The technician was very responsive and professional but the price was high for what amounted to 2 hours of work that included waiting for a new toilet to be delivered (the one on the truck was chipped). The price of the toilet at a big box store would have been half of what they charged.
Description of Work: The plumber showed up early and was very professional. He replaced the tank flaps on 4 toilets and replaced a 5th toilet and replaced an outside water faucet.

Quick response to request for a bid. The price was probably a bit on the high side but the work was excellent and the workers were knowledgeable and courteous. One connection developed a small leak about a month later and they promptly came and fixed the problem.

Overall it went well. The plumber was competent, professoinal, polite and punctual. I thought it was a little high but maybe not since I haven't had that much plumbing work in a while. The only thing I found annoying was that they didn't call with the estimate as they said they would. I called the office on Saturday asking about the estimate. She couldn't help me but left them a message. They called with the estimate about 7 AM Monday just about 1.5 hours prior to their appearance to do the repair.
Description of Work: We discovered water leaking from within a wall. We called. The plumber came ($69), suggested it was a pinhole leak in a pipe within the wall, and gave an estimate to open the wall ($175). I decided to first try to stop the leak by recaulking the bathtub. That didn't work. We had them come out open the wall and found the pipe leak. We scheduled the repair for the following Monday. He said they would call with an estimate prior to the plumber coming on Monday. Several pipes were replaced ($1800). The repair took about 4-5 hours.

Efran was great. He was on time, professionally dressed, and took care to put his booties on when walking through the house. He quickly cleaned the drain and then did numerous things to attempt to replicate the banging we hear in the pipes. Of course, he was not able to do so. It was not for lack of trying and I very much appreciated his efforts. He had a number of thoughts on why it would happen, but was not able to hear it himself, and therefore did nothing about it. I was super pleased that he did not charge me to do something that I might not have needed and might not have worked to fix the problem. I would definitely call them again.

I needed a plumber to look at the drain in my basement that had overflowed with sewage after our last big storm. Since they are a multi-service company I also asked if someone could look at the humidifier in the basement. The women who answer the phone are friendly enough and scheduled a plumber to come out who could also look at the humidifier. Day of service - they called to say plumber coming out could not do hvac so they would have to send someone later in the day to look at humidifier but they would split the $69 trip charge between the two. Bottom line, the plumber who showed up was beyond worthless, extremely rude and even suggested that maybe someone was doing their business down the drain pipe. I told him to leave my house immediately.

We had a representative out to take measurements and discuss our hvac replacement. We wanted a high efficiency unit. After discussing how the unit by our preferred manufacturer would be installed, we purchased the voucher online through Angie's list and waited for the detailed proposal. The proposal came in and Thomas E. Clark substituted an inferior unit. When we ask why and reiterated our preference for another manufacturer's product, we were told it wouldn't fit. We had another hvac contractor out and they told us, that while tight, they could make it work. We went with the other hvac contractor, got the equipment we wanted and are pleased with the installed outcome. Our only regret was purchasing the voucher based on the information we were given by the representative who first came to our house. We believe Thomas E. Clark is a good company, but would feel better about the situation if they or Angie's list could refund us our money for the unused voucher.

We had a dishwasher issue with the washer filling with water and leaking. I had initially called a dishwasher specialist and had to wait 1 1/2 weeks for an appointment. After waiting that long, the individual finally showed up after 6pm, determined the dishwasher was fine, offered no suggestions, and left me with the same problems I had before he arrived. Completely useless. We are new to this area (new to the state of Maryland) so I decided to go to Angie's List for a plumber. I chose Thomas Clark based on a majority of positive reviews. I called on Tuesday and the receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. I received an early morning appointment for the next day. The gentleman, Chris, arrived on time, was friendly and professional. He did some trouble shooting and eventually fixed the issue by re-doing the pipes under my sink so that the dishwasher could drain better. He was neat and clean and worked quickly. He guaranteed his work for a year. He also looked at an upstairs sink for me that has a foul odor. He gave some simple suggestions and told me if they didn't work he would come back to look at it and would not charge me a service fee (by the way, Clark's service fee was $30 less than the dishwasher service company's service fee). I am very happy and satisfied with the service I received from start to finish.

I was very pleased with the professionalism of the company representative.
Description of Work: When my home was inspected prior to settlement the inspector recommended have a scope put down the drain to inspect for tree roots that could possibly obstruct the pipes. I contacted Thomas E. Clark Plumbing to request an estimate and they sent a plumber the same day. The plumber I spoke to (Unfortunately I can't find his card withg his name) was very helpful and recommended that I NOT get this done as their was no indication that there was any problem in the drain lines. He reviewed things that I should look for to indicate problems and said to call anytime if a problem develops. I was not charged for the visit.

Excellent! It was our first time to use Thos. E. Clark. I called on Thursday at noon and was given a choice of service call times for the following day. I chose the 12-4pm period. The plumber was available around noon but my husband was actually running a little late so I called the dispatcher and we agreed the plumber should take his lunch break and meet my husband at 12:30. The plumber figured out the problem very quickly, explained it to my husband, and made the repair without having to open the wall or the ceiling below. He soldered the pipe and reattached the faucet. He noticed that the caulking in that bathroom was not sufficient, so he re-caulked all around as needed. He cleaned up everything and left no mess at all. My husband had him take a look at our kitchen faucet handle which seem a little loose, and our kitchen sprayer that was dripping slightly. He was able to adjust and advise! We are extremely pleased and will definitely call them anytime we need plumbing help.
Description of Work: Repaired upstairs tub pipe that had been leaking through the wall and ceiling below. We expected this to be a huge and expensive project requiring drywall, tile, etc. to be repaired so we procrastinated for several weeks before calling a plumber. We just didn't use that tub during that period. The plumber from Thos. E Clark was able to determine the problem quickly and make the repair without damaging the wall or the tile. The job was much faster and less expensive than we had feared!

The move seemed to go smoothly although we were a bit troubled that the technician determined that our condenser needed some replacement parts and more refrigerant (at a significant extra charge) despite another Thomas E Clark technician confirming the system was in good working order just a few weeks earlier. Nevertheless, the technician left with the system working and everything seemed to be fine. A few hours later, the breaker for the condenser unit popped off and wouldn't reengage. A new technician who came to look at it determined that the condenser had failed and needed to be replaced. We were frustrated by this turn of events (it didn't help that it was about 100 degrees at the time) and contacted the sale representative who arranged the work. We were also contacted by Thomas E Clark's scheduler about arranging for the work to replace the condenser. Both encouraged me to speak to the owner of the company and assured me that Thomas E Clark takes ensuring customer satisfaction very seriously. They were right. As far as I know, there's no way to definitively determine why the condenser failed - whether Thomas E Clark was at fault somehow. However, it was clear that the owner, Mr. Hartman, just didn't feel comfortable with what had happened. Without our making any demand, he decided that Thomas E Clark would replace the condenser unit at no charge to us and made arrangements for it to happen as quickly as possible. I assume most companies that have survived any length of time can perform acceptably when everything goes well. We all know that how people and companies respond when things don't go well is the true test of character, integrity, etc. Here, Thomas E Clark couldn't have performed better. Needless to say, I will never bother to call anyone else.
Description of Work: We hired Thomas E Clark to move the condenser unit for our air conditioning system away from our main outdoor seating areas.

I got a second opinion from a different company. The second repairman said the fan motor was bad, and it could be replaced at some cost (about $700), though since the unit is very old the replacement might not be a great idea. He couldn't understand how the previous repairman could know whether or not there was a leak. Forget his exact words. Anyway, I believed the second man more than the first. The couldn't both be right. I could be wrong about all this. A new bit of information -- the thermostat they sold me for $200 is available at Home Depot for $50. It took about ten minutes for them to install. That is annoying. Changing their grade from C to D.
Description of Work: Two men came to diagnose and repair my HVAC system (heat pump and coil). They said the heat pump was dirty and leaking freon. They offered to clean it for $200 and add Freon, though they couldn't guarantee that would fix it. I had them clean it, it worked for two days, then died completely.

The plumber arrived in a timely fashion, was very pleasant, knowledgeable and got right to work. He had all the needed parts on his truck. He fixed the faucet very competently. I tipped him, despite the company's high charge. My complaint is that I paid $510 to repair a leaky faucet. I could have seen paying $300, since the replacement part is around $120 - but the plumber was here no more than 1 hour. Maybe I should switch from lawyer to plumber, so I could charge higher hourly rates. You have to pay over $100 (on weekend), just to get them to stop by and give you an estimate. The initial fee is not included in the charge for work, but companies that do this (most plumbers) know that you're a prisoner at that point.

Thos. Clark missed first appt. window their dispatcher arranged with us. (11:30 - 3pm) Waited until nearly 4pm before I called them. Couldn't wait any longer that day. Two days later they initiated leak test for $418. Said they'd come back 48 hours later to evaluate results of test. Again their dispatcher gave us a specific time for "same (tech's first stop of the day" "around 8am" etc. Didn't arrive at 8am, 9am or 10am, upon which we called to see if/when they'd arrive. Different tech (than one who performed leak test) arrived near 10:30am. This tech said leak test showed there were leaks both at inside unit coil and outside unit condenser coil. Leaks he said they couldnt/wouldn't'/ and didn't typically fix. In the midst of historic 100 degree heat wave, we decided to simply have T.Clark reconnect the system and add freon...knowing we'd possibly have to replace AC system soon. Tech consulted with his boss, T.Clark DC "owner" Mike Hartman. Tech then said it would cost us the same $418 to reconnect and charge system as we requested. We found this exorbitant, particularly in view of all the delays and our time that was wasted by T.Clark late/non appt. keeping. Tech said his boss wanted to discuss with me on phone, which I did. We argued over situation for 30 minutes. I felt it very difficult to impossible reasoning with him. Finally Mr. Hartman offered to reconnect our system for $349...he had argued that he was now paying a tech overtime as it was a Satruday. I replied that he wouldn't have to be paying overtime had his tech not missed appt. earlier in the week. We agreed on the $349 reconnect fee...Tech performed the service. We had paid $418 earlier in the week for the leak test by credit card. Being asked to pay $349 more 2 days later, we decided to pay per Thos. E. Clark's written terms (30 days) on its invoice. I informed the tech of that choice upon signing the T.Clark invoice. A couple of hours later, Mike Hartman -T.Clark owner/president arrived at our residence, pounded aggressively on our door. He entered our home and demanded we pay the $349 immediately and re-initiated the heated discussion he and I had had earlier by phone. We told him we had every intention of paying the bill within the stated terms of his invoice. Hartman said we were tricking him somehow and said we "had no class". We encouraged him to read his own paperwork, and to leave. We have the paperwork with T.Clark's stated payment terms on file. As residents of the area for more than 10 years who have used all kinds of service providers for all kinds of services -- never encountering such a negative situation. We enthusiastically encourage anyone and everyone who choose this company to be very proactive in understanding what service you will receive for what cost. And to re-confirm anything written on any T.E. Clark document. Perhaps you will fare better but, needless to say, we found Thos. E Clark's overall performance unsatisfactory in the least and Mr. Hartman's behavior to be irrational, bullying and downright unconscionable.
Description of Work: Our AC was not cooling. T.Clark recommended Leak Test. Eventually performed the test. Said there was a leak both inside and out, but couldn't and/or wouldn't fix leak in either internal or external coils. Charged us roughly same amt. to reconnect our AC system after their Leak Test rendered it inoperable. Then failed to honor its own stated Terms after presenting us with the bill.

Response from Thomas E Clark Inc
It is true in the 100+ degree heat we had challenges meeting our arrival windows all week, but we ALWAYS ARRIVED where we comitted to arriving. The leaks in the customers A/C system are in both the outdoor condensing coil and in the indoor evaporator coil. Those leaks are impossible to repair without tearing up the coils. It's not that we WOULDN'T make the repairs, it's that we COULDN'T without severly damaging the coils. Whenever coils are found to be leaking they are replaced. The customer was extremely angered with the results of the leak test and that the coils could not be repaired. I understand this frustration as we deal with it every time there is a heat wave and we are the bearers of bad news. So on a Saturday, on OVERTIME, in 100+ degree heat, we put everything back together, evacuated the system and recharged it with freon for $349. Our normal hours rate for this is $467. I gave the customer a $98 discount for our tardiness. Our overtime rate would've been $641. When my technician finished, the customer informed him that he was going to pay in 30 days per our Terms & Conditions on our work order. There is a collection clause on our work order for account customers who are late in paying their bill. In my 20+ years in this industry, I have NEVER had a customer "decide" that they were going to give themselves an account and take 30 days to pay. In fact, the customer himself has used our service 3 times in 2 years, before this past Saturday, and paid COD EVERY TIME. Since I was at the office, which is very close to the Reilly residence, I decided to stop by on my way home to collect the $349. After being invited in by Mrs. Reilly, I was invited to leave by the customer after I informed him that he didn't have an acount and I wanted to collect the $349 for that day's service. What I received was a barrage of accusations of running a scam, being a crook, etc. etc. I did tell them that they were playing a game with the language on our work order. When I asked them why they didn't take 30 days to pay for all the other service they had no reply. I never raised my voice, never lost my temper or manners, and I never used a curse word even after being called an F-ing A-hole with the promise that this is "so going all over social media." At that point I did tell Mrs. Reilly how much class she had and I left. The Reilly's may have lived in the Silver Spring area for the last 10 years, but I was born and raised in this neighborhood. I attended St. Bernadette, which backs up to their street. I played football, basketball and baseball there. I ran the football program for 10+ years. A lot of my childhood friends still live in the neighborhood. Our company has serviced this area since it's inception. My great-grandfather, Thomas E. Clark, built a lot of those houses. I know this neighborhood and its residents. People in the Four Corners/Woodmoor area do not behave like this.

I thought for sure that they would make us buy a new washtub and pay not only for installing it, but removing the old one in pieces. Chris from Tomas E. Clark took one look and gave us a much cheaper and easier option. Since we were planning on replacing that tub much later when we re-do the basement, Chris installed a wraparound patch that let him put on a new tail-piece and reattach the u-bend. He also cleared the blockage in the drain pipe. After this, Chris went above and beyond by helping us with another minor blockage that cropped up in our bathroom. Chris from Thomas E. Clark saved my vacation!! On top of that, the people I spoke to on the phone to schedule the appointment were kind and courteous and worked around my schedule. A major storm had taken out power to most of the DMV area, and they were more than happy to schedule around when power was restored. They even called just before the appointed time to make sure the power was restored so I didn?t get an extra charge for calling out a plumber when no work could be done. They were all great!!! I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: I tried to clear a blockage in our wash tub, but in doing so I discovered how badly corroded the tailpiece was. Part of it tore away in my hand with hardly any effort. To add to this, the nut holding it was rusted into position. Tried as I like with every wrench I could get, the nut was now permanent fixture on the washtub. I needed a plumber to find a way to either remove the nut and put on a new tail piece to reconnect the u-bend to the drain. I also needed the drain cleared that I started on when all this happened.

Called Thomas E Clark on a weekend because of their claim for no extra night and weekend charges. Technician showed up after 3 hours. Said the charge to come out and diagnose was $104 (twice the nonweekend price) and that any repairs would be discussed with me and agreed to in writing. Bottom line -- he completely misdiagnosed the problem. Claimed he had no power to outdoor unit but misidentified the circuit to the outdoor unit. He then rearranged 6 wires in my breaker panel (making an ungodly mess in the process) and charged me another $200 for his "fix." In the process, he disconnected my upstairs AC, which was working just fine. I called twice to complain to the owner. No response either time. All that stuff on the webpage about owner/operated and how you can talk to the owner turns out to be BS. Now I have to hire a real electrician to fix up my panel, which is sitting wide open.

It went very well overall. The guys wore the shoe cover-ups as I requested. One had his own.
Description of Work: 1. Plumber came out to check kitchen faucet linkage. Said I need to replace the entire faucet. Gave me a price (in his opinion) for the top of the line faucet. Price seemed a little steep. Decided not to get at this time. Just charged for service (half) since I was having the A/C man to come out the same day. 2. Air-Condition Unit. A/C man replaced the breaker. A/C came on. Said I needed to replace the entire unit eventually. Gave me a price if I should decide to replace. Explained what would be involved and how it would be done. Charged me half of the service charge and the amount to replace the bad breaker. Don't get the first quoted price. Check around.

He did a very good job. There may have been some strange interaction over the phone after the work was done, though.
Description of Work: He installed a 6 six faucet for my kitchen sink. He installed an ice maker.
