Very bad customer service, I initially spent a lot of my time with H&C Construction but at the end they never finalized the proposal because when their Project Manager took over, he just stopped communicating/ignoring me although I attempted to talk to proceed multiple times. Below is the last email I sent to H&C Construction (with some minor edits for more context): ``` Hello Luis/H&C Construction, Did you ever plan to answer my previous email a week ago? I'm ok if you/your company doesn't feel like continuing this project with me. All you need to do is to just tell me so that I can move forward with other contractors, instead of just IGNORING / REFUSING to communicate. This is very UNPROFESSIONAL. I do have 3 - 4 contractors with competitive prices for this project, but I chose H&C Construction (I did intend to move forward with you on this project) because John Cayani was very professional, and you have quite good reviews on both Google and Yelp. However, ever since Luis took over as the Project Manager after John left the company, all I have been experiencing is your UNPROFESSIONALISM. Impossible to contact since the beginning, either through calling, or texting, or emailing. After a lot of emails in 3 - 4 days, Samuel was finally able to help me to get Luis to communicate (???). All I asked of Luis is to confirm details before we sign the estimate/contract, which he initially did NOT intend to do when taking over from John Cayani. I suspected that Luis would not have the right idea of the project, just based on the paper estimate (who could?). This indeed was proven true, when he came over he was not aware of a lot of details. After factoring all the details into the new estimate, now it's 30% more expensive ($14.5K to $19K). If I did not insist on having him over to look at the project before starting it, this 30% cost increase would have been forced on me after I decide to start with H&C. Is this how H&C manages projects, having a bad estimate and later forcing customers to pay this much of the cost increase? But worse, the new estimate does NOT explain anything about the 30% cost increase (!) - NO TRANSPARENCY. After I emailed to ask Luis in the previous email, he's been ignoring me for 1 week now. He used this excuse a lot of times before for not communicating, which is that he does not have phone access from Friday - Sunday from 8AM - 10PM. What a LAME / UNPROFESSIONAL excuse! No phone access during a time period, you can still respond later, sometimes just saying something quick like "I'll get back to you on Monday". I totally understand when I ask, he doesn't always have time to answer right away, but it's just ignored completely for days/weeks, every single time I tried to talk to him. I also messaged him, and until this day, he still never answered - See attached image. I'm not sure about other customers' experience with H&C Constructions that gave the good reviews, but I'd be sure to want your future potential customers to know about my experience with H&C on Google and Yelp. I found H&C via Yelp, and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they responded to my initial phone call. I had originally intended to get several quotes, but having been in the construction industry I am good with pricing, and their initial quote came in exactly where I thought it should be for quality work at a good price. From my initial phone call to a finished basement office and guest bedroom, the entire process took only 4-5 weeks. A very professional project manager was assigned to me and provided an easy single point of contact for the whole process. H&C uses buildertrend website which kept me informed and also made very clear when something I asked for could incur additional expense. There were no hidden fees/expenses or scope creep, which I know can be a big problem. All additional services were clearly quoted and submitted for approval before implementing. The workers that came every day were clean, professional and friendly and I felt comfortable with them being in my home. At the end of the project, everything looks great and is just as I asked it to be. I will definitely recommend H&C to my friends and will be sure to use them on a future project.

I generally don't like to post negative reviews, preferring instead to work with the firm or person, and come to a reasonable agreement. In this case, I have tried to come to a reasonable agreement, and the owner has not been interested in coming up with a resolution. I wanted to use this firm to remodel a couple of bathrooms, and obviously needed some designs first. I was a little skeptical about the design side of their firm, and so before giving them my deposit, I asked the owner what they would do if I did not like the designs. They assured me they would refund my money back. Well, as you can imagine, I ultimately did not like the design, and while I was working with the designers, I realized that the company was not reliable. However, trying to be reasonable and knowing they did some work for the designs, I offered to pay a reasonable amount for the small amount of work that they did. Note that the "designs" were not useful and they really did not design anything - they just took whatever I said, and converted it into a 3-D picture. No measurements, no materials. I provided all of the information, usually several times, for all the work they claim to have done. Any attempt to come to a reasonable settlement has been ignored. I cannot recommend this firm, and if you decide to use them, I would definitely recommend that you not give them any money until you are satisfied that they can do the job they state they can do.

For initial visit out to my home to evaluate the job, the technician called off and I was told that they could come the following day in the morning. For that following day, they never showed up and I never got a call back from anyone nor did I ever hear back from them again,

H&C construction is by far the most professional contractor team I have worked with! After buying one of those typical DC row houses which needed major renovations, I interviewed 15 different construction companies (as I had bad experiences working with other contractors in other cities and heard horror stories about DC contractors). H&C team gave me a fair quote, and the quote was very detailed. I ended up hiring them. H&C team did a great great job with our home. They added powder room to the main level, remove some walls to create an open concept in the living room and kitchen area and added full bathroom in our basement. The project required permits and architectural work. They took care of everything without us being involved and charging us extra. The staff is licensed, insured and super professional. They were super fast and accommodating. I love the end result and more importantly there was no surprises in the process. I highly recommend them and will def hire them again.

We recently hired H&C Construction to do a long list of remodeling projects on a home we purchased. They redid our kitchen, primary bathroom, back deck, refinished our hardwood floors, and more. From start to finish, the team at H&C was professional, reliable, and did top-notch work. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is evident in every aspect of the remodel. We liked the work so much that we expanded our scope with them a few times during the project, and they STILL finished everything on time and on budget (which itself is rare in the construction world). And the quality was outstanding! We will 100% be using them again in the future. We couldn't be happier with the work, and we would highly recommend them to anyone in need of a contractor.

We looked for a contractor for months and were happy to find H&C Construction - they were a great mix of knowledgeable and could communicate what they would do well. Pros: Craftsmanship Friendly Quick to Respond Average Cost (Outstanding Work) Licensed and Insured Efficient Start to Completion The craftsmanship of the work (mostly tiling, some woodwork, plumbing and painting) was absolutely amazing. It has been done for several weeks now and we haven't found anything wrong. The remodel timeline took about 2 weeks (as they communicated with us beforehand). My bathroom now looks like a showpiece from the Home and Garden magazine. Cons: Communication! Sometimes the guys would arrive confused because no one told them what the design was or what was expected of them that day. We had to piece together the measurements and create a mockup of what we wanted - something I thought H&C would do for us considering the price. This wasted precious time and left us and the guys confused and frustrated. We also didn't receive a parts list so there were several times that we didn't have all the necessary items we needed - therefore causing us to drive to Floor and Decor (the company that H&C uses for tile/grout, etc.) 4 separate times (a 2 hour drive round trip). The owner, Luis, would stop by every now and then to make sure the work was going well. Overall, I would use H&C Contracting again and I would recommend them to my friends. They did excellent work, just be prepared for a bit of frustration with their communication. (We did give feedback to them on their communication and they said they were working on it and were hiring additional personnel to help with design work.)

H&C did an excellent job. Their crew was experienced and very competent. They showed up when they said they would and communicated effectively with us. Our phone calls were returned promptly. The price was reasonable, the lowest of three bids we solicited. I highly recommend this company.

Fair. Significant difference between what estimator and contractor proposals [scope reduction]. Work quality was less than expected, requiring remediation on a 2nd date. Poor communication between crew, general contractor and scheduling office resulted in 2 no-show events on the part of the general contractor, despite direct reassurance & agreement with client. 1 week later still pending adjusted bill.

We were very happy with the efficiency and quality of the work. Both the work team and office staff were kind and responsive. Highly recommend.

From start to finish, H&C was great to work with. I was between them and one other contractor to remove my old exterior shutters and hang new ones, when I learned that we were going to get up to 5 feet of snow within two days. They fit me in to come out the very next morning and beat the snow. When I asked if they could also change some exterior light bulbs, while they were there, they said "No problem." Their prices are competitive, the work is quality, they cleaned up after themselves well, AND the staff I've encountered are all exceptionally lovely to deal with. Highly recommend.

We worked with Luis and his team on an extensive kitchen remodel that included the removal of a wall to connect the kitchen and dining room. Throughout the process, Luis ensured that everything was done exactly as we wanted, and the team showed a consistent attention to detail – even pointing out and fixing problems that we would have missed. His team finished on time and on budget, and we couldn’t be happier with the final result. A good contractor can be hard to find, and we were lucky to have found H&C Construction and will not hesitate to use them for future projects.

Quick response to my initial inquiry, Quality work completed quickly and at a reasonable price. Staff friendly and professional. Due to my mistake, they were required to make a second trip out for parts, about which they were very gracious and accommodating. I will definitely call H&C for future work.

We did a floor to ceiling kitchen remodel and after interviewing 4 companies, made the decision to go with H&C. It was the right decision. The price was very competitive compared to other companies and the service was professional, timely and responsive. Luis did a great job with the project management and we’re very satisfied with the end result. Our kitchen looks great and we will hire H& C for future projects.

It went fantastic. My initial estimate was for shed rot repair, door rot repair, and concrete work. Then I realized my roof was leaking again and asked H&C to estimate a new roof + repairs to interior damage. They began the original work within a 2 days of the estimate and finished in just over a day. They completed the rest (roof, interior plaster and ceiling repairs) within about 9 days more - not bad considering that the roof materials had to be ordered & there were a few days of rain. Speaking of that rain, I was concerned about getting more water damage (before the new roof was installed) and H&C came almost immediately to tarp my roof. It was a huge relief to me. The workers were professional, punctual, and considerate, they cleaned up after themselves well, and they were careful while working inside my home. This work occurred during the pandemic and they wore masks while they worked inside and outside. This company gained my trust early on through positive interactions with me (they took time to answer my questions and talk through the work to be done). It kept my trust through the end. H&C exceeded my expectations.

Every step from estimating the cost to completion of the job was executed in an efficient and professional way. We are pleased. And would hire H&C again.

We hired H&C construction to remodel our main living space. Luis and his crew came in demolished our kitchen offered design suggestions and started to hit the ground running. After two months of working everything came out the way we expected and we love our new kitchen and living space. Luis and his crew Even after the service was done came to address some small issues. Over all we are pleased with their work and would hire again.

Poorly. They couldn't even do a simple bathtub caulking job correctly and had to come back a second time to re-do They also charged higher than their quote, including $30 in materials charges for a tube of caulk.

Alex, the handyman did an excellent job.

Alex was the technician who came over and took care of the diagnostics, materials and fixing. He worked quietly and efficiently and he did a nice clean and thorough job. I don't have a reference of expenses for this kind of work and it felt a bit over priced to me, but was ultimately worth it for my mental sanity. We are still awaiting quotes for a few other things we need to fix around the house.

Luis and his team did an amazing job for us. They are really professional and have good attention to detail. The floors and baseboard were well protected. Luis provided good suggestions, and even fixed some extra details that weren't included in the original quote! We are really happy with the result, totally recommended.

Excellent as usual. This is the third time I have used H&C and, once again, I have been thrilled with the professionalism and quality of work provided. Luis come within two days of my inquiry to provide an inspection. The estimate was sent by the end of that day. Work commenced one week later and was completed within three days. The workers arrived punctually every morning and observed social distancing/masking procedures. I plan to use them on all projects going forward.
