Description of Work: I went back and picked up my daughter's wedding dress because before they cleaned and preserved it, I found out about another company that did a wonderful job for $600.00 less. They are way too expensive. I don't remember the date. It was last year sometime.

For $75, the spots were not removed and the cleaning was really no better than my Zips. I am sure they are wonderful for many things, but I was left feeling they were nothing special, which for the price (which was really at least 3X higher than any other in the area) seemed ridiculous. On the good side, they didn't damage it.
Description of Work: In looking for a cleaner to take some spots out of a Burberry Jacket that I love, Parkway naturally came up as a good option to help with expensive clothes. I realized that the spots may not be able to be removed, but the jacket needed a general cleaning as well.

We took my daughter's bridal gown to Parkway for cleaning prior to the wedding. The dress is a satin and lace sample sale (great deal from Hitched--$3,000+ Judd Waddell dress for about $500!) and needed light cleaning all around and heavier touch up at the bottom of the dress and train. I have no idea whether the $600 bill from Parkway was reasonable or not but it was no problem given the deal on the dress. We picked the dress up from Parkway three weeks before the wedding and when we got home noticed that there were spots on the body of the dress that weren't there when we dropped off AND the lace was pulled apart from the satin in two obvious places. I brought the dress back when the place opened at 7am on Monday morning and was told by the employee that she couldn't talk to me about any problems and I'd have to wait for a phone call from the manager at 9:30am. When I didn't hear back by 11:30am, I called the manager (was put on hold for 20 minutes) who told me that she was suspicious that Parkway was responsible. She said that she'd have to and quot;investigate, and quot; that there were camaras in the cleaning area and she'd have to look at film, that Parkway took care of dresses from all over the country, blah, blah.... Never an and quot;I'm sorry, we'll take care of it...and quot; something one would expect from a place that was so highly recommended. And it got worse. I had to return the dress a second time for spots that showed up (again) in places where they weren't previously. And poor responsiveness again. The worst part of this experience was not the spots, or even the lace that needed to be resewn, it was the complete lack of customer service particularly on the part of the manager. As anyone with a wedding around the corner will attest, this is a very stressful time for the bride and all who are involved in preparations. To have a and quot;reputableand quot; company treat you like their mistakes are your fault is inexcusable. I strongly recommend anyone who needs work on a wedding dress to look elsewhere and save yourself a lot of unnecessary stress.

Response from Parkway Custom Drycleaning
This is Jon Simon, Parkway’s owner. Cleaning, restoring and preserving wedding gowns have been a Parkway specialty since our founding in 1926. I am happy to report that we clean and restore dozens of gowns each month and our customers are almost always thrilled with our advanced stain removal and hand pressing skills. Wedding gowns pose some of the toughest challenges in the business, and one of the greatest set of challenges is restoring a gown from a sample sale. These gowns can often be on display for up to 3 years (!) and can be tried on by dozens of brides during this period. They come in torn, delustered in numerous areas from repeated try-ons, and in all sorts of condition as one might expect. (In fact, we do a lot of gown cleaning for many area bridal boutiques BEFORE they even put them on a sample sale because they are in such bad condition.) In this case, we had not pre-cleaned this specific gown, but the gown HAD been taken to a seamstress for some alterations prior to our cleaning it. The seamstress apparently glued some lace down on the dress as part of the work she was performing. The pulled-apart lace that the customer is speaking about is due the glue not being the type that could withstand a dry or wet cleaning process. Some adhesives can be applied to clothing because they can withstand a washing or dry cleaning, and others will simply rinse away with even the gentlest process. The lace just became unglued. Regarding the stains that the customer is speaking about, they were due to delustering caused by excessive handling because this gown was a floor sample. Sample gowns often become quite soiled over time and this surface soil will mask the delustered areas. These delustered areas will become visible after a proper cleaning and pressing, as the surface soils have been cleaned away. Unfortunately there is very little that can be done to restore the sheen from a delicate silk or silk satin gown like this once it is delustered. This was all explained the customer and we even took it upon ourselves to sew the lace at no charge to the customer, even though the areas that pulled apart in cleaning were due to an incorrect adhesive being applied prior to our receiving the gown, as explained above. Sewing down the lace is much more time consuming and costly, but we at Parkway wanted to do all we could to make sure that the lace would not come apart at the wedding or when the gown was cleaned again. As far as the lack of responsiveness that the customer mentions, we almost always have a manager on duty during all of our operating hours (7am-7pm). But sometimes due to scheduling issues we might not have someone immediately available who needs to deal with a complicated situation, but this only lasts for an hour or two at most. We pride ourselves on returning all phone calls the same day, something I can say from experience that very few companies can claim. But we do prioritize and in this case we knew that we had quite a bit of time to work this out, so our manager did not immediately respond to the phone message when she arrived. The customer only gave us 2 hours from the time our manager came in to call her before she called us back. She didn’t call at 4 or 5pm – it was only 11:30 am. As far as being put on hold for 20 minutes, we never let a person stay on hold for more than a minute or two before asking them if they would like a return phone call. I know from personal experience with this customer that she preferred to stay on hold with me, waiting several minutes after being told that I was already on a call with another customer and would like to call her back. Our manager was most certainly helping another customer at the counter or on the phone with another customer when this call was received, but the customer must have also preferred to stay on hold until we could complete the prior transaction. To conclude, we pride ourselves on knowing our business and being very responsive. Sometimes things happen when a fabric is cleaned that cannot be anticipated, as happened in this situation due to an incorrect adhesive being used and because this gown was a sample that had been handled excessively. Sometimes things happen that we cause, and we stand behind what we do and work out proper compensation if we can’t rectify the situation to the customer’s satisfaction. At the end of this transaction, I am pleased to report that the bride was very happy with the results, as the gown was fully restored and even improved, and at no extra cost to the customer.

This was a bad experience; it didn't go well. Parkway didn't give an estiimate of cost until they had already taken the drapes to their shop. I had used this company once before, five years ago and had a good experience. The price now in 2012 is three times as much as it cost in 2007. They said on the day the the drapes return they would deliver them within a two hour period, but when I called today as requested the person I spoke to was rude and said they could not give two hour time period. This apparently was the first day of a new driver. An apology for the wait would have gone a long way. I essentially would just have to wait all day. I rearranged (inconveniently) my work schedule and waited until about 5:00 p.m. for the drapes. I feel ripped off. I should have done comparison shopping, but the thought of getting the drapes back and finding another place, a better value, before I needed them when we have house guests coming this weekend was more than I wanted to bother with. I paid top dollar for poor service.
Description of Work: They came and got one pair of lined drapes from a French door, one pair of sheers from a picture window and one pair of sheers from a medium sized window. They cleaned them and returned them.

Response from Parkway Custom Drycleaning
This is the owner of Parkway and we must object to this review. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service as for our well as cleaning and finishing, for which we have been awarded “Best Area Drycleaner” by Washingtonian and Bethesda magazines. We provided a price estimate, per the customer request, before we serviced the drapes and the customer was fine with the estimate. We would have happily returned the drapes without cleaning the drapes had they asked us to do so. We cleaned 6 panels, so the price per panel was about $95 each. We air dry and hand press all drapes (and all pieces for that matter), which prolongs the life of the fabric and minimizes texture change and shrinkage. This is much more time consuming but much better for the curtains. Second, the customer claims that the 2012 pricing was triple what they paid in 2007. Since 2007, our prices have been marginally increased once or twice, and no price has increased more than a total of about 10% over this period, so the customer cannot be comparing the exact same number and type of drapes. As far as the delivery wait times, we always tell our customers that if they call about 11am on the morning of the visit we can provide a 2 hour window. We pride ourselves on receiving mostly A’s and a few B ratings and believe this to be an aberration.

I took the dress and a cotton suit in for cleaning. The woman told me the suit would be $40 since they only did custom work. I chose to take it to my local spot. The dress I left, they did the work for the price promised in less than a week.
Description of Work: This company only does custom work, so they are expensive. But I took a gorgeous, beaded, feathered dress that said "spot clean only" and they custom cleaned it. it looks great! They are wonderful for custom work.

I have used this custom dry cleaner for five years after tiring of having nice clothes ruined/lost by a major chain in the DC area (you know who you are!). Is Parkway expensive? Yes. Do you get what you pay for? You bet! My clothes last twice as long which more than makes up for the price differential.

.They did a great job. Apparently they don't do it much anymore. They were expensive. We had an invasion of moth and I was out of the country and my tenant found this rug which was under his bed for a very long time and he showed it to me and I had some brand new sweaters that I had bought last year was riddled with holes. So we took everything all the wool article in the house outside in the winter and it was freezing. That is the only thing that kills moths. Then we brought them back in. But I had to mend the holes. Those are $120 sweaters so even if they charge $17 it is well worth it. They did a great job, picked up and brought back. Then they gave specific prices for each piece depending on the complexity and difficulty. That was nice. They will tell you in advance how much it would cost so you can decide. It is not a service that you find a lot anymore. They also re-weave fabrics like a wool suit. Re-weaving refers to repairing actual cloth like a good black suit. If you have nice dress or a outfit and you have a hole it can be re-woven. I will use them in the future.

They do really professional level cleaning and they are always very good. They are famous for really high-end dry cleaning. If you have something fragile or that you really care about, they are the place to go to. They are good at stain removal. A cat urinated on my suede jacket and they actually cleaned it three times and did special stuff to it, so now my daughter wears it; I can still smell it. Nobody else could have done as well as they did. They are extremely knowledgeable.

I was looking for a very good dry cleaner to clean a wool coat, and if that was well done, as a place at which to have wool rugs cleaned and tailoring done. I found Parkway Custom DRY Cleaning on Angie's list, looked at their website, and was impressed by the promised quality and range of services. The website was extensive and detailed and promised the best of care for both clothing and customer. Thanks to the previous review describing their high prices, I was cautious and emailed them asking for an estimate for cleaning the coat and for cleaning a rug. In the email, I also inquired about their advertised pickup and delivery service for the rug. Five days later, I had not received a reply, so I called to ask for the estimates. I was more than surprised to be told that they charge $67.80 to clean a 3/4 length woman's wool coat. I called again the next day to make sure that I had received the correct information. The second estimate for cleaning a woman's 3/4 length wool coat was $62.40. That associate's first question was "which designer" made my coat. Potential customers should be aware that Parkway never responded to my email inquiries and that such questions apparently must be asked by phone. Customers might avoid unpleasant surprises by requesting an estimate before dropping off anything for services by Parkway.
Description of Work: My search for a quality dry cleaner led me to this company. It did not respond to emails and quoted very high prices when I phoned for estimates. I did not have my items cleaned by this company.

We love them. They do a good job. They do my husband's shirts nice and crisp. We have seen other cleaners who shrink the collars but they are good and don’t shrink the shirts. They also do tailoring and they have really saved some of his suits. They have actually fixed his buttons and pockets; they have a very good tailor there. They always keep the clothes ready for pick up when they say they would. I think that the price is high but my husband doesn’t think so and the quality of their work is really good.
Description of Work: My husband uses them more than I do. He uses their services at least 2 or 3 times a month for his shirts. I use them for stains once in a while.

After searching for a dry cleaner the last year, I was excited when a colleague of mine recommended Parkway for a dress I needed altered. She told me that they were quick and did high quality work, even if it was a bit expensive. Thrilled, I called to find out when the seamstress was on duty and was told that she would be there until 3:30 during the week. I told the woman who answered that I could be there by 3:30. Traveling to Chevy Chase I hit traffic, and then made a wrong turn. I called to let them know I was running late, but would be there by 3:30. I was rudely told that I needed to be there by 3:30 and I said that I was trying my best. I walked in at 3:27. I admit that this was pretty late in the day, but still I wasn't prepared for the seamstress to gaze over at me, not even say hi, say, "I will not do it," and then look away. I looked at another person behind the counter to explain that I had called and I was here and she said "There is nothing I can do." There was no suggestion of coming back, no apology for the confusion about what time I could come, nothing. It was as if they just expected me to walk out and go along my way. I felt like a spec of dirt. I asked to speak with a manager. The manager was very nice and apologized for the staff's rude behavior, and explained that the seamstress is an independent contractor and not a part of the cleaners and that she had to leave at exactly 3:30 today. He acknowledged that it should have been better communicated when I called both times. He offered to give me a discount, but honestly I didn't want people who were deliberately so unkind to touch my clothes. I will never darken their doorstep again.
Description of Work: I needed the bust of a satin bridesmaid dress taken in. It's for my brother's wedding and wanted to go to a seamstress/drycleaners with a stellar reputation.

My disappointment was my own fault for not getting an estimate, though given that the items I dropped off were not "special care" I didn't feel compelled to. Plus I had been here before with a beaded dress and assumed that these items would be less than that. Clearly assuming was my problem. When I went to pay I was told the amount was 104. I asked if it included a $25 gift certificate that I had and was told yes. I then went to hand my credit card and realized that it might be $1.04, so asked the associate to confirm the amount. This is where it got weird, she basically laughed at me and said there is nothing here that costs a dollar! She apologized for laughing, but said that no one has ever asked that before. I told her I was shocked to hear that it was so much, and she broke down the cost of each item. I told her that was practically what they cost! Rather than offering a sympathetic comment like, yes we are costly, but offer great quality. I was made to feel like a fool.
Description of Work: I had a party dress and a tuxedo cleaned. Neither had anything unusual about them (no beading, special pleats, etc.) and were just dirty from normal wear (no stains.) When I went to receive the items everything was packaged to a very high standard with tissue filling out each item as necessary. They were retrieved quickly for me. There was no question that the end result of the items I received was excellent.

Overall they did a wonderful job. There was no way to tell that someone had altered the dress at all. The added buttons blended perfectly with the dress. My primary complaint was that the dress was not ready when promised and no one called to tell me otherwise. I found out when I went to pick it up and was told to come back in a few days. They did give me a small discount for my trouble.
Description of Work: I took my wedding gown for additional alterations. Parkway cleaners also added a couple of fabric covered buttons to the dress.
