Matt was responsive to email, professional, and prompt. He recommended carbon fiber banding and gave me an estimate for the same to ensure that a slightly bowing foundation wall would not not move in the future. His recommendation exactly matched the recommendation of the structural engineer I hired to review the same foundation issue. Matt took his time, asked probing questions and answered mine. His estimate was less than I expected and the only reason I did not hire him to complete the work is that I decided to sell the property as-is. If I am in need of foundation/masonry work in the future, Matt will be my first call.

I had a half-dozen contractors come out to look and the foundation for a corner of my garage attached to my house. The foundation was sinking and spaces in the brick were opening up over the years. All but two of the contractors wanted to put in a number of helical piers -- some just across the front of the house, one even around two sides of the house. Matt Taylor and one other told me it just needed one where the brick was actually sinking. I decided to go with Taylor, but then had a little bit of trouble scheduling the work. When he did come, he did an excellent job except for the plants he dug up. (Because of the scheduling problem he had agreed to remove and replace the plants.) When I complained he knocked $100 of the price. I was very pleased with the work and his crew was very accommodating. (I can only assume the problem is now stabilized, but of course I will not know for five years or more.)
Description of Work: Installed one helical pier with foundation bracket to front right of garage door foundation wall to proper depth and torque to support load.

Although Matt did not end up doing work for us, he did, I feel, go above and beyond to offer advice regarding cracks in our foundation and what we needed to do about them, if anything. I had emailed Matt after we had water in one part of our finished basement after a particularly heavy rain and had noticed cracks on the exterior foundation wall. After describing the problem and emailing pictures of the cracks, Matt eased my mind and essentially told us the cracks were totally normal and did not need extensive repair - essentially explaining himself out of a potential job. Even though I haven't experienced his actual work, I think this approach and attitude speaks very highly of his personal values and the values of his business. He seems to be the type of businessman to provide potential customers with an honest assessment of any issues, even if it means no paying job for him. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him in the future for any job!

Matt Taylor saved me a significant amount of money by recommending elimination of the concrete slabs on the basketball court that I no longer use and fill the spaces with topsoil and grass seed. He made numerous other constructive suggestions and improvements to my original plan. His brother was the site supervisor at all times. His workers were cooperative, industrious, well-mannered and always punctual. Matt?s was able to start the work just a few days after I signed the contract. It was a pleasure doing business with him and his company.
Description of Work: 1. Replace concrete slabs for the following areas: • Driveway: Replace 10'x24' plus add extension on the right side of driveway approx. 100 SF=340 SF • Basketball court: Replace 11 'x 18'= 198 SF Demo only 18' x 22' and grade area with top soil Scope of work: • Demo concrete slabs and haul debris away from premises. • Compact sub base and install 4" thickness gravel base well compacted with a gas tamper to 900 PSI. • Install forms to shape slabs and provide 6x6x10 welded wire mesh to reinforce slab including V-T thickness asphalt expansion joints as needed. • Pour 6" thickness concrete ready mix into forms for driveway area and 4" thickness for court area. I did extensive research and on-site price comparisons with several different masonry contractors in the local area. Out of the 4 contractors I personally chose to interview for the job, M. Taylor Enterprise was the only one that directly met my needs, plus, he was the only one who offered me a military discount. Prompt, courteous, professional, and straight-to-the-point, Matt described exactly what I needed in the repairs I requested. He also explained what I could use later on down the road, but did not need right now. The other contractors quoted me an avg $13-$15k for the entire job to install a sump pump, rebuild both brick retaining walls, rebuild the concrete steps, and tear up the entire 15x20 concrete porch to install drains and prevent further flooding into my basement. Although Matt agreed that all of that work may eventually need to be done, he knew exactly what needed to be done right now; e.g., install a sump pump and drain for $2,800. In hindsight, this is all I actually really needed. Everything else is just cosmetic. Matt is a no-nonsense, down-to-earth masonry expert. He was upfront about all pre-inspection work and charges to include all follow-on work. If you want someone who paints a pretty picture, go with the other masonry contractors so they can immediately help reduce your bank account. From a first-hand account, masonry work is definitely dirty work. Matt knows this and lets you know upfront what needs to be done, what can be done, and what can be done later. All this equates to money well spent on immediate, and much-needed repairs that quickly solved the problem. For several years, the french drain outside my exterior basement door has continuously flooded into my basement at the slightest rainfall. With Matt's expertise, his crew broke up the concrete to the French drain, installed a high-capacity sump pump and connected it to a pvc pipe drain. In addition, his team broke down and expertly rebuilt a severely cracked retaining wall to the exterior basement stairs. Not soon thereafter, we experienced a massive torrential downpour and flash flooding in the area. My worries of experiencing yet another completely flooded basement immediately dissipated about two minutes into the downpour; my basement stayed and has remained to this day completely dry! Thanks for a job well-done, Matt!
Description of Work: Rebuilt french drain by Installing high capacity sump pump with pvc drain and repaved covering with concrete. Refurbished and rebuilt side retaining wall to exterior basement stairs (removed broken/decayed brick and concrete).

Matt came by to inspect my foundation today. He knew I had a flight to catch so he actually showed up a little early, which I appreciated. I just want to say, I feel he made an honest and professional assessment of the condition of my foundation. I feel it's a common practice for contractors to "scare" customers into buying their service. But Matt was very unbiased and honest about the condition of the foundation. He gave me ballpark estimates of what it may cost to reinforce the foundation, but informed that he felt it would not be necessary. I did not hire him to do any work, but I will definitely call him first when I do need work done. He seems like an honest guy and I would recommend his company to others.

Matt and his crew were on time and very professional. The quality of the work was excellent. They exceeded our expectations. He and his brother were a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend them to people who need this type of work done on their home. UPDATE as of 12/31/13: Just wanted to say that two seasons (and lots of heavy rainstorms) later we are still as thrilled as ever with Matt and his work!! At first, just by force of habit, we cringed whenever it rained, even though Matt and his team had solved our problem. Now we don't even sweat it when the weather calls for rain. Thank goodness! And thanks again to Matt and team, who did a really outstanding job for us. Happy New Year!

Please see above... they did a great job. Very professional. Will ask them to do similar work in our front porch later this summer.
Description of Work: Extension of existing concrete back patio (from 18'x20' to 20'x50') on unstable, disturbed soil. We first had helical piles installed by Paul Mauer from Levelift Systems and Taylor Enterprise framed and poured the concrete over the helical piles w pier caps that supported our concrete patio extension. Their quote for the work was 2/3 the price that of 3 other companies we contacted. They started their work promptly and showed great consideration and discussed with us any potential disruptions to our landscape and any damage to our asphalt driveway that might result from their work. No damage occurred. Their work was amazing. The concrete slab they provided was at least 6" thick and in some areas as much as 12" over pier caps.... a much greater thickness that proposed by other companies. The amount of rebar reinforcement they used to attach the old concrete patio to the new patio and to extend the new concrete patio was impressive. The specific terminology used was "#4 rebars to be in a 12" on center grid in both directions and at grade beam the underneath layer to be bent and go under old concrete slab to reinforce the new ledge". A lot of rebars!!! In fact our engineer thought it was much more than needed to support our patio......... we are so happy with their work. They were true professionals and paid attention to every detail (for example- they stopped to discuss with us the slope of our old patio which is greater than normal patio slopes and they also stopped work to show us how the projected edges of the new concrete patio would, if laid properly, be raised a few inches above ground level.... ). In other words, they pointed out and discussed with us options to consider when potential aesthetic issues came up during construction of the new patio. The resulting patio extension is great and extremely well built. They left the area clean and without any damage. We highly recommend Taylor Enterprises without any reservations. We plan on asking them to complete similar work for our front porch.

M. Taylor was excellent and gave the lowest bid out of three companies. They worked on both budget and time constraints. They were very respectful to my neighbor's property. They didn't take out what didn't need to be taken out. They saved a couple of boxwood hedges that another company wanted to remove, but M. Taylor did have to remove a tree that was very close to the house. They restored the landscape as best they could with new mulch, topsoil, and new grass seed. They used a great deal of care in handling the problem and were very professional. I would recommend them again.
Description of Work: They finished underpinning 22 helical piers underneath the foundation on our house. They corrected the settling and stabilizing the whole foundation, which included repairing cracks. They bonded the walls with a type of carbon fiber bands, gluing them to the wall, filled in the cracks, and repainted the wall so it hardly shows in the basement.

This experience went exceptionally well. We would highly recommend the company. Matt worked with the engineer to make sure Matt's team was on board with the engineer's stamped drawings. He communicated clearly to us about when things were going to happen and what to expect. The team that arrived included Brad, Pedro, and other crew members. Pedro and his crew worked to lift the house to level. Brad worked upstairs (in his stocking feet so that he wouldn't scratch the wood floors) to make sure that the lifting did not cause substantial damage. We were there when the house was lifted. The damage was minor--some cracks in the drywall. The stone floor did not crack or pop loose even though we were warned it could. A few days after everything was finished, we encountered an unexpected issue in one section of the house. We communicated it to Matt. He and his team came out dealt with it free of charge. They were exceptional. We couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: We had two deteriorated piers in the crawl space in our basement. One had tilted and settled so far that center support beam for that section of the house was off level by about two inches. (The beam in the other section of the house was not level either.) Matt's team raised the house so that the center support beam was level in all places; they excavated the footings; they poured new footings; and they added new supports.

It went smoothly. I wasn't home for most of the work but felt safe leaving Matt and his team alone in the house.
Description of Work: The main beams that held up my old house were too small for the size of the house. As a result, the beams were sagging and cracking. It was something that we were aware of when we purchased the house, but knew that it would be thousands of dollars to fix. Matt came to do an initial assessment of what was going on, then came back to do measurements and provide a detailed estimate. Unlike other contractors that came in for estimates, Matt assured us that our issue "wasn't too terrible." He put in temporary supports, took out the old wood beams, leveled off sagging joists, and put in new steel beams. The work took 2-3 days. Our floors no longer sag. He was easy to work with and cleaned everything up nicely.

He showed up when promised, he and his brother and crew were really polite and professional, they kept us completely informed every step of the way and cleaned up the entire site. He took photos of every phase of the project and gave them to us. He even planted seed and put straw down to restore the lawn when the job was done. The job was first class all the way. We have the peace of mind of a solid repair job and the repaired walls and new garage floor look great and better than new. Matt fixed our foundation problem and now 3 1/2 years later it still looks great and we've had absolutely no problems.
Description of Work: We had a very difficult foundation failure that had at least two contractors telling us we needed to tear down our garage. The footer had collapsed and the foundation had sunk several inches resulting in a large crack and separation with the floor sill plate. After carefully studying the problem, Matt provided a very good solution and worked with us to fit it into our budget. He installed 9 piers under the foundation and jacked it baqck into place. He cutout and replaced the garage floor and tied it into the repaired foundation walls.

I could NOT have been more pleased with Matt, Brad, and their entire team. They went above and beyond my expectations, knowing I was in "panic" mode! The cinder blocks in my basement had shifted to the point of no return! They literally took down two outside walls while the house was jacked up and rebuilt them. They dug out the terrible clay ground surrounding the house and along with rebuilding the walls, rebuilt the stairway leading to the basement outside entrance as well as the retaining wall that was shifting, also due to the clay dirt surrounding the house. These repairs took a long time, but the job is beautiful! If anyone needs waterproofing, cinder walls rebuilt, concrete work, these are the guys to call! They are WONDERFUL.
Description of Work: Basement cinder block walls were rebuilt; front walkway and steps were rebuilt; steps and retaining wall to basement entrance were also rebuilt; replaced a window in order to have a "legal" bedroom in the basement.

We had water problems (for years) in the basement that seemed to originate from one corner of the house. We interviewed several contractors but most wanted to dig up the interior to install a French drain and sump pump. Matt came over and his recommendation was to attack the problem from the exterior. While more expensive, it was the solution we preferred. Matt is not a salesman, unlike so many of the other people we interviewed for the job; he is a tradesman who knows his craft. That said, Matt can be slow to communicate and could benefit from having a better customer interface. Once we got on his agenda however, he was responsive via email and kept us informed of progress and plans. His brother Brad, Pedro, and the crew worked tirelessly on our house. They removed our old leaning front stoop, excavated around a corner of the house including removing and preserving a mature evergreen bush, installed the waterproofing membrane and poured a new stoop footing. They repaired the crumbling cinderblock interior to the basement, painted with dryloc, and rebuilt the front stoop. Everything but the new iron railings were included in the price. This company is very knowledgeable, professional, and responsive. The price originally seemed high, but when we see what we got for our money, it is more than reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone needing waterproofing services - no water in the basement so far! Also, just a fun note: the crew found an old 'cream top' milk bottle during the excavation and left if for us - it is from Thompson's Dairy 2012 11th St NW Washington, DC. Our house was built in the 1940's and this is our newest historic treasure!

During a major home renovation, we discovered some minor structural issues in our basement. Our structural engineer recommended Matt and another contractor. We liked Matt because he both quoted the job and did the actual work, and mid-way through the project he needed to adapt to an unknown site condition and was able to do so quickly and effectively. Would highly recommend Matt in the future. He is not chatty, but he knows what he's doing.

They were nothing out of the ordinary. They were prompt and pretty clean. They did their job in a professional manner. I think they should have used some better device while digging the concrete. I had some cleanup to do because of the dust. As far as work is concerned they delivered what I had asked for. They should have checked after the work if everything is sealed properly. They were cheaper than some other companies I checked on. They were more practical and cost effective. I appreciated that. The owner communicated well. The crew was here first in the morning and was always punctual.

I was very disappointed by the lack of professionalism.
Description of Work: I contacted M.Taylor Enterprises regarding my basement. I called the number listed on the website and spoke with Matt, who I believe is the owner. Even though his website notes he does work in the District, he told me he never does work in DC and he would consider helping me. He asked me to send him an email with the details so he could look at his schedule. I went right to my computer and emailed him right away. Matt's work appears to be top notch, but unfortunately I had issues with the communication and business elements. At the off-set, he seemed annoyed that we were getting numerous quotes for the work and attempted to turn down the job even though we had decided to go with him. We explained that we thought it was common business practice to get various quotes and told him we also were potentially interested in also having a driveway put in, so he agreed to do the work. After the initial foundation work, it took a long time to get a written quote on the driveway, and it was much higher than what he had verbally quoted. Since we only got a single number quoted, we asked if he could provide a breakdown. He never responded to our request and made it very difficult to get the project started. Ultimately we got frustrated and felt like we were "pulling teeth" just to get the job done, so we went with another company. On a personal level, I liked Matt, however, it was just too unprofessional and I don't think customers should have to beg to pay a contractor to get work done.

All the other companies wanted to tear up my basement floor and install pipes and pumps. Mr. Taylors price was less than other contractors that were proposing doing much less work. I called this company when I got them off my list server at work, he came out at a time I wanted. They were on time, on budget, fast and clean. These guys know their stuff! I have nothing but good things to say about M Taylor Enterprise.
Description of Work: What a great company. Mr Taylor excavated the outside of the basement wall and waterproofed my house to keep the water out. They dug the dirt away from two basement walls, clean walls, applied a rubber membrane, a drainage board, and a new gravel and foundation drain to the hill in the back yard. Backfilled and cleaned up.

Mr. Taylor appears very knowledgeable about concrete repair, was prompt, courteous, and his people left my property in good shape. I had consulted a number of companies before settling on Taylor. I chose his company because I believe that his solution to the problem would stabilize the house such that it would not settle further. All told, the work took about a week and a half and, surprisingly, was minimally disruptive (the house is 2-story and the downstairs can be closed off). I was pleased with my decision to invest in this major repair, and with M. Taylor Enterprise.
Description of Work: Foundation Repair: My house had settled due to loose fill. Taylor and his staff installed 16 helical piers to the depth of 20 to 25 feet, capped them, filled the void that had resulted from the settling, and also grouted extensively under the front walkway.
