My wife and I changed our minds after hardwood flooring was installed. We were very unhappy with the durability of the product and asked that it be replaced with a more durable flooring. We did not ask for a free replacement. We were very clear that we intended to complete payment on the original contract then initiate a new contract for the new flooring. We did tell them that we would not pay the balance of the original contract (approx $2900) until the replacement flooring was installed. Our decision to install a second floor less than 6 months after the new hardwood would not have cost them anything. While they agreed that this was fair, they refused to communicate with us or schedule the job. We tried repeatedly to get them to schedule our job and they simply would not return calls. When I went into the store to speak to our salesman face to face, he said all the right things, then promptly forgot about us and did nothing. After 6 months of begging I gave up and found somebody else to finish our job. The new contractor has been paid in full. Value did not complete the job to our satisfaction. ***EDIT*** (19 Oct 2015) We were recently contacted by Value Carpet One about the unpaid balance of $2900. This was 6 months after our last contact. When I informed them that I had already had the floor replaced and they would not receive the money, they were not happy. Over the course of the next several weeks, we had the opportunity to meet with the owner/president of the company. I now believe that this unfortunate situation was unknown to him, and he expressed his regrets that we were treated the way we were. They have agreed to waive the unpaid balance. I have since updated my ratings for the company here on this site. After meeting with the owner, I feel that our situation was an isolated incident, and not a recurring issue for the company. The owner was very professional and showed me great character in owning the mistake and making it right in the end. If ever you are unsatisfied with the level of communication with a sales rep, call and ask to speak with the owner directly. I consider this issue resolved and hold no ill will toward the company.
