Tree services, tree removal, stump removal, stump grinding, firewood. Licensed Certified Arborist. No subs. Cost is determined by the job. Extra charge for after hours service.
Terrible experience and would not recommend this company to anyone at all. the price is low because Charlie does not finish his work as promised.
Description of Work: We had a tree fall down during the wind storm. Called charlie early sat morning and he came out within 2 hrs. He cut the tree down so the front door could be used. He returned later in the day to remove the tree and told me his trunk grinder was broken and he would have to come back when that was fixed to grind the trunk and remove the root system. He told me it would look like the tree was never there. 2 weeks later someone came and grinded the trunk but the root system was not touched. I called numerous times and left numerous messages but Charlie never returned my calls. My neighbor used Charlie as well and had the exact same issue. I would not recommend him of his company. STAY AWAY!

I called Charlie about the down tree after finding him on angielist. charlie arrived at my home within a couple hours and began cutting down the tree and removing it. he told me that his trunk grinder was broken and he would have to come back to grind the trunk and remove the root system in a couple days. after about two (2) week charlie returned and grinded the trunk but did not touch the root system like promised. charlie also took down a tree for my neighbor and told him the same thing and just like me, my neighbor was stuck with the root system not being touched. I dont know recommend charlie at all. this is my second review of him and since my first review he has changed his companies name from charlie seek tree service to ccharle seek tree.

I attempted to contact Mr. Seek several ways. It was rather difficult to track him down, but I eventually managed to schedule a time to meet and discuss my project. He was a tad late to our meeting, but that's understandable in this area. We started discussing things and he gave an estimate of $300 per tree. For some of the work this seemed reasonable, but there were some trees where he himself said it wouldn't require a lot of work. This lead me to wonder why I would pay $300 per tree when some required a fair amount of work while others were as simple as removing a single, small branch. Mr. Seek seemed very approachable and was knowledgeable about trees, but his pricing structure was not as well thought out as it should have been.

We purchased this property recently and noticed the previous owners had neglected the landscaping and maintaining the trees. I contacted Charlie for an estimate. Charlie showed up the next day and provided me with an estimate. I felt this was reasonable and told him to proceed with the work. He completed all the work requested in a timely manner and removed and cleaned all tree and shrub trimmings from my property. The charges were identical to his estimate. Charlie is an honest, fair and hardworking businessman. I would not hesitate to use him again and would recommend him to others.

When the Derecho came throught the Washington DC area i had a tree fall, which was blocking my door to the house. the next morning i hoped on angieslist and saw Charlie Seeks tree removal company and gave them a call after reading the reviews. charlie called me back within the hour and told me he would be to my place in about an hour. charlie showed up before the hour was up and gave me a great estimate. my neighbor needed a tree removed as well so recieved the same price as i did. charlie told me he didnt have a crew working as they had gone fishing that weekend and that he would have to come back later in the day to start the removal process, which he did. he showed up about two hrs later and started removing the section that was blocking my front door. he told me that he would come back later in the week with his crew to remove the rest. he also told me that his tree stump grinder was broken and would be back in a few days and he would return to remove the stump and the root system and promised that it wouldnt look like a tree had been there. a few days went by and the charlie and his crew came back and removed the rest of the tree like promised. as for the stump it took about a week and a half for charlie to return to grind it down. he grinded my stump and my neighbors but left the root system there. no attempts to remove the roots were made. he also didnt clean up any of the grindings to which there was about two large balck trash bags full remaining for both my neightbor and i to clean up. as for the root system its still there and even with numerour attempts to contact charlie and leaving mulitple voice mails. very disappointed in the work done. i do not recommend even tho the price is right.

I had a large tree in my front yard that was spreading roots under the foundation. I called Charlie Seek as recommended from Angies list and he came over the same day to evaluate the tree and give me a quote for removal. I was expecting a $1000-$1500, but he quoted $400 for tree, root and stump grind....unbelievable! After I pull the permits with the HOA and utilities, he came over the next day to remove the tree and tackled some huge roots. About two weeks later I noticed that some of the roots were still protruding from the soil and discovered additional ones that would have been difficult to find with the mulch. I called Charlie again and he was over almost immediately to finish off the job. Charlie is a man of his word and guarantees his work to the end. He has my strongest possible recommendation for anyone who asks.

Charlie came out and gave me a free estimate on the same day I called, and we went over what would be done. We scheduled the trimming two days after the estimate. He came a little bit late, but he did warn me that this might happen b/c he had another job the same morning. During the trimming, he called me to over (at my request) to verify that the trees were being trimmed as I envisioned. They indeed were, and he even added in some additional pruning (free) to some nearby small trees on my property. Overall, i was very pleased with Charlie's service. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: The agreed plan was to trim one taller tree and one smaller tree that were both getting too close to my home. He also trimmed two additional small trees and pulled out a small dead tree for free.

Charlie was a few days late in getting started on the job, but he called to tell us why and when he would start. Once started, he worked steadily with one or two assistants to complete the job. This was done in a matter of a few days. He was polite, respectful, and professional. Unfortunately, while cutting a large branch from the poplar, the branch dropped in an unpredicted direction and damaged a segment of our fence. Charlie was appropriately sorry, promised without discussion to repair the damage, and made good on his promise as soon as some custom pieces were available from the fence company that did the original installation. Ultimately, the fence is as good as new.Charlies is an old fashioned contractor in the sense that he does his own work and conducts his business with a verbal commitment and a handshake. He was true to his word. That's something that we appreciated.
Description of Work: Charlie removed three trees...One a vine covered wild cherry leaning perilously over our garage, one a huge dying poplar in the middle of the backyard, and the third a smaller pyricanthus (that was an add-on). He removed (rather than chipped) the cut branches and logs that we didn't ask him to leave; moved a few large cut pieces into different areas of the lawn per our request; and, finally, ground the stump of the large poplar.

Mr. Seek came well recommended by Angie's List, and when I called him he indicated that he would be able to do the work within the "couple-of-weeks" time frame we needed. He was able to come out to view the job later that day, and quoted what seemed to me to be a reasonable price. He indicated that he was scheduling about a week out and that the weather could possibly push it to two weeks. I called him several days later to have our job added to his list. I called him again about 10 days later to check on the schedule, and was told he would come out two days later. Mr. Seek and an employee arrived promptly within the 8-9 am "window" he had specified on the day of our appointment. During the course of the morning Mr. Seek brought to my attention a small, still-standing-but-clearly-dead tree which I had not previously noticed and suggested that I consider removing it before it fell, since it looked as if it might fall on the neighbor's fence. I agreed with his assessment, and we agreed on a price for this additional work. Mr. Seek is a personable man (as was his employee) and my initial impression of him as being knowledgeable in his area of work was confirmed as I watched him work throughout the morning. He knows how to remove a dead tree limb without damaging the remainder of the living tree, and makes the cut properly, leaving the branch collar intact. Along with his assistant, he felled a small tree at its base and knew how to place those cuts and to use a guide rope so as to land the tree exactly where it needed to be (in the open space between two large trees -- not on my azaleas, the fence or the neighbor's house!) I highly recommend Charlie Seek, and will use his tree service again.
Description of Work: Charlie Seek Services cut down a very large yew in the front yard of our Columbia, Maryland home and hauled it away. In our wooded back yard they removed several large broken tree limbs, 3 or 4 standing, dead, small trees and cut up a large black cherry tree which had fallen in a storm last summer. All tree trunks and large branches were cut into 18-inch lengths (for use in a wood stove) and neatly stacked in piles around the yard; the smaller branches were hauled away, as were several piles of brush & fallen sticks which we had previously amassed. The work was completed in about 4 hours.

I found Mr. Seeks business on Angie's List on Saturday and left a voice message for him, expecting to hear from him on Monday but Mr. Seeks returned my call on Saturday evening. He came over promptly to check out the bushes I needed to have removed. He said that he would return on Sunday morning to remove them and he did so at the time he stated. He was done in no time at all. I would definitely recommend Mr. Seeks to friends and family.
Description of Work: I had three thorny bushes in the front of my townhouse that I needed to have removed prior to revamping my flower bed and trying to perform a miracle on my lawn for the spring. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find anyone to perform the work in a timely manner.

I needed a total of 8 bushes removed from the front of my home. I called and left a message on a Sunday, got an estimate first thing Monday morning, accepted the estimate on Wednesday evening (after waiting for estimates from other companies to come in), and then he came out and removed all the bushes on Thursday. I wasn't there when the work was done, but when I got home the area was cleaned up. This was a smaller job than a tree service would typically do, so I was glad to have him do it at a very reasonable price.

He started on time, with a slight delay due to rain. He had a crew of three and they were done in an afternoon. Unwanted wood was hauled away, and they offered to cut some branches suitable for firewood into 18 inch lengths. They raked and cleaned branches and twigs from the yard where the mid sized tree was removed. Overall, very quick, very professional, and left us very pleased. Would recommend to others.
Description of Work: Charlie very promptly responded to our request to remove 1 medium sized tree and remove limbs from two other large trees. He clearly explained what services he would perform and costs for extras such as grinding the stump (which we did not need).

Excellent. See above.
Description of Work: I cannot say enough good things about Charlie Seek. He came referred to our small Takoma Park MD condo complex by one of our Board members who has known him personally for several years. He has a love and respect for trees, and knows how to properly trim, elevate, and remove them as needed. For us, he removed two massive 100' dead trees and we will be rehiring him shortly for property-wide tree trimming and elevation. For the dead tree project, there were many "moving parts": weather, size/scale of the massive trees, steep hillside/tight spaces, road closure, logging truck, bee swarm, returning to move fallen wood further from the road, returning to remove the 6+ tons of logs (as coordinated with a logging truck colleague), coordination with our city arborist and Park and Planning entity. If you are a Takoma Parker, he has a good rapport with the TP arborist and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning. He works well with people. He is a Licensed Tree Expert (LTE) and has what appears to be good insurance coverage ($2 million liability). One negative: He is not an emailer. He does his best communicating in person or by phone and is a little shy. Just ask him questions, though, and he will advise you expertly. Also, I don't know if this is a negative or not, but he is not a large tree company and so I cannot speak to his expertise on large jobs. Our small condo community's experience was that he provided excellent service for our property's needs and we'll be using him again! Charlie is true to his word, will work hard to make you happy, is honest (our prop mgt company erroneously paid him the full $6,500 fee before he had completed even 1/3 of the work and Charlie genuinely offered to return the check). He doesn't have any ego in it if you need him to make an adjustment or want to voice your opinion about how you think something should be done. He is about doing the job in the best way that does the best for the customer and the trees he loves. In a region abounding with mow-n-blow-hack-n-whack operators, Charlie Seek is delightfully retro to a time when tradesman and crafters took pride in understanding form and function, in yielding to nature as needed, and in the contentment found in a job well done.

The job was expertly done. Mr. Seek is low key, professional, knowledgeable and did not try to sell us on things we didn't need. Also note that another firm offered to do equivalent work for $1000, which is about $300 more that Mr. Seek's price.
Description of Work: After the winter storms, we had a number of damaged and dangling branches in our beech tree over our driveway. Mr. Seek was in the neighborhood to work on my neighbor's trees and offered to take care of my tree as well. That day, Mr. Seek and his crew trimmed three trees, including mine.

Description of Work: Had to remove a tree stump for construction purposes and, of course, the contractor needed it done THAT day. I called some tree service places from the Washington Checkbook. Charlie was available to come right away and, it so happened, was the least expensive of the estimates. He came, he sawed, he conquered the tree stump and its roots.

Charlie was recommended to me by our landscape architect. He was prompt, professional and gave his unbiased opinion about the tree and what to do about it. We did not use him as the county determined indeed the tree was on their property, not ours, and if it fell and took out our house (which it would have now that it is removed - it was completely hollow at the base) then the county would have been buying us a new house! So we did not have to hire someone to take care of this tree. But I would have hired Charlie if it had been our responsibility and I will probably need to hire him in the future.

Charlie returned my call to him, came to my home, gave me an estimate (which was extremely fair and way below other estimates received) and said he could do the work that day (which was great because the contractor needed that stump out of the way ASAP). Charlie came back with his grinder, did the work, got paid and left for another job. He was very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. I will certainly recommend him to friends, put him on our community service board, and hire him again. Highly recommended!

Charlie Seek and his crew did an excellent job removing a very large tree that was in an awkward location in our backyard. He arrived on time and when finished left the area clean of all tree limbs, leaves and debris. He was also the least expensive company we called. The next lowest estimate was $2800-$3200 to remove the tree. Thanks Charlie for a great job.
