The product is high quality and the installation crew did an amazing job. The initial sales presentation was too long but because I needed windows and the product was solid and reasonably priced I decided to go for it. My only complaint was that the salesman and the guy who came in after him to measure the windows gave me an estimate of 1 day for installation, which in hindsight was ridiculous. It took two days and the installation guys worked really hard. All told, I am very happy with the windows and highly recommend the company and product.

They didn't get here on the scheduled day but rescheduled for the following Monday leaving my driveway blocked with a dumpster from Friday through Tuesday. They arrived about 09:30 and got started The crew didn't mess around they worked steadily with only the hour for lunch and had the roof completed around 4pm. The next morning another crew came by and did fascia repair and that was done in about an hour. In the afternoon another crew showed up and did the gutters and downspouts completing the job. They did an good job of cleaning up, the dumpster was pulled Tuesday morning which left a little trash in my driveway but when the fascia repair crew showed up I didn't say anything but the supervisor looked at it and said this isn't good enough and had one of his guys sweep and clean it up. All in all I am very pleased with the entire job and would use them again for other projects. I looked at the materials when they were delivered and they were all top quality and I was impressed with the way everyone did the job plus the supervisor for each segment walked me through everything both before and after each job and I had a lot of questions about the roof job which that supervisor did a good job explaining in a way I could understand.

We made an initial appointment for a roof estimate when a PHRG sales representative was going door-to-door through the neighborhood. Other than a few too many phone calls from 3-4 different people to confirm our estimate appointment, we were extremely pleased with the information we received during the presentation, liked the details about the company, but could not afford the roof price quoted. Instead, we decided to get some new windows to 'lock-in' a lower financing option for the current job that would extend to all future renovation jobs we would do with Power. The representatives who came to the home for the roof estimate, pre-installation appointment, and actual installation were all fantastic! Extremely personable and professional individuals who earned the collective 5-star rating. As promised, the actual installation took one day, the installer (John) called to let us know he was on his way, efficiently removed the 9 original windows, installed the new ones, was fastidious with the finishing work both outside and inside, and cleaned up the yard and driveway - even asking for a broom/dust pan to ensure the driveway was free from ANY debris. The installer also maintained the original wood frames on the inside of the home, to include the mullions. PHRG also sent someone to QC the work the evening of the install, which doubled as a sales call. Because we were so pleased with the product and customer service received to date, we did sign up for another project (new front door), which was also guaranteed at a lower financing % than the original windows (because we signed that day, etc.). The approach may not be for everyone, but it definitely worked for us and we're thrilled to be PHRG customers.

We were referred to the Power Home Remodeling Group (PHRG) by a friend of mine who had PHRG performed radiant barrier + insulation installation in his home. Based on his recommendation, on May 13, 2014 we had a Remodeling Consultant come to our home for the estimate for radiant barrier + insulation in the attic. All went alright until we were provided TWO different costs /price for the project. One was about $2000 less than the other. The lesser cost was if we sign the contract RIGHT THERE. The sales technique was very aggressive and later it became abusive. He just won't leave and kept explaining (??) how he is going to save us money. Additionally, we were extremely put-off by the following. (1) The sales person arrived late for the appointment, even though I received a call day before assuring me that a consultant will be at our home sharp 5:30pm. (2) We felt that we were pressured/put on the spot to sign the contract right there to save about $2000. (3) We were told that if we sign the contract at later date then a sales person has to come again to our place with all the paper work for us to sing; since in Maryland it is a law that all the remodeling documents have to be signed in person and on hard copy. And the cost for a sales person to come again is about $2000. Is it really??? (4) My friend signed the contract on the same day of demonstration HOWEVER; he was given an option to cancel the contract within 10-days of signing. WE WERE NEVER GIVEN THIS OPTION. (5) We were misinformed that your company has been awarded the "Super Service Award" on Angie's List. In reality, as of today, PHRG has overall grade "B" on Angie's List. (6) We never got a written estimate; instead we got a few numbers scribbled on his business card.

Response from Power Home Remodeling
First, I’d like to apologize for the inconvenience placed upon you when our remodeling consultant was late for the scheduled appointment. Clearly, we do not intend to keep our customers waiting and we will take appropriate action internally to address the issue. In your message, you mentioned that you were bothered by several things during your experience - I’d like to address each of those and hopefully alleviate some confusion, as we never want to leave a customer feeling disappointed after an appointment. In reference to items 2 and 3, which relate to our pricing structure, we do indeed utilize a pricing model that is centered around efficiencies. We visit hundreds of customers everyday. By offering our customers a steep discount for an agreement that evening, we effectively eliminate costs from the potential project. It is simply more cost-effective for us to come to an agreement on cost if our customers are ready to move forward. And if we can come to an agreement, we push those cost savings right on to the customer for their trust in our products and team. At the same time, we realize asking customers to make a commitment on a large project in one evening is not something everyone can do. Therefore, we believe we offer other cost-effective options that allow you to consider Power while you schedule additional estimates are sit on the quote until you are ready down the line. We are extremely confident in our products, warranties and level of service and while we are transparent that we are not the cheapest game in town, we feel our customers will ultimately choose quality over the lowest bid. In reference to item 4, Power offers, in accordance with all federal and state guidelines, a three day cancelation window for every customer and project. While I can’t speak for what you heard during the appointment, I can say that this policy is in effect for each and everyone of our customers, without exception. Lastly, you were not mis-informed regarding the “Super Service Award”. A few months ago, Power was indeed awarded the Angie’s List “Super Service Award” for our Chicago territory - as you may know, this award is only given to those companies that are reviewed by Angie’s List members in the Top 5% in their respective field. If you’d like to read more about Power winning the Super Service Award, please visit this link: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/power-home-remodeling-group-earns-angies-list-super-service-award-2014-03-31 I’m sorry you did not enjoy your experience with Power, but if you’d like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact me directly using the information below. Team arrival was 0830, well within the 0800-1000 window given. 5-man crew had old roof off in two hours, discovered two soft sheets of plywood and replaced those, and replace the plywood sheet with hole in it where the attic fan was removed. Crew foreman and supplies driver were both very knowledgeable about the new passive ventilation system and showed me the materials. I received two phone calls early during the job: one to ensure the crew arrived, and another to set up a time to meet a Power HRG supervisor and activate the roof warranty. Work was completed in exactly 8 hours, including lunch break. Cleanup was very good--not great, as I found a dozen roofing nails after the team used a magnet on wheels to pick up stray nails. If the magnet had gone over all yard areas, these nails would have been picked up by it. I pointed out an area of dark caulk on white trim that was promptly and thoroughly cleaned off. I was surprised how quiet the job was using nail guns instead of hammers. Although the job was expensive, I feel I got the value I paid for in excellent materials, installation, and likelihood the company will be around should I ever need warranty service.
Description of Work: Replaced standard 3-tab roofing shingles on a 2450 sq.ft. hip roof with GAF Timberline Ultra HD architectural shingles with 50-year warranty. Replaced 3 sheets of roofing plywood. Installed new passive ventilation system and removed roof ventilation fan. Painted all stacks and vents on roof to match roof color. Removed all old materials and restored yard to previous clean condition.

The estimator was very nice and thorough, but took over 4 hours to do his estimate and give us a powerpoint presentation. Though the quality of their products and warranties seemed very high from the presentation, we were extremely put off by the high-pressure sales tactics. He first calculated the price to replace our entire roof, do new gutters with gutter protection, and replace a few windows and a door ($34,000). He had scribbled this on a sheet of paper. But, he said, they could offer a special price if we would sign then and there of something like $27,000. Again, this was just scrawled on a piece of paper, and was based in part on applying a BJ's Wholesale Club membership discount even though BJ's had nothing to do with our transaction. We explained that we were not comfortable making a decision on such a big project on the day of the estimate. We explained that we needed time to absorb all the information, etc. The estimator was reluctant to leave even when I stated I had dinner in the oven and we were tired. He seemed to take it personally that we wouldn't sign on the spot and became a bit belligerent, even arguing with us about our stated reasons (It's not because you're tired, it's because of the price. The sooner you get this work done the sooner you can move on to other things. You know you need to have the work done.") We never did get a "written estimate" with any itemization or description of the work to be performed. When we asked for his scrawled itemization, he declined. The only thing he left with us was his business card with the $34,000 figure written on it. It was a very uncomfortable situation. It's too bad, because if their products are as good as they claim, we would probably have eventually hired them after having some time to mull it over, despite the higher price (quality doesn't come cheap, we are well aware). But, then again, if their products are as good as they say, they shouldn't need to rely on high-pressure gimmicks or on door-to-door solicitation. In the end, we decided we simply cannot work with a company that would treat customers this way.
Description of Work: Power had a young woman going door-to-door in the rain stating they were "doing work in the area and offering free, no pressure written estimates" for roofing, window and door services. Since we needed some work, we booked an appointment. I was a little unnerved by the fact they were intent on getting my mobile phone number (to confirm the appointment) and then had me sign a form stating I consented to receive calls about their "products and services" even if I was on the Do Not Call registry. Despite my qualms, I booked the appointment.

Several years ago we had all of our windows replaced with double pain except the kitchen bay window. At the time we were told the entire structure including framing and attic anchors would have to be torn out and replaced. They estimated the cost at about $5,000. We knew Power was expensive but had a relative working for the company and we received a 5% friends and family discount. We told the salesman who came that he didn't need to do a presentation or sell us, that we were ready to buy. In spite of this he spent nearly 2 hours going over the company, why their windows are the best, etc. When he finally got around to quoting a price it was nearly $6,000 to remove the entire frame...same premise as earlier estimate. We decided to wait given the expense. Salesman called back a day later saying he'd talked to one of their Project Managers who told him they could just replace the windows without a new frame. The Salesman called us and apologized for not knowing about that option (I believe him) and offered us a lower price just to replace the windows. The installation team was great. Two guys were in an out in a few hours. Their installation was professional and they cleaned up after themselves. It's a good window and it helps keep the kitchen several degrees warmer than it was. So the positive - good product, effective and professional installation. The negative - given a sales pitch when we told the Salesman to skip that, give us a price and we'd sign and the price. Power has a huge overhead (they have some interesting employee perks, for example) which drives prices much, much higher than the competition.

They showed up at my door and wanted to do a job for me. I gave them my contact number and have regretted it ever since. They call you repeatedly. Please do no give them your contact info. I will never use this company for anything. Please do not use their services for anything. They are very unprofressional!
Description of Work: This is a very unprofessional company that harasses you as much as they can. I have recieved repeated calls from this company eventhough I have told them I am not interested in their services. They refuse to hang up the phone. Next time I will hang up on them. Stay away from this company. DO NOT use them for windows. They charge outrageous prices. I used window universe for replacing my windows. For 15 energy star double hung windows with a grid design and screens installed I paid $5600. You get a lifetime warranty on the windows. Window universe has been rated a best buy by consumer digest. Power remodeling will charge you double for that price. Please do not give this company your contact number or you will regret it!!

The installation was went extremely well. The two man crew were very professional, caring, considerate, and did a wonderful job. Because of our most recent experience with them, we've decided to have them replace our kitchen bay wooden windows.

I found out about this company when they had marketing people walking through our neighborhood. The only thing I didn't like about the scheduling of the estimate was that they insisted that my boyfriend and I both be there, even though I am the homeowner and was the decision maker. I originally started with getting estimates on windows and siding. But on the exterior walk through some concerns were raised about our roof condition, and it was decided that our roof was a priority. They did a great job of explaining their product and the benefits of using their company. However, their high pressure sales pitch almost made me go with another company. The take it on the spot or the price is a couple thousand more isn’t the way you should want to get customers. We still chose to go with the company and the roof turned out beautiful! The only problem with install was that there was more debris (nails and rubber bands) left behind than anticipated. I personally saw the crew walking around and cleaning, however due to the snow in our backyard some items were overlooked, which I just picked up myself. I would gladly recommend this company to others and will consider using them for other projects in the future.

They called back a month later with a better price in exchange for flexible start date. Everything was signed and they were doing final measurements. Their rep made an error and one of the windows was $76 more expensive. They wanted more money and I politely reminded them I had a signed contract. They would not honor that price so I opted to not have the work done. Of course they realized later that was a big mistake and called me to reschedule the install. I refused and told them it was unprofessional not to have honored the original contact and it made me question ther integrity. I am sure I could have gotten a lawyer and forced the issue, but I was no longer interested in dealing with their company!!

The $76 price increase was the result of one window being improperly measured at the time of sale (window prices are based on measurements, as each is custom made), and one existing window needing more work than was originally anticipated to successfully facilitate it's removal and the installation of our new window. In the interests of best serving our customers, we do everything within our power to absorb any added costs that we can. In your case, you were provided with a price that was so low that these seemingly small changes did in fact require us to slightly increase the price of your project. I understand and appreciate your frustration, but, ultimately, you were offered a price that was based on work that we later determined to be more comprehensive than originally anticipated. Regarding your contract, page two, paragraph four states that "In the event that Contractor determines that this Agreement cannot be performed as intended by the parties due, for example, to incorrect pricing, unforeseen structural defects, or pre-existing conditions to Buyer's property, Contractor may cancel this Agreement within forty-five (45) days of its execution, notify Buyer(s) of such cancellation in writing and return all monies paid by Buyer(s).". While we apologize for the inconvenience, we maintain that we operated in good faith while working to provide you with the best products and services. The entire job was completed in one day, as advertised, and the team did a very good job. Our windows look spectacular compared to the old ones, both inside, and out. In terms of quality, I think the windows are top-notch; they open and close easily, are much more energy efficient than the old windows, they're easy to clean, and we've noticed a significant decrease in 'road noise' since they've been installed. My only complaint (and it's pretty minor) is their financing through Wells Fargo -- it does not offer an interest-free period (like 1 year, 2 years, etc.), so as soon as you get the bill, you're paying interest. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with the whole process.
Description of Work: We replaced all of our windows -- 13 of them, to include two 'half-circle' windows. We also had two windows "built-out" to create a more consistent look (and bring in more light), and we installed a garden window in the kitchen.

Beware of this company. A sales rep stopped by our house saying they were doing a roofing job in our neighborhood and wanted to see if we wanted an estimate. I was at work so my wife said to come back at 7:30. However, she made it very clear to him that we did not want a long sales pitch. He said it would only take about 10-15 minutes. The salesman showed up at 7:30, but then started into a big presentation how their roofs are different from others on the market, etc. That took about an hour. He then went outside to look at our roof and proceeds to tell us it is in poor condition and needs to be replaced soon. Needless to say, he did this exam in the dark with a flashlight. Then the he begins to start discussing price. Well, he already had the square footage of our roof based on satellite stuff. But he is only now beginning to figure out the estimate of what the roof will cost. Meanwhile, I had already figured it out in my head based on the size of the roof he was using and the general price of what it cost per square foot he had already said in his presentation. Well, as another reviewer said, they come back with two prices, the first is one that is good for a year (about $25,000) and the second was a special price (about $20,000) if we agreed to the work right then. When I said no, he then said he could lower the price if we let them use pictures of our house because they hadn't done any work in our neighborhood. What, didn't he stop by our house earlier in the day saying they were doing work in our neighborhood? I again said no. He then proceeded to do some more calculations and low and behold he would get it down to about $17,000 if we agreed to the work right then. By this time it was about 9:15 (so much for a 10-15 minute visit) for an estimate he could have done before walking into our house. So again, don't fall for their scheme.

I apologize for the miscommunication, but something was clearly lost in translation when you spoke with our remodeling consultant. We have done many projects in your neighborhood, ranging from Norham Drive to St. Giles Way and a half dozen projects near Hayfield Elementary. However, just because we've done work in the neighborhood, doesn't mean we have a photo library of those projects. In relation to the pricing structure, the reason we're able to offer such a steep discount on the first visit is simply a matter of efficiencies. We visit hundreds of customers everyday. By offering our customers a steep discount for an agreement that evening, we effectively eliminate costs from the potential project. We encountered this company during a recent visit to BJs when we were stopped by one of their in store sales reps who wanted to have someone come out to our home for a free estimate. They explained to us in the store it would be a quick estimate that would be good for one year. Once we agreed, we were then put on the phone with a scheduler for an appointment the next day. The sales rep that arrived the next day was very professional, knowledgeable, and detailed in his presentation. They score high marks in this area because there are not enough companies out here who are that detailed in their presentation, he went over all their services, policies, and products with a fine tooth comb. He had a great personality and awesome sense of humor, arrived to his appointment on time, and started his presentation promptly. The downside to this visit is it took entirely TOO LONG from 7pm to nearly midnight. He also became very pushy when we stated we would not be able to start the work right now. He pushed every option there was and lowered the price significantly only if we were willing to sign off on the work that same day. I felt at some point he forgot/ignored the fact that we had a very agitated 2 month old because it was past her bed time, we mentioned that we had not eaten since we've been home from work, my husband had course work he needed to submit by midnight (this was indicated several times), we began to doze off in front of his face, and the fact we all had to get up at 6 am the next morning. We are very much aware our windows are in need of being replaced. We explained REPEATEDLY that we are unable to start the work at this time because: we recently purchased our home in December, our baby was born the same month, we just had the roof and carpet replaced. For the sake of not over extending ourselves we would first need to pay off the projects that we recently had completed before financing another one. We even further indicated that according to what I call our "Vigorous Project Pay off plan" we would be able to start the project within six months. Even though the sales rep stated he "understood" his persistence indicated that he really didn't understand or perhaps he didn't care. He even went as far as using our daughter in his sales pitch as a last resort. I could tell at the end of the night he was a bit annoyed because we were not able to make a deal at this time. I consider myself a very reasonable person and I totally get the fact that the guy drove a long way to our home and spent almost five hours here, but at the end of the day we have to make the best decision for our family. With a new baby, a new house, and several projects that we've already financed, it would be a VERY WISE decision to NOT LIVE BEYOND OUR MEANS and over extend ourselves. I think it his aggressiveness to have us agree to something that day was a bit inconsiderate because he continued with his aggressive sales pitch despite what he was told. PHRG part of customer service is actually LISTENING to your customers. Because I can see he was a great guy, you are a company that appears to stand behind your product, overall the reviews I've read were mostly good, and that you have a good quality product, I am still considering you as an option to have my windows replaced in SIX MONTHS as I told the sales rep. Overall everything was good, but please retrain your employees to not be so pushy as we find this is a highly annoying tactic, its a turn off when sales reps just can't take NO for an answer, and it could cost you future business with anyone else who is not so understanding.
Description of Work: Came to our home to give an estimate on replacement on all the windows in the house.

replacement windows, egress windows

On our way home, I received the confirmation call for the estimate appointment. When the caller mentioned that he wanted to know how many windows we had in all, I told him--again--four. I also reiterated that we wanted one to become an egress window, which required a bigger hole to be cut in the wall of our basement. At this point, despite the fact that the entire subject of our conversation with Ricky revolved around this very act, the caller stated that the company does not do that kind of work. I was pretty angry at the waste of my time, and when I mentioned this, he offered to go speak to his manager to see if the company did in fact do egress windows. After waiting on hold, I finally disconnected. An hour later, at home (20 minutes before the estimate would have happened), a different caller called to say that he was on his way. This time, my husband took the call, and again mentioned that we wanted three basement windows replaced and the fourth to become a larger egress window. Again, massive confusion on the other end of the line. The caller kept insisting that if we weren't planning on replacing every window in the house, the company wouldn't take our work, and that the only way the original estimate appointment would have been placed was if we had told the company we were replacing all windows in the house. Since the rest of our windows are less than ten years old and function well, we have never had an interest in replacing them, and certainly said no such thing at the show. In fact, when Ricky repeatedly pressed us to count all of our windows so that they could just measure them "all at once" due to being "an efficiency company," we said no. After wasting about 30 minutes listening to Ricky talk at the show, and then two separate, lengthy, confusing phone calls about the exact same thing, we canceled the estimate. We have four others lined up now for this week with different companies. Like other reviewers, I found Ricky and the others I spoke with from the company to be disrespectful, pushy, and--apparently--unable to actuall hear what my husband and I were repeating throughout. After such an unprofessional waste of my time, you can bet I will not use this company in the future. I will also share this info with the group that puts on the Home and Garden Show that I attended as well as with our three city listservs. And re: the company response below: From the beginning I stated repeatedly that we ONLY wanted three basement windows replaced. From the beginning we were assured that the company would do this. At no point was any other work discussed. False advertising and a complete waste of my already scarce time.
Description of Work: We attended a Home and Garden show last weekend in order to explore options for redoing our basement windows and creating an egress window in one. We were flagged down by a salesman named Ricky, who then--after hearing a thorough description from us of our four existing basement windows and what we wanted done to each one, which included enlarging one window to make it an egress window up to current code--lined up an estimate for us for that afternoon.

Replacing, remodeling, construction are all in the same vein - the key to being great in this industry is to be a master of a specific trade, not a generalist. We don't cut any corners, or save any expense when it comes to what we do. We'd love to do every project a customer can dream up. However, at times, a project involves something that isn't within our core competencies and it takes a bigger company to turn this business away than to take on a project with limited expertise. I think our customers, by and large, respect us for that. It may be frustrating to discover this while on the phone, but it is far more frustrating to not be happy with the end result. We're sorry you had a negative experience, but please know we are intensely committed to satisfying every need of the customer in all facets - product education, product quality, installation and customer service. This is perhaps best exemplified in Angie's List recently awarding Power their Super Service Award - an honor only given to those companies who have received consistently excellent customer reviews as a result of outstanding service. Of all companies represented on Angie's List, only the top 5% are considered for this award. I mention this because it's important that, while your individual experience may have been frustrating, as a company we hold ourselves to the highest standards of service. If you'd like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact me directly. Ray Lodato Customer Advocacy Manager Power Home Remodeling Group 610.874.5000 x2260

Caveat: Power did not do any work for us, so this is not a review at all of the actual work they perform. Our first contact with Power was when they were coming door-to-door offering free estimates as to roof and window repair/renovation. I was not at home so the salesperson spoke with my wife. My wife told him that we are currently in the middle of a costly basement renovation, so we were not interested in replacing our roof or windows any time soon. He said that was fine, but that it couldn't hurt to get an estimate just so we would have an idea if we did decide to do the work at some point. She agreed, and made an appointment to come back in the evening a few days later. I ended up having to work late that night, but my wife was home. When the salesman showed up, my wife was home, and the salesman asked where I was. She explained that I had to work late, and he got frustrated, saying that he could not give an estimate without me being home. When my wife said that this did not make any sense, since we were just getting an estimate, he said it was company policy, and that he would have to make an appointment to come back at a more convenient time. My wife was pretty noncommittal, since this was getting to be more trouble than it was worth for something we weren't interested in doing any time soon. He called her no fewer than 6 or 7 times the next few days to try to set up another appointment. We made an appointment for a Saturday morning. The salesman showed up and gave us a very long, thorough presentation on the services and work that Power provides. Then he looked around the exterior and interior of the house, and told us we really needed to repair our roof and windows. He then sat us down and went over pricing with us. This is where things took a turn for the worse: 1. For starters, he gave us two prices -- a "normal" price of around $22,000 for all the work, or a little over $18,000 if we said yes on the spot. I hate this kind of pressure pricing that is designed to force you to make a major decision immediately, instead of having a chance to think about whether this is something you really need/want to do. 2. He also heavily pushed their financing option. So, with the $18,000 option, he said it would cost less than $300 per month. I asked him what the interest rate was, and he said, "around" 9%. So I asked him what the term of that financing loan would be, and he said "about 4 or 5 years." Now. I'm no math genius, but just doing some quick calculations in my head, this could not be true. If we paid $300 a month every month for 5 years, that would just get to $18,000 if the loan was interest free, which obviously this wasn't. So clearly he was giving incorrect information, or leaving important information out (e.g., maybe there was some kind of initial down payment that he was not telling us about). Anyway, this left a very bad taste in my mouth, as (a) if a salesman is pushing a financing option, he absolutely should be able to discuss the technical details of that option; and (b) he was clearly either omitting or misstating material information with regard to the financing. 3. The entire presentation/estimate/pitch lasted almost 3 hours, and even at that, we had to cut it short pretty forcefully. Power's salesperson, or at least our particular salesperson, clearly come from the "Don't take no from an answer" school of pressure selling. Even though we had been very clear with this person from the outset that we were in the middle of another major project and were in no financial situation to start another one, he got very, very, VERY pushy. Basically, we had to tell him multiple times that we were not interested and specifically had to ask him to leave our house. It was very uncomfortable, and I just do not being treated like that, especially in my own home. In the end, I asked him to email me the information from the estimate (because we are going to need to replace our roof and probably our windows at some point. He never sent that email, which even further tells me that this company's entire approach is based on pressure sales. All in all, it was just kind of an unpleasant experience that took up an entire Saturday morning. Again, we did not have Power do any work for us, so I am not speaking at all to the quality of their work. But this kind of high-pressure sales tactics really turn me off, and from reviewing their other Angie's List reviews, this does seem to be Power's MO. But when we do decide to get a new roof, I think we'll go with someone who is a little more upfront and treats us with a little more respect as consumers and homeowners.

First let me say that I was blown away by Power Home Remodeling Group. I have lived in this house for over thirty years and I have had over $220,000 in improvements done to my home during that time. I hate to say it but several of those improvements came at considerable cost and aggravation. I always dread having to contract with another company because I know that I am going to likely be in a fight over something. My worries were very quickly dissipating even before I signed the contract. When Evan arrived at my home to review my options, he took the time to explain to me how Power Home Remodeling Group's roofing process is different from many other companies. He had sample materials and demonstrated why my new roof won't turn moldy like my last roof did. The old roof had mold on it after just 10 years of wear and several planks were rotten due to moisture buildup under the shingles. Evan took the time to go up into my attic with me and he pointed out several planks that were soft from moisture. I felt them and the wood moved. I had a big problem brewing. So I knew right away that he was right. I did need to do something and soon. So I ended up choosing the Timberline Lifetime High Definition Shingle roof. It comes with a 50 year warranty that is fully transferable to the new owners should I sell my home in the future. My new roof breaths unlike traditional roofing technologies. There will never again be any moisture rot under the shingles and no more mold. In fact, it's guaranteed. If the roof fails Power Home Remodeling Group will made the repairs at no charge for the 50 year guarantee period. The entire project was expertly managed from the initial contact until final completion. The telephone and on-site follow-up was expert and professional. In fact, everybody, Evan Farragher, my Remodeling Consultant, Dave Horne, the Project Manager, the workers and technicians, all did a superb job. The vast majority of the work was completed in one day. They had to return the next day to cap off the roof which took about 2 hours. The cleanup was very thorough. I have not found any shingle pieces or nails around my house. They used tarps to protect the perimeter of the house on all four sides which protected my shrubbery. They also use a magnet tool to find any errant roofing nails. Unlike most roofing companies, they have an electric elevator that rides the shingles up to the roof level so that these 75 lb squares don't have to be carried up manually saving an incredible amount of worker time and effort. They had about six workers on my roof and it was stripped completely in less than three hours. They had the new roof on in another six hours minus the cap. Blistering time if you ask my opinion. Everything is plum and lines are all square. It was a beautiful job. I liked it so well that I had them come back to put new gutters, down spouts, and leaf guards on the house. I can't even see the leaf guard. I had to call them to confirm that it was installed. That is just the look I was hoping for. The gutters are top quality galvanized steel and it makes my sixty-three year old home look brand new. I couldn't be happier. Thanks Power Home Remodeling Group for taking the stress out of my life and doing a phenomenal job for me. It was greatly appreciated. Oh, did I forget to say that I recommend these guys? LOL
Description of Work: I had a Timberline Lifetime High Definition Shingle Roof installed on my house including a 13 x 25 addition. It included WeatherWatch Mineral-Surfaced Leak Barrier, Cobra Exhaust Vent (for Roof Ridge), Timbertex Premium Ridge Cap Shingles, and ShingleMatch Roof Accessory Paint which enhanced the beauty of the roof by matching the color of the pipes and other items pertruding items to the new roof color. My new roof is dazzling and impressive.

This was an extremely involved process, and in the end we didn't even use their services. 1. A solicitor came to the door and asked my husband (I wasn't home yet) if he wanted a free estimate on the roof. Since this is something we were going to do anyway, he figured sure, why not. The solicitor made it seem like it wouldn't take that long and that there would be no sales pitch. Which brings me to the next step. 2. Jeff arrived right on cue two hours later and sat down at our dining room table to tell us about the company. It was WAY too much information and I really just wanted to know the price. Jeff kept saying, "sure, I could just tell you the price, but that wouldn't mean anything to you" since we didn't know anything about the materials -- that was fair, but by the end I didn't much care about that. Also, I can do my own research. To his credit, he did give us a lot of useful information that helped us make an informed decision a day later (I'll get to that). But it was also clear he was following a script. 3. The prices kept changing. It was disorienting. First he gave us the standard contract price then added a 5% discount randomly (I don't remember what for), then gave us a "discount" for giving them permission to put our house on their website, then gave us even more of a discount if we bought from them today ("with no money down"). We didn't have time to do comparison shopping, but we had estimated about $3k less when looking at "more inferior roofs" so by the end we were more or less sold (but really just tired of dealing with this). 4. FINALLY (about three hours later) we agreed to sign a contract for no money down ONLY AFTER being told we could cancel within three days for no fee. Essentially we thought, "Fine, we can find a better company in the morning." I was still a little skeptical, especially after giving Jeff our incomes & social security numbers, etc. But the fact that the company has resolved all its complaints (a fact stated MANY times) made me feel less concerned about identity theft. 5. By the time Jeff left, it was 11pm. We went straight to bed. It wasn't until the next morning, when I could think properly, that I realized a lot of his sales tactics were a bit sketchy -- docking the price almost $2k just for taking a picture of our house for their website? Odd. Clearly they were making a huge profit off us. Also, Jeff had told us he did not work for commission, which was a bold-faced lie. Why else would he stay at our house for 4 hours that late at night, then drive back into Columbia? 6. My husband did research throughout the day and called me around 2 to tell me he had another roofing contractor come over to our house, and he could do the roof using the same materials as Power, for almost $3 less, with no gimmicky "discounts." Sold. He called Power then and there to cancel our contract. I just hope they don't continue to hound us. TL;DR: Don't do business with Power because they use hard sell tactics and you can find the exact same product elsewhere for a better price, and on your own terms.

The process of working with Power HRG was very easy. I had an evening appointment scheduled at 7:00PM in the evening so I would not have to miss work and the team was there on time. After I decided to purchase the roof, I was immeidately scheduled for a follow-up inspection. Again, the inspection team was on time (that process look less than 30 minutes once they further assessed the work that needed to be completed). At that time, my install appointment was also scheduled for the following Monday. The day before the scheduled install, I was contacted mid-day and informed that due to the weather (it was suppose to snow several inches..which it did) that the team would like to reschedule the appointment (that was not an issue for me and I appreciated them calling me on a Sunday versus waiting until Monday morning). The install was schedule for 3 days later. The day of install, the team arrived promptly at 9AM and the foreman introduced himself and told me a bit about what they were going to do that day (they had to remove 1000's of pounds of slate before they could start on new roof). The team finished the roof in 1 day and clean everything up (nails, dust from the slate, everything). They sent a QA manager (Adam) out to the site to meet with me late that afternoon to ensure everything was going as planned, he set up my warranty, and make sure that I was satisifed with the working being completed. The team left around 6PM and I had a complete new roof.
Description of Work: The Power Home Remodeling Group installed both a new roof and gutter guards on my 1939 home. I had a 75 year old slate roof that was getting too difficult to repair. The new roof looks awesome and the team completed the work in just one day (which was great, too). I would recommend Power HRG anyone looking for a new roof in the area. I read some of the comments from other folks here on Angie's List that rated the price as a "B". I think the price I received was very competitve and there weren't any hidden charges. I would rather pay a bit more and know what I am paying than pay a little less and get hit with additional charges when the work is completed.

The sales rep came to do the estimate was very professional and thorough. After a HOUR LONG presentation the rep gave me a quote that was a bit high (28k for 2,600 sf roof). I explained that I liked the product but the price was too high. End of story. Three weeks later we get a call that we qualified for a discounted estimate and schedule another rep to do an in home estimate, the person on the phone stated this estimate would take 5-10 minutes. Rep shows up 45 minutes late, proceeds to do the same presentation of the last guy even though we tell him we know the product. After we finally get the quote the discount is significant the price now 18k but still too high. I tell the rep thanks but the cost is too high, this is when things got weird. The reps demeanor changed from nice to defensive and he became argumentative to my refusal. This is when I told him it was time to go. In all this companies sale techniques are too aggressive and their prices are very high.

This has been a nightmare, solely due to PowerHRG. Salesman wouldn't take no for an answer, which is fine, he's a salesman. However, he knowingly made promises to get me to sign which PHRG couldn't keep at a later date. I agreed to pay substantially more $ than other quotes b/c they assured me their product and services were better. I can't speak to the quality of their product (I'm not in the insulation trade), but I do know their service was horrible. Salesman promised me (and charged me accordingly) that they could insulate my entire attic; contractor's who were assigned to do the work later told me there was no way and the salesman was off his rocker. Salesman told me I would be getting batt insulation and foam-board in addition to the 'blow-in' stuff; contractor had no record of that and refused to do it. I had to argue quite a bit with PHR and they sent the contractor back later to do it. The PHR rep was accommodating and trying to make the best of the situation, problem was the salesman agreeing to things they couldn't do from the get-go. What angers me the most is losing out on rebate money. I live in Maryland and our power company (Pepco) offers up to $2000 in rebates for insulating home. Apparently PHR is supposed to file the paperwork for this, however turns out (even though they claim to be a huge company working all over the east coast) they aren't qualified to do the work for the rebate and thus I will not be getting any money back. $2000 is quite a chunk of change to lose out on at the last minute. I mentioned multiple times to the rep that getting the rebates were VERY important to me, however he knowingly didn't tell me PHRG wasn't qualified b/c obviously I'd immediately say no and go with another company which was. So in summary, I paid more, got less work done and don't even get the rebates I had counted on from the beginning. Couldn't think of a worse experience...
