They were great. They didn't talk down to me and taught me a few new things regarding electrical service. They were professional, easy to work with and on-time.

I called them back to fix it and they didn't position it correctly again. I ended up fixing it myself. The electrician was very casual about this and I thought the service was very expensive. I had previously used their service for external plugs and this was a good experience, but this was with a different electrician.

Great service from BIll Hyman and his team. Professional and prompt, great communication, and extremely knowledgeable of old houses and wiring issues. Called on Saturday (Thanksgiving weekend no less!), received callback on Sunday, scheduled estimate on Monday, service completed on Wednesday. There are probably cheaper options out there, but why bother? We had a "handyman" review our electrical issues (intermittent power in a garage apt.) last summer, and he essentially shrugged it off citing heat and outlet connector issues. Fast forward to last week when the entire apt went dark--and we had a houseguest arriving on Friday! Went to Angie's List, found Bill's listing, and here we are. Will definitely be calling Bill and team again.

Bill Hyman was incredibly responsive to every contact. His price was a wee bit higher than the lowest provider, but it took that one a full week to get back to us after our initial email contact. The service was performed on time, with full clean-up afterwards, and we cannot be happier with them. Allan and Mike were the men who came to the house, both very pleasant and polite. I have two large skylights, one of which has had a condensation problem, and both of which have heat gain issues. Several people have suggested to me that a fan should be installed in each skylight. I called Hyman Electric because I had an unusual problem, and I knew Hyman Electric for many years had had a superb reputation. I spoke to Mr. Hyman and asked him whether his firm could come out to my house to install fans in the skylights. Instead of responding that an electrician would come out to my house, he spent about half an hour on the phone with me exploring my problem of condensation and heat gain in the skylights. At the end of the conversation, he recommended other, and probably significantly cheaper options than electrical work, namely a larger interior gutter to one of the skylights to trap more moisture and using film for tinting the skylights to reduce heat gain. He also suggested the types of workmen I should contact. I was very impressed that he was giving me all this advice without charge when he easily could have simply sent out someone to do the electrical work for which I contacted him. Note: since no services were performed, rating is based on the quality of the advice Mr. Hyman provided.

We called for an estimate and Bill Hyman answered and asked if we could text message a photo of the box to be replaced. He then sent us a detailed proposal a couple of hours later which we accepted. Work was scheduled for the following week and the friendly and highly competent crew of 2 arrived on time and completed the work by the early afternoon (about 6 hours). Quality of installation was excellent and most of the old cables were re-routed to the top of the new panel which reduced the mass of wires around the box and greatly improved the appearance. Work area was left clean.

I followed Bill's instructions and was able to resolve two of my issues. The other, relating to one of my exterior lights, Bill determined was originally a DIY project and would not require a contractor to fix. Bill also asked that I follow up with him to ensure my problem was resolved. While I certainly appreciate saving the $75 for a service call, his integrity, honesty and willingness to walk me through the fixes myself has my future business.

We called Hyman Electric because of a circuit that could not be reset in our electrical panel. The electricians examined the problem and recommended that we replace the entire panel. We knew that the panel was old so we decided to go ahead. The job took an entire work day. The team worked steadily throughout the day. They cleaned up nicely and explained their work once it was all complete. They said they will help us with the County inspection and the Pepco follow up. We appreciate their prompt response to our call.

Jeremy and Mike were great. I was told they would arrive early in the morning. They not only arrived at a reasonable time, but let me know when they were en route. The owner himself sent me a message, as well, to let me know. When they arrived, they took stock of what they had to work with, answered all my questions (many of which were beyond the call of duty), and got to work. The two of them have a fun banter, and I was comfortable being around them for what ended up being a full day project. Furthermore, I had to run a few errands and left for lunch at one point, and not once was I concerned about having them in the house without me. In addition, they were tidy about the holes they had to make in my walls and made them with my future patchwork in mind. They also cleaned up the place thoroughly before leaving. When they finished, Jeremy gave me a price that was more than fair considering they ended up having to drill through cement blocks to install the conduit for the TV cables. On a final note, I really appreciated that my initial conversation was with the owner, Bill. He talked to me about what I was looking for and even asked me to text pictures to him so he could get a better Idea before giving a quote. From there, I was able to communicate with him via phone or text and he was very responsive. On the day of the work, I also had Jeremy's number and was able to communicate with him via phone or text which was part of what made me comfortable with leaving for errands, etc. I knew that if he had to leave or needed me for anything that he would contact me. I would definitely call them back if I need additional work done in the future.

I telephoned Hyman Electric because there was a electrical smell coming from the outlet where my television, DVR, and phone are connected. Mr. Hyman answered the call himself and asked me to check whether the outlet was hot where the smell was coming from. He was able to see (after giving him my address) that I had a window air conditioner and seemed to know that there was too much connected to one circuit. Mr. Hyman sent two of his electricians, Jeremy and Mike, to handle the issue. Jeremy took a look at the problem, showing and explaining all issues to me. He gave me a written estimate, and let me decide whether I wanted them to perform the work. Of course, I did agree, and he and Mike immediately got to work. There was a lot of old burnt wiring in all wall sockets, with a great possibility of an electrical fire. I was very pleased and impressed with Hyman Electrical. They are specialists in old home electrical problems. They were also neat and cleaned up all messes upon completion, showing all work performed. The cost was a little more than I expected, but with this being a safety issue, I cannot complain.

The electricians showed up on time and started working immediately. The work took most of the day and they verified and labeled all the circuits before cleaning up the work area. In addition to the work itself, Bill (the owner) was very thorough and inspected the rest of the house to make sure there would be no issues with passing the county inspection. He noted a carbon monoxide detector would be needed and had his guys install one at the time of the panel work. Hyman Electric also coordinated all subsequent inspections and services (county and Pepco). A question came up during the county inspection and Bill was able to discuss the issue real-time. He agreed to add some shielding to the exterior cable and the electricians showed up the next day to complete the work. We had no issues with the work completed and the price was exactly as quoted. We will definitely use Hyman Electric for all future electrical work and recommend them.

Mr. Hyman came promptly a few hours after I called. When he came, he looked at the smoke detector on the second floor which was the original unit, over 30 years old. Judging from the model, he said there had to be a second unt which he found in the basement. Because he only had one unit with him, he said he would come back the next day to replace it. However, he came back the same day, which I really appreciated. Service was great.

The service went really well. It was by far one of the best experiences I've had with an electrical contractor. Mr. Hyman is very personable, informative and very very responsive.

This most recent visit from Hyman Electric went very well. They were scheduled to install recessed lighting in my dining room and kitchen and I ended up adding in additional services of upgrading and grounding some outlets, wiring my sconces to a switch and installing a new outlet. A team of three electricians came within the 1/2 hour window of time they said they would arrive. They were very courteous and quickly got set up and acquired the information they needed from me. They had the living room lighting installed with minimal mess in less than three hours and it looked fantastic. They paid particular attention to the design of the room and installed each of the new lights in a symmetrical pattern so the room was illuminated perfectly. The remaining projects were completed quickly and effectively all to my complete satisfaction. This is the fourth time I have hired Hyman Electric. They have also upgraded my fuse box, installed an outdoor security light and installed an outlet in the kitchen for our over the stove microwave. I have always been very satisfied with the work they have completed for me. They are responsive to my requests for service, they call back quickly the same day and are always punctual and clean.
