The rebuilt chimneys are beautiful! Capitol Chimney Service's estimate was the most reasonable of the 3 we obtained. The work ethic of the crew was exceptional and efficient. Roger, the company owner, explained the process clearly and was on site every day to assess the progress and keep us informed. After realizing that three flues were unlined and the other two only had pieces of old terracotta liners, Roger scheduled additional workers and time to remove the terracotta pieces and install new ones in the 5 flues of our historic house. To accommodate our work schedules, he and the crew worked well into the evening one night to finish the interior work. Roger was polite, friendly, professional and managed his crew well. Because our home is historic, we were concerned about using new bricks to rebuild the chimneys. Capitol Chimney Service understood our concern and offered to clean and reuse as many of the original bricks as possible and match the historic mortar. Roger was even able to obtain similar old bricks from a chimney he recently tore down to replace all of the unusable bricks. We would definitely use Capitol Chimney service again.

The service turned out to be very well. They did some extensive work for us. They couldn't clean because we needed to have some inside work of the chimney, so they did that work. They actually put down two long pipes that one goes into the furnace and another one into the fireplace. The house is actually a lot warmer. We never realized how much heat we were loosing up the fireplace. We didn't get other estimates and we just took their word. They were recommended on Angie's List. They charged $110 for cleaning. They worked hard and did a good job. It was not an easy work. We felt we were not overcharged and the price was reasonable. They were very good and worked very hard. They were courteous. They were also very careful not to track anything in the house. They came out the next week.

It went well. It looked well and I had no problems with them. They were quite courteous and warned me not to wait too long. It has been quite a while but I remember being happy with them and not having any problem with the people which means they must have been here when they said they would be here or I would not have been that happy. With the Big Deal coupon, I got a real bargain. They were able to come when I asked them to come; I did not have to wait for long for them to come.

Everything went very well. No complaints whatever.

First, Capitol's office was friendly and very responsive. I contacted them due to positive reviews on Angie's and because my usual provider was very expensive -and unable to schedule me until the end of November. Granted, October is a busy time for chimney cleaning -but, Capitol Chimney Service got me in within a week. Also--we were able to negotiate a deal as long as I paid cash. The office called me up the day before, and the day of the appointment, to alert me to the technician's arrival. Two technicians arrived, Roger and Giovanni. Very professional, very focused, very thorough -and quick. In and out in about 30-40m. They also placed fireplace furniture back to original positions. At completion, they took the time to answer my questions and offer practical advice on good chimney maintenance. Really glad to have discovered Capitol through Angie's -and to have had such a positive experience! Highly recommended.

It turned out just fine. They came within about a week. I think they were good. I would recommend them.

Overall it was a good experience working with Capitol Chimney, especially when dealing with the office over the phone. They were very courteous and professional. The owner of the company came down personally for the estimate and then had his office call to schedule an appointment. The only negative thing was the service was scheduled for the morning and they didn't show up until the late afternoon. Despite this, I will definitely use them again.

The person on the phone said the contractor will inspect the flushing around the chimney and seal it if need be. When the technician arrived he refused to do it, and told us our chimney needs to be rebuilt. We got three other opinions, no one said that. Everyone confirmed that our chimney is great all we need is flushing sealed and maybe consider dumpers to block air from coming in. I was quite disappointed because the deal was that we pay for the inspection and the cleaning and we get 200 dollars credit for repairs which we never used and will not use. The technician gave us an estimate of more than 1400 to rebuild the chimney that does not need to be rebuilt. I felt it was a total waste of money.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out fine. I thought they did a good job. They cleaned up the debris. I bought the coupon, and they didn't follow up with me right away, I had to call them to set an appointment. When he showed up at my door, he showed up to do the clean up without the equipment. He then went right back to his car and got the equipment to clean the dryer vent and did a good job.

I purchased a big deal for the service, and the cleaning worked out well. He tried to get my chimney fixed, but I decided not to that. I haven't used the chimney yet, because I am a little afraid because he said it needed to be repaired. I am looking for someone else to come and look at it to see if it needs to be repaired. I was home and in the house, and I didn't know that he had gone up there as I didn't see him with a long ladder. The price was fine.

Punctual, cleaned stove, inspected it and gave it a clean bill of health.

We recently bought our house and wanted our 2 chimneys cleaned and inspected. We bought 2 coupons from Angie's List to have Capitol Chimney Service clean and inspect them. They scheduled to come and upon inspection, found the chimneys to be clean. They inspected the chimneys and mechanical parts, took pictures, and showed us the areas of concern. They gave us a quote and allowed us to apply the value of our sweeping coupon to the repairs. They did not have the parts to perform the repairs that day. They came back as scheduled and replaced one cap/damper and put one on a chimney that had none. They also made repairs to masonry and flashing. When the work was complete, they realized that they had put a damper on a fireplace that was only supposed to be repaired. They did not try to charge us for the extra expense but we offered to split the difference, which we wound up doing. We are very pleased with their work (so far) and will not hesitate to use them again.

I bought the Angie's List Coupon($99 for a full chimney sweep and $100 credit toward masonry repair) and called the office of Capitol Chimney Service to set up a date for a chimney sweep. Unfortunately no one showed up on the date alotted for service. I called and they said that my request never quite made it into the system. Not a problem b/c it was that urgent anyway. The serviceman(I can't recall his name) came over and assessed the situation. He said that he could only give me a partial sweep b/c of the old fashioned damper that I had. He gave me a few options: change the damper and get a full sweep, keep the existing damper and get a partial sweep, or get a refund. I chose the first option: change the damper. He quoted me at $450 which seemed somewhat high since their website said it cost $285-$385 but I proceeded anyway. He was very nice over the phone and very knowledgeable and got the job done. My chief complaint was that the newly installed damper didn't utilize the old knob on the outside of the fireplace to open and close itself. It was now to be opened and closed by a pulley on the inside. I wasn't made aware of this and liked the functionality of the knob on the outside. I kinda thought he would have mentioned this but maybe he didn't see it as a big deal. I called to ask him about it and question him about minor cracks in the masonry repair on the inside of the chimney(to honor the $100 masonry repair credit) but got no response. I think these Angie's List coupons are a real shot in the dark most of the time. They want your business but want to sell you up a river a majority of the time otherwise they won't produce much of a profit. I feel that this was the case. Good work, but it could have been better.

They were very courteous and started work in the fireplace immediately. I did not see the inspection of the flue, and nothing was spoken of until I asked about the inspection. Again, they laid out a large black tarp, vacuumed the pit area thoroughly, and pronounced the fireplace ready for use.

The team was on time and called before arriving. The inspection and sweep took only a short time. I needed minor repairs - the team was able to complete them the same day. I highly recommend this company.

The guys who came were very nice- but they were in and out in under 10 minutes, using a hepa vac from the bottom of the fireplace and snaking it up. I can't imagine the job was very thorough given it was completed so quickly, and for $110, it seemed like an awful lot to pay. If chimney sweeps and inspections are usually this quick, please disregard this review.

Wayne and Abe arrived on the early side of the 9am to 12pm window for my appointment (around 9:45am). They were friendly, removed their shoes to enter the house, and happy to explain what they were seeing and doing as they proceeded with their two chimney inspections and one chimney cleaning (I have two fireplaces in my home: one is operative and the other is not). As for the cleaning, they were very tidy, laid down a black tarp over the hearth and the carpet in front of the fireplace, and left everything nice and neat when they were done sweeping the chimney and vacuuming the soot out -- no mess whatsoever. After inspecting both chimneys both from the inside and the outside (and providing pictures of what they saw on the roof), they were happy to caulk a tiny crack in the siding of the operative chimney stack, as well as a few small gaps in the mortar of the non-operative chimney stack, for no extra charge. I was amazed that I didn't hear them tell me the little chip of missing mortar was going to require a full-blown re-mortaring of the unused chimney stack, although they did recommend I keep an eye on it, because such a repair might be needed at some point due to wear and tear over the years. (Capitol Chimney Services can rest assured that they'll get the call if and when that repair is needed). All in all, they were in and out in about 35-45 minutes, but probably could've been done in 30 minutes or less were it not for me asking questions and talking with them. Price for the inspection + cleaning ($110 with coupon, plus $200 credit toward any repairs) was a good deal. Would have been an even better deal had I needed to use that $200 credit, but thankfully all was in good shape. Price for the inspection alone for my second fireplace ($75 with no coupon) was about $10 higher than I could find with another provider in the area, but the deal on the cleaning for the other chimney more than made up for this. These guys were thorough-yet-quick, friendly, and honest. Will definitely use them again for annual cleanings.

If you buy the coupon online -- make sure you call the company to schedule. The individual that accepted the call was very nice and professional. The workers came in and were very quick -- not unpleasant but not pleasant. Since there was nothing in my chimney and they were neat, they would have received a B but the one worker seemed annoyed that I was asking him questions and that would make me not use this company again.

I purchased a deal on Angles list for $110.00 approximately a week ago. The company initially e-mailed via Angies list asking what kind of fireplace I had and also stated that the dates for service requested were not available; I said ok and stated that the recommended date was ok as well as advised about the chimney being wood burning. After a couples of days without response I called the company and asked if the date of the 14th of October was ok and the receptionist looked up the e-mail trace and stated they could come out on the 15th--I asked if anybody was going to let me know that--- Last night, I checked Angies list for another project and discovered that the company had again e-mailed and asked for my phone number, which ticked me off because that information had been provided in the original purchase request. I sent a response "is your company tech. stupid"--I p provided the phone number in the note section of the original purchase. Well, apparently company management though I was calling an employee stupid; in reality I was asking if the company was IT technically stupid since they failed to check for the phone number on the original purchase. So, their feelings got hurt and the company manager called and stated they would not be able to service my chimney because I called an employee stupid---The manager was very polite in telling me this as well as advising it was my problem to collect monies already paid through Angles list. in closing, the company probably does good work however, do not pre-pay for services with this company---call and make your appointment; seems the deal on Angies list thing does not work with this company--at least not for me. P.S. the manager advised that they are a busy company and it might take a few days before they can respond to purchase requests submitted electronically-so be patient if you go this route. .

Roger and his crew were prompt and courteous. They promptly began the required work and were judicious about maintaining a cleanly work area laying down cloth tarps and removing their shoes at one point. All work was done quickly and to my satisfaction. I was hoping to have them repair the damper but when they remove the old malfunctioning damper, it basically crumbled in their hands from rust. The inspection revealed a decent amount of work which will need to be completed in order to bring the chimney up to par. Roger took photographs to describe each deficiency and completed an estimate prior to leaving. At no time did I feel pressure or felt like he was "up-selling" me. I don't have much experience with chimneys so I can't say for certain if this is the BEST price but it seems on par if not a little pricier than competing companies. I am always willing to pay a bit extra for the professionalism of the crew. All in all, this was a very positive experience and I plan on using Capital Chimneys again in the near future to complete the required repair work.

They appeared to do a good job cleaning the chimney except for one HUGE mistake that I discovered later. They did not remove the flue to clean the ledge above the flue. Another company removed the flue two weeks later and cleaned out a very large pile of soot that was left behind by Capitol Chimney. Given this botched job, I will not use them again.

They arrived within the 3 hour scheduling timeframe that was established. They were very neat. I was a little worried about my white couch next to the fireplace but they put down a drop cloth on the floor and all their tools remained on that. They cleaned the chimney and recommended some repairs. They were able to complete one repair while on site - removing the broken steel damper and replacing is with an energy efficient one. I did schedule another appointment with them to come back and parge the smoke chamber. I found the associates to be very efficient and professional.

We cannot say enough good things about this company. i purchased the Angie's List coupon for cleaning and repairs and Capitol Chimney came on a Saturday. After making quick work of the cleaning, they did the inspection. There were some cracks in the chimney and the crown and we decided to do the work (spot cut 20 bricks and encase the crown). After a schedule mixup (unsure whether it was our fault or the company's), the company managed to come out the two days after the mixup was discovered - a Saturday no less - and arrived early. Once the workers started cutting, they realized that we had a much bigger problem as a lot of the brick and mortar surround the cutting areas were brittle and broke during the cutting. The masons suggested that we do a complete rebuild from the flashing on up instead because the chimney would not last much longer. (To illustrate, the crew was able to pull out some of the bricks with their hands alone during demolition.) After speaking with the owner, he quoted us a very fair price because of the unexpected surprise and we agreed. The guys finished demo that day and came back on the Tuesday to start the rebuild. They finished a day early and the work looks great! The crew was very, very nice, hard working, and answered all of our questions. The crew did a fantastic job cleaning up the broken brick and mortar and hauled it all away. We will definitely call them again for our future chimney needs.

It was fine. The guys came and checked my chimney. They were only here a couple of minutes. They had to reschedule at some point. So that was unfortunate which is kind of inconvenient but things happen. At least they came and check the place out and they were in and out pretty quickly.
