Capitol Chimney Service LLC

Over the last four years we have had our chimney inspected twice, and both times we were told that it was in good (i.e safe) working condition but we should consider repairing this mortar issue within a few years. Capitol Chimney did a great job with the cleaning, but we were disapointed with the recommended repairs. The service man recommended a long list of repairs totalling over $1,000. When we asked if any of these recommended repairs were necessary to be able to have a safe fire in the fireplace he said "no." We then asked how much for just the mortar repair, and he said that was part of the overall estimate, which he couldn't separate out easily. He also said it was not needed at this time for a safe fire. Rather than try to estimate just the mortar work, he kept pushing for the whole suite of services. We ended up declining the service, so in the end our "Big Deal" ended up being just a chimney sweep, for about the price we've paid elsewhere.

The appointment fit right into my work schedule which was a great convenience to me. The 2 technicians were on time, fast, efficient and courteous. Great price as well. I would use the services of this company again and highly recommend to other consumers.

2 gentlemen came promptly. One performed the cleaning of the fireplace and chimney, the other one performed an inspection from the outside. They also answered any questions I had. Job well done.

I bought the deal from Angie's list. My chimney was pretty clean before the sweep since we didn't use much last year and haven't started to use this year. Also my furnace and hotwater heater don't vent to chimney, so it's pretty easy. But I wanted somebody to professionally inspect my chimney since I have no idea how to maintain it. The technicians were polite and they cleaned up after the job. The whole process was less than 20 minutes. They vigorously sweeped up and down the chimney. Afterwards they showed me that my damper is rusted, and the back bricks need to be repaired. I am afraid that their forceful cleaning and shaking the damper ade the rusted damper worse than before, although it wasn't a good one to begin with. But I wish they could have been more gentle after they saw the situation of the damper. They showed me that the screen on the top was broken as well. I thought I had a cap but after the sweep there was no cap there. It was the first time I took a detailed look at the inside and outside of my chimney. The technician gave me a list of repair/replacement that would cost over $1,000. Afterwards, I bought a cap from homedepot that costed <$40 and put it on myself easily. The appointment was easy to make but they changed the time window one day before the appointment. Overall, I guess the chimney sweep was good and I learned something about my chimney and found things that I can do myself.

After coming out to do an initial inspection (and to use the deal we bought through Angie's List) we were told that our chimney had sustained some damage over the years and needed major work past what the deal covered (a chimney sweep and new cap). They provided me with pictures taken while they were on the roof and sure enough the chimney was all but falling apart. After giving me estimates on the work needed to be done it all sounded very reasonable and we proceeded to schedule them to come out and perform the work. It took one day for them to install and rebuild everything they needed to, and 4 weeks later we have no complaints. They applied the $ we had spent on the Angie's List deal towards the total cost of the job so that we would not lose the value. They were also able to reuse many of the loose bricks so as not to have to purchase new materials entirely. The service went very well overall and we would definitely use them again for future chimney servicing. The only damage sustained during the work was a rip in one of our window screens from their scaffolding outside, which they agreed to fix/replace (I am currently still waiting for the new/repaired screen to be installed after one reminder for them on my part).

Called Monday got appointment for Wednesday morning. 2 man crew arrived 915a, introduced themselves, carefully entered the house to the fireplace In our family room carrying a large shop vac and cleaning tools and asked when we last had it cleaned. One worker prepared for the inside work by laying down a large blanket, carefully removing the grate and fireplace tools we had stored in the fireplace. The other worker set up the ladder to go The other worker came back to join the first one and held the vacuum hose while the other scraped the flue with a large brush. Then one of the workers went up to the chimney to work. Job took approximately 45 minutes. After completion of the cleaning, the lead man indicated the chimney wasn't too bad but did find small cracks on the concrete surrounding the chimney and shifting piece of flashing. He had taken pictures with his cell phone to show me exactly what he described. He offered to repair of the spot at what seemed to be a reasonable price. I declined due to time constraint. They left the place clean with no trace of dirt or soot. That's impressive. Price was exactly as quoted. I was very impressed with the whole experience, from start to finish, recommend without reservation.

well, they also checked that the chimneys worked at my request, i.e. we lit fires in both fire places to check that they worked and they showed me how to open and close the chimney cap.

We called Capitol Chimney, and Roger came over to give us an estimate a few days later. He was happy to talk through our options with us, and was transparent about costs. We met with him on a weekend, and the crew was able to perform the work the following Tuesday-Thursday. The price was originally competitive, but Roger was willing to offer a discount if we could be flexible with our installation schedule. Our house was built in 1928, and has a very unique brick pattern. Roger worked with us and his supplier to match the brick for the chimney rebuild as closely as possible, and to lay a pattern that was reflective of the rest of the house but stronger and more durable. Throughout the process, Roger was responsive and flexible. The crew arrived as scheduled all three days, and went above and beyond expectations. They installed completely new ducts to our appliances instead of trying to take a short cut, and even cleaned our gutters while they were on the roof. Overall this was an excellent experience.

We purchased a coupon for a chimney sweep and discount on masonry repair. We were given a window of time for service when the appointment was made. I called to confirm time and got no response. I called again on the day of the appointment to confirm service and got no response. The technician did arrive but without any sort of advanced call which would have been helpful. He said he cleaned the chimney and also pointed out problems with our masonry and gave us an estimate for $635 to fix the bricks and install a new damper. We specifically asked him if we could use the fireplace now, and he said yes. However, when we did, smoke filled the chimney and poured into the livingroom even though the damper was wide open. We tried a second fire a few days later and the problem was even worse. We emailed the company and called. About a week later, I got a call personally from the owner who gave me his cell phone number. He suggested moving the grill to the back of the fire place and warming up the chimney. On the next cold day, I tried it and it worked perfectly. Overall, we still felt that his company was always trying to sell us something, and I wish his responses had been quicker, but he proved to be correct about the fireplace and the cleaning they did was quality work. We are planning to contact them to have some of the masonry work done.

They came! They cleaned! They went! I purchased their Angie's List coupon. The rep on the phone was professional when scheduling the appointment.The crew of two arrived on time and were pleasant. It took no more than 30 minutes to clean. They were careful not to create a mess and cleaned up the work area after. They also did an inspection of the condition of the chimney and flue and provided recommendations. They are my kind of contractor, no muss, no fuss, were punctual and did the job right. I would hire again.

Capitol Chimney Service, LLC told me my chimney wasn't safe for cleaning. That it needed a lot of expensive work done to it. Then they told me that what they would have charged to do an estimate for the work was $75. They didn't DO anything except give me a quote for $4,000. So I feel a little cheated, I didn't get anything for my $99.

Every two years, our HOA mandates that we have our chimneys inspected, and if needed, cleaned. We contacted Capitol Chimney Service after another company, with whom we've dealt for years, pushed rather aggressively for a ~$400 repair to our fireplace box that we did not believe was needed. There was supposedly a crack in our firebox- one that I could not confirm after careful inspection. After combing through several recent reviews of this other company on Angie's List, I saw multiple similar experiences reported by members. So, we sought a second opinion. It was straightforward to make an appointment for Capitol Chimney Service to make their inspection within the following week. Capitol Chimney inspected our fireplace and confirmed our suspicion that there was no problem with our firebox and proceeded to clean our chimney. They did this quickly, effectively, and efficiently. Capitol Chimney Service was highly professional and courteous. The price was reasonable and was identical to the original estimate given over the phone. My wife and I were very satisfied with our entire experience with Capitol Chimney Service and do plan on using them again in the future, when it is time again in two years to perform our HOA mandated chimney inspection and cleaning- sooner if we have any issues with the fireplace before this time. We would recommend them to anyone needing fireplace inspection or cleaning.

This is the first time I've used a chimney sweep, but overall the experience was good. It was easy to schedule an appointment, and the team arrived within the 2-hour time frame. They completed the chimney sweep quickly and with no mess.

He said I didn't need a chimney cap after inspecting it so he only charged for the sweep, which was $99. They left everything clean, brought the tarp to put down and they took off their shoes,. They are very neat and organized. They were quick in, did the job, cleaned up, and left. I will be calling them again in future.

The estimate was good and the workers were good. Everything was fine and I've used the chimney three times now and it seems to be working well. It's a fireplace chimney and not a furnace chimney, so they were clean. It was a good price and the service was high quality. They were very responsible and on time. They wore uniforms and everything and I'll probably use them for cleaning the chimney soon.

It was a positive experience and I would recommend them. The first time, they were a few minutes late, but they were on time the second time. They took the time to discuss about the repairs that were needed and all the options.

I bought an Angie's Deal for a chimney cleaning. I called several times, always got a recording to leave a message. Left two messages on two different days requesting that they call me back to schedule an appointment. It has been over a week and they never called back. I am going to need to request a refund for this Angie's List because, now, if they do call me back, I don't want their services.

At every point of service this company was extremely professional. The girl tht schesuled was extremely friendly and helpful. She gave a window I arrival time, and gave a pretty good idea of when theyd arrive w/I that window. Roger called to let me know he was 30 mins away. Very punctual- a plus for a contractor :-) Roger and javier arrived and covered my brand new (white) carpets to avoid making a mess.
