This is a design/build firm, and they probably try to save money by not having someone fully plan out the project. Instead, they work on the macro-level plans with the client, but then the details seem to be implemented as they go and without consultation with the owner. For example, they might install electric outlets or lights wherever they think it would work best, but don't consult to see if the placement works for you. Then they get mad if you want to change it and charge you for redoing the work. Typically, when working with an architect, all of those details would be planned or at least discussed with the owners, and then the owners can weigh in during construction before everything is finalized. With IKB, it seems like if you are not there every day, or multiple times a day, decisions are made and implemented before you are ever consulted. The owner isn't nice about it either. They are also not detail-oriented - outlets are not totally flush with the wall, cabinet doors are not fully aligned and squared, and they generally are obnoxious about fixing the "little things." We also had some issues with small leaks and things after the job was done, but they don't warranty their work.

Description of Work: IKB did work in three of our bathrooms. Two were minor updates and one was a complete gut renovations. Their design advice was terrific, their work and approach was high professional, and their price was competitive. Robert worked very hard to make sure that solutions were found to whatever problems arose during the course of the work. I would definitely use IKB again. Honest as the day is long.

Description of Work: IKB did a great job on a host of large tasks on my home -- two new bathrooms, built-ins by fireplace, crown moulding, etc. Since then, I've had them back to do odd jobs when they can fit me in their schedule. They are a local business and they have their own staff (not itinerant hires) who are very competent, professional, and trustworthy. I highly recommend them. | |

The first bid was $30,000....then I needed top molding, shoe molding, side molding, filler pieces, a sink, faucet, upgraded the counters from granite to quartz, under cabinet lighting, soft close doors, and that nice wood piece that covers the side of the fridge?..Those cost $500 each side....Let's not forget about the knobs! The next thing I see if an estimate for $37K....oh no...I decided the Maple cabinets where just as nice (and the same color) as the Cherry, and I could get my own knobs at Lowes for 1/3 the price. Everyone there was fantastic to work with. Penny fielded many of my calls. The guys showed up a week early to start, and they finished right on time. Oh, I forgot to mentioned I placed the order the week before Christmas, and the cabinet manufacture was closed the entire last week of the year. Yet I still had my new kitchen on time. I will be using these guys again for sure.
Description of Work: Tore out and replaced and existing kitchen. U shaped 9 x 9 x 9 with gas stove, wall mount microwave, 42 in maple cabinets, quartz counters, under cabinet lighting, mid range title flooring. I purchased my own appliances.

This was a great experience. Our new beautiful kitchen makes the entire house feel newer and fresher, at a price we were looking for with no hassle. I've heard so many horror stories of kitchen renovations, and this went perfectly from start to finish. They worked with us to get the kitchen we wanted: showing us the 3D designs, working with us on what tasks we could perform to lower the price point, what options would be worth the price savings and where it was worth spending the money. The final price was exactly what they had quoted us from the start. Rob checked in personally to make sure everything was going along, Penny was always available to work out how changes would affect the schedule or price, and Florina was invaluable in making sure the design worked out. Issues that have been major hassles for friends involved in remodeling - upstairs plumbing that would have gotten in the way of the new cabinets, a load-bearing support that had to be shifted several inches, extra cutouts that had to be made to fit the cabinets - were all taken in stride so easily that it was obvious we were dealing with professionals. The crew was professional, including the flooring and counter subcontractors who worked around our schedule to ensure we had minimal hassle. Everything was cleaned up each day by the time we got home in the evening, and the rest of the house was practically unaffected. Most importantly, having been told it would be done in 2-4 weeks, we were back in our kitchen two weeks and a day after they started. I recommend IKB highly to anyone who asks.

The structural remodeling was fantastic, and our kitchen turned out beautifully. The stairs and bathrooms turned out just ok. I would have rated this contractor all A's up until the near end of the job. We had a fundamental misunderstanding about what a finished job looked like. Our understanding was that it looked finished -- finished grouting, finished stairs, finished vanity tops (it's a pretty long list of very small things that we continue to notice over time). The contractor had a different understanding and ended up leaving the job, in our eyes, unfinished. I would not recommend for a large, complex remodeling job, but I would recommend for a smaller job especially a kitchen remodel.
Description of Work: Innovative Kitchens and Baths did extensive remodeling on our house, from a stairs relocation, to two new bathrooms, and a new kitchen.

Extensive preliminary discussions with contractor resulted in several contract revisions leading to final signing. Contract itself thorough and detailed, leading to attention to all aspects of job reduced to writing; this appeared to minimize misunderstandings and errors. Work with kitchen designer successfully provided us with full visualization of finished kitchen. Once all decisions were made with regard to kitchen components we were provided with a complete kitchen remodel package containing full detail on all aspects of the project - a highly useful compilation. Work started as projected and progressed at a good pace with a short period or two of inactivity as well as a week or so delay for each of two backordered appliances. Efforts to confine dust to kitchen and immediately adjacent rooms were effective. Job site was cleaned at COB each work day. The recommendations and advice we received from both the contractor and kitchen designer were essential to the successful completion of this project. IKB employees were all highly competent and responsible.
Description of Work: Project involved complete kitchen demolition including all existing cabinets, countertops, appliances, backsplash tile, flooring and underlayment, and portion of wall between kitchen and dining room. New cabinets installed after reframing and repair of walls and new door opening. Mount downdraft and connect with existing ductwork, and insulate ductwork. Extensive electrical work required including that required for relocated exposed wiring, new appliances, and undercounter lights, Plumbing, flooring, countertops, ceramic backsplash, and appliances installed as well as new gas line to cooktop. HVAC ductwork relocated. No painting or painting prep work included in estimate.
