At first, Gerald did not call when he said he was going to. I looked past it as he said he had become very swamped. He made an appointment with me at a later date, and showed up on time. Gerald was very knowledgeable. He explained that the previous person had broken the flow switch, which was causing my pump not to turn on. I told him that my main concern was the major water leak. He told me he had further concerns, and that when the previous owner had installed the heat pump compressor, he had neglected to properly wire the "preheater" and did not properly seal the compressor outlet. I told him that if he felt it was necessary, go ahead and fix the other items at the same time. He told me he had to order parts, so at this visit he then collected $195 from me. I explained that this was a home warranty repair, and that I needed to make sure the repair was completed in the next week, not only so that I could use the pool throughout the fall, but so that I could turn this in to my warranty company as I was already out a lot of money. He told me not to worry. Long story short, it is now OCTOBER 22nd, 5 months after I contracted with him and paid him. My pool has now been closed down for a month. He has been out (2) more times, over the summer, and we have talked on the phone over 20 times, each time he has a new excuse why the pump did not work, and why he could not get the ONE $5 part I need to fix it for good (I had to call the mfg myself, get the contact name and phone number, and give it to Gerald, as he told me the "mfg must have gone out of business." It took me 30 seconds on google to find the mfg. Although I have refused to pay anymore money to G&S, and they have installed (2) more parts (I don't even know what they installed or the cost), the heat pump is still inoperable and spews a geyser of water when I turn it on. I have called at least a dozen more times, they stopped answering my calls and I've never heard from them since!
Description of Work: I contracted with Gerald from G&S to repair my pool heat pump. It was leaking water at the inlet side of the shell and tube heat exchanger, and after the last repair person had attempted to "diagnose" the problem (leak), they had managed to break the flow sensor. After speaking to Gerald on the phone, he told me that the majority of the work they perform is on air conditioning heat pumps, however he also worked on many pool heat pumps. He said he would be right out to look at it, as he lived just down the street from me.

During peak repair season, Scott was able to respond within two days of initial call and find leak on Friday evening. Repair was done on Saturday afternoon, needed to set overnight and unit was recharged on Sunday afternoon. G & S prefers to repair existing problems, if practical, instead of replacing expensive units meaning big savings for customers. Update: problem kept coming back, G & S could not resolve it, switched to All Home Services who replaced unit. First thing he said when he heard the story was "I thought everyone knew you can't seal this aluminum under pressure. You just have to replace them." I have talked to other people in the trade and they agree.
Description of Work: They found a leak in refridgerant line to repair A/C unit in July.

Gerald postponed his initial appointment because rain was expected that day, and he wanted to make sure moisture wasn't introduced into the freon lines. He explained that this could cause corrosion issues down the road, and didn't want that to happen to me. He kept in touch by phone until the final appointed time and called when he was on his way from his previous job. Gerald took his time, vacuum pumping the system down as low as possible before adding freon. It is apparent that he takes the time to do the job right. Gerald was very polite, and friendly, explained everything he was doing, and was happy to answer any questions I had (and I had a lot). Pricing was reasonable for the work performed. I recommend G & S very highly.
Description of Work: Gerald (the ''G'' in ''G & S'') from G&S Mechanical replaced the A-coil (which was corroded and leaked freon) on the inside unit of my heat pump. He also added an expansion valve, ignitor, sight glass, and replaced the outdoor power switch. It is SO refreshing to hear something besides, ''well, you know, these heat pumps only have a life expectancy of 7-10 years,'' and have someone who actually knows what he is doing replace only the necessary parts rather than want to gouge me by replacing the whole system. You can tell the G & S folks know what they are doing from a quick look at their website. It's extremely informative, and encourages the customer to perform what tasks he feels he is capable of, thus potentially saving lots of $$. Although not the cheapest guys around, it's worth the few extra bucks to know that G & S knows what they are doing, does the job right, and isn't trying to rip the customer off.
