 + 0 moreWe had a very small half bath that hadn't been updated since sometime in the 70's. Jesse performed a complete remodel of the bathroom, including ceramic tile floors, painting, installing new toilet, sink and faucet, cabinet, lighting. We are very pleased with the way the bathroom turned out. He worked on the weekend, which meant we didn't have to take three days off work to complete the job. He started when he said he would and finished on time. He also repaired drywall in the kitchen and installed a new light fixture. We would definitely have Jesse back to do work in our home. I was impressed with the care that he and Frank took in not making additional mess in the house while they were working, and cleaned up each day so that we we're inconvenienced at all. It was a very pleasant experience.

 + 0 moreOverall everything went well. Jesse had a family emergency so he wasn't able to get to my project until later, which was fine. I wasn't in a big rush. He communicated with me throughout the entire process and was willing to work with my home warranty service (I paid him, they reimbursed me), which was a seamless process. He arrived on time and completed the work in a timely manner. He was polite and cleaned up after himself. We discussed other home improvements for my house and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again. A few weeks after he did the work he called to let me know that a house he was restoring had a banister they didn't want and if it would fit I could have it for free. Unfortunately, it didn't fit, but I appreciated the thought. I see others have rated him him poorly, but I didn't have issues.
Description of Work: Jesse repaired three holes in my wall that were created to fix plumbing through a different company. Because the work was being paid for by my home warranty there were guidelines; nevertheless, Jesse repaired the holes at a rough finish, which is what was asked of him. While the mud dried, he offered to fix my kitchen sink, which was really nice.

 + 4 moreFirst of all, he charged $650 a day for 2 people to do the work. I work, so I couldn't be monitoring when they were here and exactly what they did all day, so that made me slightly uncomfortable. They did have a key to access my home because I left a key under the door mat for the days that they were there. Their attention to detail was not good. For example, when they cut a laminate counter top, it was jagged on the cut side. They had to make a lot of holes in the drywall to trace electrical and plumbing, but their repairs were not well done, and one area wasn't even finished. Some of the painting was sloppy. There is a hole in a wall that was never patched. They also did some tiling in the bathroom, but they tiled around the vanity and did a poor job caulking around it- that needs to be repaired as well. We did a walk through, but I didn't notice these things until afterwords.
Description of Work: One job was to convert a laundry room to a kitchen in the lower level of my home. The other job was to put a washer/dryer in my garage where there was no existing electrical or plumbing for that.

 + 0 moreThe ceiling fan in my bedroom was malfunctioning intermittently. I described the problem & Jesse came at the agreed upon time. After inspecting the fan, he said there were a couple of possible reasons for the malfunction and went to purchase a new receiver in case that was the culprit. After a bit of work on the fan it worked perfectly. He then altered the receiver of the fan in another bedroom which had been receiving the signal from my room, something which a prior handyman had not been able to do. The following morning my fan malfunctioned again. I called him back and we set a time for him to return, which he did just as scheduled. The presumption at that point was that the receiver must be receiving the signal intermittently so he replaced it swiftly. He cheerfully cleaned the fan for me at my request (it's too high for me to reach). He then, without my request, went on to fix my bedroom door handle which has been loose ever since my grandson learned that hanging on the lever and making the door open was great fun! Additionally, I had him look at another project for which I've gotten estimates ranging into the many thousands. Jesse suggested a much simpler fix which will end up costing less than $500. I have a long list of things which need attending to and I'm anxious to get Jesse working on them.

I called left mess , no responce back. called 2nd day and left mess- he called back asked where I lived and work needed? Explained tv ant and gutter replacement Said he would get back to me.didn't seem interested. No responce in a about a week. Emailed via Angie's list, still no return. Checked his reports again, seens to only do large money projects. Still have not heard from him. This was a test to see how he would workout before the complete remodeling job we neeed, as not good luck w/other companies used before. Cann't find good work folks anywhere.

 + -1 moreI contacted Jesse solely based on Angie's List. I gave him a "B" for responsiveness because it took him a day to get in contact with me after I left a message on his voice mail. With that said, all of the following correspondences were promptly responded to. I also gave him a "B" for professionalism but only because he was not able to provide me a receipt once the work was done, he said he would email it to me. In all other aspects, the professionalism is an "A". The work was good and my bathrooms were cleaned up well. I was charged $200 for both installs and $25 for materials which I found reasonable. Jesse showed up early which was fine with me, but he called me first to see if it was ok to do so. Overall I am pleased with Jesse and most likely would use him again.

I called and Jesse came out the second time, however the problem wasn't resolved and I called Angie's List to make them aware of what was going on. When I contacted the company the third time I found out that Jesse was on vacation so I had to stop using the toilet and cut the water valve off so that I would not be running unecessary water. When he did come back off of vacatioin he did fix the toilet and everything has been running fine since.
Description of Work: Jesse resolved a leak in my toilet and replaced shower heads for me.

He seems knowledgeable - and he completed all work in a timely fashion and cleaned up after himself. Next time he comes, I will make a list, because he was finished in 90 mins - which was great. I will definitely use Jessie again. He said he can practically do anything - except go up on the roof!

 + 1 moreA single aluminum siding trim piece (the rake) had fallen off the back of my house. I might have attempted to reattach it myself but the top of the roof is 30 feet up. No siding company I called was willing to do repairs. One suggested I call a handyman. I got Jesse's name and contact info from Angie's list. He was about to start a big job that would make him unavailable for two weeks, but made a special trip to my house at the end of a workday to do the repair. Since the repair itself didn't use up his time (minimum 2 hours), on his own initiative he reattached some gutters that had been loosened by last winter's ice. Excellent work; very courteous and professional, not to mention that he went out of his way to help me.

 + -1 moreThough satisfied with the quality of the work, I was not happy that he charged for 4 hours of labor when it took less than half that time. Even allowing a generous thirty minutes for purchasing materials, it should not have been more than 2 1/2 hours labor. I paid for the full 4 hours but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I believe that tradesmen should be fairly compensated but not given a windfall if they overestimate the time required to complete a project. My advice to Angie's List members is to be very clear about the estimate beforehand and ask whether the price will be adjusted to reflect the actual time if it takes less to perform the job.
Description of Work: I had requested several estimates for replacing a wood shed door. Jesse promptly responded and gave me an estimate of $300 plus materials based on a rate of $75 per hour for 4 hours. He arrived on time and proceeded with the project which included removal of the old door and cutting the new door to size and installing it with hardware. He completed the job in under 2 hours (no painting) including installing a toe plate in a bathroom vanity at no charge (10 minutes).

 + 15 moreWe've had several bad experiences with other contractors, so I was anxious about these projects. A co-worker gave us a good reference on Jesse, and we also checked to be sure that he is licensed and bonded. He initially inspected the areas involved in the remodel and spent time discussing our ideas. He was able to get started relatively quickly, and they arrived promptly each morning and often worked long hours, but stayed on the time schedule as planned. Their work is very neat, looks very professional, was completed on time, with no surprises or additional charges. At the end of each day, they always swept and cleaned up. And each time I changed my mind about some of the details, or asked if they could add or change something, they willingly did so without complaining. Jesse was easy to reach by phone and e-mail whenever we had a question. He and Frank are both friendly, neat, easy-going, unbelievably patient, and very professional. I'm still amazed at how reliable and responsible they were during each of these quite involved projects. I will continue to call him for any future contracting needs, and highly recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Totally renovated 2 bathrooms and extensive remodeling of kitchen (charged approximately $2500 per bathroom and $5000 for the kitchen, not including materials). Jesse and his "assistant," Frank worked on our house during Sept, Oct, and Nov 2009. The first job was to renovate 2 full bathrooms - he gave us cost and time estimates that were 100% accurate, and actually started and finished the jobs exactly as he predicted (5 days for one and 4 days for the other). Both bathrooms were completely gutted, and he helped us to select appropriate products - and even picked them up from Lowes in his truck! He took out a wall to make room for a larger shower stall, moved electrical outlets, replaced all the fixtures and cabinets, mounted wall cabinets, tiled both floors (and did an amazing job tiling around the tub enclosure - photo posted), painted and did all trim. Our kitchen remodel started by explaining to him that we just wanted him to take out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. We really had no other specific plan, but he made great suggestions and ended up moving electrical switches, rewiring and replacing our light with recessed fixtures and hanging lights, removed and replaced cabinets, rewired our microwave oven, and then applied drywall to the extensive open areas in the ceiling and wall. He even spent Christmas eve finishing the plumbing after marble countertops were installed. The results were amazing (photos posted).

 + 11 moreWe have never had anything that Jesse did for us not go well. He completes tasks quickly, efficiently, and well. As with any other contractor, we recommend asking for and obtaining a price beforehand. If the job is large, have as much of the material and parts assembled as possible, but Jesse will pick up anything you cannot. Once a price has been agreed on, Jesse stands behind it.
Description of Work: Jesse has done several jobs for us, including electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, etc. A large job completed in the early spring of 2009 was installing a new oven, sink faucet, in-sink disposal, countertop, and cabinets on one wall of our kitchen. He knew exactly how to do all the tasks and the result is very pleasing. The latest task was to repair many faults in the stairway leading down to the basement. The house is more than 30 years old, and due to settling and previous to our ownership, dubious maintenance, this stairway had many cracks and damaged sheetrock. Jesse fixed that and took out the old door frame, making it nice and modern looking with good sheetrock corners instead of old wood with hinges still on it. At the same time, and what prompted our call at first, the outdoor faucet in the front broke and was spewing water everytime it was turned on. Fixing it required removing the old pipe, which went through the living room (front) wall and installing new plumbing. He also fixed the hole in the wall so it is barely visible.

 + 0 moreWe are first-time homeowners, and I wanted someone to come work on our house who we could rely on in the future for odd little jobs in general, so I thought a handyman would be great for us instead of a plumber. Jesse actually returned my calls very promptly (unlike a plumber I called) and the thing about him that made me extremely pleased was that he said he'd be available to do the work in the evenings. My husband and I both work, so there's nothing that annoys me more than one of us having to take time off of work to wait for someone to show up at our house. So this already was a huge mark in Jesse's favor. Additionally, he was able to come do the work the same day I called him, which is also a huge plus. He was polite and did the work quickly and effectively at a great price. We would definitely call him again for future home repairs.

 + 1 moreI appreciated that he was able to work within my budget yet the finished product looked professional and attractive. He showed up on time, clear-headed and left on time. He laid floor covering down to protect carpeting from the front door to the work area. He took care to minimize any construction mess and cleaned up after the job was complete. Jesse was easy to reach whenever I had questions before, during and after the job. I got a good deal on a remodel of a 9x8 bathroom that had not been touched since the builders left it in 1987! I've another shower remodel job lined up with Jesse for later this year and he's also done some plumbing repairs for me since the remodel job. I have recommended him to other friends already.
Description of Work: Jesse and his partner spent a week remodeling the main/largest bathroom of my home. He showed up on time and completed the work-- including finish details, in the one week. He laid new water proof subflooring and also waterproofed the shower/tub enclosure. He installed ceramic tile on the floor and tub surround as well as installed a new tub, faucet and showerhead and replaced the shower rod. He also installed a new sink, sink faucet and cabinet surround. There was mold damage to drywall and wood studs and he addressed that issue completely. The approximate spend amount I have noted includes purchasing of materials and supplies, but does not include finishing painting or installing new accessories (besides the shower and sink fixtures).

I really liked his positive attitude that he wants to do the job to the customer's total satisfaction, rather than finish the work quickly to move on to the next one. He does high quality job, but does not charge excessive prices. Every time I need something done in my house, I always call him first beause I trust he will do an excellent job that takes care of the problem, no matter what they are.
Description of Work: I had a number of projects done by Jesse. One was repaint an area of ceiling in the living room that was discolored by a leaky roof. He did an excellent job painting the affected areas carefully and then cleaned up the floor thoroughly. Another was to install the new sump pump and reconfigured the pipe to pipe the water into the washer sink. He again did a good job. The biggest job he did was to take apart the floor in the shower which was too flat to drain the water completely. He carefully laid all the tile pieces together, calculated their slopes to make sure that water can drain easily and completely. I am very satisfied with the patience and carefulness he showed in completing this work. He charged me a very reasonable price, giving me some extra material for free.
