I rate it as excellent. I didn't find any nails or debris on the ground. The roof looks great. My only problem was that they placed the satellite dish (which I didn't want back on the roof) on my neighbor's roof. However, one phone call and the site foreman came out that day and brought the satelite dish down to the ground, per my request. This is a 40-year roof, so I don't think I will need to replace it for a long time. Great job.
Description of Work: AES replaced the roof on my townhouse.

Thank you Jeff for sharing your experience with Angie's List Members. Thank you for allowing us to serve you with this second contract. Our best testimony of work is when a homeowner calls us back to do another project and or refers us to his friends, relatives or other homeowners. We enjoyed serving you on both occasions and look forward to working with you again in the future. Gratefully yours, Tim Munson President

I think that their price was reasonable. It was in the same ballpark as the other companies. The guy who came out was very professional and real courteous. He pretty much listened to what I wanted but he could not do exactly what I wanted to happen. That was why I did not use them, otherwise, everything else was good. He got back to me very quickly and he was here when he said that he would be here. He was also very punctual and very nice. I might get an estimate from them again in the future if I need to.

Once the contract was signed, the time line began and things went very smoothly. Jeff came out about a week later to finalize our selections for the tub, shower and flooring. The two weeks late he accompanied up to the store to pick out our vanities and bathroom fixtures. The following week Jeff and James came out for a final walk through of the project. They estimated it would take up to 4 weeks to complete. The following Monday James and Perry showed up to begin the work. They were very prompt arriving right at 8AM to begin. They worked with very little mess outside the room they were working in. Since we have visually impaired daughter, they made sure to keep the hallways as cleared as possible. At night all equipment and supplies were put up so she would have clear passage upstairs. The work was completed quickly and efficiently. They completed the first bathroom in a week, well under schedule. The second bathroom was completed in under a week. We were very impressed with the work ethic of both men and speed in which the project was completed. James and Perry had to work in a challenging environment. First, they had to do the bathrooms separately since we are living in the house. Second, we have 9 children and the younger 7 all wanted to see what was going on with the bathrooms. James and Perry were both very patient with them, explaining what the process when they asked questions. While they were not the cheapest estimate we obtained, the adage you get what you pay for was definitely in play with this company and their employees. We have several more projects in line to be completed and AES is on the top of our list.
Description of Work: We contacted several contractors to obtain estimates to remodel our two upstairs bathrooms. Our house is 23 years old and the bathrooms had never been touched. Several contractors came out to give estimates, the majority of them wanted to “get back to us” with the estimate. We never heard from two of them, and a third one called us with a price range and the final one gave us a very low price that seemed unreasonably low. When Jeff arrived to gather information for the estimate he listened to what we wanted to do and understood our budget concerns. He provided us a written estimate on the spot with a firm price provided us a written estimate on the spot with a firm price and time line for completion. We decided to go with the company.

AES wanted $26,000 to do one bathroom. To give you an idea of the absurdness of this price, we've done the demolition, purchased the tub, toilet, vanity and tile and hired a plumber for the sewer line and have only spent $4000 so far. I'm expecting an estimate for the tile work to be in the range of another $2000. So, you see, AES gave me a price of $20,000 more than what we'll eventually spend. Just showing up and giving me a ridiculous estimate to get out of doing the work, because your company is overbooked, is not impressive at all.
Description of Work: T.J. came in and gave me an estimate to turn a kitchen into a bathroom. I also asked for an estimate for the brick walls, a smaller bathroom and the kitchen.

Having investigated the complaint, I will share the facts: 1. First of all our estimate was for the following: The bathroom we estimated for was for installing a bathroom where no bathroom existed. Install a full custom shower with multiple shower heads, custom tile work and custom made glass walls. She also wanted a drop in Jacuzzi tub with custom tile surround. She wanted us to build a custom two level vanity cabinet. She also wanted complete customer tile flooring. Our price also included doing an basement Injector pump station for the sewage and drains. 2. The new bathroom was on the top floor and the sewage was on the opposite side of the house in the basement. The plumbing consisted of installing a drain line through the house down into the basement, draining into an ejector pump to send the sewage across the basement into the exit drain. This consisted of jack hammering the basement for the ejector pump and waste lines, ( a lot of work just for the sewage). 3. She also wanted an old bathroom removed and turned into a custom built closet. 4. She and her companion had done a lot of their own remodeling over the years. He stated several times he could do all this work himself, but did not have the time. He also knew it would cost much more by having a contractor come in and do the work. He said he knew he would struggle with the price no matter what it was, as he knows he can do it cheaper himself. 5. We have found over our experience of being in business for over 23 years, most people who do their own work have a hard time seeing value in having a professional company doing there work. This job was in no way overpriced and I'm sure the homeowner will realize even more cost and sweat labor as they proceed in doing this job. The customer made an unjust statement referring that we are giving a ridiculous estimate to get out of doing work. Why would we waste our time and energy in giving estimates if we did not want to do the work? Also, we have had a great year thus far, however we are not over booked. I'm sorry this customer could not realize our value and I can understand they want to save money by doing it themselves. I wish them the best with their project. Thank you for taking the time to read this response. Please page down and read more about our great work from our happy customers who have contracted with us and allowed us to provide them with high quality work. You will see we receive high grades from our actual work. We take great pride in all our work and value our clients with the highest regards. Truly, Tim Munson President

David Hill came by to do an estimate of a small bathroom remodel and front and back door replacements. He was prompt and extremely helpful, giving me tips not only on the projects at hand, but about many other issues I have in my historic rowhome. He gave thorough answers, creative solutions, and understood my tight budget. I could tell that I can trust David and AES with either of these projects and I will definitely keep them on hand for the future.

Jeff arrived right on time and was very friendly and knowledgeable. However, in giving the estimate he didn't provide pictures or give us the opportunity to pick out our own style of tub or fixtures. The end result sounded like it would be a beautiful bathroom, but too fancy for the rest of our house! The price was significantly higher than other estimates we had received, but we understand that the materials used would be of higher quality. Since we plan to move in the next 3 to 5 years, we didn't want to put that much money into the remodel.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes we do high quality, however we are happy to try to work within your budget also. It's highly unusual for Jeff not to show pictures as he has many pictures. Also we want every customer to pick out their own style. Many times our customers supply their own fixtures. It's unfortunate we were not able to help you, as you know by reading reports where we have actually done the work, our customers give us raving reviews. I wish you well with your project. From the very beginning we felt comfortable with AES, and we gradually developed the confidence that they could do what they said they could do to help us redesign our home. We had been " burned" before in a previous construction fiasco with one of the big box type do-it-yourself stores. We had our master bathroom redone with all kinds of problems, and it dragged on and on for what seemed like forever, until we fired the contractor and they sent someone else to clean up the mess. This new experience with AES was so less stressful, and even pleasantly exciting at times as new things were installed in the kitchen space and everything started to come together as a reality. The level of professional workmanship with Brian and his crew (Rob, Jamie, and Mike) was just outstanding. They really cared about our concerns, and took the time to answer every one of our questions, and made adjustments at our request. They were flexible, and very polite, and left the house clean everyday as they swept up after they were finished. We will have them come back to do more work if we decide to expand the house. Don't hesitate to hire them.......They know what they are doing, and are trustworthy craftsmen..... just a great experience!
Description of Work: AES redesigned the downstairs of our home to a new open floor plan with a much bigger kitchen with a floating island, french doors for the new den, and many alterations that included knocking down walls and building a new support system for the upstairs of the house overhanging the family room space. ....A tall order! We have decided to stay in this house throughout most of our retirement years, and we have a big extended family that lives nearby , therefore we needed more room to accommodate everyone at once (especially at the holiday time). The flow of moving from room to room, and the flexibility to move furniture and the function of spaces at will, were a big priority in this design. Jim Cabral came up with many ideas for us to chose from, and helped us to make decisions based on his experience and strong background in using space wisely and aesthetically. I was very picky as I have an art background and really care about the visual overall "picture" as well as the function of a space. We all worked together well to create solutions that worked for each newly designed area.

Josh did a great job building the deck. He made suggestions that made the appearance of the structure look great. The men who installed the awning worked as a team and had the awning up in no time. The deck and awning look great together, and blend well with our house. The men who poured the concrete were not as careful.. We had to point our that some forms had been laid improperly. They failed to put some fence posts in place prior to pouring the concrete. Josh had them return to make the holes in the concrete for the fence posts, so that he could place them.
Description of Work: The old back deck and awning were removed, along with the back patio and sidewalk. New concrete was poured where the old had been removed. A new deck and awning were installed.

Our 1980's shower and toilet were leaking and we wanted to change from a tub and surround to shower base with tiled walls and shower door. Vanity is separate from the shower room which we had already updated. We contacted AES in June 2013, met with Jeffrey Harrington who helped us clarify our vision for the bathroom renovation, and signed a contract on 6/6/13. We bought the new features and materials: new shower base, shower door, calacatta porcelain tile, flooring, Grohe showerhead, Toto toilet, and pocket door with hardware for a unique open pocket door. AES scheduled the work to start 7/8/13 and ended within a week and a half, which avoided a conflict with our family vacation plans. We greatly appreciated that. Renovation project started on time with careful prep work to keep our floors and steps clean. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the master bedroom, hallway, and steps were at the end of each day of work! Josh Barranger was the project manager. He and his crew's quality of work, professionalism, and work ethic were excellent! We would absolutely recommend AES Builder & Home Improvements to family and friends!

He was late, our appointment was for 6:30 and he didn't show up until 7:15. They did call to say they would be late. He said he wasn't a salesman, but an installer in training, they sent him out as a salesperson and he talked like an installer. He didn't give me any kind of formal written estimate, he just wrote something up on graph paper. He looked at the floor and measured it, then said he thinks it will be about $6000. I have a very small floor, 12'x 5'. He then told me they were having a holiday sale and he may not be able to hold the sale price. He wanted an answer that day. I told him it wasn't urgent for me, I could even wait until December. He then told me if I wanted to wait until August and I could be a "filler job" to fit in between other larger jobs. I did not choose this company. He had great interpersonal skills, but I feel like he should not have been sent out by himself. He probably should have had the salesperson with him.

Dear Angie's List Members: Please allow me to clarify a few things. The gentleman sent out to review this job was a estimator in training. He was a lead carpenter for additions, decking and basement remodeling which included installing flooring. I ask him to become an estimator because of his experience of the trades and cost factors involved. In looking at the floor it was not a 5X12 but much larger, 7X18, which included the removal of two layers of flooring and install a subfloor prior to installing the floor. The job also consisted of removing the refrigerator and disconnecting the stove and reconnecting so we could do the job properly. it also consisted of tiling in the closets and partially into the basement steps. This job was much more time consuming than just installing a floor. We take great measure in our prep work to make sure the home owner has no future problems with the floor or subfloor movement. We take great pride in doing the job right so we can give our customers a five year free labor warranty when most companies only give a one year warranty. It appears to me the customer misunderstood the estimator in his explanation of his position in the company and also the amount of work it takes to do the job right. Please read our other reports of jobs we have completed and you will find we have an A rating with Angie's List and read of our many very Satisfied and Happy Customers. Remember our commitment to you, "When we're done you'll be happy, if you're not happy, we're not done", this is the heart beat of our company. I called to arrange for someone to come out and give an estimate on the work. The appointment setter asked if someone else owned the property with me, like a husband and I explained that the property was mine. Like the other reviewer, I was also offended by the question. So, obviously they got burned or got into the middle of a marital dispute in the past. But is it worth offending every potential customer, especially since women initiate and make most of these buying decisions around home improvements?? I also asked the estimator for an honest opinion about whether they were competitive on something like carpet or if I was better off with a flooring place. He said, that's up to you but I think we are competitive. When the estimator came out, he didn't bring any sample that would indicate the quality of construction of the sliding glass door. He did bring samples of wood, but no laminate and one grade of carpet (middle of the road quality). The estimator let me know that the company started as a window company, so I asked him for a quote on four windows as well. He was writing up notes and gave me some verbal price estimates. At that point, another estimator I had lined up specifically around windows and a sliding door arrived. They knew each others companies. The estimator offered to send me an estimate by email, which he never did. So, either he didn't like that I was comparing prices, or the job was too small, which might explain the outrageous prices he quoted me. He could have referred me to the "handyman" services if the job was too small, but at least follow up. I ended up getting better quality carpet and padding for 60% less. The competitors quote on the door was almost 50% less for comparable quality (based on specs supplied in brochures). All I can say is check prices, and if you have time to coordinate everything yourself (act as your own general contractor), you will save the outrageous mark-up.

Dear Angie's List Members: Please allow me to set the facts straight. My appointment setter never ask if a husband owns the property with a caller. He does ask if there is another homeowner who will be helping make the purchasing decision. We do prefer for all decision makers to be present when possible so we can answer all individual questions and concerns. We also want to make sure all decision makers have an opportunity to meet our representative and learn more about our company. We do not make this a policy of receiving an estimate, as we understand people are busy. We are more than happy to visit as many times as requested. In no way are we undermining ladies or wife's, as we make this same request when men call our office. The homeowner also eluded that we must have quote "obviously got burned or got into the middle of a marital dispute in the past". This is certainly far from the truth and we did not give her any indication of this statement she made. According to our records she requested the following when she called: replace the sliding glass door, install washer and dryer hookups and a dryer vent near the bath or in the kitchen, construct a closet around the washer and dryer, replace sheet rock in a 6' section of the ceiling, install tile in the 5x6' area of the bathroom, replace carpet in 2 bedrooms, living room and dining room. Upon arrival the customer advised the estimator this is a rental property and she needed to fix it up as cheap as possible. She showed him the windows immediately of a fairly new home. It was clear the window were breaking due to a structural issue in the house construction. She stated she had gone back to the builder once and he had replace some of the windows, but they had broke again. The builder sent an engineer out and determined it was no fault of the builder. It was explained to her, it would be inappropriate for AES to sell her windows because of the structural issues going on in the house. She requested AES to write her a letter confirming she had structural issues. When we stated we could not do that, as she would need a structural engineer to check it and write a professional letter, she then became upset with our estimator. At that point of the visit she ask our estimator to leave as she had another estimator waiting for her. Our estimator was never allowed the opportunity to carefully examine the necessary components to give an accurate estimate. When we would not agree to write a letter we were ask to leave. We did not quote any type of estimate. Upon leaving our estimator ask the home owner how she would like to proceed from here. She advised him she would contact him. He has never been contacted by her since the initial visit. This job was not to small for AES and we would have been more that happy to help the homeowner. I wish the homeowner well and hope she successfully accomplishes her projects. Thank you for taking time to read this lengthy response. Please scroll down and read more about our customers who have actually experienced us remodeling their homes. Last year we did 1.6 million in repeat and referral business. We take great pride in serving our customers and back our work up with a five year free labor warranty. Truly yours, Tim Munson, President

When I originally called for an appointment, the individual that I spoke with asked what we were looking to have done at our home. Then he also asked if anyone else owned the property with me, (I thought this was an odd question at the time), however, I indicated that my husband also owned the property. He asked when, WE would be available for an appointment. I indicated that he is very busy and it would not be convenient for him to be present. An appointment was scheduled, and the day prior I received an email confirming the appointment. The confirmation indicated that they were looking forward to meeting BOTH of us. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured it was an oversight on the part of the scheduler. When the estimator arrived, he was pleasant and did provide ideas on how we could rearrange our master bathroom to meet our requirements. He then asked me, where was my husband. (This was the 3rd time for those of you who are counting). Once we sat down to discuss the figures, I asked for a breakdown so that my husband and I could review the estimate. I was told that they typically do not provide breakdowns and this is why my husband should have been here. Apparently, this company has a standing policy of not making appointments unless both the husband and wife are present. This is insulting to someone who is capable of making decisions for our household. Why would I waste my husband's valuable time with a company that has such antiquated values? They also indicated that they prefer to deal in person when I requested an email with specifics regarding the quote. Given how technology has involved, I have trouble spending close to $50K without written specifics as to what is included. I also have concerns regarding their price. I'm in the process of obtaining other estimates so I will see how they compare but given that I asked for a complete renovation of the bathroom. I was surprised to learn that the quote we verbally discussed would not include light fixtures, for example. I'm sure I would have discovered other items that were not included had I received a written quote.
Description of Work: I contacted AES for an estimate to remodel our master bathroom and closets based upon the reviews at Angie's List. They were able to quickly set up an appointment and have someone out to our home within 2 days to provide an estimate.

Dear Angie's List Members: I personally spoke to (member name removed) and the estimator in reference to this incident. It appears to me there was a serious personality difference and communication gap between the two. I will do my best to clear up with facts. We always ask if there is more than one homeowner. We do prefer, but not require, that both can be home when possible to meet with us and discuss the project. Obviously, after talking with the homeowner she took it personal, that we felt she was unable to handle this project alone. Please know that this is not at all our attitude. We find that both home owners want to have input and have different questions about our process of work, therefore we like to have all present when it's possible. We have and will continue to meet with only one homeowner when necessary, gather information and give an estimate. We are more than willing to return as many times as necessary to make sure all parties are comfortable with AES. She did indicate when the estimator arrived he was pleasant and did provide ideas on how we could rearrange our master bathroom to meet our requirements. She stated after that point, the estimator ask her where her husband was and she then felt it to be insulting to someone who is capable of making decisions for our household. After speaking to the estimator, I am assured he in no way try to insult her or make her feel belittled. He did state she seemed to have an attitude toward the company before he arrived for the estimate. He stated he did his best to communicate with her and truly wanted to serve her. She ask for an estimate and he was willing to take the time to write an estimate on the spot. She wanted him to email an estimate of which he was willing to do, however after more conversation together, they both decided it would be a waste of both of there time, as unfortunately this visit did not start out well. In reference to the statement of light fixtures not being included in the estimate, all of our estimates include what is necessary unless the home owner tell us they are supplying some of the products for the remodeling project. When I spoke to the Mrs. at length I apologized many times and also offered to send another estimator of a younger age as she felt the problem could have been the person that came was a little older. She stated "I am pissed off right now and will let you know". At this time I have not heard from her. I did everything to make this situation better and I am certainly sorry this ever happened. Please continue to read my other Angie's List reports and you will see we are a great company providing very professional work receiving A Ratings for our company and worked performed. We also give a Five Year Free Labor Warranty on all our work. Last year we did 1.6 million dollars in repeat and referral business. This repeat business makes me happy as I know we are treating people with respect and performing good work. Please remember our heart beat, "When We're Done you'll Be Happy, If You're Not Happy We're Not Done". Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope we are able to serve you in the future. I had a good experience with AES installing replacement windows 2 years earlier, so I chose them to install siding. The siding price seemed high but the work was done well. Workers arrived on time. They were clean and polite. They cleaned up the debris in the yard every day before leaving. The job was completed on time. I've had no problems with their workmanship or the siding product (or the replacement windows). I would recommend AES and I would employ them again.
Description of Work: Removed aluminum siding and replaced with vinyl siding on my center townhouse.

Bill Miner was our sales rep and was very helpful in guiding us in making our decisions. We could call him whenever we had questions. The crew that we had were great. They were friendly, courteous and cleaned up everyday behind themselves. The work was started within the time line and finished ahead of schedule. We had some incidental damage done by the HVAC subcontractor hired by AES. Upon contacting Bill Munson, he arranged to meet here with the owner of the HVAC Company the very next day. Together they arranged to have the damage completely repaired to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: A 600 SF addition was put on the back of the house. A great room was added, the bathroom and master bedroom was extended and the kitchen was completely remodeled.

From start to finish it was a most pleasant experience unlike any of the other contractors I have done business with in the past. Bill who did the paperwork answered any questions I had and was very easy to talk to. We had Charles work in our home and a finer man you will not meet. He was clean-cut, polite, helpful. I don't mean to be mean but some of the men from previous contractors looked like they belonged in prison! AES has the customer pick the materials and pay for them and that way you know what you are getting unlike other contractors who buy the cheapest stuff and you don't find out until you see it. Charles brain-stormed as he was custom building a handicapped bathroom. He took all suggestions seriously and often came up with helpful things I hadn't thought about. The absolutely wonderful thing about Charles is, he can do Everything, including carpentry, plumbing, wiring etc. you name it and he could do it which was so nice as there weren't different guys coming in and out of the house. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt he did extra things for me as things don't get done like they used to. As for the quality of the work, it is top-notch and the finished bathroom is most beautiful! Oh, if only I has found AES 22 years ago! I am so pleased with their work I had them do another job right away. AES, is not the cheapest but then you certainly do get what you paid for. Charles went above the call when one day I fell to the floor and no one could pick me up. He picked me off the floor! AES is the best, now if I can figure how to adopt Charles...
Description of Work: We had AES put in a new bathroom. They gutted the bathroom and then built a bathroom according to what I needed as I am handicapped.

Great. Don kept me informed on each step. At the close of the day he would advise me of what he expected to accomplish the next day . As he finished a task he cleaned up that area before he started the next task. Needless to say, I was impressed. Since my house is over 100 years old, you never know what you might find when you start a project and I was delighted to find that this project came in on budget and beat the schedule.
Description of Work: I needed to restructure the first floor of my house into an apartment. I chose AES because of my very positive experiences with their (at that time) handy man service. Kevin came out and went over my plans and came back with a number that was above my budget so we worked together to prioritize what I really required and restructure other wants. I had wanted to completely replace the kitchen cabinets and he pointed out to me that they were really good, solid wood, custom made cabinets. I decided on second look that the problem was really that all they needed was eliminating one of the bottom cabinets and replacing it with the cabinet with drawers; cutting off three of the top cabinets and disposing of the dish washer to allow relocating the refrigerator. The bathroom got an almost complete makeover replacing the toilet, installing a new vanity, bowl, faucet and light fixture. When I measured the space for the vanity I overlooked that the entrance to the bathroom was narrow. The vanity did not fit but somehow Don made it fit--I prayed :). His problem solving skills were second to none. He removed a radiator and capped off the pipes, tore down an existing free standing wall and constructed a wall to create a bedroom. Since I was moving from the second floor to the first floor, I wanted to bring my chandelier which he relocated and replaced it with a new one and installed a new ceiling fan in my new office. Pleased with the whole experience is not adequate to describe how I feel. From start to finish, it was a joy. After I accepted the contract, Mr Munson called to see when I wanted to start and when I told him "yesterday", he called back and asked if "tomorrow" would be a good time to start. I was delighted.

AES lived up to it's promise of making us happy with our kitchen renovation. The job was to completely remove the old kitchen and start from scratch. Dave Hill was very helpful in getting us around to the various vendors for counter tops and tile. Mosaic Tile was extremely helpful to my wife by sitting down and discussing various back splash designs and let me tell you, the final product was more than we imagined. We also went by United and Granite and Marble and presented our ideas which they turned into a master peace. I took many pictures of the project as it evolved posting them on Facebook so my friends could follow the job progress. One of my friends posted that it looks like we live in a beautiful showroom. It's true we have a kitchen that we love preparing food in as well as just sitting at the island for a snack. Thank you so much Tim Munson for delivering our dream kitchen. Most importantly I want to thank Steve and Kim, the on-site technicians, that made it happen. These guys are artists! As with any job there is always from follow-up work. I prepared a short list of a few minor issues that were quickly resolved. I've been asked by neighbors if I would recommend AES. That's easy, most definitely!
Description of Work: My wife and I have spent the last 4 years getting quotes from various construction companies in the Baltimore area for a complete kitchen renovation. All quotes we received to date seemed outrageous until a work colleague referred me to Dave Hill and AES. My colleague mention that he was very pleased with the work and that company delivered what they promised. Dave came by in early December 2012 and collected information on what we wanted. He got back to me within days with a drawing and a quote. After some negotiation we came to a mutual agreement on construction cost. Before the end of December we had a contract for the job to begin in March 2013. Dave was professional and knowledgeable.

I called to get an estimate on the window replacements and some other work, and they sent someone out the next day - a Saturday which helps with my schedule. Once I chose them, they scheduled the work for 3/15. I called earlier that week to confirm they were coming, they arrived as planned, and started the work. The replacement windows were installed on that day, but Steve, the lead installer let me know in the afternoon that they were not going to be able to complete everything that day as they had originally planned. They left after they had completed the first part of the job, and with everything tight and secure. We arranged from him to come back the next Friday to complete the work. On that Friday, he did not arrive as early as he had proposed, and I had to call the office to confirm that he was coming. He installed the stained glass window and did an excellent job with the octagonal frame. I graded the company down on Professionalism because, while the work was well done and everyone on the site and at the company behaved in a professional manner, there were several items on the work order that were apparently a surprise to the installer when he arrived. Also, the fact that no one called to confirm the original work date, or the extended date.

What a great experience. Every step of this process was handled in a professional manner starting with our sales rep, Bill. He helped us lay out a plan for both bathrooms which took them down to bare studs and restored them to beautiful! Mr. Munson also kept personal contact with the project. We were assigned two very talented contractors, Brian and Rob, and no detail was too small for them to take the time to go over them with us. My favorite part of the finished product was the tile work. It's more than I had imagined. They managed to keep the mess as contained as possible and it was cleaned up at the end of every working day. The overall project took less time than projected. The best recommendation I can give is that we are now in the midst of our next project with AES (thank you, Paul!) and it won't be our last! To be honest, I would have to say that one of the things that drew us to this company was their motto, "When we're finished, you'll be happy; if you're not happy, we're not finished." They lived up to that!

In mid-December 2012, I decided to do a complete renovation of the first floor of my home. I called two contractors and asked them to come out and give me estimates but I never heard back from them. I heard an advertisement on 95.1 Shine FM Radio in Baltimore for AES Builders and decided to give them a call. I called the office at 11:00 AM and spoke to Phil. I briefly explained what I wanted to have done and asked for an estimate to see if my ideas were within my budget. Phil told me he could have someone out to talk to me that very same afternoon which totally surprised me. Promptly at 1 PM, Mr. David Hill arrived at my door with samples for me to look at and choose from so he could get an idea of the price range of my project. I was impressed with Mr. Hill and his professionalism and I was also pleased to find out he is a Christian. He got back to me almost immediately with an estimate. I told him the price was above my budget and we discussed possible changes and suggestions that would bring me closer to my budget. Actually very few changes were made and I still got the quality products I originally wanted closer to my budgeted amount. I just had a very good feeling about this company and decided to go with them for the renovation without looking further for a contractor and I am very glad I did. I signed a contract with AES Builders on December 21, 2012, with an estimated start date of March 20, 2013, for my project. I went with Mr. Hill to the tile and granite stores in early January and also went over the details of the kitchen design he had provided to me so I could make intelligent decisions about counter tops, tile, grout, cabinetry, lighting and so many other things. There was never any pressure to make decisions and when I changed my mind, my new requests were accepted graciously. I am very pleased with all the businesses AES uses for their materials. In early February I had a call from the company's president, Mr. Munson. He just wanted to touch base with me and find out if I was ok with all the plans up to that time. It is very impressive to receive a call from the company president who is truly interested in making his customers happy. Mr. Munson also indicated the project might start earlier than March 20th which made me very happy. I was soon notified that the project would begin on February 11, 2013, and I met the foreman for the job, Brian, when Mr. Hill brought him out to meet me and for Brian to review the job several days before the start date. The project is currently in its fifth week which is almost to the halfway point and I could not be more pleased with the progress of the job and the professionalism of Brian and his workers Robbie and Bobbie. These three gentlemen are totally focused on attention to detail and making everything they do absolutely perfect. They are highly skilled and are far exceeding my expectations on all aspects of the project. They completed the demolition of gutting 6 rooms on the ground floor in just two days, cleaned everything up and started the renovation on the third day. Each day when they leave, they clean up the work area, remove all trash or old materials and everything is put away and readied for the start of work the following day. They are busy working from the time they arrive until they leave each evening seldom even taking a break. I could not be more pleased and would highly recommend AES Builders to anyone looking for quality workmanship, professionalism and skill in the workers on the job site and top quality attention to detail in all aspects of the projects. There is not one negative comment I would make about this company and its workers and on a scale of 1-10, I would give them a rating of at least 25! The decision to go with AES Builders is truly the right decision and I feel I am very blessed to have them taking care of my renovation project.
Description of Work: I had 6 rooms gutted on the first floor of my home (kitchen, living room, dining room, office, bedroom and bathroom). The wall between the dining room and office was removed and the new room will be a master bedroom on the first floor. The small bedroom will become a master bathroom off the master bedroom and the current bathroom will become a powder room. The kitchen was redesigned and new cabinety and countertops will be installed. Existing hardwood floors in living room, dining room and office are being refinished. Hardwood floors are being installed in the kitchen and all floors will be stained to match. Two french doors in the living room were removed and one steel door was installed. A custom shower stall is being built and a custom window seat is being built under the bay window in the new master bedroom. All new electric, plumbing, lighting and insulation is being installed.

They're done and we are thrilled! AES salesman Bill Minor took us on an eight hour shopping spree to purchase supplies, including floor and wall tiles, shower pan, toilet, as well as incidentals. From the minute Roger and Andy began the project we were so impressed with their professionalism. They were timely and always let us know when they would do every aspect of the job. They were respectful and charming, knowledgeable and communicative. They not only installed everything to perfection, but cleaned up nightly. The labor is guaranteed for five years, which is a selling point that other companies didn't offer. Also other companies didn't "see the need to remove walls" but our new walls are an obvious plus. The pride that our installers took in their work is remarkable.
Description of Work: Our master bathroom was remodeled, including the removal of bulkheads and a useless tiled bench next to the tub. Plumbing had to be moved twelve inches for both the shower and commode. The bathroom was taken down to studs, and everything was replaced. Also a new vanity was installed in a downstairs bathroom, as well as a toilet moved to this room from upstairs. The tub was replaced with a walk-in shower, including a beautiful custom-made marble shower pan and tiled to the ceiling walls. The shower door was ready made and purchased at Lowes.
