Capitol Chimney Service LLC

Upon receiving several bids for a chimney repair, decided to go with Capitol due to detailed explanation of work required and price. The workers showed up as promised by Roger the owner. They were courteous, professional and very responsive to any of my questions. They completed the work as scheduled in several days. They also did some brick repair on some bricks on the front of the house and returned to add waterproofing once the job had been completed as promised. Roger the owner also stopped back to ensure I was satisfied and to answer any questions. Upon completion they left my property neat and clean. In short, they provided the service in a way you would hope when you contract for work.

The provider showed up on time, was thorough in the examination, gave reasonable quotes, and did good work replacing the cap (apparently something managed to get in and then forced it's way out.) We plan to use them again for the repairs.

They sweep in this house for about a year. We were trying to get our inspection schedule on the same day when our Realtor was available and could let us in to the house. I confirmed with them on my two or three dates leading up to the day we're having all these inspections done, our availability. The day that we're here, they had actually called in less than an hour they were supposed to be here and cancelled. They're not real high on my list on people to call again. Maybe it's a classic case of overbook or over promise and under deliver. I trusted them. We don't own the house, we're coordinating with out Realtor based on their availability to get all these inspections done. They never really did anything for me. They were about the same ballpark as all the other chimney companies I looked at. It wasn't way out of line. Every time I called them, they would call me within a couple of hours, they were fairly responsive.

They seem very thorough and did a very good job. Everything came out great!

When we bought our house last year, we knew that the chimney would need to be fixed sooner than later. After reviewing numerous companies on Angie's List and talking with our neighbors, we contacted Capitol Chimney via the $110 cleaning/inspection combo. We were able to get an appointment a few days after the initial email. Upon arriving, the two-man crew immediately noted the external issues with the chimney- the top 20 rows of mortar needed to be completely redone and some bricks replaced, in addition to replacing and making watertight the top of the flue (they provided us with pictures of everything, walking us through what needed to be done). They also did a thorough job cleaning and examining the internal parts of the chimney. To their credit, they said that the liner was in great shape (saved us $1900), but the original damper from 1940 had gotten corroded and would need to be replaced/updated. After thoroughly cleaning the chimney and putting in a new damper, we quickly set a date for the next crew to come and do the external work. Two weeks later, the next crew showed up with scaffolding and did all repairs without any issues. After 5 hours of work, it looked like a new chimney! Thank you Capitol Chimney for all of your hard work and responsiveness. We look forward to finally being able to use our fireplace for years to come!

Owner and assistant showed up very punctually and performed inspection and cleaning of chimney very professionally. Owner was extremely informative and explained about need to replace flu damper mechanism and also the need to install new stainless steel flue liner along with replacing masonary crown. Total costs were reasonable but out of our budget at the moment. Will use Capitol to get work done when we have the funds. Whole experience was very honest and reasonable.

Tried to schedule the service a couple of times, and the company called at the last minute to reschedule twice. Once they come to perform the service all went well. No mess left.

Two men arrived right in the middle of us packing up our house to move, and they dealt with it fine. We had expected to have a chimney cap installed, but our chimney would have involved something more extensive and didn't need one, since we have never had any problems, so the workmen offered to clean both chimneys instead of just one for the same price.

All went smoothly. It took a couple of days to schedule. They responded via Angie's List and, I didn't anticipate that so it took us a few days to connect. I ended up calling them to schedule it. But, once scheduled, Abraham arrived on time, quickly performed the service; acknowledged some additional issues that we should be aware of regarding cracking and separation that could cause leaking in the future. He took pictures of the work before; after and of the areas that he observed may need fixing in the future. That was very helpful to feel comfortable about the service performed.

They did a fine job. It got a little messy but they did clean it up. Part of the job was supposed to be an inspection of the outside of the chimney, but they said my roof was too high and they didn't have a ladder high enough. I mainly wanted the chimney cleaned, so I didnt really care.

They showed up and did a very nice job. I liked that they showed up because the first person didn’t show up. I wasn’t there that day but I know my husband was happy.

The masons worked efficiently and were very professional and clean. We had gotten multiple other quotes from other companies for the same or similar work that were much higher, so we were pleased that the final work looks good and appears to be functioning correctly. One thing that was not ideal is that it did take some additional visits to resolve some minor problems with the work (crooked flue tile, damper leaking into the fireplace). The crew came back at least twice to deal with those problems. Each time they were polite and correctly addressed the problems. Roger, the owner, was also helpful in explaining things and getting the problems resolved. We were pleased with his responsiveness.

It went ok. They proposed more work they said needed to be done. It cost more than expected.

Unfortunately the provider does not service Damascus MD therefore no services were rendered. To bad as it was a great deal for the service they would have performed.

Purchased a chimney clean as part of a Big Deal in February 2015. The company never contacted me after the purchase. Several months later, I called to schedule service and they came out in June 2015. They gave me a service window and they arrived on time. On arrival the team reported they would not be able to clean the chimney due to the chimney flap being non-standard and supposedly "unremovable". I thought that was ridiculous and took a look myself and noted that it could be removed using a wrench. When I reported what I saw, they were hesitant to respond and clearly wanted to leave. They eventually decided that they should try, but their tools were very inadequate. They did not have the appropriate wrench and resorted to using a chisel to bang out the bolt. Finally, they removed the flap after breaking it. The cleaning went well after that and they let me take a look again and I verified that it was much better. They gave me some estimates for additional recommended work and then left.

Two men came and one did the actual sweeping and gave me a rebuke (much needed!) that it was quite dirty so I needed to do better at cleaning it every year. I think I had skipped a year. I also probably burn too many paper products. The man that gave me the estimate of the masonry work on the exterior was very professional and seemed to know what he was talking about. HOWEVER, I decided that the price was more than I needed to pay for just masonry work and opted not to do it. It was about $2,500 per chimney because it has started to deteriorate. Maybe it was fair, but I got a mason out to do it for much cheaper. I was very happy with the sweeping though.

They were very pleasant. I don't know much about chimney sweeping but it seemed like they did a thorough job. They cleaned the chimney, also cleaned it from the roof, and cleaned up any ash/ mess. They let us know of the chimney repairs that we needed, and provided us info on wood stoves since we were planning to replace the coal stove that came with our home. It was a very quick job.

There was some miscommunications and back and forth between the service provider and myself. I bought a deal for $110 for a chimney cleaning & inspection and paid extra for repairs.

Everything went well. They did a nice job. They inspected everything and gave me a few recommendations on some of my work but it's not necessary at this point so I'm not in a huge hurry to do it but they did a good job. I ended up purchasing an additional chimney cap for my furnace. They're very professional. They were put when they said they were coming and they did their work in a timely manner. They didn't leave a mess or anything like that. It was a reasonable price for the work that they did.

Chimney sweeps were prompt and courteous. They worked quickly and cleanly - the hearth and house were spotless. They explained the cleaning as well as recommendations for chimney maintenance professionally.
