+ -1 moreCreative Surroundings guaranteed everything for 5 years. It was a little less than a year when I contacted the company with this problem. I was told deck screws were "a special order". I couldn't believe it... I got the run-around and no deck fixed. Now, after no less than 4 attempts to have the problem addressed, and many months of waiting, I fixed the deck myself. I am also going to replace some very sorry looking railings that should have NEVER been used in the first place. They were warped and split the day they were installed! I have pride in my work even when others don't. The screws cost me $30 and the railings are $0.97 a piece. Save your money and save yourself a headache. Hire a company who takes pride in their work and stands by their guarantee. Creative Surroundings obviously does not. The part that is the worst - the owner of the company is a GOOD friend of my friend. When I recommended Creative Surroundings to my buddy and they messed up, I stood up for them. When a gentlemen came TO MY HOUSE to get a recommendation and I showed him my deck, I stood by their design. And then I don't get my phone calls returned. I gave Creative Surroundings no less than 3 additional jobs after they did my patio and deck. To them, I was just a quick buck who they can quickly forget. HIRE SOMEONE ELSE!!!
Description of Work: Originally, I asked Creative Surroundings to build a patio for me in the backyard. They did a great job, but I was expected to finish the drainage from my gutters away from the house. The salesman promised that Creative Surroundings would finish this job, but they did not. No problem. It was not that big of a deal. However, my wife convinced me to hire Creative Surroundings to build a deck for us. And here lies the issue. Creative Surroundings used nails in the railings and the handrails, and they are pulling apart. Of course! I have never heard of using nails in a deck before, but I know Maryland does not get the winter that Pennsylvania does. Apparently Maryland does not the get the education that Pennsylvanians have either about deck screws. It's in the NAME -- "deck screws"! Screws should be used on a deck.
