Everything went very well. The estimator came on time. He measured the rooms with a laser and charged for the exact room dimensions. The flooring options offered were better in quality than what I could find in a DIY home improvement store but not as high end as what I saw in some flooring showrooms. We initially settled on Bruce Turlington since that was their most popular flooring, but, after I found Westchester (thicker and with a better finish) on the Bruce website, we went with the latter. The installers came on time and were very professional but they had to remove the old glue from the concrete with razor blades and chisels instead of a power planer. They could have done a better job in less time with the proper equipment. When the installer was finished, I asked about the thresholds to the other parts of the house and found out that they were not included in the original estimate. I paid the installer extra to put in thresholds, which he did before leaving, but the ones he placed were not oak but probably pine. Overall, they did a very good job at a fair price. I was especially happy that they used exact measurements to calculate prices. Other companies had used approximate numbers, rounding up to the nearest foot and then added 10% on top of that, which inflated the final numbers quite a bit.

I contacted Elegant floors along with several other contractors to get price quotes on refinishing the aforementioned items. Of the 4 I contacted, only two were willing to refinish the engineered floors we have on the basement hallway and office. Elegant was the slightly cheaper option so we decided to go with them. Initially, communication was good, however, as the project moved forward, they were poor about responding to requests for modifications to the contract and I often found myself calling, emailing and leaving multiple messages until they responded. The work was to be done while my family was on a short vacation, so one of their employees was supposed to pick up a key from me. They gave me a two hour window. Thirty minutes after the end of the window, I called to see where they were and they were still over an hour away. I don't feel like it should be on the customer to call to see if they are running late. Given the delays and poor communication, I was worried what I would come back to, but in the end, they did finish before our return. Communication also improved when I started contacting an employee named Evan rather than the original rep. Overall the floors look good. The repair job looks better than expected. Unfortunately, were a little surprised by the appearance of the new water base finished that was applied to the floors as it had a much thinner appearance than the original prefinished floors. Going back through the papers we were given by Elegant, one of the FAQ's did mention this, however it was not mentioned at the time when we were picking out finishes with the rep. We opted for the "Street Shoe" brand finish as it was supposed to be more durable, but had we known it would look so much thinner, we might have opted for the other top coat. That isn't to say the floors look bad. In fact, they look much better than before, but a little more communication would have given me a idea of what to expect from the different products they offered. One other area of disappointment is the sanding done around the thresholds between the wood floor and carpets is extremely uneven. However, the issue was not a big enough problem to warrant waiting at home any longer. I would consider using them again but would also still shop around. Due to communication issues and similar pricing with other companies.

They were professional and on time. They seemed competent and offered great advice on what to do in my bathrooms.

This was one of the worst experience with a contractor we have ever had. The crew started the job fine, and everything seemed to be going well. The entire job was supposed to take 3 days. After the first day they had barely begun to sand or move furniture. We had removed all of the furniture from our home per their request, so every day that went by we were paying for storage. The first room they did looked good, but we noticed that the creaks in the floor were still there (part of the job was to re-secure the subfloor with screws and to lay down a soundproofing cushion under the floor. They promised us they did both and that the creaking couldn't be fixed. Then they went onto the hallway and the next room. As the days rolled by the 3 day job turned into a 7 day job, and longer. The first staining of the downstairs floor wasn't even close to the color of the upstairs, but they said that was as dark as they could get it and to get it any darker they would have to put another coat of stain on it, which would of course cost more money. We agreed, since they essentially had us hostage. Then, after looking at the quality of the work upstairs we thought they hadn't finished, but they said they had. There were still areas that didn't have hardwood on them and we later came to find out that they hadnt done any of the securing of the floor that was part of the contract. We had another company come out to look at the job and they agreed it hadn't been done correctly. After many phone calls to Steve at Elegant Flooring which were not returned, we finally got his cell phone and called him. He got upset that we were asking them to fix the problem, cussed at us, and then hung say, but not before saying, "If you don't like it, sue me. You'll spend more on legal fees than the cost of the job." We sent him pictures of the problems and he accused us of "staging" the pictures to get money back. We never wanted or asked for our money back, we just wanted the job done right. See pictures. Horrible experience. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with this unethical and unprofessional company. UPDATE - I wanted respond to the contractors comments. Just as he did on the phone with me, he won't take any responsibility for the poor workmanship of his crew. Unfortunately for some reason the pictures did not post of the poor job but Steve remembers us very well, because he avoided our phone calls and emails for over a year, trying to assert the terms of the "guarantee" that they say they provide. In short, they didn't finish the job and there are still, 3 years later, areas that we can't fix unless they pull up all the hardwood and relay. My wife is a Realtor and I am a professional in DC, we have no interest in pushing for another company, but we do want to warn everyone not to do business with this contractor. You will be disappointed. And apparently if you post anything bad about them you will also be insulted and called a liar. Buyer beware.

Overall the process went very well. The crew was professional, careful, and talented. Conventional means of removal would not work but Elegant Floor Services was able to remove the etching and other older spots and scratches. The floors are now clean, polished, and beautiful. They removed and replaced the furniture and as incentive gave us a competitive adjustment to the price. The company could not have made the process any easier for me--they were great!

I was so pleased with everything that they had done. Evan has been so accommodating, professional and friendly throughout the entire process. I requested that he put down a strip of moulding for me and he did so without charging extra. They are pleasant and make their customers feel like they are appreciated. The whole experience has been fantastic and they did beautiful work. They are also very reasonably priced.

They were great. We shopped about seven different companies, and they gave us a good discount because they had a hole in their schedule.

They were good. Their price was good and they were efficient. They were a little bit hard to get hold of afterwards but they did finally get back to me. They showed up on time and completed everything like they said they would. They were reliable and relatively inexpensive.

I had a good experience with this company previously so I hired them to refinish some flooring/stairs and replace a section of hardwood flooring that had been damaged by a pet. They were quick and responsive to schedule a visit to provide an estimate. I thought the price was reasonable. The work was scheduled within a reasonable time frame. The work performed was satisfactory - although not exceptional by any means. I feel compelled to post this because of the company's lack of responsiveness after the job was done. Poor customer support would make me hesitate to call them in the future. I requested a simple modification to the invoice for our job for billing purposes. Actually I requested it twice by email and never got a response. The work was performed for a condo association - we will certainly need to hire someone in the future for similar work. I probably wouldn't use them again. Also for some reason the crew also went to the wrong address on the day of the job - an honest mistake no doubt - but I had to wait nearly an hour for them.

They were very responsive. They explained the process thoroughly. They were also prompt, efficient, and professional. I would recommend their services to anyone.

I found them to be very neat--they cleaned up afterward. We are very pleased with the job that they did. They showed up when they were supposed to and completed everything on time.

We discovered original hardwoods under the worn/stained carpet, and decided to rip the carpet up. They sanded & refinished the whole level plus 12-13 stairs. They also pulled up the boards at squeaky spots & screwed the subfloor to the joist; the original subfloor was nailed & worked itself loose over 35 years. Our floor looks almost new, and the haunted-house squeaking that woke up the kids is gone. We get compliments on the floor anytime friends & neighbors pop in.

we wanted to orginal get rid of all carpets that covered our orginal hardwood floors and refinsh them. Elegant Floors removed carpets, hauled away, sanded and refinished the floors. They added 3/4 round hardwood around entire perimeters and touched up any scuffs that occured during the sanding process. Thay taped up every room to keep what little dust from spreading around therest of the house. We later had them do a hardwood addition in a bedroom that just completed the beauty of our home. I have 1 more floor ina addition I put in that has carpet currently. That floor will definitely be installed by Elegant Floors

The service was excellent. The crew that worked in our house were respectful. They finished in a timely fashion. It was a positive experience for us. I highly recommend them.

The overall experience provided by Elegant Floor Services was excellent. It was completely painless. From the free in home estimate through the completion of the project everything went well. The guys showed up in the time frame they said they would and were informed and prepared to do the work contracted. The guys were able to wrap the job up in the allotted time and left the work area clean. The final product is stunning. It looks like we had new floors installed!

Initial scheduling and estimation gave my pause but when those who performed the work showed up they communicated/updated expectations (steps, finish times, etc.) effectively, conducted work quietly & diligently, and when I had other contractors over, proved very flexible to my needs and schedule. Work was completed over two days (because of job size) and they left the area clean each day.

They did a magnificent job. They were very punctual. The first day they sent three people out who installed most of it. The next day two men came out and finished the project. They left both days with the work area spotless. We chose them because they had the best price out of three other estimates. I could not recommend them higher

I had a very good experience with Elegant Floor Services. Joe came out and gave me an estimate. After getting an estimate from another company, I spoke with Steve in the office and we settled on a competitive price for the work I wanted done. They sent a crew out of Juan Carlos and Alberto and they did a wonderful job. I opted to pay extra for the special dust containment system they had (they used a special machine) and it was very effective. I found practically no dust inside the house afterwords. Joe, Steve and the crew were very prompt in all my exchanges with them. Joe arrived on time for the estimate. Juan Carlos and Alberto arrived on time and finished the work on time and Juan Carlos was very helpful to me in choosing the stains for the various locations (I had three different stains applied). The oak floors looked beautiful after they were finished. I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again.

I scheduled the estimate for early one morning before work. Their rep was there on time and provided an estimate based on square footage (he measured every room and closet). He confirmed that the floors could be refinished (there was some question, since they are engineered wood), and even moved a (very dirty) carpet remnant (left by the previous owner) out of the way, so he could get a better look at the flooring in one room. That room had the original parquet floor, and he confirmed that it could be refinished as well. Another area of concern was the living room - it had 2 large cat urine stains (also generously left by the previous owner). Their rep confirmed that with a darker stain, they could probably camouflage most of it. I received the estimate and stain samples same day via email, which was very convenient. We got another estimate, which was a couple hundred dollars less, so we initially decided to go elsewhere. But, after a hassle trying to schedule the work (admittedly, we kept putting it off because of other remodeling being done in the house), our schedules finally did not align, so we came back to EFS. I'm glad we did. They were completely accommodating, and lowered their estimate (10% Angie's list discount). We scheduled the work, and it went basically without a hitch. I especially liked the way they had prepared an area (after sanding) with the three sample stains I had chosen, so I would know exactly what the final choice would look like. The only hiccup was the room with parquet. After sanding, they noticed that the parquet was too thin (it had evidently been refinished before), and they recommended that we replace the floor with engineered oak to match the rest of the house, or carpet. Neither was in our budget or time constraints, so we told them to continue refinishing, and we would live with the results. There are a couple tiles that have lifted up and are sort of "crunchy" - but it's nothing an area rug can't hide. The rest of the floors look great - I get compliments on them from everyone who enters. I have noticed a few spots that seem to have circular scratches (I assume that's from the sander), but it's not at all noticeable unless you inspect really closely...and it's a small price to pay to be able to save the floors. Also - the cat stains are gone! For the price, the flexibility in scheduling, and making sure it was done before we needed to move in, I'm very happy with their work.

They did an excellent job of refinishing floors that had not been done in decades. The floors are beautiful!! The work crew was phenomenal! They also altered their schedule to finish the floors when the house was empty, which saved me money. Great business!

Several workers arrived on time. There was some confusion about which stain and finish we had chosen. They quickly sanded in three places and applied three different stains. We chose to have them move the furniture and replace it--well worth the $500. We went away for 5 days and when we returned, the furniture was just being placed back where it was supposed to be. We were glad that we could direct them so that the furniture was placed where we wanted it. We are extremely happy with the look of our "new" hardwood floors.
