Kyle Hodges, the owner and sole proprietor of Azaleas to Zinnias, has been affiliated with the company for nearly 15 years. Throughout those years he has developed a wide-based knowledge of everything from plants, plant and hardscape design, natural stonework, pavers and water features, just to name a few, through avenues not limited to hands-on and in-class training. He strives hard to incorporate our clients' wants and needs into designs, as well as educate and guide clients to choices best suited to their individual properties. His enthusiasm for developing long-term client relationships really shows.
Richard Wike, the founder of Azlaeas to Zinnias, started the company in 1989 and now works as a consultant. We are experienced in all phases of garden design, installation, lighting, hardscapes, maintenance, and container plantings. No project is too small, and the attention to detail and customer wishes are evident in all our work. Succession of color of flowers, foliage and textures is an important feature that we incorporate to make our gardens unique. In addition, we like to form a collaborative relationship with a client that can last years through garden transitions and changes.
We love what we do ...And it shows!
Kyle did a small drainage project for me back in March and did an outstanding job. I since just utilized his company for a major landscaping job. His team showed up (on time) and completely removed all of my existing shrubs bushes etc. and re-planted everything from scratch including mulching, cutting new beds, planting trees and burying the remaining downspout and installing a French drain underground. He also installed lighting that I purchased from Home depot. My experience with Kyle was so positive that he has a customer for life. He is so polite, professional and responsive that he exceeded all my expectations. Besides that he does great work!! There?s nothing that he doesn?t know about landscaping and can do it all no matter how big or how small. Kyle has an outstanding attention to detail and is an honest fair person. My wife and I are so pleased with him and his company?s work that we are planning to use them annually for refresher landscaping. His staff is also extremely knowledgeable and polite and professional. In today?s word we all have choices with who to do business with and we all want to do business with people we genuinely like. Kyle and his team are just those kinds of people. How refreshing it is to find a service provider like this. Keep up the great work!!!
Description of Work: Drainage, landscaping and instalation of lighting that I purchased.

Kyle Hodges is the owner of Azaleas to Zinnias. Kyle is a personable young man who is dedicated to providing excellent service to his customers. Kyle has about a dozen experienced landscapers working for him and they are all American. On my job, Michael was the lead landscaper. Michael has at least seven years of experience and he is very knowledgeable about landscaping and planting. Michael was easy to work with, took suggestions and was always trying to please the customer. Prior to the landscaping, I met Kyle three times and together we developed a landscaping plan. Kyle is very knowledgeable about trees and plants and he freely offered advice on plants and landscaping design. Since this was design and landscape job, I did not obtain competing quotes from other landscapers. Based upon my experience with other landscapers, I had reasonable idea of what the job should have cost. And Kyle was in the reasonable cost range. It took Kyle and his landscapers a total of ten days to complete the job with several days of rain delay and a weekend included. Overall, I was pleased with job that A to Z performed and I would recommend A to Z to other customers. Update on 9/26/2014 We had a Himalayan Cedar, a Forest Pansy Redbud and two Hinoki Cyprees trees die in the first year. Kyle honored his one year plant warranty and replaced all the trees. Kyle is a man of honor and integrity.
Description of Work: Cleared and landscaped approximately 3,000 square feet of area. Planted four larger trees, dozens of shrubs and over a hundred small plants. Installed a french drain on a wet portion of the yard. Installed a brick border on the landscaped section.
Our yard requires a Spring and Fall clean up along with a lot of other work. We searched for many years to find a company that we could rely on and that would deliever what was promised. This will be our second year working with Kyle and now we use his company exclusively. They are a great group of guys. Each one of them wanted to make sure we were happy. They are one of the best companies we have worked with. We can not recomend them enough.
Description of Work: Pavers, Mulching, Weeding, Pruning, and anything else we asked.

I contacted Kyle and he promptly came out to look over the property for the regrading and regrading and rerouting the waterflow from two downspouts. His estimate was better than the others I received and he was very willing to answer any questions I had. His team came out and cut the sod, regraded the lawn and house and rerouted the downspouts all in one day. They were very careful to put everything back and clean up any surplus dirt. They did such a good job, I had them back to mulch the two large flower beds and the regrading around the house. Again they were very professional and completed in one day. No mess and on time!
Description of Work: I had some regrading done around my house, had part of the lawn regraded and had two downspouts buried and run to the back end of my property. I also had weeding and mulching of two large flower beds and the regrading around the house.

Kyle is very professional. He has a pleasant demeanor and is very easy to work with. Before he started, he had me confirm the placements of all the plants. After that, I had to leave to run an errand so I left them to do their work. When I returned, I was more than pleased with what I saw. They actually did a little more work than what was expected - that is EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I have plans to do more landscaping projects in about a month, and I'll definitely be calling on him and his team for all of my future landscaping projects.
Description of Work: Kyle and Brian installed shrubs and plants in my front yard. They installed 2 shrubs that will grow to be medium size, 6 smaller shrubs, primroses, mulch and removed pavers from an old patio.

I've hired Azaleas to Zinnias once before and was happy with the work and professionalism, so including them in my estimates this go around was a no brainer. I originally had an estimate for taking down the front retaining wall and installing a better looking one. The owner came out and gave me some good ideas and an estimate for three options. I had planned on having the back patio done this season but it slipped my mind when he was out for the wall estimate. I called a couple weeks later and asked him to come back and assess the yard. He was friendly and didn't make me feel like I was wasting his time by coming back out. I had three estimates done and A to Z was comparative to one and much lower than another. I felt comfortable picking them because of the work they had done landscaping my front and side yards last season. When he came out I told him my budget and what I'd like done. We discussed a couple different options and when I received the proposal, he actually came in under budget and that allowed me to add a few more feet to the patio. He had a great catalog with stone ideas and some pics of other projects on an ipad. Clearly, I hired them for the job. They showed up on time and worked through the day. I was happy with the progress they made that first day. The old patio and garden beds were gone and a huge hole was dug for the new patio. The next day was much the same. They just showed up and started laying the base for the patio. There was a couple days delay due to weather, but that is expected. I think they finished pretty quickly and now I'm just waiting for warm weather so I can enjoy it. I said this in my last review and it's still true. These guys are professional and you can tell they have pride in their work. They showed up wearing their company logo, worked hard, were friendly to us and did a great job. I never saw them sitting around or neglecting the job. My dad, who can never be pleased, had the same opinion. Lastly, in addition to a great bunch of guys, the owner is great as well. I changed my mind about a couple(or 30) things during the process and he was very receptive and accommodating. I sent quite a few emails and even called a few times and he didn't mind. He just answered my questions and provided a solution. One of his guys mentioned to him that the seed and straw had been blown around and was sparse in places and, on his own without my prompting, came out and put some more down. This was after the job was complete. Great service oriented company.
Description of Work: I had a 15X19 patio installed in my back yard. This included removing an existing patio, two gross garden beds, digging down a few feet and hauling away a ton(if not more) dirt to properly install the new patio, and installing french drains to route water away from my house. In addition to this, I also had three areas in my yard cleared out. Two sort of garden areas, one that had a semi-circle stone set up around it and one that was overgrown with vinca. My yard consists of a flat area that leads up a decent hill and the guys graded it appropriately to make a natural transition. It looks great. They repaired a damaged retaining wall that was partially knocked down by a truck a few months ago.

They arrived exactly when they said they would, worked continuously with no goofing off. Kept the work area clean. Took their time when fitting the lumber in place to ensure each piece fit correctly and fastened everything securely. The yard was left at least as clean as when they started if not cleaner. The result was exactly what I wanted and what they said they would deliver. The crew were very professional in their work and knew what they were doing. I originally observed these guys when they were doing a job for my neighbor and noticed how professionally they did the work. That prompted me to choose them for the retaining wall job. I will be using them for any future landscaping work.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced a 62' retaining wall in the backyard. Used 6x6 lumber, perforated drain tile, drain fabric and gravel behind wall, regraded and seeded disturbed areas.

Excellent experience. Kyle and his team were extremely attentive and polite. When the work was complete, they left my yard in great condition. There were a few stepping stones that needed to be moved once they were in place. Kyle was helpful and easy to work with and his calm way of handling a difficult job was a huge mark in his favor. His team even planted a bush I had purchased for the new garden!

Kyle showed up exactly on time for the estimate and after showing him my yard and explaining what I wanted done he said that he would look it over, take some notes and email me the estimate. After receiving the estimate, I let Kyle know that I would like him to perform the work. Kyle and his crew showed up the morning of the job and started to work. They were very careful in protecting my new concrete (covering it with a drop cloth). There were 4 guys working and they got right to work and cleared away the trees and weeds and dug up the stumps. They loaded everything on the truck and hauled it away. Then they brought in 3 yards of topsoil and spread it around the yard and leveled it out. They also planted 6 ornamental grasses and planted them along the back fence and then mulched the whole area. There was also a small garden to the right of my shed and they cleared away the weeds and mulched that area also. Once everything was cleared and mulched, they seeded my whole yard and covered it with hay. The workers were very professional and courteous, before they left they had me go out and see if everything was done to my satisfaction, which it was. I asked if they were going to spray the lawn that was not seeded for Nutsedge Grass and he told me that Kyle was going to come back and spray it and he did, he came back on Monday and sprayed and left the remaining spray for me. I was very happy with the work and would reccommend them to friends and family and would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: I had an above ground pool replaced earlier in the summer and needed the yard around the pool graded and seeded. I had a few dead trees and lots of weeds growing along the back fence and I also had some stumps that needed to be removed and a few shrubs that needed to be removed.

It went great. I had a bad injury in the spring that prevented me from doing any sort of yard work all summer. It was a mess and I decided I needed to have it done professionally or wait another year. I called Azaleas to Zinnias to schedule a consultation. I always get 3 estimates for any work I have done. A very polite and friendly woman(whose name I can not remember) answered and after chatting with her for a few minutes about what sort of things I wanted done she said she would have Kyle Hodges call to schedule the appt. He called quickly, I believe the next morning and the appt was scheduled a few days from then. Kyle showed up on time, was friendly and had a professional appearance. That may sound silly, but it always makes me feel better when a person respectfully represents his/her company and is knowledgable and kind. Customer service is a high selling point for me. He was easy to talk to about what I wanted done and offered some suggestions. This was the week before labor day so, understandably, quite a few days had passed before the estimate was received by me. When I did receive it, I was surprised by the affordable price as my other two estimates were quite a bit more for less work. And the plants are guaranteed for a year. I wanted to add the removal of the flagpole and gateposts, so I called the office again on Saturday the 8th and spoke with Mr.Wike (again, another friendly knowledgable voice) to see how much that would cost and to give the go ahead for the work to be done. He told me I would hear from Kyle early this week. Well, to my great surprise and joy, when I pulled into the driveway after work this Monday the 10th, the work had been completely done. I thought I drove into the wrong driveway, it looked so clean, pretty and fresh. I called the next morning to let him know what a great job had been done and to ask about two little issues I had. He was very obliging and came out today(the 12th) bright and early and addressed the issues. Such a quick and efficient response. I have a couple holiday events at my house each year and now I don't have to worry about the jungle that used to be out there. I plan on having a patio and landscaping done this late winter/spring to my back yard and I won't hesitate to hire AZALEAS TO ZINNIAS for that project as well. Thank You Kyle and everyone at A to Z.
Description of Work: A to Z did the following: Removed three unhealthy and wildly growing rose bushes Removed a huge overgrowing bush that was growing into my neighbor's yard. They removed a flag pole, iron arbor and two gate posts. 3 large garden beds were weeded, mulched and planted with Knockout rose bushes, Nandina golf stream bushes and May Night. Placed beautiful stone trim around one of those flower beds.(The other ones didn't need it) 2 very small garden beds around a lamppost and dogwood tree were weeded and mulched. Weeded and eliminated a stone trimmed 6th garden bed that must have been planted in 1970. Trimmed two ever green trees and shortened them a bit so now they aren't growing into my porch. Installed a gorgeous mulch garden extending from right front side of house around the corner to the actual side of the house and planted two cherry laurels to take the eyesore away from my AC unit. Driveway and all sidewalks/walkways edged. All hauling and clean up was done.

Kyle came out to the house, talked to us about what we wanted and then presented options along with his recommendation. He left the book of paver options with us to talk over and then waited to hear back from us. We got several quotes to compare and believed that Azaleas to Zinnias had the best knowledge, options and experience. Their Angie's list recommendations played a part in that as well. When we were ready to have the patio installed, we called Kyle and scheduled the appointment. Kyle ordered the pavers and gave us an approximate date for installation. He even called when the job before ours ran over to tell us he would need a little more time before starting our project. When the job started, Kyle had already marked off where the patio was going to go. It was so nice not to have to take time off of work to get our patio installed. Arriving home from work each night, we were excited to see each stage of the patio. The crew left the job site neat and clean each evening and when they were done, they seeded the bare spots and put hay on top. In about a little over a week, the patio came together. It is just beautiful. We bought a table to put on it and have relaxed out there several times. Our neighbors have commented how perfect it is with our house and deck. It looks like it always should have been there.
Description of Work: We had a 10x10 patio built in our backyard (with a bumpout for a grill) and which had a 3' walkway to our existing deck. It was built with E.P. Henry pavers in a herringbone pattern with a separate color/ style border. Our backyard has quite a slope to it, so Kyle had to build up the ground to make everything even.

Kyle's company was one of three that we received quotes from to regrade soil away from our home's foundation (on two sides of the house) and add a flagstone footpath along a side of the house. We went with Kyle's company based upon our impression that he had the best balance in terms of price and technical expertise. Kyle came out with a crew of seven guys to complete the job. This entailed digging out an old, collapsed terra cotta drainage system along a side of our home that was no longer operational, and replacing that with a french drain, in addition to another french drain on a connecting side of the home (resulting in french drain coverage on two sides of the perimeter of the home). His team tied our downspouts to the french drain system. He supervised the work the entire time. He also went above and beyond the basic job on hand. For example, Kyle was kind enough to do a couple of additional things while he was out at our place:1. After I saw the terra cotta system they pulled out, Kyle was kind enough to oblige my request to cut up (with an electric saw) pieces of that terra cotta system so that I could convert that into little pots for plants (my little way of retaining a piece of history of our newly acquired home).2. I was also concerned that one of the gutters along another side of the house was backed up. He checked it out and was able to test and confirm that that gutter was in fact operational, in addition to showing where the water exited too (the pipe for it had been buried into the ground and egress quite a distance away from where last sight of it was prior to going underground).3. He also left us with the flagstone leftover from the footpath that added, so that we could use it in another part of the property. A business is only as good as the people behind it. My husband and I were so impressed with the caliber of Kyle and his team that after they left, we called Kyle to tell him that we wanted to give him and his crew a small bonus as thanks for going above and beyond in the project. We plan on using them again for landscaping in the future and could not recommend them more highly.

Kyle came out to look at our yard and take some measurements to give us an estimate on a stone paver (Techo-Bloc) patio. We got an estimate and sketch from Kyle about a week later. His design was good, and his price was really fair. He was professional and friendly, and he listened when we discussed what we wanted, and made informed and useful suggestions when necessary. Ultimately we went with someone else for the design (it wound up differently then our original direction), but Azaleas to Zinnias was definitely a close second. Don't see any reason to not give a positive report!

I have had several bad experiences over the years with landscapers in general, and finally found one that I was truly satisfied with. Kyle was friendly, professional, listened to what I wanted, gave his opinion, and worked with me to stay within budget. If we had an issue, or wanted something else done, he got it done. The quality of the work was excellent. We had A LOT done and it was pricey, but their prices are very comparable to the other 4 quotes I received before deciding on going with Azaleas to Zinnias (their prices were actually one of the lowest). Plus the general experience was well worth every penny! Overall, we are extremely satisfied and will use their service in the future!

Crew arrived at exactly 8:00 a.m., which was the time agreed upon between myself and the company. The three individuals were very professional and did not mind me asking questions about the work to be performed. All work listed on the estimate was completed and then some. If they saw something that needed to be done (one tree needed pruning), they automatically did the work. I was very satisfied with the company and am expecting to use them to maintain the backyard and complete my flower beds in the front in the ball.

My flower beds and landscape were out of control with weeds and all needed mulch. I have learned over the years that where the mulch comes from is very important: some mulch is full of weeds. A to Z gets their mulch from Holland's Organic which is very good mulch. They weeded and edged all my beds and then put down 15 yards of mulch. Brought a team of about 4 -5 guys and completed the job in a day. It would have taken us weeks just to put down 15 yards of mulch. They hauled a truck load of weeds away. Their estimate and price was equal to 1 other estimate and less than 2 other estimates. They are very prompt and professional.

We were very happy with the design, service and end product. Returned promptly to weed an area that they had mulched. It went very well. Four people worked hard all day to complete the job. They did a great job of planting and cleaning up, and made a nice stone border I hadn't asked for but loved once it was finished. They were very good about replacing some of the plants that died over the past year. In fact, they just replaced two of the skip laurels--and I was grateful that they gave me the bigger plants so that they are even with the ones that survived. I didn't expect that.
Description of Work: I hired Azaleas to Zinnias to landscape my small backyard, which had all but died. They removed dying hedges and replanted Skip Laurels and Miss Kim lilacs to replace them, as well as some daisies, black-eyed Susans, and purple coneflowers. Also planted a crepe myrtle tree and some periwinkle groundcover.

Kyle was among 5 bidders for our job. His price quote was right in the middle of the pack. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive. However, the detailed estimates he provided to do the complete job made them the clear winner. (The lower bidders were unrealistically low, and in some cases, skipped important details such as installation of drainage, so we weren't inclined to hire them). Kyle set a start date, and showed up with a team around 8 am every morning for the next 3 weeks of the project. All materials were delivered on time, and they took care to insure that the big delivery trucks did not damage the driveway or surrounding lawn (which has underground sprinkler heads that can get crushed by large trucks). Everything went smoothly, but took about 1 week longer than estimated due to a national holiday and several days of intense rain storms. (They did work in the rain, albeit a little slower due to the muddy conditions). They cleaned up the area every day after work. After the walls and walkway were installed, they reseeded, threw down straw, and remulched the landscaping beds. All in all, it was one of the most pleasant home improvement projects we've done. The only minor glitch was an error in the price estimate for the engraved property sign which was being fabricated by another company. When the price came in several hundred dollars over the initial estimate, Kyle immediately volunteered to cover the cost overrun. In the end, we were so happy with the sign that we split the difference. Also to be commended are Kyle's team of young workers. All were polite, well spoken, well trained, knowledgeable, and eager to discuss the status of the project or any minor issues I found. Kyle was on site most days, but when he wasn't here, I felt that the project was still in good hands. Everything looks fantastic. We plan on having Azaleas to Zinnias back early next year to install plants and shrubs.
Description of Work: Azaleas to Zinnias replaced rotting landscaping timbers with stacked stone walls (including drainage behind the walls), installed a bluestone walkway, installed a lighting system, and replaced a property sign with a new engraved stone sign. Project included all demolition and disposal of trash, and the relocation of several plants and shrubs to accommodate the work.

Kyle was great. He came over and we talked about what we wanted. He made some good suggestions but he wasn't trying to lead us. Afterwards, he called to inform me of days he could make it. he even called to inform me of a mishap with his vehicle. Each day Kyle worked hard, slowly transforming our back yard into what we had pictured. Kyle has show very good manners and he was great with communications.

I found them on Angie's List website and they are absolutely fabulous. I have recommended them twice already.
Description of Work: I used Azaleas To Zinnias for landscape services.
It went great! We first called for an estimate in the spring, and Kyle came out to meet with us and then provided an estimate along with photos of other work he had done that was similar to ours. However, a few other things came up and we delayed the project. When I called back a couple of months later, Kyle easily referenced the original estimate and even came out again to talk over some changes we had decided upon for the project. All along the way, he *listened* and *advised* without being "sales-y", which I very much appreciated. He clearly has a natural respect for his customers. We scheduled the work, they arrived when expected, and worked hard the whole time. All of the guys were very nice. A small pre-existing drainage issue was concerning us and Kyle even addressed that for us with some concrete, since he was working in the general vicinity, when building the patio. From start to finish, working with Kyle and his crew was a joy!
Description of Work: Our small rowhome backyard was a wasteland...we had wood-chipped it as a play space, but it had become a mess of decayed wood chips, torn up grass, weeds and small stones left over from a DIY fire ring! Kyle and his crew dug out and hauled away all of the mess and turned our backyard into a sanctuary! They built a 14' x 10' patio made of 8" x 4" antiqued Holland pavers and set it with polymeric sand. The bricks were laid in a 45-degree Herringbone pattern and the precision and attention to detail is most impressive, considering the necessary planning of the layout and the cuts that were necessary. The project also included sodding a 10' x 10' portion of our yard, laying flagstone pavers as a path from our shed (and laying them into the sod, so we can mow right over them), and prepping and planting a flower bed in a narrow strip of yard along the fence. The was planted with lariope and blooming annuals per our request. Finally, they laid a mulch bed around our tree. Clean up was impeccable!
