My Old House Painting Inc

A supposed three week job dragged on for almost four months--it was not completed according to the contract but we wanted this company out of our lives. They correctly diagnosed some of the problems with the house, which is why we chose this contractor, but were completely unable to execute satisfactory repairs. The work was sloppy and unfinished, and weeks went by without seeing workers in the middle of the job. Basic tasks like covering the entire surface with paint did not occur; some repairs to stucco were improvised and not completed according to normal protocols; some issues outlined in the original contract not addressed at all.

His workers arrived (few days later than promised) and covered the door with a chemical stripper, came a day or two later to scrape away paint, and came again to reapply the chemical. They came a day or so later to clean off the chemical, and Mr. Haleem said he needed to do some of the remaining prep work himself. That was the last we saw of any of them. We called Mr. Haleem several times, and the first few times he assured us he'd be back the next day, etc. He never showed up, and eventually stopped taking out calls. We then called from a different number, got him to answer, and all he did was offer excuses. This company left the door half-stripped and a complete mess. They didn't clean up the paint shavings and dust inside our entryway. They also touched the inside of the door in several places while they had the stripping chemical on their hands, so the inside finish on the door was ruined. They left blobs of chemical and old paint to harden on our front stoop, and some of it is still there. As a final insult, Mr. Haleem and/or his workers took the brass door knocker for cleaning, and we never got it back. After he had started the job, he complained that he had underestimated what the job would entail. We should have realized then that he was going to bail out on the job. We had to hire another painter and pay extra to undo the damage of the first try, so we see it as being out more than $400 and a door knocker.

Very poorly! We still await return of our deposit for work that Mr. Haleem never showed up for. In addition, we are out approximately $500 due to hiring someone to redo work poorly done. He also failed to put down plastic on the floors and we're left with paint splatters in several rooms. He's now had his phone number disconnected and won't respond to our fed-ex demand letters.
