From the very beginning of our plumbing emergency, Jamie was there for us. He rushed to my house when I came home to discover the sound of water cascading from a broken pipe behind my kitchen cabinets. He managed to turn off the main water valve, which was stuck in place, saving us from even more damage to the basement below. Jamie and his assistant were meticulous in everything they did--from fixing the broken pipes, to cleaning up after demolishing our waterlogged walls, to doing an amazing job of creating our beautifully tiled new basement bathroom. Jamie stuck to his original estimate and provided detailed bills for insurance purposes. He also was happy to speak to our insurance adjustor in order to explain and justify --to the adjustor's satisfaction--the need for all the work he had done. This was a big factor in our getting reimbursed for most of our expenses. Many of my neighbors also rely on Jamie for kitchen and bath remodeling as well as regular plumbing work. He always gets rave reviews.
Description of Work: Jamie demolished and rebuilt our basement bathroom which had been destroyed after a water pipe burst in the kitchen wall directly above the bathroom. He has also performed other maintenance-type plumbing jobs for us over the years we have known him.

It went excellently. Work was the highest quality and the job was done on schedule. They started in early December and were finished by mid-January. Each day they cleaned up so well that is was hard to tell a remodeling was going on. I don't have any don'ts. I subsequently used Mr. Burkett to make repairs in my basement and to refinish the front half of the basement. I was very pleased with that work as well.
Description of Work: Mr. Burkett did a complete remodeling of a 74-year-old bathroom, removing all concrete in floor and all tiling. He replaced all plumbing and fixtures, which included a new cast iron tub. He re-tiled the floor and walls and did all finish work.

I was so very very pleased with the work done and with the professionalism and communication that occurred throughout the process. Sometimes a contractor who is good at the "doing" isn't as good at the communication, but this was absolutely not the case here. Everything was explained to me along the way, I was always treated with respect and concern, he told me what he was going to do-- when, why, how and where-- and did everything he said he would do. As a client who is not experienced at all in this area of work, it was really wonderful to feel that I could trust him to help me through the entire process. Oh, and by the way, the final product was wonderful!!! All of my neighbors and friends raved upon seeing my new bathroom about the wonderful job that was done!
Description of Work: Importantly, he diagnosed a problem that really needed attention. My old pipes were basically disintegrating, which caused a leAk below my bathroom floor. He gutted and re-did my entire bathroom, replacing pipes , then redoing floor,, tiling, everything, then put in new appliances .

We originally hired James based on a referral we received from our son whose bath and utility room James also renovated a year or so ago. We are almost seventy years old consider James to be one of the best contractors with whom we have ever worked. He and his team combine the craft and technical expertise of a master plumber with the aesthetic eye and attention to detail of an artisan. Due to the required demolition and jack-hammering, there was substantial dust and debris. Every day, the crew endeavored to minimize the disruption, to contain the dust and debris, and to clean-up as much as possible at the end of each day. James also worked with us to select new fixtures and tiles, made technical recommendations as the work progressed, and pointed us to an excellent local tile company. During the course of the work, James discovered another example, in addition to the toilet flange, where the original plumbing was at or near the point of failure. We were able to incorporate this remedial work into our contract, thus preventing the need for future excavation. Our experience with our new PRV illustrates James' commitment to customer satisfaction. When he first installed it, the new PRV made an irritating noise when water was turned off or on. James doggedly pursued the cause of this noise, spoke directly with the manufacturer, and ultimately completely disassembled and reinstalled the unit. It now works perfectly. We should also mention that James identified and corrected inferior cement repair work done by a previous plumbing contractor. We are delighted with our new baths and now consider James to be our plumber of first resort for large or small plumbing jobs, or bathroom renovations.
Description of Work: In October 2015, James Burkett and his team completely renovated our downstairs bathroom and replaced the shower stall in a second one. The downstairs work was necessary due to a leaking toilet flange connection under a thick cement slab in our early 70's home. The leak had ruined the floor tile, sub-flooring, and some of the surrounding lumber. We opted to have the entire room redone. The work, which entailed taking much of the room and shower stall down to the studs and installing new plumbing and fixtures, was especially challenging due to the confined space and the need to jackhammer the slab to access and replace a failing drain in the shower stall. Concurrently with the renovation work, he replaced our leaking pressure reducing valve (PRV) and water main shut- off valve. Since this large job, we have rehired him for smaller plumbing repair jobs. The work took a couple of weeks and the $30000 cost we cite includes all labor and the cost of all new fixtures and tiles we selected.

Description of Work: I hired him to put in a new disposal in the Kitchen sink. I have used James a number of times over the past 20 years. The last two times has been disappointing. For the disposal, he sent an assistant and charged me at a master plumber rate. The time before, he could not find why a bath tube was draining slowly. Another plumber came in and found the problem in short order. In the past James has been responsive, coming to my home on Sunday to fix a broken pipe.

Went very well. Work was done on time and with high quality attention to detail and going above and beyond. Helped us think about the best way to lay out the basement bathroom (not much choice upstairs) and recommended suppliers with which we were very happy (but was okay if we wanted to go with Home Depot for some items). Cleaned up every day and was conscientious about health concerns (asthma) with the dust. Very nice and soft-spoken and not at all intimidating or pressuring. Really wants to leave most decisions up to you but will offer advice if asked. We're very happy.
Description of Work: Installed new 3/4 basement bathroom (including wall), completely redid upstairs full bath. Replaced pipes with copper piping (older house).
