He said he'd be here between 9 and 1 and showed up a little after 9. He took a look at it and diagnosed the problem. He said it was an expensive part and he asked to see the manual. He pointed out that my product was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty for parts, and suggested I call KitchenAid for one of their authorized repairmen. That was very helpful, because the magnatron is over $200, so I was able to get the part replacement covered by KitchenAid. He was very professional, diagnosed the problem, and was very helpful. He was professional and very honest. He could have sold me the part and done the work and I wouldn't have known any better. It was a very good experience.
Description of Work: Had him out for a microwave repair; replacement of the magnatron.

The refrigerator stopped working and I called them to repair it. They came out immediately and explained to me what exactly the problem was and that made perfect sense. They knew what they were doing and took care of the problem right away.

They are very punctual and do excellent work and clean up before leaving.
Description of Work: We have used Landers many times for appliance repair and installation. For repairs, they will give you an estimate first and advise if repair is indicated for the age and condition of the appliance. We have purchased a new dishwasher from them, and they have been out to repair a refrigerator. This time they installed a double Microwave/thermal wall oven.

The repair man showed up at 6:45 am when my appointment was at 7:00 am. By the time I got to the door, after only a minute of him knocking, he was walking back to his truck to leave. He was rude, used the bathroom which I specifically told him not to use (directed him to the other bathroom), and left the toilet seat up. After arguing with me about payment (had a credit card on file with the company) my credit card was charged twice and not refunded for 2 weeks. About two months later, and against my better judgment, I called them to come out for an emergency with my refrigerator. I was placed on hold for 10 minutes (not an exaggeration) only to be hung up on after explaining the situation and discussing appointment availability. When I immediately called back after being "disconnected" I was placed on hold for another 10 minutes. When I asked the woman, who said she was the only one answering calls, if she remembered speaking to me 10 minutes earlier, she had no idea who I was even thought I had given her detailed information about my situation and location. I had to re-explain everything. I have never left negative feedback on anything/for anyone before....but I feel so adamantly about how unprofessional this company has been toward me that I am going out of my way to let others know. Seeing their positive feedback score on this site makes me hopeful that my awful experiences are a rarity. Still, judging from my experiences - BEWARE!!
Description of Work: Our washing machine motor died. Landers sent someone to repair it, if possible. He found that he didn't have the part and would need a few days to get a price quote on replacing the motor.

I AM SORRY FOR THE POOR RESPONSE YOU RECEIVED FROM MY CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF REGARDING YOUR BROKEN REFRIGERATOR. THAT KIND OF DELAY IN HAVING YOUR CALL ANSWERED AND THE LACK OF MEMORY CONCERNING THE FIRST CONVERSATION CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING. I KNOW AND FULLY RECOGNIZE THAT MY STAFF (AND I) CAN MAKE MISTAKES. MY TECHNICIAN FAILED TO DEMONSTRATE GOOD MANNERS AND FOR THAT I WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE FOR ANY HURT OR IRRITATION WE CAUSED YOU. THESE ARE NOT OUR NORMAL EXCHANGES WITH OUR CUSTOMERS AS THE HUNDREDS OF LETTERS I RECEIVE ANNUALLY WOULD ATTEST. I HAVE NO RECORD IN MY FILE UNDER YOUR NAME OR ANY OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT YOU IN ORDER TO RESPOND MORE SPECIFICALLY TO YOUR COMPLAINT. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO REVIEW YOUR SERVICE REPORT. WE DO TYPICALLY CALL OUR CUSTOMERS IN ADVANCE WHEN WE ARE ON THE WAY TO THEIR HOUSE. WE TYPICALLY GIVE A WINDOW OF TIME TO ALLOW FOR ANY UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAN POP UP CAUSING US TO BE EARLY OR LATE FOR AN APPOINTMENT. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME DIRECTLY IN ORDER FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO RESEARCH YOUR SERVICE HISTORY AND PROPERLY RESPOND. I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CALL. DEAN LANDERS (PRESIDENT) 410 682-3232 EXT 101

$80 service call. Launders then gave an estimate for a total of $300 to replace $20 switch. I found price to be high. I called ge service. GE stated cost should be about $50 labor plus parts. I spoke with launders service manager who state $300 is the cheapest and that the job involved. I called two appliance repairmen recommended by GE. They stated total cost to replace switch would be about $120. One of them stated it was very easy to replace and told me how. I ordered the part for $20 and replace in less than 45 minutes. I think launders may have been doing some predatory pricing. I live in a nice house and had my elderly mother in law take the service call.

I PULLED UP THE NOTES FROM YOUR SERVICE CALL. MY SERVICE MANAGER JIM CALLED YOU THE DAY AFTER OUR INITIAL TRIP TO YOUR HOUSE AND LEFT A MESSAGE FOR YOU WITH OUR REPAIR QUOTE OF $299.43 WHICH BREAKS DOWN AS $79.95 TRIP AND DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE + $30.46 PART + $1.83 TAX + $10.00 SHIPPING + $177.19 LABOR, TO REPLACE THE RIGHT REAR BURNER SWITCH ON YOUR ELECTRIC GE DOWNDRAFT COOKTOP. WHEN YOU SPOKE WITH JIM SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND QUESTIONED THE HIGH PRICE OF THE REPAIR HE EXPLAINED WE QUOTED THE PRICE OUT OF OUR INDUSTRY FLAT RATE PRICE GUIDE OR BLUE BOOK. OUR KNOWLEDGE OF THAT PARTICULAR COOKTOP AND THE WAY IT WAS LISTED IN THE BLUE BOOK LED US TO BELIEVE THAT THE ENTIRE COOKTOP HAD TO BE UNINSTALLED FROM THE COUNTERTOP AND THE TOP GLASS SURFACE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE SWITCH. THE BLUE BOOK SOMETIMES SHOWS REPAIRS FOR THE AVERAGE PRODUCTS IN A PARTICULAR BRAND AS THERE ARE DOWNDRAFT MODELS IN GE’S PRODUCT OFFERINGS THAT DO REQUIRE COUNTERTOP REMOVAL. WE ASSUMED YOURS WAS ONE OF THEM. IF WE WOULD HAVE COMPLETED THIS REPAIR AND FOUND WE WERE MISTAKEN IN OUR INITIAL ASSESSMENT AND DID NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE UNIT FROM THE COUNTERTOP YOU WOULD HAVE RECEIVED A REDUCTION IN THE LABOR CHARGE. I HAVE NOT SPOKEN TO GE ABOUT THIS BUT HAVE FOUND OVER THE YEARS THAT THEIR STANDARD PRICING IS NORMALLY RIGHT AROUND THE SAME AS WHAT IS LISTED IN THE BLUE BOOK. I’M SORRY FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDING OR MISCOMMUNICATION BETWEEN US. I ASSURE YOU WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE AWARDS AND CUSTOMER RECOGNITION FOR BEING DISHONEST. WE CALL IT LIKE WE SEE AND UNDERSTAND IT AND IF WE ARE WRONG WE ADMIT IT. IT APPEARS WE WERE WRONG IN HOW YOUR COOKTOP CAME APART IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE NEW BURNER SWITCH. FOR THAT I AM SORRY AND WOULD ASK YOU TO PLEASE FORGIVE US FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE WE MAY HAVE CAUSED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME IF WE EVER FAIL TO DELIVER EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE TO YOU OR IF YOU WANT TO DISCUSS ANY ASPECT OF MY COMPANY’S PERFORMANCE. OUR MISSION IS TO DELIVER EXCELLENCE TO OUR CUSTOMERS AND WE REALLY DO STRIVE TO DO JUST THAT DAY IN AND DAY OUT. DEAN LANDERS 410 682-3232

The problem: Maytag gas dryer- approx. 4 yrs. old- would not cool down and shut off automatically. The control dial would not cycle down to turn off so the dryer ran continuously and overheated. The technician from Landers after listening to my description of the problem said the dryer vent was clogged. He removed the front of the dryer, looked inside and claimed it was working properly, which confirmed his diagnosis that the vent was clogged. I showed him the vent outlet in the back of the house, that it opened wide when the dryer was running and that hot air was pushed out with significant force. He tested it, but continued to claim the dryer vent hose was clogged somewhere along the line. At that point, we actually pulled up the wall-to-wall carpet in a walk-in closet to give him access to the entire length of the vent hose under the sub flooring. After opening up the access panel, he could see the hose had recently been replaced and feel that it was hot to the touch along the entire length to the exterior wall, indicating that there was no clog. He simply shrugged his shoulders and again insisted the dryer was working properly and there had possibly been a bird's nest in the hose causing the problem even though I assured him the hose had never been clogged with lint or live creatures. We paid the $81.95 for the service call and as he left he told me to get back to Landers if the problem persisted. Frustrated from that experience, I contacted the company that sold me the dryer. It took longer to schedule the appt., but upon arrival the technician immediately diagnosed the problem, even before removing the front panel of the unit to check the interior components, as a faulty sensor unit inside the dryer drum. He ordered a new sensor ($13.00) and returned later to install it, which took less than 10 mins. The dryer now functions properly.
Description of Work: There was no useful service performed. The gas dryer was not working properly. I called Landers Appliances after checking Angie's List. The company representative was courteous when I called. The technician arrived on time, but ultimately failed to diagnose the problem and repair the unit.

I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE LETTER I SENT ON 12/5/08 TO OUR CUSTOMER REGARDING THIS ISSUE. IF ANYONE EVER HAS A PROBLEM WITH ANYONE IN MY COMPANY OR ANYTHING WE HAVE DONE I ALWAYS APPRECIATE THE MATTER BEING BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION SO I HAVE A CHANCE TO ADDRESS IT DIRECTLY. I HAVE A PERSONAL MESSAGE WRITTEN ON THE REAR OF OUR SERVICE TICKET WHICH OUTLINES MY COMMITMENT TO HANDLE THESE ISSUE WITH INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM. DEAR MEMBER, THANK YOU FOR SENDING THE RECEIPT FROM THE SERVICE COMPANY THAT WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR YOUR DRYER. AS I PROMISED I’VE ENCLOSED A REFUND CHECK FOR YOUR SERVICE CHARGE OF $81.95. I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT SEVERAL THINGS TO YOU ABOUT THE SITUATION AND ASK THAT YOU CONSIDER HANDLING THE MATTER DIFFERENTLY IN THE FUTURE. MY TECHNICIAN CAME TO YOUR HOUSE ON JULY 1, 2008, LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER YOU PLACED THE CALL FOR SERVICE. HE WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH YOUR DRYER. IT DID NOT MALFUNCTION WHILE HE WAS THERE TESTING THE UNIT, EVEN AFTER CHECKING THE DRYER VENT FOR A POSSIBLE CLOG, WHICH HE INITIALLY THOUGHT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. AFTER CHECKING THE VENT HE DETERMINED THE VENT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM AND HE COULD NOT CONCLUDE WITH CERTAINTY THE REAL PROBLEM. THE DRYER WAS WORKING OKAY. AS IS OUR POLICY, WE OFFER A 30 DAY FREE RETURN TRIP WHEN EVER WE CAN NOT GET THE UNIT TO FAIL WHEN WE ARE TESTING THE APPLIANCE. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED THIS TO YOU AS HE WAS LEAVING YOUR HOUSE. WE NEVER RECEIVED A CALL SAYING THE DRYER HAD STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. ON DECEMBER 2, 2008 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM YOU EXPLAINING TO ME THAT WE HAD IMPROPERLY DIAGNOSED YOUR DRYER, IT NEVER WORKED PROPERLY AFTER WE LEFT AND YOU CALLED ANOTHER COMPANY WHO WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND COMPLETE THE REPAIR. AS IS OUR CUSTOM I APOLOGIZED, ASKED YOU TO SEND ME THE RECEIPT FROM THE OTHER REPAIR COMPANY AND OFFERED TO REFUND YOU OUR SERVICE CHARGE. AS YOU CAN SEE BY OUR SERVICE REPORT FROM JULY 1ST WE DID NOT COME UP WITH A DIAGNOSIS WITH YOUR DRYER. IT WAS WORKING FINE FOR US WHILE WE WERE AT YOUR HOUSE. AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE RECEIPT DATE OF NOVEMBER 10, 2008 (OVER FOUR MONTHS LATER) FROM THE OTHER COMPANY THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART AND RETURNED 18 DAYS LATER ON NOVEMBER 28, 2008 TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUSLY PRESENTING ITSELF AT THE TIME AND THEY WERE ABLE TO MAKE A SOLID DIAGNOSIS. I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED YOU TO HAVE CALLED MY COMPANY WHEN THE PROBLEM RESURFACED AND GIVEN US THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THE REPAIR. AS IS MY INFORMAL POLICY I WOULD HAVE AUTHORIZED A FREE SERVICE CALL BASED ON OUR CONVERSATION AND AS THE PROBLEM WAS THEN OBVIOUS WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIR AS WELL. WE STOCK THE PART ON OUR SERVICE VEHICLES AND WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR ON THE SAME TRIP. ON THE OUTSIDE CHANCE THAT WE HAD USED THE PART AND IT NEEDED TO BE ORDERED OUR AVERAGE TURN AROUND TIME ON PARTS ORDERS IS 5 WORKING DAYS. A SITUATION MUCH MORE TROUBLING TO ME OCCURRED JUST AFTER WE HUNG UP I RECEIVED AN E-MAIL FROM ANGIE’S LIST NOTIFYING ME THAT SOMEONE HAD PLACED A REPORT ABOUT OUR COMPANY. THE REPORT WAS WRITTEN IN YOUR NAME. WITHOUT READING THE REPORT I RESEARCHED OUR DATA BASE AND FOUND THAT THE ONLY CUSTOMER WITH YOUR NAME MY COMPANY HAS PERFORMED SERVICE FOR WAS DONE OVER TWO YEARS AGO. AFTER READING THE REPORT I KNEW THAT YOU WERE THE ACTUAL CUSTOMER SINCE THE STORY YOU RELATED WAS EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRITTEN ON THE ANGIE’S LIST REPORT. I WAS TROUBLED THAT YOU HAD POSTED THESE REMARKS ABOUT US AND MY TECHNICIAN. WE TRY TO BE THOROUGH AND MAKE A CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS ON EVERY CALL. WHEN WE CAN’T FIND A PROBLEM WE CALL IT LIKE WE SEE IT AS STRAIGHTFORWARD AND HONEST AS WE CAN BE. I WISH THAT YOU WOULD HAVE WAITED TO POST ANY COMMENTS UNTIL YOU HAD SPOKEN TO ME FIRST. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE. I KNOW YOU SAID YOU WERE AWAY FOR PART OF THE TIME BETWEEN WHEN WE WERE AT YOUR HOUSE AND WHEN YOU CALLED THE OTHER COMPANY. I AM THANKFUL THAT YOU DID CALL ME AND BRING THE MATTER TO MY ATTENTION. I DO APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH YOU. I TRUST THAT MY HANDLING OF THIS SITUATION SPEAKS LOUDLY OF THE INTEGRITY WE BRING TO THE MARKET PLACE. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL ME AND I’D BE HAPPY TO DISCUSS THIS MATTER FURTHER. They came out first time, and said they would have to look at the LG service manual online. They called back promptly, and said the control panel would have to be replaced. Part was ordered. Service was prompt, and punctual. People were very polite. They called to say they over charged me by accident, and agreed for me to write a new check. All in all, a pleasant experience and good work.

The clothes dryer was taking too long and many cycles to dry the clothes. The technician was scheduled in good time, arrived promptly and was very friendly. I was embarrassed to be told the problem resulted simply because the hose in the back was not straight and air flow was not as strong as it could be. No parts were needed and the tech simply straightened it back. He had to charge over $100 just for coming to the house.

Very well. Our washing machine began having problems, including a bad odor. We called Landers Appliance to come to our home to diagnose the problem and to repair it. The repair team came the following day at the time we were told they would be coming. They gave us a detailed description of the problems they found with our washing machine and their recommendation to invest in a new washer rather than try to repair our current one. They were courteous and helpful with my questions.

Water entered washer after spin dry cycle was completed. Service man, John was knowledgeable about old equipment, quickly fixed leakage problem in washer. Water missed ice cube tray and poured into ice bin forming a solid block of ice on the bottom with a few connected cubes on top. John thought he could fix the problem by adjusting the fill tube. When that didn't work, the company ordered replacement ice-making mechanism, which John installed. Ice-maker is now working. I appreciated his attempt to solve the problem at first by a simple adjustment rather than immediately saying the mechanism had to be replaced. The time between visits was two weeks. I am pleased with all aspects of the jobs.
Description of Work: Replaced fill valve on a 30-year-old Maytag clothes washer. Adjusted out-of-place fill tube for ice-maker on 12-year-old Subzero refrigerator/freezer and, when that didn't solve the problem, on a second visit, replaced ice-making mechanism.

I have 15 year old Kenmore washer. The knob you push in and turn to select a cycle/start the machine broke. The star like gear wheel on it seemed to be stripped. I was able to start my machine using a pair of pliers to push in and turn. Having gotten tired of the pliers, I called Landers and explained the problem to me. The receptionist said she couldn't schedule me until she checked with the parts people to see about part availability. She then transferred my call to parts for me to explain it them. They explained that the part was $29. it would be $89.95 to come out (their listing says no travel fee) and then $102 to do the work. I questioned what the $89.95 was covering if I was spending $102 to do the work. I was told that $899.95 covers coming out (I'd call that a travel expense) and analyzing the problem. I asked the parts gentlemen what analysis; I had told him what happened and he knew what part was needed. He said it didn't matter it was still going to cost me $200 plus part. So I opted to call someone else on Angie's List. I explained the problem to Eric at My Appliance Guy. He asked if I was even a little bit handy and then told me where to and get the part and how to put it on. I paid $29 for the part and spent about 90 seconds putting it on. Eric saved me $200. Thank you Eric. Take a hike Landers!

ONE THE FIRST TRIP (5/20) WE DETERMINED THAT THE FREEZER DOOR HAD BEEN LEFT OPEN WHICH CAUSED A LARGE FRONT AND ICE BUILD UP ON THE EVAPORATOR COIL BEHIND THE FREEZER WALL PREVENTING COLD AIR FROM CIRCULATING. WE RECOMMENDED THE CHEAPEST WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WAS TO DEFROST THE UNIT BY TAKING THE FOOD OUT, LEAVING THE UNIT UNPLUGGED WITH THE DOORS OPEN FOR 24 HOURS. WE RECEIVED A CALL ON 5/22 REQUESTING SERVICE BUT THE CUSTOMER CANCELED THE CALL. I'M NOT SURE THE REASON WHY THE CALL WAS CANCELED. WE RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL ON 5/29 THAT THE REFRIGERATOR WAS STILL NOT WORKING WELL. WE RETURNED THE SAME DAY AND FOUND THAT THE ICE AND FROST HAD NOT BEEN TOTALLY DEFROSTED/REMOVED FROM THE COIL, WHICH IS NORMALLY DUE TO NOT LEAVING THE DOORS OPEN AND/OR NOT LEAVING THE REFRIGERATOR OFF FOR THE FULL 24 HOURS. WE DISASSEMBLED THE UNIT AND CLEARED THE REMAINING FROST AND ICE AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE AS A COURTESY.

Our refrigerator/freezer was not holding temperature well. We called Landers, and they came promptly the next morning. The technician quickly noted that the problem was years worth of dust/grime had clogged the grille near the condenser fan, restricting airflow. He calmly explained that this caused the condenser to overheat, and as a safety precaution, it shuts down. Thus the warmer temperatures. (He was noted that the area should be cleaned out twice a year, and was tactful and polite in not being visibly alarmed at how dirty it was!). He cleaned the entire condenser area, checked pressure and within a day, the system was back to normal. He also explained that if the system didn't recover within a day or two, the condenser would need to be replaced or a new refrigerator would be needed. At no time did he try to pressure me to buy anything. He genuinely wanted to get this fixed as quickly and cheaply as possible, and took great care to get it done right.
Description of Work: Repaired our refrigerator/freezer by cleaning the condenser and fan grille that had become clogged with dust/grime.

They were able to schedule a next day appointment. There was no problem with me calling the morning of the appointment and adding another appliance repair. The repairman was on time, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He knew exactly what he was doing and explained the problems and repairs to me. The whole experience was a pleasure, especially after dealing with a less than professional company previously. (I should have checked Angie's List first!)
Description of Work: Diagnosed and fixed dishwasher problem. Diagnosed and fixed oven problem.
