I had several small jobs that I wanted to do. He provided an itemized estimate so i could pick and choose those things that I could do in the short and long term. He also stuck to those estimates. He let me know when he was going to be at the house and what I needed to provide. Very professional!
Description of Work: Ferney put in a brick sidewalk for me and did so in a very professional manner-- concrete foundation and basketweave brick pavers. He also replace 2 window casings and the woodwork was excellent as was the painting job.

I was really, really happy with Ferney. His price was very reasonable. In fact, it was lower than the insurance estimator said it would cost to do our repairs and far less than the other estimate I received. Ferney was on time for his estimate appointment. His wife kept in close contact with me regarding scheduling our job. I appreciated the communication, as the job was delayed because of Superstorm Sandy. Ferney performed or supervised most of the work that was done. He had a team of about 3 folks who also worked with him. Although the work wasn't necessarily done really quickly, it was really well done. I already have a list of projects in mind to have him do for us in the future. A great find and someone I would recommend to anyone!!

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE - Ferney is knowlegable in his trades, respectful, professional, and reasonably priced. Ferney (who's English speaking, but his primary language is Spanish) used to work alone but now has some experienced, regular help and also a few apprentices which he always watches very closely (never leaving alone) and teaches. Ferney's wife, Myrna, works the business end, and she's often the one who responds to any e-mails. She came out to meet us one evening when Ferney was dropping by to attach the railing after its stain had dried. Ferney is always glad to come out and give estimates for any work that you may want done, after which you may choose at your own leisure what you may or may not want to proceed with. His prices were very reasonable to us. Ferney is also all about making the customer happy. He instructs his apprentices in his work ethic as well. He says that if you ever notice any problem or any developments that arise with previous work, he is willing to come out to check on it. I already have other jobs in mind for which I'd want to call upon Ferney to do, perhaps in the Spring, and I've recommended his services to a coworker.
Description of Work: 1) Custom built and painted a small portable handicap ramp for wheelchair access in and out of detached garage (to avoid the raised ledge). 2) Power washed and stained/sealed our side and back decks as well as sealing one side for water prevention near the house. 3) Sealed up a cut-out hole in the detached garage where previous owner installed an air conditioner without attending to waterproofing it. 4) Installed a second interior stair railing going downstairs, matching the one already on the opposite side, for handicap accessibility. 5) Shaved off/shortened two interior doors after another company installed carpets in our home. 6) Replaced laundry pump system and laundry sink faucet.

In spite of a few initial hiccups (Mr Leal was late for our estimate appointment because he got lost but didn't think of calling me to say he was going to be late, miscommunication with Mr Leal's assistant), Mr Leal turned out to be a very personable and responsible professional. He was on time on the agreed date and performed the work (actually he didn't do the job himself but had one of his workers do it) to my satisfaction, at a very reasonable price. After getting an estimate from Mr Leal I had gotten another estimate from another company (also found on Angie's list). That company's estimate was simply outrageous, three time as much as Mr Leal's. For example, the other company's representative who came over told me even before properly looking at the bathroom door that it had to be replaced. Only when he saw me laugh in disbelief did he agree that it could be repaired. His estimate for repairing the door was $300. Mr Leal repaired it for $80. The hinges just needed some tightening and straightening. In conclusion, I would say that Mr Leal can be trusted, that he knows his business and that he is a good professional. The only negative aspect was that communication in English with his assistant was sometimes not as straightforward as it should be, mostly for linguistic reasons. I would advise Mr Leal to improve that aspect of his business.
Description of Work: The ceiling in the master bedroom had been damaged by a major water leak from the neighbor's heat pump upstairs. It needed to be repaired and repainted on about 10% of the surface. In addition, the bathroom door needed to be adjusted because it didn't close properly.

Fernie and Desi were punctual and got to work immediatly. Desi did a fantastic job and even when there was a significant obstacle in getting to part of the trim. He didn't let it slow him down or comprimise on the quality of the work. All the trash was cleaned up and removed. I would definitely recommend this company and will use them anytime I have a project.

It went great, overall. Mr. Leal and his crew made a total of three visits to our home to get the job done. Each time, they left it clean with minimal dust or other debris. They were an hour late for one appointment and an hour early for another, so I suppose that evens it out for me! The work they did was really great. The walls look flawless and the paint job was really well done. Again, very clean and no paint splatters anywhere. Really happy with the work and service offered. I would definitely use Mr. Leal for any future work needed.
Description of Work: Our kitchen wall had cracks and peeling paint and wallpaper. A wall in our bathroom was also cracked. The cracks were filled, peeling paint fixed, and repainted.

Mr. Leal was entirely professional from the moment I contacted him until the work was completed. I received an e-mail and text message to confirm that he would come to prepare an estimate. He showed up on time, sent me an estimate as promised within 3 days and began the work two weeks later. I received an e-mail and text one week before he started to confirm the start date. The work was first rate an exceeded my expectations in all regards. The work they did on the read porch cleaned off 10 years of dirt and age and made our back yard look like new again. I highly recommend Mr. Leal and plan to use him again in the near future.
Description of Work: Mr. Leal completed four projects for us. First, he repaired our garage which had been damaged when a trash truck ran into it. He replaced the broken wood frame, reattached the garage door assembly, painted it and replaced rotten wood and shingles on the roofing. Second, he replaced the vinyl tile floor in our basement bathroom, installed a vanity/faucet and a new toilet. Third, he repaired our back porch/fencing and power washed the entire rear porch. Fourth, he repaired a cabinet drawer that was not closing properly.

They were extremely unprofessional. The woman that made the appointment with me has terrible English skills and it was a real struggle to talk to her. Then, as mentioned above, they never even showed up for the appointment. And then, instead of trying to make it better by coming out today, they want me to wait another few days or a week for them to show up. I will never try to work with them again.
Description of Work: I called them to come and give a quote for some drywall and electrical work. They set up an appointment for two days later (it was for 6:30 pm last night). I rushed home to meet them and waited around the house for hours, and they never showed up and I never heard from them. Today, I got a text message with an apology, and an offer of coming out saturday or next week. I explained that I would be away for those days and offered to have someone come out tonight, and they said that wont' come until saturday or next week.

It went well. Mr. Leal was punctual, communicated clearly and often, and finished all the work in one day. I had him come out for an estimate. His schedule only allowed for him to come out a week or so after the initial contact. The estimate took a few business days to put together then once I signed off on it, we scheduled the work for a week or so later. He arrived on time and he and one of his men spent the day finishing the job.
Description of Work: Ferney's team did a number of small projects that had been lingering in my house. They: -Fixed kitchen sink -Regrouted bathroom tile -Re-caulked two tubs -Re-painted two walls -Drywall repair

Punctual, professional, and very, very good quality. Looking at the door, you would never know the frame was broken. I cannot recommend them highly enough, and I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Mr Leal custom-made two pieces to repair a broken door frame. At the visit for the estimate, he took a sample so that when he arrived to do the work, the wood was pre-stained to match the existing ;molding He and an assistant measured, cut, and installed the pieces in an hour.

Mr Leal did a great job. He came out to the house to look at the job and provide a free estimate. From when he looked at the work to when i got an estimate was a few days, however that is understandable considering he does all the work himself and i'm sure he was busy with other jobs. From when i approved the estimate it took about 2 weeks to schedule the work. In the meantime he was fantastic about confirming every step via email, so i never had to wonder- is he coming, when is he coming, does he still remember my small job. On the day he was schedules to come, he said that he would arrive at 8:00, and at exactly 8:00 the doorbell rang. He arrived with two helpers, who did a fantastic job. I had made sure to get extra paint in the color of the walls and ceiling since i knew he'd have to cut into the drywall to run the wires - however they took such care that they almost didn't use any of the paint. Before they started they moved all the furniture and covered it with plastic cloths. They took care to cover the floors as well. Before they left the moved everything back and cleaned up. The work the did was perfect. The fans and lights work great and the shelf that they installed- they cut it and painted it so that it completely matches the other shelves in the pantry and it looks like it was there all along. Overall they did a great job, we felt the price was very fair (we were charged exactly what he quoted us), and they were very clean and respectful of our house and items. Mr. Leal found a perfect medium between making sure to take his time and do a really nice job on everything (the kind of job i would do in my own house if i had the skills that he has :-)), and completing everything in one day. They were here until 7:00pm, but when they left everything was done. I would not hesitate to use him again for any projects that we have in the future.

I had a very positive experience with Mr. Leal and his team and plan to use him again for future home projects. Mr. Leal came out and gave me an estimate on the work within a couple of days of contacting him, and once I agreed to the price it took about 2 weeks to get the work scheduled. I had already purchased the screen door, but needed help choosing the right size/material for the inside door. Mr. Leal sent me pictures of some options, and once I chose the one I wanted he purchased it and brought it with him on the first day of the job. Mr. Leal completed the work over the course of 3 days. He and his team showed great attention to detail, and were very meticulous and careful in how they went about the work. For example, when hanging the tv, they took the time to cut out a large piece of drywall to make sure they knew exactly what was in the wall, and where the studs and wires were (this was important, given the breaker box is on the other side of the wall). And after hanging it, he repaired the drywall and repainted the entire wall...not just the area where he had worked. It's amazing how clean and professional everything looks.
Description of Work: - installed 2 new back doors (inside fiberglass door and outside screen security door) - installed dimmer switch - regrouted and recaulked 2 bathrooms/tubs - mounted flat screen tv on wall - filled cracks and painted front porch and front steps - Patched a 2 foot square hole in a wall w/ drywall.

Ferney was great. He re-hung our front storm door, which had fallen off its hinges. Two larger companies (also highly rated here) never responded to my request, but Ferney quickly arranged a visit for an estimate. He and his assistant re-hung the door without a problem, and now it works like new. In addition to his courtesy and professionalism, Ferney is resourceful and was able to explain the tradeoffs between various approaches. I highly recommend Ferney and look forward to working with him again!

Arrived late the first day and explained that he had to get another crew working. Went right to work, with an assistant, on the plaster repair and baseboard work. Very professional in approach and, unlike many handymen, well equipped with all tools, including power tools, to do the work. Cleanup after the work was done was meticulous, including some minor sawdust on the deck that would have blown away anyway. Because I did not know the color of the existing bannister, Mr Leal brought three samples on a piece of oak to determine the best match. We selected one that was almost perfect. He returned a couple of days later with the bannister all finished and ready to cut and install. As with the initial visit, care was taken to protect rugs etc from dirt. The installation was completed in a couple of hours. The quality of the work on all three tasks was exceptional , beyond what you might expect from a handyman. I highly recommend Ferney Leal.

Mr. Leal and his crew are fantastic! He responds to e-mail so scheduling and communication about the job were very easy.He and his crew are very prompt and they work a long day if necessary. Since I had taken a day off work, he made sure that they finished all of the interior work on that day, and came back (when I didn't need to be there) for the exterior work. They worked from 9am until nearly dark the 2nd day of the project, as the restoration of the decorative pediment over the front door turned out to be a HUGE job. The rot beneath the paint was extensive and he showed me a smartphone video he took of the carpenter ant infestation in the wood of which I hadn't even been aware! He rebuilt the pediment, doing the woodworking on site, beautifully--looks original and the paint match and workmanship are perfect. I was so impressed with the care he took that I paid him extra even though hedidn't ask for anything additional. I plan to use Leal Handyman Services for all my jobs in the future!
