture). Mike suggested that I consider replacing any other two-pronged outlets in the house that were in regular use. I found two, and they quickly replaced those as well. Prior to leaving, Alec suggested that, given the age of the house and its wiring (60+ years old), I consider having a separate circuit installed for one area of the house where I use a space heater in the winter, walked me through what was involved and gave me a price range, subject to a precise bid it I decided to go forward. These guys were so good that I might well have taken his advice on the spot if they had time to do the work, which they didn't. Whatever electrical work I need to have done in the future, I now know who I'll call. These guys are really good. They're responsive. And, based on what I've seen on Angie's List about prices from other contractors, their prices are very fair.

Hyman Electric provided the best service out of any of the various contractors we approached for work on the house we purchased. The appointment was made in less than one week. Jeremy from Hyman Electric showed up on time for the appointment. He provided an estimate for each item that we requested done. The prices were very reasonable. He started work the very same day. He was professional and courteous--wearing plastic covers over his shoes, taking great care with our new fixtures, etc. One thing at Hyman that jumps out is their excellent communication. Jeremy called us before he left for our house and when he finished up for the day and was leaving. They couldn't finish everything the initial two days they scheduled for us, but called us to apologize for not being able to finish that week and scheduled the final day of work the Monday of the next week. They finished everything up the next time they came, including working around some tricky issues in our kitchen ceiling with pipes and duct work. He cleaned up very nicely after each day of work--lots of drywall dust, etc. Finally, the work is of very high quality. The recessed lights look fantastic. We are very pleased to have found Hyman and would recommend them highly, especially for those in older homes.

Bill Hyman and his Manager Alec were wonderful! Alec came by my house within a 24 hpurs of my initial contact and went thgrough myhouse outlet by outlet before making a recommendation. I have an older home that came with out of dare electrical service and needed the whole thing ovehauled. Hyman Electric was at the house when they said they were going to be there and were responsive to questions. The final cost was close to the estimate provided. The responsiveness to our initial request, the assistance provided in purchasing a fan, and the installation were all professional and extremely helpful. There was an overall sense that no job was too small for them. The installer was professional, helpful and pleasant, as well as thorough. The fan and wiring were installed with no damage to walls or ceiling!

They went way beyond where most electricians would want to go. One of their electricians put his life on the line trying to fix the AC where my daughter sleeps. He fixed a defective line until his boss could come out and completely replace the whole line. He did this so that we could have power throughout the entire house. He didn't have to do that. All he had to do was assess the damage and recommend that it be replaced. It is a small, family owned company, and the next day the head of the company came out and installed a service line himself. They were not cheap, but you get what you pay for. They are nice courteous people who went out of their way in extreme heat.

I recently moved and renovated my new home, and asked Mr Hyman if he could send his technician Byron, to my home to check all light switches and outlets for safety, to repair and upgrade where needed, to install new light fixtures,inside and outside the house. I have used Byron before, and new his work was excellent. He proved againthat he is knowledgeable, efficient, pleasant, and works neatly and carefully. Byron went the extra mile, suggestingadditional fire alarms, replacing a couple of outlets in my kitchen, which were not standard safety code. After Byron left, I realised I needed some clarification with my outside timers. I called Mr Hyman, who had Byron return within a few hours, along with another technician, who was equally knowledgeable and helpful. This company and their employeesexcellent, and I highly recommend them and will use them always in the future for my Electrical needs.Thanks. Rhonda

The light switch for the overhead recessed lights in my kitchen only worked intermittently. People were coming over, so I needed a rather quick repair. At my initial call, I was told they would put me on their schedule but warned it could be more than 24 hours, so I might want to call other electricians, too. The other electricians were busy as well, so I kept my appointment with Hyman. The technician came exactly within the projected time frame, diagnosed the problem and repaired it within ten minutes. The price was competitive. Couldn't ask for more. Light switch replacement.

The tech came to my house at the scheduled appointment time (actually he had gotten sick an they had to reschedule. They called and informed me that they had to reschedule). Looked around and explained to me what he needed to do to install an on/off switch for the garbage disposal. He had to put in a new circuit breaker and electrical line just for the garbage disposal. He informed me it was due to building codes or maybe just company policy, I forget now. In any case, performed the job in about 2 hours, very professional and very nice guys. Left everything in working order and they cleaned up after themselves. I thought it was a bit expensive, but frankly, in the DC area everything is expensive and since I do not have a point of reference, I have to go with what they said. I highly recommend them for any electrical work.

Bill, Alec, and Alan were all wonderful to work with. Prompt, very responsive to my questions and changes to our list of projects.They came out quickly to walk through the house for our full project list for our estimate. Then when we compared their estimate with others we were impressed and convinced by other reviews that they would do a good job. The electrician was able to start on our project quickly once we gave them the final list of items that needed to be fixed.By using a lock box we were able to leave a key with the electrician and did not have to be there each morning and afternoon to let them out.The job took them three days and two hours and they finished ahead of the original timeline they gave us! Their work was very well done and has greatly improved the value of our home as well as how we will be able to enjoy it.

The electricians were excellent - professional and very efficient. I will use them again and would recommend them to others.
