 + -1 moreMy motion sensor security lights have been having issues for about a year. One light no longer turned on and the other light turned on but did not turn off. I called Tomato and scheduled an appointment. I also said that I'd email them a photo of the lights just so they knew what they were dealing with when they came out. After I emailed the photo Bob sent several suggestions of things I could try just to make sure I wasn't paying for a service call if the bulb was just burned out or the light switch wasn't on the proper setting. Once it was determined that someone needed to come out I told him that I'd buy the replacement lights and have them here. The electrician that came out was on time and very professional. He answered a bunch of questions, showed me how to change the bulbs and cleaned up the mess. I really like the fact that Bob uses email as well as the telephone. It was very easy getting a quick response from him. This is the second time I've used Tomato and both times I have not been disappointed.
Description of Work: They replaced my security lights mounted on the outside of the house.

 + -1 moreWonderful! I was impressed with the service, professionalism and quick response to any problems. Two workers came to the house for several hours and stayed until the job was complete. Upon arriving at the house, they were already clear on what was to be completed due to previous discussions and immediately got to work on those projects. When they began the work on the outlets and had gotten into the walls, they found that the job was more extensive than originally anticipated. They discussed my options with me, gave me a new (reasonable) estimate and provided services beyond my expectations. They took care of contacting the inspector and electric company. Before they completed the work, I was informed as to when the inspector would come to our home. Once the inspector came to the home, the electricians quickly responded to me in regards to a minor problem that had occurred, which was not due to them having done the job incorrectly. They were also responsive in communicating with the inspector right away to correct the misinterpretation of the code. The work was done well and we feel much safer in our home now that the work is complete. We would contact Tomato Electric in the future for any electrical needs.

 + -1 moreTomato was prompt in returning phone calls and accommodating in scheduling appointments. On the first day, the team was unable to perform the work because it was pouring rain and the work was outside, so we rescheduled. The electricians showed up right on time both days and were very polite. They performed their work and cleaned up after themselves thoroughly. The quality of the work was very good. The one disappointment was pretty major, though: As it had been a while since we got the estimate and discussed where the outlets on the deck were to go, apparently, the electrician remembered something different from what we had asked for. He did not double-check with me before installing the outlets, and by the time I realized he had done it, it was too late. We had asked for outlets on both ends of the deck, but we got them on either sides of the stairs. One is where we wanted it, but the other is about 5 or 6 feet away from where we had wanted it. Both electricians insisted that this was where my husband had asked to have it installed, but I am sure we were very clear, as we had always wanted it on the end of the deck. In any case, I wish he had just verified placement with me before he started installling it. I asked what it would take to put another one where we wanted it, and it would've added another $100 to the job, so we decided not to do it.
Description of Work: Install one new and replace one existing light sconce on the exterior wall of our home, install motion detector light on the exterior wall, and install two exterior electrical outlets on deck.

He kept me informed of the progress as he addressed several of the concerns that I had. If there was more than one option in fixing the specific problem, he would explain the situation and we would decide how to proceed. Overall excellent work.
Description of Work: Installed 4 ceiling fans with new support brackets, replaced 5 GFIs, reinstalled ceiling fixture and found problem with several nonfunctional outlets.

 + -1 moreTo call an electric company at 2PM 3 days before Christmas, and have them offer to be there in one hour, was the gift of the entire season for me. I got off of work, and begged my boss if I could leave by 2:30 to get home, and Tomato electric was already waiting there for me in the parking lot in front of my home, 5 minutes before 3!They were prompt,courteous, professional, and did their best to find out what else needed to be done while they were already there, because the extra wire problem needed to be fixed too, and I didn't realize I could have it done so easily and quickly along with the kitchen outlet problems! Tomato Electric saved the day for me, and saved all the cold food in my refrigerator, when other companies did not even call me back! I will ONLY use Tomato Electric from now on, for anything electric, because they were fabulous, AND reasonable! I'm pretty picky and cheap, so you can count on my evaluation as being 100% reliable.I was almost afraid of sharing this info because I don't want them to be too busy to help me the next time I call in an emergency! LOL! The best part, is that they live right nearby, so I am patronizing my own community's business members. I always try to do that when I can.
Description of Work: Replaced the 2 ICFT's in my kitchen that were apparently no longer operable, and were causing numerous outages in many of the outlets on the whole 2nd floor of my 16 yr old town home. The last outlets to go just happened to be the ones that operated my refrigerator and microwave oven, therefore causing me a great deal of stress 3 days before Christmas when my family was due to come in from out of town! I was desperate! I had no idea what was causing all these problems, in addition, I had a few other outlets in the upper level where the hallway and bathroom had been inoperable for many years, but I just never used them. I mentioned those to the electricians and they said they would get to the bottom of it, and quickly traced it back to a faulty wiring in my master electrical box. They promptly fixed everything and also tested and changed the fixture bulb on my front entry light, which is difficult for me to do, since it has to be with a ladder and I'm a 55 yr old woman, I don't do ladders! LOL!These people are exceptional workmen, and worked quickly, effectively, and left absolutely no mess whatsoever. I was taught by them that the ICFT's in the house, are replaced as a normal maintenance thing, and I told all my single women neighbors who also have been experiencing the same issue in these homes, and did not know the causes of the outlet problems. I gave them Tomato Electric's number, so I am sure they will be busy in our neighborhood!

 + 0 moreWe called Tomato Electric on a Monday evening, and they had a terrific electrician at our house at 7:30 am the next morning. The closet work is next to my home office, where I had too much loaded on the circuit. In the process of clearing the wires in the closet and moving/adding lighting there, he identified a means of giving me a new circuit in my office for only $200 above the original $350 estimate. We were thrilled. At the same time, he gave us a very reasonable estimate to "heavy-up" our electric service and install a new box. We will do that work next week.
Description of Work: Moving wires in an existing closet with exposed ductwork and studs to make room for finishing the closet area. Relocating light fixture from wall to ceiling and adding another ceiling light; moving switch to outside of closet. Separating electrical line into two circuits and adding circuit breaker to box in the basement.

 + -1 moreWe had a water leak in our main electrical cable coming into the house. Needless to say this really concerned us. We had been planning to leave on a trip the next day but we were concerned that this would keep us from going. Tomato Electric responded right away and told us not to worry and to go on the trip - the work could wait until we returned. The only reason we didn't use them is that their price was slightly higher than another contractor. The estimate was for replacement of the main electrical wire and heavy up of the circuit breaker.

 + -1 moreI called Tomato Electric at noon today to repair the electrical connections for my garage door opener. The representative told me that they may not be able to send someone out today, but he would try. Two hours later, the service technician arrived and started to diagnose the problem. He reviewed all of the electrical connections and then diagnosed the problem with my path lights. For the garage, they determined where the problem was (within the box, not electrical) and recommended some solutions. For the path lights, they determined the problem was the transformer (no power) and recommended that I purchase a higher voltage transformer given the number of lights I had connected. The service technician was knowledgeable, professional, timely and helpful. I will definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: The service technician tested the electrical connections for my garage door opener and checked the transformer for my outdoor path lights.

Description of Work: Diagnose and repair electrical connection for a new hot water tank. Bob found that a wire in my electrical box had come loose and had been arcing across an air gap for a while, burning up its insulation and damaging the breaker. Reinsulated the wire, replaced the breaker and cleaned up the electrical box a bit.

 + 0 moreI called to set up an appointment and was quoted time and material pricing. I set up the appointment for 7:30 in the morning. Two electricians came right on time. They politely introduced themselves and we went over the list of jobs. They quickly got to work and were VERY professional. They put drop cloths down, cleaned up after themselves, and completed every job without any problems. I could not have been happier with their work. This is a well-run company.
Description of Work: In my 80-year-old house I had them install two new outlets, two cable lines, two light fixtures and replace two switches. The cable and electrical outlets need to be brought from the basement to the second floor without damaging finished walls.

 + -1 moreIt went very well. Paul and Chris were at our door at the promised starting time 7:30 AM, in fact were parked in front of our house early. One focused on phone/data lines and the other installed the outdoor fixtures. The data cable to the office was looking like a problem, but Paul noted a TV cable running from the dining room to our TV in the living room and suggested if he moved the cable to the wall directly behind the TV it would give him a way to view the wall next to the office and a way to safely run the data line from the basement to the office. Nice neat solution. They were very neat, used a drop cloth as needed, moved fragile items, and put everything back as they found it and they double checked their work. Everything was accomplished as we wished and they finished at 10:15 AM.
Description of Work: Installed 3 outdoor sconces and a post lamp with a photocell. Relocated a TV cable line, activated two dead phone lines, tightened connections on a sometimes faulty doorbell and installed a new Internet cable from the basement to our sun room/office in what turned out to be a complex task. Owner supplied the lights and photocell.
