The customer service at this place is horrible. I will never refer anyone to patronize this company. It took months to get an estimate, and when I did receive one, it was so expensive, I could not believe screens cost that much. Most importantly, stay away from ED... He is so rude, and disrespect. I spoke with him in order to get a break down of the cost. He is one nasty human being. To the tone of me telling him to keep his screens, and forget that I ever pursued your company. It's no way I would allow ED to overcharge me, talk to me very abrasive, rudely, disrespect me with his word selection, and then give him my money. Also, when I ask for a written proposal too include the dimensions of the screens, he refused. Screaming "why would I give the dimensions to you, so that you can call up someone else and get a quote. DUH, its called price comparing. In todays time, It's common behavior of a cost efficient consumer. Then he said that I could pay for them. I began to think, and, why would I have to do that since I were to receive a FREE in home estimate. Very Deceptive marketing and a lack of integrity from a company. You can always tell when a company is trying to rip you, they employ fast talking, rude, unprofessional people like ED... Stay away from him and his company. Go to Maryland Screens 301/432-7550.

Very difficult to reach. They don't return my calls. They came out to inspect and then it seems like if the job is not big enough for them, they just ignore the customer. Bush league operation. It's too bad b/c i like to support small business. But this business is shady and is not well run.

Unlike the other companies I contacted for this repair, they charged $65 just to give me an estimate. The guy who came out to give me an estimate was professional, but then it all fell apart. First it took a long time to get the initial estimate (for a replacement). Then it wasn't itemized. When I got the itemized bill (for a replacement) I realized that I was much better off repairing the existing door. When I asked for an estimate to do just that, I got no response. I sent several emails and even called once (left voicemail). No response.

Blaine came highly recommended by several people who have used them in the past, so I contacted them despite their many negative online reviews. I tried multiple times to explain on the phone what I needed done, but the person I spoke with brushed me off, didn't listen to what I needed done, and instead insisted that I needed to spend $65 to have a representative come to my house to give an estimate. When the person finally came, I was told that they could not do the job that I needed done. They could replace glass, but would not seal around the window. This is a 3 story high window, and I want to do the glass replacement and sealing in one go, naturally. I am really taken aback that a company such as Blaine Window Repair that installs and repairs windows can not repair glass in a ghosted window and caulk around the frame while doing so. I have now wasted 3 weeks of time (it took a long time to get someone from Blaine to even come, and they never called two days in advance to give a time of arrival like they said they would), and am now bracing to incur serious water damage from the storms this weekend.

Working with Blaine was a disaster. Although they were very punctual and seemingly knowledgeable at the time they provided the original estimate, their advice was poor, their workmanship was very poor, and whenever a problem occurred they were slow to respond and offered only partial or second rate solutions. For example, they forgot to have the factory drill the hardware holes into the door. Rather than sending it back to be done properly , they insisted on doing it themselves. This would have been ok with me, except that they didn't measure and drill it quite properly, so the deadbolt hardware was slightly misaligned with the hole for the bolt. Rather than start over which i thought would have been appropriate since i paid for the new door, i think they shaved the deadbolt hole to make it slightly larger in order to force the bolt to fit, and it has never really functioned properly. There were many similar issues throughout the process of having a window and door replaced, were a problem in the repair arose and Blaine's proposed solution was second rate. They repeatedly shirked responsibility and blamed the problem on the fact that that i was doing a repair instead of a full new installation. But they are a window repair company! And initially they assured me a repair was a perfectly reasonable option. My biggest problem, however, is that 2 years after the original repair (which cost roughly $3500) , I am again having the same problem that was the reason i did the original repair in the first place - which is that water is leaking in from the second story door i had replaced. The molding below the door is wet and rotting, and i am afraid the problem is more extensive because in the most recent rainstorm the floor by the door was wet, and we had significant water in the house directly below the door that was replaced. But when I called and asked them to come and assess the situation, it was more of the same - I was told the next available appointment is 4 weeks out and there are no exceptions - which in my mind is basically the same as saying don't involve us. Blaine had an A+ rating on Angie's list which is why i hired them. We have done extensive home projects and repairs and they are without a doubt the least professional and lowest quality work we have ever received. Choosing a copy based on yelp reviews would have been a better bet.

First I had to wait for a contract in the mail and then sign and mail it back, took over a week. They should updated their system. Then they ordered the part and that took maybe 3 weeks. The repair men were courteous. Replaced balancers but said they couldn't get latch to catch easily. Noticed the windows flew up on their own before they left, they acted like the adjusted the balancer and latched the window with a screwdriver and left. They said the latch couldn't be fixed. I didn't try opening it because I was concerned about re-latching it. It turned out the window still flew open. Home inspector came a week later when my house went under contract. Said I needed to get latch fixed and fix second window because it was too hard to open and close. Called Glass Co because Blaine had already said they couldn't fix the latch and that the other window was fine. Glass Co was able to get the latch fixed and get both windows to work properly for $180. No more window flying open.
Description of Work: Check three windows for proper operation. Said only one needed a new balancer. Had to order parts.

They were prompt, listened to my problems, knew exactly what to do, communicated an inexpensive price quote (considering what had to be done), and did an excellent job installing my replacement window. I asked them to look at another window that had a lot of molding work, which they gave me an inexpensive quote on and I will do it another time. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn they can replace sliding screen doors, I will have that done also at a later time.
Description of Work: Blaine did a fantastic job. I had a broken window, a double-hung window, and they measured the glass and ordered a new pane that fits perfectly and matches my windows. I am very pleased with their work and will gladly use them for more work, which I already have.

The installers were very professional and efficient. However, the initial window measurements were taken incorrectly for a couple of the windows, and this caused the installation to be delayed by a couple months. In addition, the Provia Concord Series screen sashes are flimsy and very awkward to use. This screen must be lifted all the way up to the upper window sash, in order to able to open the glass sash behind it, because the storm window track doesn't have any intermediary notches for securing and holding up the screen.

Blaine Window Repair came by my rental condo for an initial assessment of the job on 2/29/16. I was charged $65.00 for the initial assessment. I was told it would be a week to get the estimate back. I called back a week and a day later to get a status on the estimate and I was informed they were doing some research on a part and they would have the estimate ready that day or the next day, which would be 3/9/16. I still did not get the estimate by 3/9/16 so I called back on 3/10/16, and was told they were still doing research on the part and I would get the estimate that day or the next. Still no estimate so I called again on 3/11/16 and was told they hopefully would have the estimate ready within a few hours. In the meantime they were going to send me the estimate minus the mysterious part itemized in the estimate, and guess what, I still have not received an estimate. They told me three times they would provide an estimate the day I called and I never received an estimate or a call back explaining the situation. In addition, the technician took the broken springs and other parts from all of the window so even if I wanted to get another window repair company to do the job it would be tough for them to figure out what the replacement parts would be, maybe impossible. As far as I am concerned they now owe me $65 and some broken window parts (to have another company look into the repair).

Prior to re-cording the windows the company representative performed an imprecise swab and dye type test on one window, and he informed me that the test show the presence of lead. As a result, Blaine Windows charged me several hundred dollars extra for lead containment procedures. I subsequently had the whole house tested by a DC certified lead based paint consultant company for less than $200. . The consultant company sent paint samples taken from my house to a lab,, and the test results showed that none of the rooms in my house exceeded the EPA thresholds requiring lead containment procedures. I strongly urge you to have your house tested for lead paint by a lab and not rely on Blaine Window's imprecise swab type test. Reference certified lead based paint consultant company DC http://doee.dc.gov/lead In addition, the lead containment procedures used by Blaine Windows included the window repairmen closing themselves in each room of my house by shutting and sealing the doors and not allowing me into the rooms or able to see what they were doing in them. This was really obnoxious, and the Blaine Window estimator should have informed me of this beforehand when he was at my house to perform the swab test.

Screen replacement went smoothly. They had some unexpected difficulty with one of the windows but worked at it until it was fixed nicely. For the patio door, they found that they were unable to repair it as envisioned and that it needed to be replaced. After discussion, they adjusted the price appropriately. They worked hard and did a nice job overall.

I needed a service the company didn't provide. Instead of responding with a simple "no", they sent me an email with a suggestion as to what kind of company to call on to get my job done. I hate this place. They are disorganized, incompetent, and don't care about customers. There is always a line, and they are slow as can be, not even trying or showing they care that there is a line. If their contracting business is anything like their retail operation, I would avoid like the plague. But please, judge for yourself: 1. I called to find out if they carried "T astrigals". These are a basic part of any french door set that anyone specializing in windows or doors should know about. Even Home Depot does. The response I got was "what is a T-astrigal?" The salesperson suggested that I email a picture to him and he would get back to me in 15 minutes. So I did that. 2. Having not heard back for 4 hours, I decided to go to the store with my photo. A different person at the front counter did not know what that was either, but got the guy from the back who "knows everything." Good news, he knew what a T-astrigal was. Bad news, unless I could tell him exactly what I wanted, ie bring in the old one, he couldn't help. I explained that I needed to add the piece to an existing set of French doors installed when the house was built in 1925, hence there was no "existing part". BTW I live, and the store is located, in an area with lots of old houses. Nope, couldn't or wouldn't help. i went home. 3. 3days later, no kidding, I receive a phone call from them, responding to my email - I guess that is their idea of 15 minutes. The salesperson, the original one, said they had some in stock and some others they could order, said I could come in to the store and see what they had to use or adapt for my needs. I was pleasantly surprised, and returned to the store. 4. Showed the original salesperson the picture that I had previously emailed. He told me he would go in the back and check. Came back in about 5 minutes. "No, we don't have anything like that." Me: "But you told me on the phone earlier you had a number of things, in stock and special order, that could work." "No," he said. "I told you that we MIGHT have some things that could work" That of course wasn't true, and even if ithat was what he had said, why would you say that without checking??? I thanked him, sarcasm dripping from my voice. "By the way, you said you would get back to me in 15 minutes and it took you 3 days!" His response: "We had customers." Well, given the way they treated me, that is a problem that should correct itself pretty quickly.
Description of Work: I did not use them as a window provider, I tried to buy a basic part for a door from their retail operation.

Blaine Windows was recommended to us by our building manager and another glass repair company who couldn't do the work. Our building is historical and the old windows have non-standard parts that made it difficult for your average glass company to open the frame and replace the pane. I took the window and an existing screen to Blaine to get a quote on replacing the pane of glass and building 8 new screens. The young man at the counter wasn't the most friendly, but he was professional and thorough in his conversation with me--just not chatty. I was told all the work would be $270 and be done in about a week. That price was GREAT compared to the other quotes I got which were $550-700. A couple days later we realized one of the measurements we gave Blaine for the screens was wrong. I called and even though the work was already in progress, they recut the screen to be the proper size. The work was done that day after just 3 days, much less than the one week I was originally told. The screens fit perfectly and the new glass looks great. We are incredibly please with the quality and cost of work. Will definitely go back and would recommend potential customers to go into the shop, not call. This is an old school place and you get great service in person.
Description of Work: Built 8 new storm screens for existing windows, replaced one pane on glass in window
Since Blaine is one of the few companies that does this type of work, it took about a month to get someone to come over to do an estimate, order the parts and then schedule a day to do the work. However, it was worth the wait. Their team, Ray & Winfred, arrived on time and started immediately on my 10 windows and the re-screening of two sliding glass doors. Professional, efficient and very customer oriented described these two. Ray was so knowledgeable and make sure there was no mess around the windows when he was done. In fact, some of my windows hadn?t been open in years and when Ray finally was able to move them, it was a mess. No problem. Ray let me use his mini shop vac and I was able to remove all the dirt and dust. One of my screened doors was old and Ray had to work on it for sometime just to get it back on track and correct the ?wheels?. The door has never worked better. Can?t say enough about them. If your windows are still in good shape, but not working correctly, and you don?t want the expense of replacing them, call Blaine.

Description of Work: On 2 occasions, I have had Blaine construct new screens to match a broken old screen. For the first screen, I got their regular service, which took 2-3 weeks. For the second screen, I explained that my tenant was moving in in a few days, and they gave me overnight service at no additional price. My experience was similar to the other reviewer and I also got the feeling they want to collect $65 and do nothing thereafter. Charged me the visit fee and didn't send quote. I followed up via email several times but, no response. Finally, managed to get through and then they sent the quote asking for $270 to be deposited for parts to be purchased. I asked for that requirement to be waived as I had paid $65 and got nothing for it and also asked to speak to Manager. The Manager had a terrible attitude and asked me to very quickly tell him what the problem was like he had no time for any customer issues but, said that they wouldn't waive the deposit requirement so I took my business elsewhere as I had no confidence in them to pay any more deposits for services not received.
