 + -1 moreMr. Stanley did the estimate and met me on the property, as we are not abutting the street and I wanted to be sure he knew what area was mine (one section is shared with adjoining properties), hence I was able to meet & discuss the job with him, including the sealer used, application, etc. He gave me an estimate immediately and a rough estimate of how soon he could do the work. Once I had all estimates I chose his, as the price was fair and he seemed competent & reliable. When I had a decision we set up a date (a Sat) and he also asked me if I was willing to do it earlier if a slot was available; a couple of days later he called & offered a Thursday date which was fine. The work was done on that date. Mr. Stanley supervised and the work went smoothly, and the crew were courteous and hard-working. The drive looks good and they were quite careful about not getting any sealer on the concrete curb. The only hiccup was that they were expected at 2pm, but arrived before noon without calling ahead. I had run out to do a quick errand in the morning, and when I returned, they were almost finished! I know some contractors will not start if nobody is present on the property, but since my truck was parked off the drive and it was apparent that I had just been cleaning the driveway (the rake & blower were sitting beside the drive), it was clear that they were expected later so they went ahead. It would have been better if he had called me either ahead of time or when they arrived, but that was his decision. Overall the experience was excellent and they were very professional to deal with.
Description of Work: They sealcoated my driveway (approximately 2800 sq ft). The driveway is 2 yrs old, had not been sealed previously, and has a concrete curb along one edge.

Did have an issue with time his phone service scheduled the appointment at 2:00 pm and it was suppose to be from 2 to 3, no big deal I just called and he was only 10 minutes away. We met, he gave me a quote, we pick at day the following week to get the driveway patch and resealed. I couldn't be at home during the day and they came and did the job and it looked great. Note the coupon on Angie's list is for 1/2% off, not 1/2 off. Would recommend E Stanley again and will use this company again in the future when the need may arise.
Description of Work: E Stanley patched and resealed my driveway and did a great job. No hassles at all. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

 + -1 moreExcellent! It is very rare that one encounters a true professional and this was precisely the case. At the beginning, an appointment was set up. Mr. Stanley himself arrived at exactly the time he said he would. An estimate was provided right on the spot. Given that the other individual we contacted never even got back to us, we went with E Stanley Paving. They had told us it would take several weeks before they would be able to get to us. In two weeks, they called and said that they could come on Tuesday, August 7th. They asked if that would work for us. We said yes. On the promised day, they arrived. They completed the entire job on that day. While they did exactly what they said that they were going to do, and as stipulated in the contract, I was not happy with one part of the job. I called and asked if they could change it slightly (I wanted the entire drainage tube leading from the channel drain buried beneath that ground and have the water go into a "french drain" as opposed to running off on the ground). They came out and took a look and said that they could do that. They only charged me an extra $200 which to me could not have even covered their cost. Their response was they wanted to make certain that I was "absolutely happy with the job". The next day they came back and completed the job. The driveway looks terrific and the water drains perfectly. My recommendation is this: Don't even waste your time getting an estimate from anyone else. Go with this company and let them do the job. One final note: I had several questions that I thought of on two occasions. Both times I was able to call the company and both times someone got back to me within minutes. And both times, the individual gave me complete answers. Try that with anyone else and see how that works for you.
Description of Work: The old damaged asphalt driveway was removed along with rotted railroad ties which were along one side of the driveway. A new asphalt driveway was put down along with a channel drain. The drain was put in at my request because the existing driveway would have puddles after a rain.

However, E.Stanley called me on Wednesday morning (August 8th) and said that he had an opening that morning. He said that I did not need to be there. I came home from work and was amazed at the wonderful work E. Stanley and his crew did. They put a thick layer of asphalt that was perfectly even. They also perfectly edged asphalt with the lawn. I am very pleased with the work. Great job E.Stanley!

They promptly returned my call and came out to give me an estimate. I found Mr. Stanley to be very down to earth and fair. He did not feel the need to hard sell his services and gave me a price that I thought was more than fair considering the amount of work that had to be done. Mr. Stanley and his crew arrived promptly on the scheduled day, and had the entire job completed by lunch time. I was amazed at how efficiently they worked considering that there was a lot of demolition to do and large tree roots that had to be removed for the new driveway. They cleaned up the area very well afterwards and guaranteed the quality of the work. The new driveway looks beautiful. I would highly recommend this firm. This is the way business should be conducted. Thank you Mr. Stanley.

 + -1 moreContractor was timely. When paving there was little concern for getting the tar on the grass and flower bed line. Could have been easily avoided as they were able to avoid getting any overspray on garage door. Also, for some reason the tar they use to pave left the driveway very slippery when wet. Almost dangerously wet where we have almost slipped a couple times. Otherwise, the final outcome did provide a nice clean finish as I had wanted.

 + -1 moreErnie Stanley, Sr. contacted me by phone to schedule an estimate for the work. He arrived promptly at the agreed upon time, discussed alternatives and answered my questions. This was the basis of our agreement on what was to be done. Before he left, he provided me with a written estimate for the work. The estimate contained a summary work order of what would be accomplished: grade and level, remove dirt and grass, machine pave and power roll and compact the asphalt. It also included 2 layers of asphalt in a soft area of the drive. They also guarantee against breakup for one year. As I was getting additional estimates, we agreed that I would contact him. The estimate was both the most clear and lowest cost of those I received. I signed and sent a copy of the agreement to Mr. Stanley and he promptly called and we agreed on a date for the paving. The night before, Ernie called to say they would arrive by 10:00 and asked that I move my cars. Ernie?s son and his crew arrived between 9:30 and 10:00 to start the job. They did the work according to the terms of our agreement in a professional manner. They were careful about parking their equipment and placing their tools so as to ?spare the landscape?. The job was completed by about 4:00. Before they cleaned-up, they ran water over the drive and parking areas to identify and correct any low spots. Finally, Rick ? Ernie?s son ? and I agreed to schedule a seal coat before winter. First class experience ? estimate to completion. A great company to work with.

 + -1 moreI called E. Stanley and they did it for $1100 in a day and did a splendid job. I even got a call from Mr. Stanley to tell me they would be out if a few weeks to seal the ramp they added. I would never consider using someone else.
Description of Work: I had contracted with E. Stanley to seal my blacktop driveway 6 months ago and they did an outstanding job. This year I added a 2 car detached garage and when completed the concrete was 6" above the driveway (we knew it would be). My contractor called two blacktop people and they were $2000 and $1300 and didn't know when they could get it done.

 + -1 moreThis was a first rate company and experience from start to finish. Ernie came out promptly after our first inquiry and gave us an estimate, explaining fully what would be done. His estimate was $300 less than another local company. On the day of the job the crew worked very efficiently, removing our old cracked concrete driveway. They were extremely careful not to impact the lawn surfaces on both sides of the drive during both the removal phase and while laying the new surface. The work was completed that day and they left the work site very clean. Ernie was there throughout the day checking on progress. We could not have been more pleased and would recommend this company highly.
Description of Work: Broke up and removed existing 400 sq. ft. concrete driveway; prepared sub-surface; and installed new asphalt driveway. Returned 10 days later and seal coated the new driveway.

Description of Work: They put in 9' deep and 8-10 ' wide pathways to 7 pastures at my boarding barn. They had to work within the strict guidelines of the county. People from the Soil Conservation Office came out and inspected the project as it went on.

 + -1 moreThis is an excellent and very professional contractor. They know what they are doing, he gave us an excellent price, and we got much more than we had hoped. We are contemplating doing a patio, and if we do, we are calling Ernie.
Description of Work: We have a long asphalt driveway. We had serious pavement failure and deterioration in several locations. Ernie Sr. walked the driveway with us and we agreed on our scope of work - remove and replace failed areas with compacted base, base course in repaired areas, and then an entire asphalt overlay of 2" of asphalt. He quoted us a price and on checking I found that the price was very competitive. His company came out on Thursday. Ernie Sr. started the job and Ernie Jr. was there throughout. He owns his own equipment, truck, trailer. He had plenty of workers, and they worked hard all day. They did more base repair than he quoted, but he did not ask for any adjustment in the price. My husband and I watched the work, and it was done neatly, as described and to industry standards (I have a background in this type of work). On the end of the first day they had dug out the failed areas, placed 6 inches of compacted CR-6, rolled it and closed for the day. The next day rain was expected, so Ernie and I agreed to postpone the work until Monday. On Monday they placed 2" of asphalt over the newly installed subbase, rolled and compacted. Then they started the asphalt overlay of the entire driveway with at least 3' of asphalt. The asphalt was feathered and tapered on the edges to avoid a sharp drop-off. The edges were hand tamped. The paving was tapered to match the elevation of the driveway, lead walk and garage. I inspected the work and found one area that was low, and a few areas with some roller edges. They went back and repaired everything - no questions or problems. They cleaned the job site. The only slight blip (not even big enough an issue to call it a problem) was when a worker knocked into our garage door with a shovel while cutting out the bad asphalt in front of the garage. This left a small dent in the bottom panel. I got a price from Overhead Door to replace the panel, and Ernie agreed to deduct that cost from the project cost. No questions, argument or debate. The job was so well done, and the price so good, my neighbor got a price and had her driveway done the next day.

 + 1 moreFrom the moment I talked to Ernie on the phone - he was amazingly responsive and punctual in returning calls or e-mails. In fact - he often called me in the morning after I sent him an e-mail. Since my husband and I were unsure of some of the things we wanted, particularly with regard to the parking pad, Ernie came out to our house no less than 3 times before the job started, giving us suggestions and revising the estimate based on several choices. He happily adjusted with our work schedule for these meetings. We have an old house and the sidewalks and driveway were in horrible shape - really pitted (especially the driveway) and cracked. They did an amazing job on our long driveway and there were no extra charges even though they had to dig much deeper than they originally thought. The sidewalks and new parking pad look fantastic and Ernie was careful not to make the new sidewalk in the back too wide. He also discussed with us how to make the concrete stronger in the parking pad to make it less subject to cracking. He even thought of details like matching the brick in the parking pad with the new flagstone wall and went and bought extra dirt to fill in gaps in our hill where they had to dig for the new wall. Ernie's crew worked hard, sometimes into early evening and Saturday morning. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves, including any yard waste that had to be dug up. We also found it extremely convenient to have one company that did both asphalt and concrete. I would certainly use Ernie's company again, In fact, we will probably have them come out in the spring to top the flagstone wall off with a flat layer of flagstone. It's great the way it is, but this would be a bit more protective.
Description of Work: We repaved a 100 ft asphalt driveway; replaced the concrete sidewalk in front of the house, the sidewalk leading up to the house (including a set of 3 new steps), the sidewalk leading from the driveway to the porch that also continues around the side of the house, and put in a new narrow sidewalk going around the back of the house (replacing the ground/grass which needed to be dug up and leveled for this). We also put in a new concrete parking pad between the front sidewalk and the road (where it became impossible for grass to grow). This pad was outlined with brick that went around the whole border and included a strip up the middle. Finally - there is a landscaped hill in the front yard that leads down to the sidewalk. The old stone border was dug up and a new flagstone wall was built in front of the hill. We were having a big problem with dirt falling down into the sidewalk from the hill which this has resolved - not to mention the fact that it looks great. The crew also extended the flagstone wall around to replace an old concrete border between the driveway and the front yard.
