Bart Outside Solutions

A few months ago, I had Bart Outside Solutions perform a roof replacement. I used the company previously for a concrete and drainage project that involved a complete reconstruction of the driveway and pavers as well as installing drains to help direct water away from the house. I was satisfied with the previous project and the lead contractor assured me that they had experience doing all other exterior home improvement services, from fencing to siding to roofs and more. The company offered a very competitive price for the roof replacement, almost a third lower than what would be considered a typical price. Normally I would think that price is a scam, but I was so pleased from their past work that I went with my gut and trusted the contractor, expecting the workmanship to be just as good. Less than three months after the roof replacement, the roof above my utility room began to leak after a thunderstorm. I contacted the contractor right away, and he offered to stop by the following morning to patch the roof. It appeared that the roofing material around the pipe above the utility room was coming off. The patch ended up being a poor attempt at covering the holes with what looked like thick white tape (pictured). I’m not an expert on roofs but that just didn’t seem like the proper fix. I then contacted a few other roofing companies to get their feedback and all of them gave me the same response: the roof replacement was not performed properly by the previous contractor and needed to be completely replaced again. Apparently, Bart Outside Solutions used the same insulation boards from the previous roof to attach a new roofing material (pictured) which was already starting to come off. I was told by the experts that new roll top roofing should never be attached to old insulation boards. In addition, all the roof installations around structures and windows were done poorly. There were pieces of the roofing material that already started popping out of corners and caulking that looked messy (pictured). I was embarrassed that my 3 month old roof was in such bad shape. I confronted Bart Outside Solutions with my findings to figure out how to handle the situation. Initially their response was very hasty and defensive, stating that they should have charged me a higher price for the roof. They offered to do the patches again but “properly” this time, but for the safety and integrity of my house I was forced to decline the offer. I couldn’t possibly trust the workmanship at that point after everything that happened. The follow up responses after that point became a series of putting off the blame and making excuses rather than owning up to their mistake of taking on a job they did not have experience in. They even went so far as to claim that we never agreed on a roof replacement to begin with even though the written and verbal correspondence with the company over the previous 9 months say otherwise and the contents of the signed contract are about replacing the roof (“replace damaged plywood, replace flashing, replace shingle roof”). Not once did they address the concerns I had about the roof itself or provide an explanation for its poor condition. I can only say that their response to the situation speaks to the inexperience and lack of maturity this business has in handling customer concerns. If you are seeking a reliable, honest, and experienced business to handle your exterior home project, I don’t think you will find it here.
