Electrician Steve arrived on time, worked quickly with a positive attitude. He communicated clearly about installation and repair quirks and made recommended solutions. Despite a parts delay, and an old rusted framework the entire job was completed in 2 hours. M.R. prices were a bit higher than that quoted by some competitors, but I got the best price given the high quality.

Our experience with them was good. They did a good job of what they did. What I didn't like is that they charged us an hour to research a power rod that is supposed to be done by Pepco. They charged us for that. One of the workers told me that they charged us for fixing the kitchen light. When he looked at it, he said that he had to replace the inside. He told us that he had the part in his van and he would give it to us. Right before he left he asked me for another check to pay for the part. I did not argue with him. He was not professional. We would use them again in the future.

When they came out to give me the estimate, they said I could have monorail lights in the kitchen with the pendants hanging down. I spoke with another company that said my ceiling was too low so this probably couldn't be done. The monorail with the pendants hanging down wouldn't give me the general lighting I wanted. I decided to use recessed lighting. I showed the company where I wanted the dimmer switch put on the wall and they said I could have it placed where I wanted it. I told them what time I could have work done in my condo, at 9 am. Someone from the company called me and told me they were running late. The gentleman that was on his way to my home told me that the managed told him he had between 9 and 10 am to arrive at my home, but that he wouldn't be at my home until 10:30. I called him back and left him a message letting him know this was uncceptable, since we agreed that he would be here at 9 am. I talked to the manager, who said that I had told them to cancel reschedule, which I hadn't. The gentleman came to my house about and hour to an hour and a half later. He apologized for being late, which he said he must have misunderstook my voicemail. I asked him if he still had my voicemail so that I could listen to it. He said he deleted my voicemail. He got to work after that and made a few mistakes. He made the first recessed light hole and he went to make the second one, and he was talking to someone on the phone. Whatever tool he was using hit him in the mouth. He said he would have to make 2 more holes because of this. He informed me that he had to talk to me. He informed me that the dimmers couldn't go on the wall I wanted them to because the wall was too solid. We then agreed on where to place the dimmer switch. I had to leave, so the gentleman called me when he was done. I asked him about the repositioning of the light in the dining room, since he hadn't gotten to this job. He said he had to come back to finish it. In the meantime, I didn't like where the dimmer was positioned in the wall, and they told me that this would be an extra charge. They agreed that they would offset the fee that they would charge me to move the dimmer with the work I had to have done to patch and repairs the 2 holes left in the ceiling. I am pleased with the work, even though there was there was a lot of back and forth. It made the job very stressful. The reason I wouldn't use this company again in the future is because I feel that the company was frustrated with me, as well as I was frustrated with them, which wouldn't make for a good working experience.
Description of Work: They installed my recessed lighting in my living room and kitchen and they repositioned a light in my dining room.

There is a two appointment process. First, an estimator comes out, looks at the work to be done, gives an estimate, and schedules a time for service. Second, the actual electrician comes out to perform the work. The personnel were on time for both appointments. Doug, the electrician, was courteous, professional, and did good work. The service was completed more or less in the time estimated, and for the price estimated. The only issue was that you need to arrange to be home for two appointments, instead of one, making the overall process a little more inconvenient than it needs to be for simple tasks. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

I am glad to hear that you were happy with your experience with us. I am sure Doug will be happy to get this referral in his records. Your opinion counts and is important to us. We do strive to do what is best for each individual customer. Just for a heads up you do have an option to get the work done without an estimate, which would keep you to only one appointment, you could choose to have a technician come out to do the work on a Time and Material basis. It depends on the scope of work, which way would be the best bang for your buck. Again thank you for your positive review. We look forward to hearing from you in the future.

We hired MR to put in a new switch box and, several lights in the basement, and some GFI plugs in restrooms and kitchen. We signed a contract for the box and then did the other work on an hourly basis. Chad thought it would be 3-4 hours of work. The electricians showed up and did the box and some of the other work the first day. Then the electrician came back for two more days billing a total of 8 hours. Six hours of the work were on day two when he completed most of the other jobs and two hours were billed the following day, even though he never showed up for only a few minutes, but did not have the tools/materials to finish the job. My wife noted that he had billed 6 hours on the second day, even though he was only there for four hours. All told, my wife noted about 3-4 hours when the electrician claimed he worked, but was outside talking on his cell phone or on long lunches. About a week later, we called MR because the work still was not done. We were informed that the electrician's truck had been stolen, along with his notes and records, but not to worry as he had a great memory for the time worked. There was just the problem of the $300-$400 discrepancy in what we think the electrician worked and what he says he worked. We paid MR for the majority of the work, but refused to pay the $300 discrepancy noting that we just did not think that the electrician had worked those hours. MR and I sent several emails back and forth in which they refused to take the lower sum even though they had no records to back up their claims of hours worked (I guess the truck was never recovered?). We thought we had settled the issue, but several months later we were informed that our credit had taken a hit because we were in collections for the sum. Needless to say, we were a bit angry at that treatment, which is essentially blackmail to pay. MR did great work, but we have issue with the way the hourly billing seemed to include hour long telephone conversations, two hour lunches, and an hour long hop out to take care of some personal business. Given that all the electrician?s records disappeared, we can?t really understand how Chad was so darn certain as to the hours worked. If you deal with MR, make certain everything is in the estimate. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO BILL BY THE HOUR! Otherwise, the work done was excellent.
Description of Work: Installed heavy up with new breaker box. Installed 3 GFI plugs Installed 2 outdoor lights Insulated 1 exposed wire in attic fan unit. Installed 3 flouresent lights in basement (supplied by customer) Changed 1 outdoor receptacle into GFI receptacle.

Response from M R Electricians Inc
Not sure exactly how to respond to this. We have already gone through the Better Business Bureau. After review of the situation, our paperwork, the letters, emails, notes on phone calls to the member the Better Business Bureau responded to close the complaint. Thank you for the A on quality rating. As for the discrepancy it was actually $170.00, which you did not pay for over four months. As we stated before, this was an odd situation, one that I hope never happens again. We went through the motions, we sent you documentation of everything, we sent letters, we spoke with her, and we were threatened by her many times. She threatened to slander us all over the internet. If there was a problem with our services or charges, it should have been brought to our attention immediately instead of waiting until your bill was way overdue. When you have avoided our phone calls, and we had to threaten collection, collection is our only recourse. It seems to me that maybe you just didn’t have the money to pay and where looking for some excuse. You should voice your concerns before your bill is in collections. As for your credit report, we have no way of affecting you. We never contacted a collections agency, we tried to collect from you ourselves through constant phone calls. We cannot affect your credit report without putting your job at a collections agency or going to court. So unfortunately there must be something else affecting your credit report. If I where you I would look a little closer at the source of you bad credit score. I do apologize for the odd situation that this was. M. R. Electricians, Inc. has worked on reputation alone for over 13 years. We do treat our customer’s with the utmost respect and our employees with the same utmost respect. We do give free estimates which include the entire scope of the job. If a customer wants more work when we are there, that is done on a time and material basis. A ticket is then given to the customer for the work performed and the materials used. Sometimes a customer decides to add a plug or have us fix a switch, install a ceiling fan or whatever else while we are there doing proposal work, which is on a time and material basis unless an estimate is requested.

They were asked to install four ceiling fans, three of which required holes cutting in the ceiling and new switches in the wall. The electrician worked diligently and did an excellent job. Good clean-up and overall a very professional service.

They were very prompt. I liked the guy, he got right at it. I added a few things on that weren't on the original list when I called & it was no problem. It was good & they were neat. I liked them a lot. I am out of their area and there was a travel charge. I'm not sure if that is normal, but I knew of that before. I think compared to other companies & hourly rates, they were what I expected and what other companies charge so that was fine. I absolutely would hire them again for electrical work in the future.
Description of Work: They came & installed new outlets, installed hardwire to light for kitchen counter & put an outside outlet in. They also reinstalled a washer/dryer outlet, a did a lot of different odds & ends.

Scheduler was friendly and set a date for work within one week. Electrician and helper were friendly and professional. Performed all work within 2.5 hours, and left area perfectly clean. Only one tiny drill hole to do all the wiring. I have not priced out electrical work, but labor was billed at $85/hr for electrician and $65/hr for helper which seems fair.
