Thomas E Clark was on time and very professional. The plumbers wore shoe covers and cleaned up everything once they were finished. They were even careful to keep the door closed so my pets couldn't get out. After I noticed a small, slow leak in the kitchen faucet they installed, I called and was given the first appointment of the day the next day. No waiting around. They fixed the problem immediately for no charge. I was very pleased.

On 5/15, a plumber came to take care of the work noted above. He replaced the valve and installed the new flush mechanism at a cost of $223.00. After he left, I notice a good deal of water on the floor around the toilet. Thinking he might not have cleaned up after he finished, I mopped it up, only to find more water a few minutes later. I determined that it was leaking from the point where the tank sits on the bowl. I called Thomas E. Clark office. They told me I would have to speak to the plumber and that he would call me. When I described the situation he told me that I "must have done something" to cause the leak. When I assured him that I hadn't done anything, he got angry at me because I was "blaming" him. He said he could return on Monday. When I asked about getting someone sooner (this was Thursday), he said he would check and see. I opted to do that myself. I called the main office and was met with a very indifferent receptionist. When I explained the situation, she said that they would send someone out on Friday. On Friday, another plumber arrived. He said I needed new bolts and gasket between the tank and the bowl, which he changed. After he left (about 15 minutes and $214.00 later - after the Angie's List discount) I went into the bathroom and noticed that the tank rocked back and forth when it was touched very lightly. I looked at the base of the tank and could see that the tank was not making contact with the bowl. I called Thomas E. Clark again, asking for a supervisor. The supervisor, Aldo, said he would check with today's plumber and call me back, which he did, telling me that the plumber would return to fix it. The second plumber (third visit) just left. He tightened the bolts in about a minute and told me that the reason the tank was wobbling was that he used a new kind of bolt. When I pointed out that the tank should not have been left in tat wobbly condition, he inexplicably blamed the bolts. So, I asked him why, if the tank is secure now with the same tightened bolts it couldn't have been secured an hour ago with the same bolts. He suggested vaguely that the first plumber might have done something wrong and then said, "That's why we come back to fix these things." Neither point seemed particularly germane. So, I've had to take a day and a half off from work to be here to get this rather simple plumbing chore done. I think the most frustrating part is that no one ever said they were sorry for either the work or for my inconvenience. When I noted to the supervisor that this was costing me hours out of my work day, he didn't respond at all. I should note that we have used Thomas E. Clark for A/C maintenance for a few years now and have been pretty happy with them. Plus, they installed a new gas furnace a few years ago, also well done. But this has really soured us on them. We certainly will not go back to them for plumbing work and I think I'll be watching their performance on A/C maintenance a little more closely in the future!

Response from Thomas E Clark Inc
All companies charge a trip charge to get their technicians, in a fully stocked truck, to a customer's home or place of business. Those that don't, include it in the repair price. We prefer to let our customers know of any and all charges prior to sending one of our technicians and, more importantly, before making any repairs. At that point, it is the customer's decision what they would like to have done. This member was given the courtesy of a complete explanation of charges so that they could make their decision. No hard feelings.

I wanted to replace the water connections in my laundry room. My concern was that they were old and there might be a problem while I was away on a business trip. The plumber came in, we reviewed each of the items, he prepared an estimate and then got to work. All the work was completed in the time he estimated. The only thing that was somewhat disappointing is that he cut into the drywall around the faucets and then determined that he could not position the new faucets as he had hoped. So, he put the drywall back in place with blue tape. Other than that, the job was done well.

We emailed the tech and told him we would need to have an energy evaluation beforehand. He sent someone out without letting us know. We had 2 companies out here doing the same thing until I realized the second guy was with a different company. We could not get the tech to return any of our phone calls nor emails. We had planned on hiringvthem to do the job but its a good thing we didn't.

We have many properties in DC that we rent as temporary housing to interns. For full disclosure...I help run the business online from the state of Indiana, while we have other reps on the ground there in DC. As we have various work performed on our properties, they will report back to me as to the service they received. I just received a text from our gal that is with a tech right now as he is servicing a furnace in one of our historic row homes. He is also installing a CO2 detector. The text I received was: "Can you do a review for them on Angie's List? I love them." So here you go. Her words are, "Thomas E Clark Heating & Cooling. The tech is Itamar. Same guy every time. Super helpful and honest." Mind you, this gal knows how to use some pretty colorful language when it has come to other service providers we have used in the past. Ones that she doesn't like. So when she tells me to give a good review - it must mean something pretty good. I know that we have gone through many HVAC companies and it looks like we are now settling on these guys as our go-to techs.

This was above and beyond and very much appreciated. After that, we signed a service contract with them for both A/C and heating.
Description of Work: My first contact was in the summer of 2013 when we had water leaking from the A/C air handler that was overflowing in the attic on a Friday afternoon around 5pm. I called our A/C provider who had closed for the weekend and there was no option for an emergency. I called Thomas Clark inc and they had someone in our area but when they reached him he was en route home. About 5 minutes later I received a call from Thomas Clark inc to say that this service person had turned around and was on his way to fix our problem.

I have used them few times, and I have mixed feeling about them. In the end, they got what I wanted done, but we had some serious price issues here and there. The plumbing all went pretty well although there were some delays on getting some parts in. The HVAC work, I spent quite a fortune on replacing an air conditioning unit compressor. They did not properly inform me that would void my warranty. So, when it actually failed about a year later not only did I have a total unit warranty expire because they had done the work on it, but the compressor warranty ran out by about a week and the thing had failed again on me. I paid a quite of money again. So, I was a little upset with them about that. In the end, they made it right. I started to pay quite a bit of money, but I got some assurances from them that they would make sure they extend the coverage package on the new work they had done, but I basically had to buy a new air conditioning unit after paying for a new compressor. I was a little frustrated with that, but in the end we worked it out.

We had a radiator burst during the very low temperatures and had trouble finding a plumber since, evidently, many people in the city were also dealing with burst pipes. I called 3 other plumbers all of whom didn't think they would be able to send someone out for several days. Thomas E Clark was able to send someone out the same day - and then called to let me know that the technician was running early and could come even earlier. The technician was very nice and knowledgeable and even showed me how to drain and fill my system for the future. There is an initial fee of about $60 for the tech to come out and assess the problem, but I was happy to pay this given the urgency of the situation. I also know that this fee is lower than some other local comapnies. I would definitely use Thomas E Clark again.

heating stopped working over the weekend. The provider came out on a Sunday . They changed a fuse and looked for a short in the system which they didn't find. They did fix the problem. However, they charged $334 for effectively changing a fuse . When I called the company afterwards to find out why they had charged so much, they told me that they charge $135 just for turning up ( this doesn't include any time) on a Sunday. They then charge by the job , but they don't-give out the rates, but their rates are higher after hours. So they charged $199 for diagnosing, and changing the fuse. I think this is too expensive. I called a different company who could quote their rates for the first half hour and every 15 mins thereafter during the week, and after hours. I would only deal with a company from now on that has a more transparent rate structure.

I had to call a couple of plumbers because I needed someone that day. Another company came to take a look at my shut-off valve and they left my house and the shut-off valve was leaking, I guess because it was so old. Thomas E. Clark came out right away and fixed it. They did a good job. But I think that the plumbing job was more $400 and I thought that was rather high because they did just one thing. I felt that it was too high because the other 2 services I had were so economical. The valve was right they, they just had to cut it and replace it. I know they’re expensive and all that stuff. Maybe that was because they were providing a same-day service. The guy was very professional and very good. They came right away which is what I really needed because it was leaking.

I used Thomas E Clark for two plumbing repairs in my home. When I discovered water in my basement, I had no idea where the water was coming from. The plumber arrived on time and quickly diagnosed the problem. He was able to install a new drain in the tub which solved my mysterious leak. The next problem I encountered was water leaking from the bottom of my toilet. Once again I got a quick response and the plumber installed a new toilet for me. In addition, I had him install a new faucet in the bathroom. I have been extremely happy with the repairs made by Thomas E Clark and plan to use them again in the future.

After coming home to discover that I had a flooding situation, I instantly got to work looking for a plumber. I called one plumber through an answering service and did not get a call back. I called another company and I still have not received a return call. I called Thomas Clark and Debbie was very helpful to assist me. When I called, I was put on a brief hold but she quickly returned to take my information. She told me that she would try to get someone out. Heard that one before! But after about twenty minutes, she called back and informed me that Daniel would be coming past to assist me. She also gave me the service fee price upfront with various ways to pay. When Daniel got to the house he quickly was able to access the situation and he got to work. He told me what happened, ways to fix the problem and ways to prevent the problem from coming back. He was able to complete the job in an hour and half and I had water restored. Thank you so much for responding so quickly, being very efficient and prompt to my home needs.

First let me say that I was extremely pleased with my plumber. He was polite, smart, and answered all of my questions (which were a lot). It was serendipitous that I happened to be home. My child had gotten sick the night before so I had to take off work and just happened to be home when the pipe burst. Talk about crazy luck. Anyways, I was in the kitchen preparing lunch when I heard a "pop" followed by a the sound of rushing water. I looked around the corner and saw water all over the floor. I immediately shut off the main water supply line and started to make phone calls. The first couple of plumbers on Angie's List were booked solid, this was the day after the polar vortex and pipes were popping every where. I finally got a plumber on the line but he wanted to charge me 444/hour! I said that was too high and I would need to make some more calls. I guess I got lucky again because the next call I made was to Thomas E. Clark. They said they could be there in an hour or two and there was a $69 service fee. I said fine. While waiting for the plumber I removed the wainscot panelling to access the pipes. This is when I saw the pipe had burst at the soldering on a cold water line just past the shut off valve to the outside faucet. This is when I got lucky a third time! The pipes were to the "old" kitchen and capped on the other side of the wall. All the plumber had to do was cap the line just after the valve. While he was there I had him cap the "old" hot water line, this happened to be a good idea because this pipe was frozen solid! The plumber recommended adding some insulation but more importantly adding a grill to the panelling. It would allow me easier access to the shut off value and the warm house air flowing to the pipes would prevent them from freezing in the future. What a great suggestion!

Hector was very professional, called before arriving, arrived even a few minutes ahead of time. He was pleasant, seemed knowledgeable and communicated well with us, answering all our questions. Scheduling the appointment was easy and the person I talked with on the phone, George, was very helpful. We recently purchased an 81 year old home with a gas boiler and radiator heat system, very old and not sure of how well it was working. We had turned it off because of very high gas and water bills which we felt might be because of leaks or other problems in the system. We called Thomas E. Clarke to service and evaluate any issues with the system and hopefully to get it up and running. Hector spent about 2 hours or more at the house. Final recommendation was because of the many issues with the system and the cost of parts needed to make the repairs, he recommended that replacing the system would be more cost efficient. We are currently scheduling an estimate with Thomas E. Clarke to evaluate our options of staying with a boiler and radiator system or changing to a central heat and air system or ductless mini-split system.

When I called to tell them about my plumbing issues I was told that they will charge me a fee for just driving to my home. $69.00. Then I was told they will charge me a fee for each issue that I needed them to fix. I have to shop around first before I put money out. And $69.00 is too much. I could see if the $69.00 would be deducted if I get the work done. With all that being said I will still shop around.

David Moore arrived on time and after he removed our toliet in the basement and cleared out the drain outside our basement bathroom everything was back to normal. We had used another company that came out twice but they were not able to clear the lines so after a week we were thrilled when David Moore handled our problem. I cannot say enough good things about this company. Out of the three companies I called this morning, Thomas E Clark Inc was the only one who was able to send someone today to help. Edwin, our plumber, was professional and quickly fixed the problem. He cleaned up after himself so the bathroom still looked in good shape when he left.
