Contact and pickup was fine; we gave them a drawer from an end table so they would have the correct color to refinish the chest. TI inherited this piece and it's never received any maintenance, so the wood was in poor condition. The company did an ok job of filling the cracks, but the color is much redder than the sample we provided, dust was left in many of the carvings, and many of the carved edges have overflow of the finish material. From across the room, the chest looks fine, but up close--meh. I could have done an equivalent job myself.

The provider did an excellent job. Knowing what I sent him, I could hardly believe how beautiful the refinished desk was. He stripped the desk, repaired some damage, refinished the desk, and cleaned the brass pulls. His work is absolutely fantastic. He also picked up the desk and delivered. I had a coupon for a $199.00 credit, but even without it I would consider his work well worth the price. The one caveat that I have is the provider is a craftsman, not a businessman, hence the lower marks for punctuality and responsiveness. He does amazing work, but he does it on his own schedule. If you need something refinished or restored within a certain time frame, he is probably not the provider for you. But if you are interested in fine craftsmanship and can wait for it, I would recommend this provider very highly.
Description of Work: The provider repaired and refinished a solid maple desk.

First, I would like to say that Wilson Delgado was a delight to deal with--good-natured, patient, positive, and accommodating. He obviously takes great pride and care in his work. In this case, he didn't know what he was getting into--this was his first experience repairing a futon frame (an old one at that). The job required disassembling the frame in order to transport the base to his shop. This was not an easy repair. The main supporting cross piece had cracked, and it required creative thinking to devise a solution for repairing and reinforcing the broken piece. He spent a lot of time on this job--including spending extra time to reinforce the other end, which he discovered was cracked as well. He also went to the trouble to try to locate a replacement washer. He and his assistant delivered the frame (for consultation, pick-up, and delivery, he accommodated our work schedules and came in the evening). It took all four of us to figure out how to reassemble the frame, a rather frustrating experience, but Wilson and his assistant both remained calm and we did it! I should add that this was an Angie's List Big Deal ($99 for $200 worth of furniture restoration, repair, or refinishing), which turned out to be well worth the price--certainly a better deal for us than it was for Wilson. But despite the fact that it took him more time than expected, he did not ask for more money, which was very generous. We paid an additional $60 for pick-up and delivery of the futon frame.

I had to chase the provider for service, for a date for return of my bench and for overall responses. They originally told me the bench would be repaired and returned within ten days. It took well in excess of a month. They sent me an email stating my antique bench had insect infestation and that it would require $120 more in treatment. After I told them I wouldn't pay additional money to treat the bench, I didn't hear from them. Weeks later they told me the email was sent erroneously ( a secretaries mistake) and my bench was fine. They apologized for the mistake, but my overall experience was VERY unprofessional.

The repair work has held up to normal wear and tear. Very satisfied with work performed including upholstery of chair bottoms. I did think the repair work of approximately $95 per chair was a little high, but didn't have anything to compare it to.

He did a very thorough job and I was very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: I have a hutch and the top part has been damaged and they repaired that. They repaired a backing of a chair. I had a mirror with a frame and the mirror shattered but he repaired the frame so I could put in a new mirror. The slats that held the cushions up on my love seat up he put a new support bottom on it.

I have mixed reviews about it. I had difficulty contacting the owner on multiple occasions. Originally, we had a difference of opinion on the cost. He wasn't going to accept the voucher that I purchased through Angie's List. In fact, my wife ended up talking with him about it. She worked out a deal with him, which, had I been home, it wouldn't have been a deal because, basically, he accepted the voucher plus what he wanted over the voucher. That being said, I thought the quality of his work was excellent. He was a very nice guy and did very, very good work. But, we clearly had differences regarding the voucher from Angie's List and what I ended up paying him to complete the work. He was very difficult to reach. I think his son had been in a motorcycle accident. So, I was sympathetic to what he was going through. It took a while for us to actually get together. In fact, he picked the bed up for repair, to take it back to his workshop and was supposed to have it back by a certain time. I'm certain that he did not return it on time because I had out-of-town guests coming and I had to get a hotel room because there was no bed available. It might have been the correct price. But, it wasn't what we had agreed upon. It certainly wasn't what the offer from Angie's List was. After I purchased it, he said, "Well, that doesn't fall into the arena of that voucher." But I read the voucher very clearly and we discussed what the work was and it clearly was within the scope of the Angie's List advertisement. Professionalism as a craftsman was an 'A.' Professionalism in terms of getting the work done was not as good.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from them.

The restoration on the two wooden chairs was excellent. I could not find any trace of the previous badly done repair. Mr. Delgado managed to undo the splintered condition. All scuffs were removed, the supports were fixed and the finish was matched perfectly. The upholstery job on the cushions was less satisfactory. Apparently Mr. Delgado farmed this work out to someone else who did not have such skill. The cushions were notched so that added to the difficulty of sewing a cover, but the piping was uneven, there was some puckering in the corners of the seat piece, it appeared that something like a bit of glue got on the fabric, and the zipper folds were uneven. The upholsterer did not have sufficient skill. The covers are good enough for the time being and no one will notice except me, but I will have another contractor do the cushions if they eventually need to be redone.
Description of Work: Mr. Delgado restored two wooden oriental corner chairs that were in disrepair: splintered and badly repaired arm, loose leg supports, scuffs, stained cushion covers. He also had two cushion covers made with fabric I supplied.

My Husband and I are so pleased. The mirror is a family piece that we thought was beyond repair. The carved, outer veneer of one corner of the frame looked like it had frost heaves. The vine pattern cut into the veneer and finished with gold paint just made the wood more fragile and I had put masking tape over the area to try to keep pieces from falling off. He kept every piece we had and got all the pieces off the tape. He got the awful ridges to lie flat and put everything back where it belonged. He was very careful to keep the mirror as original as possible. When we got it back today, we couldn't believe how good it looks now. The ridges are gone. there is only a tiny triangle of wood missing and the carved pattern once again matches the pattern in the other 3 corners of the piece. It went back up the hour we got it back, no-where near the humidifyer this time. The price and time frame for the work were just as advertised. I was surprised he found a way to fix it so well in the time he had the mirror.
Description of Work: He picked up, restored and returned a 1947 wooden mirror in a carved frame that had been too near a humidifyer last winter and the veneer had pulled away from the rest of the wood frame.

Wilson told us how much fabric to buy, and we obtained it by mail order after seeing it in a furniture store. He somewhat over-estimated because the roll was very wide, which left us sufficient fabric to have him also make some extra lumbar pillows. We delivered the chair to his shop to save on pickup and delivery charges but as it turned out, he delivered it at no charge, wrapped very well protected against any damage. With fabric, the total project cost about $750 and was well worth retaining a lovely family heirloom. As a result of our satisfaction with this project, we had him refinish a mahogany coffee table with the same rose motif. See separate review.

When we saw the beautifully restored finish on our Victorian chair, we decided on the spot to ask Wilson to refinish the coffee table to match it. His price seemed reasonable and he was able to get it done in his shop in about a week.

Mr. Delgado did an outstanding job and the oak table surface is now as good as--or better than--new. Mr. Delgado was courteous and professional. He visited us the day after we called, gave us the price, and, when we agree to have him do the job, he took the table away to do the work. He completed the work in the promised 2-3 week time-frame and delivered the table back to our house. We thought that Metropolitan Restoration Center did an excellent job for a reasonable price.

Mr. Delgado came to my home to estimate costs of repairing (replacing arms, reattaching seats) and re-upholstering my 6 dining room chairs, and was able to take the chairs with him that day. He returned the chairs having not only repaired the arms and seats, but also having buffed out leg scratches and dings and generally polished up all of the wood. The upholstery was well done, matching stripes/seams accurately. We were very happy with the work.

When I didn't hear from him after several weeks, I contacted Angie's List for help, and they couldn't get him to respond to their efforts to contact him either. This was way past when I could've gotten a refund, so as a retiree without a lot of extra money in my pockets, I just dropped it. This is the only Angie's List vendor that does furniture restoration work. My hubby and I used what we would have spent on the chair restoration to purchase a bench instead. I'm glad we came up with a solution, but I'm still incensed that I was treated so poorly. Very disappointed with both the contractor and Angie's List.
