On the day he was to start the work, he never showed up. We called and left messages for a week asking him where he was. A few days later, he finally showed up, saying he was caught up in other jobs. He took some measurements, then left. A week later, I returned home and saw that they had put caution tape around the patio. No one was there, but since I saw the caution tape, I assumed that they were coming back the next day to start the work. When they didn't come, I called and they told me they were working on another job again. I called them for the next few days, again receiving no answer. I eventually called them from a different phone number, which they answered, telling me they would come after they were done with the other job. Finally, a few nights later, Mr. Barnett showed up. He explained that he could not do the job for the amount he quoted us; he needed more money, $3000. He would be losing money if he did the whole job, including the rails, for $9000. He said that he would have another contractor come over to estimate the price of the rails. At that time, he said, we could determine whether we could afford them or not. The contractor came, estimated and determined that we should pay the additional $3000. After discussing the situation with my wife, I told him that we didn't want him to do the work anymore. He agreed and said he would meet us to return the deposit. Several days went by, and again, we didn't hear from him. I called him again, and no one answered the phone or responded to our messages. Eventually, I reached his son. He said he would give us the money back after they returned the materials they purchased with our deposit. I agreed and asked him to call me when the materials had been returned. I waited three days, then called him, waited four days more, and called again. When I finally reached someone, they said they had not yet had a chance to return the materials, since it had been raining. I spoke with Mr. Barnett a few days later, and he said he would give me my money back within the next week. When we hadn't heard from him for three days, my wife called him. The owner answered the phone acting like he was his son! She told him that she knew it was him and asked when they were planning to refund the money. He said he could not refund it in full because of the time, the materials, and the cost of returning them. We have still not received our deposit and work was never done. We are disappointed in how unresponsive they were and offended at the many efforts they made to avoid us.
