After looking at pre-owned homes for 3 years in Howard County, we drove out one day to see, what we thought, was another pre-owned home but it turned out to be an empty lot, ie. new construction home. We really did not want to have a home built, but after seeing the lot and it's location and getting praises on the builder from our agent/friend, we decided to explore the possibility. From the get go, our sales lady was very helpful. We were told the lot we picked was the premium lot of them all and we knew that. For $10k, they would hold it for us for 2 weeks while we decided. Fully refundable. We looked at some other homes by Mitchell and Best (MB)and were very impressed with them. Although we were told that MB does not discount much if any, we were able to get a very good deal because we were the first buyer in the small community. Every step of the way they were very helpful and very accommodating. We inspected the work nearly everyday after work and whenever we had a question or concern, it was always addressed. The project managers on site were fantastic. Extremely helpful and accommodating. Again, on one of the many evenings we stopped by the house, the framing contractor manager was in the dimly lit house pressing on a section of sub floor. We asked him what he was doing? He explained there was a creak in the floor and he was trying to eliminate it. He asked me if I wouldn't mind stepping and pushing down on the area while he went in the basement to locate the source. I couldn't even hear any noise! On many other late evenings, he was in the house inspecting and correcting small issues. The attention to detail was very impressive. After occupancy, a few sub-contractors came out to answer questions on, for instance, the well system. The contractor told us all of the equipment we had was top quality and we needed nothing extra. He would have loved to sell us more, but we didn't need anything. When the painters were in, we found them inspecting the walls with a giant light to look for any imperfections or nail bumps. Very impressed. Anything we found, they allowed us to mark and the painter came back and touched up. The stone front we chose was not a veneer, but full quarried stone. We noticed a home across the street being built by another custom builder used fake veneer. Our home is like a fortress. The final product is amazing. I told my wife I will never move again, this was it. I am very thankful I chose MB as I know I am in a very well built home that was made to last. The fixtures, HVAC, siding, roofing etc etc were all top quality- never cut corners. When the basement windows came close to the ground level, due the layout, they built a custom drainage system enclosed with landscape quality pressure treated lumber. Looks beautiful and no extra charge. We didn't even ask to have it done. We just dropped by one day, saw it and inquired about it. They felt it was a good idea and took care of it. We did pay more than other similar homes, but this is our biggest purchase, our home and we certainly did not want this to just be good or OK. It is excellent. MB was also very accommodating in having our basement customized as we wanted. A few of my wife's co-workers are having homes built and they are shocked to hear how accommodating MB has been compared to their builders. It really is pleasure to come home to this wonderful house they built, knowing we made the right choice. No second guessing. I am more than happy to give them 5 stars. Thank you Mitchell and Best!
