I was directed to this home office operating out of their garage and told to leave my computer at the bench inside and fill out a form. No problem for me, however, since the access was not marked, I had to knock at the front door for help. I don't think they were expecting that. The barking dog didn't really scare me. I was then greeted by Mel's employee inside the garage door. I indicated that this was a business computer and, while I was not desperate, I would like to have it back ASAP. This person was very polite and helpful. I noted that the garage looked in about as much disarray as my garage and completely lacked professional appearance. The next day I called to ask what the time frame might be and to please contact me concerning the possible cost of the service. I was called and told that it would be done probably the following Monday. When I did not hear from anyone on Monday, I called and left a message of inquiry on their answering machine. (With all of my numerous calls, I always got the machine.) After a few days, I received news about the mother board being "fried" and how they were going to attempt accessing my files by removing my hard drive and hooking it up to another computer. Again I waited. Again I called. Their next response was a request to bring to them an 8-gigabite usb drive for transferring the files. I sent my husband over with the drive, wondering why they would not have this inexpensive device on hand and simply charge me for it later. Finally, two weeks after placing my computer in their hands and two or three recent unreturned phone calls, I was called and told: "Didn't you check your email? We emailed you two days ago. We tried everything to get into your hard drive, and nothing we did worked. There will be no charge, of course. You can pick up your computer any time." Today, my husband took my computer to a commercially-based repair store. The computer fan and "some other small thing" was replaced and is now in good shape. The charge was reasonable and the computer was fixed as he waited.
Description of Work: My home business computer, a PC, would start but no image would appear on the monitor. I had just purchased a new Mac and I requested of them a fix of the old computer so that I would be able to transfer files to the Mac. The next day I called them to say that I would like some idea of cost and that I did have back-up files (though not complete) and may not be willing to spend a lot of money for this fix. The best answer might be for them to access the files and place on an external device for me. Eventually, Mel's Computer Service analyzed and reported first that the mother board was "fried." Later, they reported that they tried everything but could not get into the hard drive. There was no solution to the problem.

Everything I read about her on Angie?s list was right. She was just amazing. She took the computers and fixed them better than what we hoped. She exceeded our expectations and the turn around time was very quick. It cost us very little and compared to the work she did the charge was modest. She was great.

A wonderful experience. Mel is friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and fast! Would definitely recommend her.
Description of Work: I called Melany for help updating my PC and she was able to come to my house within 2 days. She spent 1 1/2 hour working with the Verizon helpline to network my PC and laptop. She finally determined that my broadband router was not working properly. She recommended upgrading my memory and offered to help me set up the new router when it arrived.

She has even recommended various softwares for problem prevention, all of which have saved our company money. In conclusion, for Mel's Computer Help, it's about good service and customer satisfaction. I strongly recommend her company for business.
Description of Work: Melany Smith is an outstanding diagnostician and repair technician. I have used her on numerous occasions from network installation and servicing, virus and Trojan detection and cleaning and hardware to network installation. Her diagnostics have been correct on every occasion and her recommendation for remedy has been 100% on point.
