It was such a relief that there was someone out there to help with this overwhelming task since we did not live nearby. Laurie did in a short time what would have taken me years. Her hard work took a lot of pressure off of my husband and I. The estate sale went well. The home is up for sale now, and looks gorgeous thanks to Laurie. Not only did she help us out immensely, we also ended up with extra money for my Aunt. She went above and beyond what was expected, we were quite pleased.
Description of Work: I needed to clear / clean out the home of my late Uncle and elderly Aunt to get it ready for sale.

It was excellent. My husband and I downsized our 2 bedroom condo in the historic district of Frederick MD; we had to liquidate our personal possessions and then move to Florida with a loaded 6 x 8 foot trailer and our SUV to a furnished home. We hired Laurie Zook and her team to setup, price, market, and sell the balance of our property including our antique furnishings, glass collection, rugs, household goods and my tools. She held a three day estate sale. Despite adverse circumstances outside of our control, such as city ordinances and prohibitions, signage restrictions, problem parking, and a conflicting city event, the team pulled out a very successful result. Following the completion of the sale, Laurie packed up and moved out all remaining goods to charity and the remainder to my daughter's home. Regardless of torrential rains and the unanticipated hardship of Habitat of Humanity Restore cancelling pick up of donations on the last day of April, Laurie and her team made sure our condo was left empty and swept, assuring me that I would not be penalized for another month's rent. An example of the extra effort Laurie made included finding extra profit in an Oriental rug she personally marketed to a third party outside of the sale, and additionally, the sale of an expensive specialty tool system she successfully marketed on line.
Description of Work: Laurie Zook, the owner, helped downsize our residence by having a three day auction. She charged 30% of the total revenue.

Description of Work: They removed items from our house which we were preparing to put on the market. We had items for donation and for trash. Lauri Zuk and her crew went through the items and sorted them and then took them to a donation center and to the dump. The entire process took about 10 hours.

After 25 years in our home, we were downsizing, first to a rental apartment and eventually we will move to our retirement home. We took several items with us (mostly to a storage unit), but there were many items that we just couldn't take with us. We hoped to find many things a home, and Laurie helped us do that. We contacted more than one company. A representative from the other company arrived 2 hours early for our appointment and then hurriedly walked through the home telling us that our things would not sell. After all, his company had "hundreds of people" come to their sales and those "hundreds of people" would be disappointed. I think he told us that about 4 times in the 15 minutes he was in our house. Laurie, however, was punctual and never tried to tell us that this sale wasn't worth it to us or to her. She was very professional and clear about price, what she would do, and what we had to do. She took pictures of a lot of our items, advertised for us, priced everything, and conducted the sale. The final day of the sale was Sunday, and by the end of the day on Tuesday everything was gone. Our piano found a home with a neighbor and we didn't have to lift a finger to clear out the house or deal with the sale in any way. Laurie took a lot of stress off of our shoulders, and for that we are very grateful.
Description of Work: Advertised and conducted a moving/estate sale as we were downsizing and moving out of our house of 25 years. She also arranged for all remaining items to be donated or otherwise disposed of within a couple of days of the last day of the sale.

Laurie took care of a task for us that we were dreading having to do, and made our lives much easier in doing so. My husband is the executor of his mother's estate, but he found the task of disposing of those of her possessions we could not keep very emotionally difficult. Laurie took that burden off his shoulders. Laurie came and inventoried the items for sale, set up the house for the estate sale, and staffed the sale in a way that made us feel comfortable with having strangers going through the house for the sale. She was very knowledgeable in her assessment of the items for sale, and gave good practical advice on pricing things that was proven correct during the sale. She did a great job of advertising, highlighting those items most likely to bring people in to take a look at the sale. After the sale, Laurie was very conscientious about making sure the house was completely cleaned out and ready for the final sale of the home. We did not have to come back in to do any followup cleaning, which, again, was a big relief. Overall, Laurie was incredibly professional and really provided a very high value for the money we spent on her services. She communicated well on where things stood throughout the process, which helped because we do not live in DC and did not want to be constantly driving into town to figure out what was going on. We would have happily just paid her to take care of cleaning out the house, and instead she sold enough to cover the costs of her service and return money to the estate beyond that! It was so much less of a hassle than it would have been to move items out to a traditional auction house (and then have to do the remaining cleanup ourselves), and we think that the money made for the estate in the end was equal to or more than it would have been if we had taken that approach.
Description of Work: Laurie ran an estate sale for my mother-in-law's estate for us over a weekend in October. She then handled disposal/charitable contribution of everything left in the house, and left the house in spotless condition.

I hired Mission Transition to handle an estate sale at my parent's large home of 40+ years in Fairfax County. I interviewed five companies and chose Mission Transition - and am very glad that I did. They handled everything from start to finish; staging, pricing, advertising, sales, disposal, clean-up. The sale was very successful, we got rid of nearly everything and Mission Transition brought in more money than I anticipated. Their promotions were on target, with a steady stream of buyers. The team was very hard-working; they even added an extra day to the sale, since the Monday after the sale was a federal holiday. What a relief for me to have this stressful job handled competently. I would say this was a job well done.
