I highly recommend him. It was an excellent experience. And if you need items repaired, I think Karl will do an excellent job.
Description of Work: Karl (Mr. FixIt) is a delight to work with. He did a variety of items in our home. The most important thing he did was to get a birds nest out of our attic. He also nailed down some wood siding. We also talked to him about a variety of other things that were wrong with the house that could be potentially fixed in the future. He also fixed my daughter's desk drawer that was not working. He also fixed a knob on her closet door. He fixed a broken corner cabinet in the kitchen. He also fixed, much to our delight, a wobbly kitchen table that we had been living with for over 2 years. This was on his first visit. On his second visit, he installed a variety of bathroom hardware in our master bath. He also hung a heavy mirror in one of our bedrooms. He installed 2 new doorknobs and he removed a non working telephone plug. Finally, he repaired a bathroom door that was not closing properly. I highly recommend Karl to do any repair job in your home. He is courteous, prompt and efficient.

We have had good experiences every time. He is honest, friendly, punctual, very professional, and does a good job. He has been particularly helpful when we were in a bind - needing help on a weekend in bad weather, for example.
Description of Work: We have used Mr. Fixit multiple times, from paining interior rooms, to managing the remodeling of a bathroom, and an emergency insulation job insulating on a VERY cold weekend after the pipes from our heating system burst. I have recommended him very highly to several neighbors, all of who have had good experiences.

Great Experience again with Mr. Fix-It. Made sure I had everything needed (new faucet, etc) in our initial phone conversation BEFORE he came and advised me to make a list of jobs; called again before he came; arrived on time; explained jobs, and completed all jobs as promised. Worked pretty efficiently too. Explained needs for future repairs andf gave me a clear receipt. I will definitely call him again.

This member asked me to stop by at my convenience (no appointment was made) to give an estimate on a very minor outside repair during the winter. There were several periods of really bad weather and I had injured myself, so I was unable to give him an estimate. I let him know this and apologized. Recently, I gave him a very detailed estimate to completely repair the rotten frame around his front door (a very complex job), and I have not heard from him since then.

Karl was punctual, professional, competent, and very pleasant. He repaired holes in the ceiling left after a plumbing job. He completed the repair in two visits. In addition, he noticed that my garbage disposal had stopped working and fixed it in a jiffy after he washed his tools. He worked efficiently and his hourly rate is competitive. He has been honest about what he can do, and has recommended other contractors for what he cannot do.

We contacted and received several estimates to fix up our house for sale. We chose Mr. Kosok to do the work, based on his previous high ratings, his reasonable-seeming estimate (though it was higher than the other estimates, it was more realistic), and his genial demeanor. Unfortunately, this proved to be an unwise choice. He started out well, working quickly and accomplishing a good deal of work at a fairly high level of quality. After a few days, though, he and his assistant started showing up less and less often. There were at least four weekdays (in the 3+ weeks it took to do the project) where no one was working at the house at all. The only way to get him to show up for the last three days needed to complete the project was to demand that he do so. He left a disastrous mess in the house. He washed paintbrushes in our kitchen sink without cleaning up afterward, leaving a mess of dried paint. There were several spots where paint was splashed on the carpet, floors, and cabinets. Without prior permission, he used our vacuum cleaner to clean up paint chips and spacke dust. We needed to reschedule a carpet cleaning because of the mess left by his work, even after I had warned him that we were having it done. We also needed to spend many hours cleaning up after him to make the house ready to be photographed by our realtor. He generally took far longer than would be reasonably expected to accomplish some tasks, such as touching up chipped spots on the trim and door frames. Given his rather high hourly rate ($75 an hour for his time), this cost us a great deal of money. He also seemed to have problems identifying problem spots; he needed to be told at least four seperate times after he had said that the trim was finished that there were many obvious spots that needed touching up. He had tried to encourage us to simply strip and repaint all of the trim in the house, at a very great additional expense, and seemed miffed that we were unwilling to spend the extra money. He brought in a tile guy ("Jerry") do to the tile floors, who did very shoddy work. The edges and corners of the tiles were cut crudely, grout was left splashed in a number of places, and the excess grout was simply dumped off the back porch into our garden. He also took more than 3 days to finish a job that should have taken no more than two. Communcation and professionalism were a problem throughout. Mr. Kosok does not use a smartphone or the like, so emails to him are only answered in the evenings. On at least two occasions, he failed to show up on days when he said he would be working. His written estimate was prepared using a ballpoint pen and sheets of notebook paper, and all arrangements and agreements were handled verbally. Partly this is my fault for letting him get away with it, but in the future, I will be insisting on the kind of careful documentation that Mr. Kosok does not generally provide. The points working in his favor are that he is pleasant (although long-winded) and appears to be honest. He is capable (although not consistently) of doing nice work, such as the excellent job he did on several wall patches. Overall, though, I cannot recommend him. He was too messy, too inconsistent, too unreliable, and far, far too slow.

Response from MR. FIXIT HOME REPAIR
After I provided a detailed written estimate, the customer added many additional tasks including: scraping, priming and painting the front gutter and gutter boards; repairing several large areas on walls and ceilings that needed to be scraped, re-plastered, primed and painted; repairing, priming and painting the front and rear door frames; and painting the inside of all the kitchen cabinets. These tasks increased the total amount of work by 20% – 25%. My final bill, which included all the new tasks, was only 17% over my original estimate. The customer wanted to complete the work as inexpensively as possible. Even though the trim in the house really needed to be repainted (not stripped), he did not want to spend the money to do this. Initially I told him it would take a lot of time to touch up all the trim. At the end he was upset and could not understand why it took more than 3 hours to touch up all the trim throughout the 3-bedroom house! The job also involved scraping, priming and painting outside, which from the beginning, I explained would necessitate warm and dry weather. In fact, cold, wet weather did delay completion of the work. (One beautiful Sunday, the customer was very upset I was not working, even though I was attending an out of town wedding.) The customer and his family moved out just before I started working, and the house was a complete mess. I told him I would clean up after we finished our work. He wanted the kitchen floor re-tiled, but wanted to do it inexpensively. The tile guy I used was inexpensive, did a fairly good job, but did leave a mess, which I completely cleaned up. The customer did not tell me the carpet cleaners were coming until the day before and there was no way to finish the additional work in time. I stayed very late one night to clean up so the carpet cleaners could come. Unfortunately, my vacuum broke and I had to use the customer's old vacuum. There was no laundry sink in the house, so I had to use the kitchen sink to clean my brushes. When I was finished, I thoroughly cleaned it. During the work, I called the customer regularly and left him messages on his voice mail. Although I encouraged him to call my cell phone during the day, he often sent me email messages I did not see until the evening. I was working on various jobs at the same time as his, and never promised to work on his job every day. However, I made every effort to complete the work on his house as quickly as possible. In our final conversation, when I was trying to discuss and address the customer's concerns, he just hung up on me. I am always eager to work with customers to understand their needs and come up with mutually agreeable solutions to address any problems and concerns.

It was wonderful. He was really good. I remember that it was $150 because that's all I had, so he allowed me to work along with him so we could get the job done within the two hours. He showed up on time. He gave me a very reasonable and accurate estimate. He did what I asked him to do. He was familiar with the IKEA furniture, he didn't have to train himself on that so clearly he had done that before. He was very, very pleasant to work with.

Karl is a very nice gentlemen, but our experience was similar to working with a handy relative or friend. He fumbled his way though the job, read the various instruction sheets, and figured it out as you would if you were to do the job yourself. This is fine for $30/hr, but at $75/hr I'd expect a bit more proficiency. Learning on the job is not something I'd like to subsidize. Other issues: * Karl had to leave for a prior commitment BEFORE the job was properly finished -- the sink was *leaking* - leaving my wife with a bucket under the sink and the number of a plumber! Yes, he left us he's plumber friend's number to finish the job. Karl didn't even offer to call his plumber for us, and he certainly did not offer to pay for his clean-up services. * The job took 50-100% longer than originally quoted. * Karl did not bring his own caulk gun and had to borrow one from some other workmen at the house that day, much to their annoyance * Karl could not/would not lift the sink, leaving it to my wife to scramble to solicit help from a tenant of ours. In summary, for the total we paid we could have hired a profession plumber and paid a *fraction* of the cost.

It took a long time to carefully remove the old sink so as not to damage the beautiful old tile counter since too much caulk had been originally used. I explained this to the member's wife. (I have removed many sinks, and this was the most difficult one.) The old sink was very heavy and having had back surgery, I should not lift anything over 50 lbs. I explained this to the customer and she was very understanding. Each new faucet and garbage disposal has slightly different instructions enclosed. If they are not carefully followed, the units can be damaged, not work properly, and/or void the warranty. Unfortunately, I had to park my van far away from the house. so I borrowed a caulk gun to save time and avoid an extra trip to my van. The workman was not using his caulk gun, and was happy and not annoyed to lend it to me. The new garbage disposal was much larger and fatter than the old one. As a result, the existing drain pipe no longer fit the new disposal. I connected the new disposal as well as I could, so it dripped only slightly, and explained the problem to the member's wife. I completely cleaned up the work area. Unfortunately, it was after 6 pm and I had a plane to catch. I recommended an excellent plumber with whom I work closely to change or fix the pipe. I gave the member's wife the number and she said she would decide what she wanted to do and might give him a call. She called him, he came the next day and quickly replaced the existing drain pipe. (He did not repeat any of the work I had done.) While I was away, I called to check on things, and the wife sent me an email saying, "I called Jerry on Friday and he came out and fixed it Saturday morning. He was great." In summary, I completed all the work requested (replacing the sink, connecting the new garbage disposal, and connecting the existing water filter), except for changing the drain pipe for which I did not have the parts needed. The work took longer than my phone estimate, because to carefully remove the old sink from the beautiful tile counter (which I did not damage or scratch at all) took a long time Also, because the new garbage disposal was much bigger than the old one, the drain pipe no longer fit and needed to be replaced by a plumber. (I am not a licensed plumber and never claimed to be.) The plumber I recommended came quickly, replaced the pipe and the member's wife was very satisfied with his work. I never met the Angie's List member, and I am sorry for any misunderstanding or inconvenience I may have caused him and his wife. I always make a point to understand a customer's needs and work to satisfy or surpass them. Sincerely, Karl Kosok, Mr. Fixit '

It went very well. I called on a weekend and he came by about 20 minutes later to scope out the work. He tells you his rates and his helpers' rates and estimates the time it'll take. After that, if you have any homework to do that will save you on costs (e.g. rather than pass on marked-up costs, he told me where to go by the wood I needed, paint and various other things). Once all the materials were assembled, he came by and knocked out the work in about 2.5 long days. There were no hitches in doing the work and he advised me on a number of potential repair/improvement projects (that wouldn't necessarily be the type of worked he'd do....such as landscaping projects).
Description of Work: I had extensive wood replacement on my porch and deck, a faucet and light installed, ceiling repairs and a good deal of exterior painting done.
