Never again Remax. This Remax location is given the lowest rating due to appalling customer service, unprofessional/disrespectful staff, and shoddy business practices that will bar me from ever doing business with any Remax company again. Here's why: From the onset, they advertised the home as a 3 bedroom, sharing images of the house with the current tenant’s bedroom in the basement. Once we moved in, our kids shared the basement space with a bunkbed. We received a notification from Remax that the Fire Marshall needed to come through on a certain date to ensure everything was up to code. The Fire Marshall came through and informed us that we could not have anyone sleeping in the basement due to a fire hazard, as the basement windows were deemed too small for a person the escape from in the event of a fire. When we brought this to Remax’s attention and reminded them that they had advertised the downstairs as a bedroom, they boldfaced lied and told us that they had never advertised the property as such. A few months later there was a drain clogged that was backing up the laundry sink in the basement. When we reported this we were told that clogged drains are the tenant’s responsibility. After a bit of back and forth, they sent someone out to clear the blockage. The plumber cited “years worth of excessive grease and washing machine lint” had caused the backup. Having resided in the property for only 8 months at the time, we didn’t see how this was our fault/responsibility. Nevertheless Remax was quick to hit us with a $300 dollar bill. We reluctantly renewed our lease for another year (12 month lease was the minimum option). Around March, my husband and I accepted new jobs in Virginia and the commute was too excessive to remain in Rockville. We informed them 60 days prior to our move that we’d be vacating the property on May 1. They did not assist in helping us find new tenants for the house, and in fact, were downright rude about our need to move. I personally advertised online, fielding hundreds of inquiries and directing them all to Remax, yet somehow, none of those inquires made it to the “showing” stage. After paying an additional 3 months’ rent on the vacant property, we had had enough. We emailed David Palmer (owner) and his team about how we felt we were being taken advantage of, as they were not doing their due diligence to get someone into the property and that their lack of communication was non-existent. Mr. Palmer’s response was (word-for-word): “You have never left a message for me. Robin reports that your statement that "I have been calling your office to speak to either David or Robin to get an update, and no one is responding." is both false and misleading as she reports that you called yesterday about six times while she was out visiting properties. She has been busy with urgent matters and will get to you shortly. Do not call us multiple times in the same day for no reason. Much of the day we are both out inspecting properties and dealing with problems. You claiming you are being taken advantage of is ridiculous as you are the one that caused this problem by moving before your lease is up. I am sorry to hear of your financial issues but they have no bearing on the situation you have caused. If you do not pay rent monthly unfortunately you will only make things worse for yourself as late fees and legal fees will be added to your account and once the owner's total damages are known legal action will be taken to garnish your pay.” This type of response was downright disrespectful and tactless. Miraculously, they found a new tenant a few weeks later. In the end, we got back $500 of our $2000+ security deposit, citing that we owed them for: Clogged drain plumbing fees, Wall painting, Gutter cleaning, and more. As military veterans who have honorably served in conflicts overseas, it was disgusting the way we were treated and handled with complete disdain. Never again Remax.

Response from RE/MAX PREMIERE SELECTION
I am not the service provider. There are more than 25 licensed independent agents in this office. I am not sure why this review is attached to my profile. Best of Luck! Asif Qadir, Realtor, CRS
