Excellent work with a 5-year warrantee, at reasonable--though not cheap--prices. We contacted several companies to get estimates on remodeling three bathrooms. AES was the most responsive and, while they were not the least expensive of the estimates we received, they were the company we felt was the most professional in its initial contacts with us. Throughout the project, they responded to every question we had within 24 hours, either by email or telephone, with many of the responses coming from the company owner, Tim Munson, himself. All three bathrooms came out looking great. We will undoubtedly be using AES for future projects.

Had a sump pump installed to my exterior stairs that were flooding, new exterior door that was a custom size installed, sheetrock patched and molding installed. AES communicated well and did a great job. Would highly recommend. Good work costs $ and it was worth every dime.

AES was very professional, and a pleasure to work with. Shawna accompanied us to select our materials, and assisted with color-coordinating. We emailed often with questions and she was quick to respond. Stephen was most helpful with estimating our construction job, and ensuring that we received the best prices. AES did not do any high-pressure sales, but were very patient with us until we made our final decisions. Paul & Brian worked at our house daily for 4 weeks to complete our renovations. Their workmanship was excellent, they ensured that they protected our belongings, and they cleaned up daily. They were prompt, and very respectful. AES sent us an electrician, a plumber, and a painter. and all were very professional, and a pleasure to deal with. AES was an excellent company to work with. We look forward to contracting AES for any future projects.

AES did a beautiful job remodeling my living room with new flooring, lighting, painting and installing a new wall mounted fireplace. Dealing with the county and BGE for new gas installation permits was a pain but AES handled it. Job took a little longer than I would have wanted, but the delays were due to BGE and outside of AES control. Would recommend AES.

I would like to start by saying I researched this company thoroughly on different websites and met with a member of the company and I thought they were really going to turn out to be a great choice for my project. It ended up not being the case for me. I feel like I was treated as if my business was not wanted or needed and I am disappointed. I am still just sitting here“shaking my head” at the whole interaction. I went to a home remodeling show at the Baltimore Convention Center on Friday, February 16, 2018. I met a representative for the company that was working the booth at the show and explained that I was looking to add a porch to the front of my house. We spoke at length with someone that ended up being a designer for the company and showed him some “inspiration photos” of ideas we had in mind for the project. We showed him two pictures on a phone with crude Photoshop renderings of our house with some images of different porches we admired added to the front of our house just for a reference point. The designer gave us his card and told us to call the company to set up an appointment for him to come out and measure and discuss the project further. On February 27th 2018 we contacted the AES Customer Care department and made an appointment for the designer to come out for measurements and other information needed for an estimate. When we mentioned the “inspiration pics” we had we were asked to email them to the company in care of the Customer Care person that set up the estimate appointment. At that time an appointment was made for March 14, 2018. On March 14, 2018 at 3pm the same designer we met at the remodeling show arrived and took measurements of the front of the house. He was just as nice as he had been when we first met him. He stated that he didn’t feel one of the ideas we showed him would work because the pitch of the existing roof was too low to add dormers. He stated the second “inspiration pic” idea would work he thought. He drew some quick sketches on his IPad to explain to us why he didn’t think the dormers would work and we agreed. He also showed us a picture he had on his IPad of a porch project he designed for another customer. It was similar to what we were looking for and the house in the picture was similar to ours in the style. We really liked it. He explained at length how he would build the foundation of the porch without having to pour a lot of concrete and the different finishes we could use. He was probably at the house for about 2 hours answering our questions and explaining things. He told us he could produce a computer image for us of roughly how the porch in his picture on the IPad would look on our house--He stated he would need to do a computer drawing anyway in order to generate the estimate and he would share the drawing with us so we could get a general idea of how it would look. He told us it would take “about two weeks” to get the drawing and the estimate to us. If and when we signed a contract, work would begin approximately 90 days later because they were so busy he said. He left stating he knew “exactly what we wanted” (his words). Two weeks came and went and we heard nothing. I emailed the Customer Care Department on Friday 4/20/18 @ 12:52pm to ask how the estimate was coming along since it had been a little over a month. The same Customer Care Dept. person we set the appointment up with initially responded @ 1:05pm to say they would ask the designer to contact us as to when we could expect the estimate. I emailed Customer Service again on Friday, 5/4/18 @ 11:50am to say we still hadn’t heard from the designer. The Customer Care Dept. (same person) responded @ 11:52am to say he will let the designer know we are expecting communication from him. (No apology for the delay or anything else, just that one sentence). On Thursday 5/31/18 @ 12:32 I again emailed the Customer Care Dept. to say “I am reaching out one last time in an attempt to get an estimate. I am hoping this bad initial experience is not reflective of the company as a whole. Is there someone that can email me an estimate? At 12:42 the Customer Care department (same person I’ve been communicating with) responded saying “I will contact the designer and request him to contact you to let you know when to expect those mock–ups” (again, no apology or anything other than that one sentence). FINALLY on 5/31/18 @ 4:52pm I received the email below from the designer. He cc’d the Customer Care Dept. person I had been communicating with as well as the owner of the company. “I apologize as to any confusion with emails as I had sent you a couple emails a few weeks ago and then before that as well so I am replying to this thread. We had sat down and looked at your existing roof line and determined that because the original pitch on your roof was to low to add any kind of meaningful dormers and to connect a front porch based on that look. We felt it better to have an engineer look at what you want to accomplish and then do some structural drawings to get a proper spread and from those drawings (if it were possible) we could do a build cost and take off. The existing roof line was to low to present any kind of structural and finished look for what you wanted. Let us know if you would like the name and number of an engineer” I responded to all on 5/31/18 @ 8:06 pm. In a nutshell I said I would be interested in seeing proof of those sent emails because I never received anything from him at all after he left my house on March 14th. I reiterated the things he had done and said when he came to the house that I talked about above and said there was never a discussion regarding an engineer or anything remotely similar. I also said how disappointed I was. I never received any further communication from the designer, Customer Service Dept. person I communicated with that was cc’d on the email, or the owner that was cc’d on the email which is what has prompted me to leave the bad review. I am assuming the Customer Service Dept staff member and owner were cc’d when the designer finally responded to me because he was told to so they would know he did finally respond so I would stop “bothering them”. I can’t put into words how disappointed I am in the way I was treated by AES. I truly don’t think this behavior is typical from them based on the glowing reviews the company gets. It also appears they do beautiful work which is another reason I am disappointed. I still have no idea what the issue was but I had a horrible experience with them for whatever reason.

This is an unfortunate situation. My estimator did drop the ball on this one. He should have gotten back to the customer much quicker and communicated much better. Once the matter was brought to my attention I did make the decision we would need engineering drawings in order to do the work requested. I am very sorry this occurred the way it did and I have put programming in place to keep this from occurring again. I understand the customers frustration, and I’m very sorry it happened. Please continue reading and you will discover we really do care about our customers. We have received 38 Super Service Awards in the past 5 years. buyer beware. we had a horrible experience with company management, which is a real shame because some of their direct employees are very talented and the finished work looks really nice. significant issues we experienced with AES included: 1. lack of communication with subcontractors (yes, they hire subs) and work crews resulted in inaccurate wall framing and in plumbing that had to be redone. 2. work was finished more than a month late. (they tried to blame this on us wanting permits, yet they knew this would be permitted work before they agreed to the timeline.) 3. we were charged for work that was required by inspectors, even though our contract stated explicitly that work required as a result of inspection would not be subject to additional charges. when we asked politely about this, they ignored multiple calls/emails and eventually told us they would stop work if we didn't pay. 4. non-existent project management. the only time our "project manager" communicated with us was to request payment. he did not return emails or phone calls (unless wanting money). subcontractors/work crews showed up to our house without any idea of what they were supposed to do (resulting in aforementioned framing and plumbing errors). 5. there were many weeks when no work happened, with no explanation. they did not answer us when we asked when work could be scheduled, asked what we could do to move things along, etc. we did everything we could on our end to make it easy for them, including purchasing/choosing materials and coordinating with subcontractors. we even did the painting and tiling ourselves, on weekends, to help save time! 6. unfortunately, when we contacted the owner of the company to help us resolve these significant project management and timeline issues, he became very unprofessional: he blamed us for delays, insulted us, threatened to stop work when we questioned bills or expressed concern, and would not answer our questions about the work or the billing. he even threatened us with legal action if we didn't pay what he wanted us to pay (so stressful and unwarranted). we tried to be patient and work with him! it was just a horrible experience, and I felt I had to make others aware of this.

Unfortunately this report is not an accurate picture. First of all her comment is the finished work looks really nice. I appreciate her compliment, but I want to make sure Angie's list members get the facts of this job. First of all, we never contracted with Jennifer, of whom did not live in the house when we contracted with her current boyfriend. Yes, we have to subcontract License Plumbers and Electricians as we do not have them on staff, (I don't know of any company who have them on staff), however we have worked with the same Licensed Plumbers and Electricians for many years and we know they will produce the same quality work we desire for our customers. We chose not to communicate with this person because she is not the person we contracted with and was very difficult to communicate with and work with. We made it clear to her and the person we contracted with, (her boyfriend), that we would only work with him, and he agreed. The contract was not completed late because of permitting, but they chose to hire their own electrician, paint there basement and held us up. There were also many changes being made along the way. The inspectors did require some extra work that was not in the contract, and we only charged them cost for this work, (no profit). We never stated in the contract "work required as a result of inspection would not be subject to additional charges". We never ignored communications from the Mr. (of whom we contracted with). The work they did for themselves was not to save time, but to save money, of which we are OK with, however we are much quicker at completing the work and not having to wait for the homeowners to catch up for us. The only time we were not on the job was when we were waiting for them to complete their work. I was very involved in this project and communicated well with the Mr. of whom owned the house and we made our original agreements with. The girlfriend who moved in later was not easy to communicate with or work with. All necessary changes were discussed with the Mr. and he agreed and sign a change work order and cost. At the end of the completed work we sent the homeowner his final bill and never received payment for five months after sending several request for payments. I did let them know I would be forced to turn this over to my attorney if they did not make the final payment more than six months after were complete with the work. Thank you for taking the time to read this long response. Please continue reading our reviews and you will discover we do wonderful professional work and take very good care of our customers. We have received 38 Angie's List Super Service Awards in the past 5 years. We also received the Torch Award from the BBB for Ethics in the Market Place. Gratefully yours, Tim Munson President

AES is a truly great contracting company. We had been planning to remodel our master bathroom for a few years, and when we finally decided to do it we found AES. While we interviewed a number of contractors, AESs professionalism, experience and approach really came through. Our sales representative, David Hill, was terrific and walked us through the entire process and gave us recommendations and even went shopping with us giving us his thoughts and ideas. Our contractors, Brian and Scott were beyond amazing. The transformation our our bathroom is truly beyond what we could have expected and they were great in providing updates and giving us recommendations on what they thought would look best. They also treated our house with the utmost of respect and cleaned up very well at the end of each work day. One hiccup towards the end of the project was our vanity top was made the incorrect size, and since we had already been without a bathroom for 4+ weeks we were definitely disappointed and frustrated. Tim Munson, AESs President, worked with us to get the problem resolved and a new vanity made and installed within three days, which we really appreciated. In todays day or big box stores and companies, AES really sets themselves apart with their approach to customer service, craftsmanship and getting the job done correctly. I would highly recommend contacting AES for your next remodeling project you will not be disappointed. I know we will definitely hire them again.

One man did all the work. He only needed help to bring in my cast-iron tub. My bathroom was gutted. Tile work was done on all the wall except the ceiling. I got a new, tub, sink, cabinet. He painted ceiling and trim. I was very pleased. For what I wanted done, at the time ASE was the cheapest.

Steve the estimator and son in law of the owner came to do an estimate. After 2 weeks of waiting and phone calls to their office I still have not received an estimate. I would never hire this company if they treat you that way just for an estimate. I can only imagine how they treat you after you sign a contract. Totally unacceptable.

I investigated this matter and determined the following. On March 4, 2018, 12:48PM, my estimator emailed the customer the following: "After consulting with the office, AES is not equipped to manufacture the Customer Railings that are required for your job. Since this is the bulk of the job, it would be best to have a company that specializes in this field to do your job. We would just be a middle man in that transaction, so I would prefer to save you the money and have you work directly with them. I recommend Baltimore Railings and Stairs. You can contact them at 410-513-9977. " We also tracked that he read the email. I'm not sure what more we could have done to help this customer. We believed we were doing right thing by saving him a middle man cost. When a customer contacts us and we are unable to help them, we will recommend a company they can trust. Thank you for taking the time to read this explanation. We have received 37 Super Service Awards in the past 4 years with Angie's list and take great pride in our work, and Value our customers as #1 in our company. I have been servings Maryland Home Owners for over 28 years and we also give a 5 Year Free labor warranty when the state of Maryland on requires 1 year. I decided to check on Angie's List for only A rated companies to repair, remodel my basement after extensive water damage due to a broken pipe. My first email was answered by Tim Munson asking for my estimate from my insurance company. I explained that I didn't have one and that my insurance company asked me to get an outside estimate and bring it back to them. It then took Mr. Munson 2 days to respond only to tell me that he charges $400.00 for an estimate. He did share that if I chose his company it would be credited towards the total cost of the job. This did not leave a very good impression and I chose not to do business further with Mr. Munson.

In order to keep from being a bidder for insurance companies, we do charge a fee for driving out to look at insurance damage and taking time to work up written estimates to be sent to insurance companies. This work cost time and money. As you can see in her statement, the insurance company is having her to get companies do their work. They should have their insurance appraiser and adjuster looking at the damage to make an assessment of what needs to be done, so they can properly make sure the contractors are doing exactly what they want and also allowing companies to bid on the same work. The customer did not contact me to further discuss this matter so I could help her understand why we charge a fee, and also understand what she should be expecting from her insurance company. Please continue to read our reviews and you will see we do beautiful professional work and most customers are very please with AES. We received 38 Super Service Awards in the past four years. This company pretty much stated they did not want to do an insurance claim repair. Said it wasn't worth their time. The insurance company's appraisal was over $17K and they said if we got an estimate that was higher, they would review it and adjust accordingly. Sadly this company wanted nothing to do with making $17K+. Very strange.....I don't know what type of work they do (quality) but the fact they didn't want the work left a bad taste in my mouth (so to speak). Doubt I would contact them for anything in the future.

We do not do Commercial work. We specialize in residential remodeling, only. This person was looking for commercial repair work. Commercial work has a different set of license requirements and guidelines. Please keep reading our reviews and you will discover we do outstanding work. Last year we had 66% repeat and referral business. Thank you, Tim Munson President

Our new kitchen is beautiful, functional, and better than we could have imagined. AES transformed our cramped, galley-style kitchen into a show piece. Overall, the process was fairly smooth from design through execution. We enjoyed working with their interior designer/concierge person, Shawna—picking materials and products was a breeze, and we had the benefit of AES's direct relationship with some quality vendors. Furthermore, they produced good-quality architectural 3-D renderings which were very helpful for the design process. One nice anecdote: At the beginning, I let AES know that I wanted to do painting (to save a bit of money, and to do it to my liking). The kitchen crew still did fantastic wall prep—perfectly primed and smooth. The kitchen crew also carefully removed the old cabinetry intact and in good condition, allowing me to donate it eventually. I have one word of warning for customers undertaking any similar remodel: avoid Best Buy if you can! AES typically brings their clients to Best Buy for picking out appliances. While we were super happy with the products we bought, dealing with Best Buy was a nightmare. One appliance arrived damaged and Best Buy gave both us AND our AES rep the run-around trying to get it replaced. Thankfully, AES had our back and it was finally sorted and the appliance re-installed by the wonderful kitchen crew. The kitchen was finished sooner than expected too, with no loss to attention to detail.
Description of Work: We needed an entire kitchen remodel—including all new cabinets, new floor, reframing a window, extending a wall, and adding a pass-through.

Now that we are the deep of winter, I am so thankful we had AES replace all our windows (basement and garage included) with their triple-paned replacement windows as part of our first round of renovations on an old house. They replaced them in the late August–early September 2017 timeframe. I can't imagine what our energy bills would be without them. Their window crew of two replaced all 30-ish windows in 3 or 4 days. (for any potential customers planning to do something similar, please understand our house was unfurnished at the time, it helped the installers work quickly). The installation is excellent—clean caulk lines, sturdy, tidy. We knew what we were in for because we previously had them replace doors on another property. The windows themselves are a good product. They are manufactured by Alside. We got an assortment of casement, slider, and picture windows. Initially, we were shocked at how thick the new window frames were—they took up more window space than the older ones—but in our research we found this is the norm for replacement windows. We're quite satisfied with the look of them now. They open/close/lock perfectly, have easily removable screens, and just generally look good. As with any AES service, it was definitely a tough price tag, but it truly is "you get what you pay for" and a sound investment that I expect will last the life of the house. I would and will continue to work with AES for further renovation projects.
Description of Work: We needed every window (about 30) in an old house replaced.

Thank you for sharing your experience you had with AES and the triple pane windows. Yes, you definitely get what you pay for. The AES Advantage window will save a lot of energy, therefore save you a lot of money. This is a window that will pay for itself in a very short time, through saving energy dollars that was being wasted on Energy. Also thank you for allowing us to remodel your complete home from top to bottom. We appreciate you and your business. We look forward to continuing our relationship with you. Please remember you have our 5 Year Free Labor Warranty and we want you to call us if you need any type of service. Gratefully yours, Tim Munson President

From beginning to end, our experience with AES was wonderful. Honest, genuine, caring, knowledgeable... Absolute quality in the work! Our new jetted tub is amazing, as was the engineering / planning and execution of our remodeling project. It has been a pleasure to work with Stephen, and our Project Manager Mike. We're already thinking about our NEXT project with AES!! So glad we selected them!!!

Thank you for trusting us with your custom jetted tub remodel. Because of the small size of your bathroom, we had to carefully plan how to layout your Oversize Soaking Tub. I trust you enjoy relaxing in it for many years to come. We look forward to serving you again soon. Gratefully yours, Tim Munson President

From the start of the project until the end, AES kept me well informed, respected my home and property and made sure that I was happy every step of the way. The crew ( Mike and Kyle) were amazing and extremely knowledgeable as well as helpful on how to go about performing the best installation and even offered recommendations on possible future work. They valued my thoughts and I would highly recommend ( and have) them to everyone! AES Rocks! It’s true, if your not happy their not done!

Everyone was pleasant enough. They forgot to follow up with me when they told me they would send me additional information or it would take several follow ups and about a week for them to respond to emails. They say they don't use subcontractors, but they do. The concierge service is not at all useful and they don't try to save you money. I sent her more ideas than she sent me...by far. My floor tiles came unstuck and they won't come out to fix it. Shoddy work. The representative does not communicate clearly and somehow the price kept being inflated due to his oversights. They send you a cookie jar after wards and a $500 gift card for your next project you do with them. I threw it away. Their business model depends on recommendations, but they don't act like it.

Dear Angies List Members: This is an unfortunate situation where the customer continually cut corners by purchasing cheap products. She did not take the advise of our concierge to purchase quality products we know we can trust. One example is she purchased plastic stick down tiles from Walmart for $38.00. We told her she should purchase better tile as she would have problems with this tile. We had also told her our warranty will not cover the cheap tile, prior to installing the products. She is now experiencing problems with the tile and is blaming AES. This customer refused to shop with our vendors. When our concierge takes you shopping, we take you to quality vendors and allow you to purchase products at our discounted prices from the vendors. We don't make any profit from your vendor purchases. Our goal is to make sure you get quality products. There were no oversights on the projects. This customer kept changing her mind and adding more work to her project, therefore adding more cost. She was given the cost on the changes per her request and decided to proceed with her changes. In the beginning they only wanted us to replace their shower and then decided to have us do [Member Information Removed] full bathroom remodel with them supplying their own products. We made it clear that we cannot be responsible for customer supplied products because of the vast qualities of products and manufactures. Most of our craftsmen have been with us for 8 years and longer. Please continue reading our reviews and you will see we do high quality work. Last year we did 66% in previous customer returning for more work and referrals from previous customers. We take great pride in making our customers happy and doing beautiful work. Thank you for choosing us and taking the time to read more Angie's list reviews. Gratefully yours, Tim Munson President

Excellent customer service, punctuality, and quality of work. I would highly recommend this company to ANY family or friends looking for a top notch builder or remodeling company. Dave, the customer service person helped us shop for everything from the paint colors to the tile to the cabinetry and washer and dryer. The crew who did all the work were spectacularly professional, talented, friendly, but not intrusive. I am so happy with our new full bath and laundry I would love for them to come back and do more work for us, which we will have planned for 2018.
