The in-store experience was quick and efficient. I was very pleased that he could get someone to install the runners in two days time. The installers were not very professional at all. One of them called to tell me that no one was at the house, although my husband was there. When I called back, he just laughed and hung up. In the end, all the work was satisfactory completed.

We have read the report that you have given us. I tried to contact you regarding the installers professionalism but the number I have is disconnected. With our apologies our installer had recorded a joke message on his cell phone and if you were to call that number and wait till the end of the message you will hear the beep. He did not answer that call or he would have been very polite as they always are. again my apologies in this case, I have instructed him to clear that message. hope you change your mind about the "F" that you gave him. thanks again for your business. The purchase was very quick and efficient. The owner welcomed me as soon as I walked in the store. I explained what I wanted and needed, he helped me find something suitable quickly, and the entire purchase process was done within 20 minutes, literally. He honored a discount for Angie's List. My concern was with the timing of the installation. They knew I wanted a weekend. However, I was not called until Friday afternoon to try and schedule for the next day, Saturday. I already had plans, so this was impossible. Instead we scheduled for a week later. I was told they would be there to complete the installation (not just arrive) between 8 and 10am. However, I didn't hear from anyone until 9:45, and they didn't arrive until 10:15. Mind you, I live less than 10 minutes drive from the store. Aside from poor punctuality, the installation took about 90 minutes, was efficient, clean, and well done. Overall, I'm fairly satisfied.

Carpet Express was my third quote. I was shown my options and then surprised to see I could get an upgrade for less. Hamid was great to work with and I received exactly what I wanted. The carpet was a little late coming in on the truck but that was unavoidable. When the installers arrived, they immediately got to work. Three hours later I was a very happy customer!
Description of Work: Very old carpet was torn out and replaced with beautiful, fresh new padding and carpet. I received a higher grade of carpet and padding for less than two other businesses had quoted for a lower grade. I'll be a return customer when it's time to do the rest of the house!!

I got several quotes and Carpet and Floor Express had the best price for quality carpetting. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and feel that I received a quality carpet installation. I do not see any seams or defects. And the job was completed on time. However, at times, I felt both Hamid and Tony lacked a level of professionalism. That is why I had to rate them as a "B" in that category. Hamid showed up to my place with what I can only explain as an attitude when he showed up to do the estimate. I think he was bothered by the fact that I had someone else doing the hardwood floors while he was there. At the time I did not realize that they did hardwood floors, as well. But what also bothered him was I kept asking for his measurements. He refused to give them to me. I asked how can he give me a quote and not give measurements. He made up a bunch of "stories" as to why he could not and then finally said it's against policy (Tony had to give me the numbers after he turned his measurements in) and that he knew that all I was trying to do was compare him to another quote. To which of course I answered, "EXACTLY! That's why you get multiple quotes!" His behaviour was less than professional in my opinion and I called Tony to tell him about it. Tony tried to be accomodating and explained the "policy" all the while kind of excusing Hamid's behaviour. And then he told me to just come down to the shop that evening and that he would straighten everything out and make sure that I was taken care of. So that evening I load the family into the car and drive from Gaithersburg down to the shop AND TONY WASN'T THERE! I didn't just show up. We actually set a time. See what I am saying about professionalism? Apparently he had to go out to a job. So the kid who was in the shop called Tony on the phone and eventually we worked something out as he told the kid in the shop what to show me and what to charge me for the carpets he was showing. When it came down to the installation, I never saw the guys come in and do it, because I also had painters in the house who let them in. As I said, I am generally pleased with the carpet. My only complaint is that while carrying the carpet (or installing) they scratched up my newly painted walls. Nothing too major, but the painter did feel the need to point it out. I called Tony and left a message that I would be calling him if they (the painters) charged me extra to fix the paint job. They fixed everything free of charge, so Tony never heard from me. It would have been nice to hear from him; maybe offering an apology, but that never happened. It may sound like I am complaining a bit much given the rating that I gave, but I believe it is true that you get a great bang for your buck by using Carpet & Floor Express for carpetting. Just be prepared to deal with some unprofessionalism, at times.

We found out about Carpet & Floor Express from Angie's list and shceduled for an on-site measurement/estimate. Before the measurement day we stopped by the showroom and talked with Tony. He was very nice to talk to and gave us very good price on the two types of carpet we chose (at that time we were planning to have someon else do the woodfloor). He convinced us to put down 50% as deposit (seems many people ended up doing that). Hamid came on the scheduled day to do the measurement. After that it took us a very long time to finalize the plan (since we were doing a whole house remodeling and had to see how much other things cost to determine the budget for flooring). We kept Tony updated during the process and he never tried to push us or give us any pressure to make a decision. He also gave some advice and talked us out of doing things that are not very practical. A few weeks later when we finally decided on the few major projects and decided to put carpet in only two bedrooms (for Tony to do) and put hardwood floor in all other rooms that had carpet before and sand the current wood area. We decided to let another contractor do the hardwood project (who also did our three bathrooms). So we went to Tony's store to finalize the plan with him and get the extra money back since he would only do two bedrooms, which would cost much less than we originally paid for. When Tony learned that we were going to have another contractor do the hardwood area, he offered a very good price and eventually convinced us to have him do it. The whole project took about two weeks to finish. Because we both had to work and couldn't be at the house (we didn't move into the house until everything was finished) to check every day because it was about 30 minutes away from where we were living before, there were a few occasions that things were not done exactly the way we wanted, but Tony was always very responsive and fixed the problem quickly and now our floor looks great. We worked with quite a few contractors this past summer to work on the house, I can say that Tony's custom service is definitely the best. It is very clear that customer satisfaction is very important to him and he always tries his best to make his customers happy, which I think is very important. There are many contractors who can do the same job as well as Tony's guys or maybe even better, but many lack the kind of custom service skills that Tony has. One of the contractors we interviewed for the floor project got very upset with me for keep changing plans he became very rude at the end - his price was pretty good and I'm sure he would do a good job but of couse he did not get the job. All in all it was a great experience working with Tony and we would definitely put him on the top of our list when we are ready to work on the basement.

Wonderful service. Tony was great to work with. We had some unusual circumstances with our seller that prevented early access to the house for measurements. Tony was able to give me a really close quote based on floor plans we had obtained and then had someone out as soon as we closed to take the formal measurements so we could get the carpet / flooring put in right away, before we moved our furniture in to the house. He was very accommodating of our circumstances and I found his prices to be very competitive among the other places I received quotes.

Based on the outstanding reviews on Angie?s List and the manufacturer?s listing, I visited Carpet and Floor Express in April and Tony greeted me warmly. We discussed my need to replace the 25 year-old carpet in the living room/dining room/stairs/hall and master bedroom. Tony recommended a Mohawk carpet which was running a special at the time. He gave me a quote based on average size rooms, the promotion and an Angie?s member discount. I gave a non-binding deposit, took samples home, and arranged for an in-home measurement which would finalize the order. The next day Hamid took the in-home measurement, I selected a color, and the order was placed. As I didn?t hear from Tony regarding the status of the order for almost 8 weeks, I called to inquire. I still needed some carpentry work done before carpet installation and wanted to determine when the work was scheduled to be done. Tony told me the carpet was due to be in the next day and I should call him when I?m ready for installation. I called again a week later and we arranged for installation for June 13. My husband stayed home to oversee the installation, and when I returned from work that day, the carpet looked wonderful. I was very happy. Within the week I wrote a report for Angie?s List giving Carpet and Floor Express an A rating. The day after submitting the report online, I noticed that one seam in the living room (running horizontally across the room in front of a doorway) and two seams in the bedroom (one in the doorway and one running horizontally across the room) were popping. It was a Sunday, but I immediately called the store. I explained the situation to Hamid and he said Tony would get back to me. I contacted Angie?s List and asked that the report I wrote the day before not be submitted until I see the outcome of the repairs needed. The next day, Monday, I did not hear from Tony so I called the store again. Tony answered and was very quick to say ?yes, I got the message and we?ll take care of it.? He seemed to want to end the conversation. As he didn?t offer a timeframe for the repairs, I continued the conversation mentioning that I was having furniture delivered on Saturday so I was anxious to get the repairs done immediately. I asked him why the seam ran horizontally in a high traffic area. He said that it depends on the floor print and size of the room. He said he couldn?t answer the question because ?the paperwork had not been turned in yet.? I told him that I wrote a very good report for Angie?s List. He thanked me, to which I responded, ?I asked that the report not be posted until you have made repairs.? That seemed to change his attitude, and he asked when I?d be available for the installers to return. The installers, Jose and Ariel, returned the next evening at 6:30pm to repair the seam in the living room. I asked why the seam was horizontal in the middle of the room where there would be high traffic rather than in a doorway or parallel to a window where furniture would be placed. Jose told me it was so there would be no seams in the dining room. This did not make sense to me because the living room would have more traffic than the dining room which is smaller. Jose said that if the seam popped again, ?it was the carpet?s fault.? Since it was evening, there was no time to make the repairs in the bedroom. Two days later Tony called to let me know the reason the seams popped was because the installers used the wrong tape. They have to purchase their own tape and bought the wrong one for this job. We made arrangements for the installers to return the following week. I reminded Tony that I also had new bedroom furniture delivered after the carpet was installed (before the seams popped). I expressed my displeasure at the service and concern as to whether or not Jose and Ariel were capable of moving the heavy furniture without damaging it. I told him they did some minor damage to the dining room furniture which we hadn?t noticed originally. The bedroom furniture was only a week old and had been placed in the room by professional furniture deliverers. Tony said he?d ?take care of it.? I also told Tony that I would like a copy of all my paperwork as I hadn?t gotten any. He asked what I meant by ?paperwork?. I told him I hadn?t received any paperwork showing what carpet was installed. I wanted the manufacturer?s warranty as well as my credit card receipts. On June 27, Jose, Ariel and a third installer arrived 30 minutes after the window time they gave. We were not notified that they were running late. During the week between the first repair and this second repair, a seam in the hallway also popped. This made a total of four seams that popped within 2 weeks. When they arrived we asked them what they were going to do about the bedroom furniture, and they said they would move it. We said told them we are requiring they sign a waiver that any damage to the furniture will result in Carpet and Floor Express having to reimburse us for the total price of the bedroom set. I also asked about my paperwork which they didn?t seem to know anything about. Per our suggestion, they called Tony and after talking to him one of them went out to the truck and brought in an envelope which contained the paperwork. Jose informed us that Tony said the waiver was okay. My husband then called Tony to get his verbal approval so there would be no misunderstanding as to what his crew was signing and their responsibility. Tony said that was no problem because he was insured. He also said he?d send his partner over to oversee the work. Hamid arrived and again told us that it was defective tape that caused the problem. He said we should walk on the carpet, vacuum it, and allow the carpet to settle to see if there are any other problems. We asked again why the carpet was laid in such a way as the seam in the living room ran across the room in a high traffic area. He said the seams have to go somewhere and it doesn?t make any difference on the wear of the carpet where the seams are. He said the seams are more noticeable because this particular carpet had a short pile. The installers were at our home for over 3 hours to make these repairs. The seams were redone, but they are still noticeable. Four weeks later after using the carpet and vacuuming it, we noticed that the carpet edges on the stairs were ragged and did not meet the wall. We contacted Tony on July 25 via voicemail and e-mail asking that he come to the house to see the problem. The next day he responded with a one-line e-mail asking us to send him pictures. We responded that his response was unprofessional and his request was unreasonable as pictures would not accurately depict the problem. We again asked Tony to come to see for himself and honor his commitment. Tony arrived the next evening (an hour past the expected window). He told us the carpet on the stairs was ?cut perfectly straight? and the problem was that our ?walls are not straight.? He again explained that the problem is the Mohwak carpet pile is very short so you tend to see more than a carpet with higher pile. He told us that after vacuuming the stairs we need to brush the carpet up against the wall. We disagreed as not all the stairs had the ragged edge. He told us the carpet is perfectly straight and if he were to pull it off and redo it, we would have the same problem because of the crooked wall. At that point we just didn?t want to deal with him any more. The explanation that a carpet is cut ?perfectly straight? and then installed on a staircase but is cut to the walls in a room (what room has perfectly straight walls?) is incredible. We purchased from Carpet and Floor Express based on Angie?s List recommendations, and we purchased this particular Mohawk carpet based on Tony?s recommendation. Tony?s reasons for the installation problems were that the wrong seam tape was used, that this particular Mohawk carpet has a short pile which makes the seams noticeable, that the carpet on the stairs was cut straight, and our house has crooked walls. Based on the reports on Angie?s List, I expected outstanding service from sale to installation. Tony provided good customer service for the point of sale (a few points get deducted because he did not initiate the follow-up for installation) and the initial installation. His grade fell for his indifference to our concerns, and it fell even further at the point he told us the problem was our ?crooked walls? and there was nothing he could do. Carpet and Floor Express installation warranty is for 1 year. I am posting my experience to Angie?s List and informing Mohawk that I am not impressed with their product nor their recommended dealer.
Description of Work: Carpet and Floor Express replaced my 25-year old carpet in the living room, dining room, staircase, upstairs hall and master bedroom. They removed the old carpet and pad and installed new pad and Mohawk carpet. They cleaned up afterwards and hauled the old carpet.

Response from Carpet & Floor Express Inc
I would like to respond to this report by first saying that the installers did not purchase the wrong tape, but the tape that was used was defective from the supplier and this could be confirmed. You are correct to say that the seams popped up and the reasoning was because the tapes were defective, but your problem was taken care of quickly. as far as the timing of installation you originally told me that you had other work that needed to be done and I asked you to call me when you were ready, therefore I did not ignore you for a month before your installation. with all due respect I have done this for over 22 years and there have been problems with some installations (no one is perfect) for different reasons but we have always responded to them. You made this project a little bit harder than it should have been, based on your review you had originally given us an A rating till the seams showed, do you think that we intentionally used bad tape in your home. I have responded to your every need in a timely manor. some problems (seams) that could have been fixed were taken care of even though you made it very difficult for us to take care of them for example asking to have extra people to move the furniture where my regular crew is more than capable to move your furniture, asking for a waiver, or timing our exact arrival of installation crew or me personally. I gave you a 2 hour window to visit you and you took the early time of that and say that I was late for one hour which is not true. As far as your steps, you have about 12 steps and they were all cut and covered from the same carpet at the same time, but if you look at them only a couple have a small gap to the wall that problem is with your wall and not the installation and you can verify that. As far as the seam in the living room it was put in that spot because if you put the seam in the other direction, then there would be an extra seam in the dinning room as the carpet has to be run in the same direction and we want to eliminate seams as much as possible for the same reason that seams on a low pile dense carpet will show.I do not wish to make this a war of words and I am still willing to do anything in my power to correct any problems but at the same time I wish you would look at this situation as something that was not our fault either and don't give us a bad name where its not necessary. Thanks again for your business and for your review and hope to be able to take care of any and all of your concerns. thanks again.

We needed a new carpet to cover the exact same square footage, in our family room, as our existing one did as the stained, wood floor under the carpet had faded. We were unable to find the same size carpet, already bound, in any of the stores we went to. We searched on Angie's List for names of carpet places that could custom make a carpet and went with Carpet and Floor Express Inc. They were very helpful in directing us to various choices and then narrowing our choice down when we explained exactly what we wanted in the carpet for this room. We chose to have the carpet delivered and installed, as it needed to go under some heavy furniture. It looks awesome!

We worked with Tony. He was very helpful and patient with us as we looked for the right carpet. It is not an easy process and we appreciated the time he devoted to us. He allowed us to take samples home with us to see how they'd look in our house. He gave us a good price we felt and our master bedroom looks much better than it did before. I'd definitely use Carpet & Floor Express again.

Tony could not have been a better person to work with. Not only was he very helpful in making the right carpet selection, he was also very insistent about making sure we got the best price. The experience in the store was easy, decisive and quick. Tony even charmed our little four year old which gave us some time to make a decision. Hamid came out to the house within a couple of days to do the final measure and he was extremely polite and professional, both traits which were nice to experience. Shortly there after, Jose and another installer (sorry I forgot his name) came out and installed the carpet. The installers were WONDERFUL. They were so professional and neat. The basement looks absolutely wonderful. I could not say enough about how perfect our experience with Carpet and Floor Express was. Don't bother going anywhere else, save yourself the hassle of comparison shopping, and just visit Tony.

Very professional. I didn't use this company but I will next time. I used their competitor and regret it. Punctual with calls backs and estimates. A "B" only because you have to make carpet companies compete and they don't like to do that. It's like buying a bed, everyone has the same thing just custom labeled for their shop. This company has access to all the labels and after a little prying, they were very straight fwd. Again, I regret not using them and will do so next time!

I found Carpet Express on Angie's List and was impressed by the favorable reports. I went to their showroom in Rockville, MD and Tony rapidly narrowed my search, pressing Mohawk's Everstrand carpet as an excellent buy - noting that prices were due to rise soon. Tony was smooth, articulate and persuasive. Another representative came to the house to measure both the upstairs and also the downstairs that I was also considering for carpet. I called and asked Tony if he could come out himself and discuss carpet selections for the downstairs, but he dissembled saying his partner usually covered the DC area. Carpet Express sent their installers out on time for the carpet upstairs, and they were pleasant and worked steadily. I had already had the carpet taken up by a contractor so they only had to take up carpet from the hallway. Following installation, the installers were very pleasant about placing two beds, two desks and a handful of small tables where I directed. I tipped them for this service. The carpet looks very nice and is acceptable. However, it feels uneven in places and somewhat "mushy" underfoot in several other areas. It's something I can live with, but I wouldn't call it A quality. Soon after completion, I mentioned this to Tony both on the phone and again on a subsequent trip out to the Rockville store. I felt he brushed aside my concerns with various quick comments that ranged from "Live with it for a month and see if it settles," to "Well if the floor was uneven, we couldn't be responsible," and finally to "If it really bothers you, I suppose we could come out, take up the carpet and cut a hole in the padding and replace it." Because I was still interested in the carpet itself, which I think is a reasonable quality, I asked a couple of times if I could buy just the carpet and have my own contractor install it. Tony was quick to discourage that saying his installers were the best, and why would I want to contemplate such. I didn't bother to mention that I had had to have my contractor come out and rehang my folding louvered closet doors after the installers had taken the doors off and rehung them so they no longer opened without wrenching. Considering that I have antique furniture downstairs, and that indeed the floor might be uneven (though it seems fine under the aged carpet I currently have), I've decided to use someone else for recarpeting my entire downstairs.

Carpet installation went perfectly--great quality work and product. There were some problems with the initial installation of the wood laminate flooring (torn moldings, gaps), which prompted an initial negative review here. In response to the review, Tony (store owner) contacted us and promptly arranged to have the problems fixed. We are now very happy with our new floors. Tony bent over backwards to make sure we were happy.
Description of Work: Removed carpeting, hardwood flooring, and tile throughout first floor and installed high-end wood laminate flooring. Removed carpeting from stairs, and installed new carpet.

Response from Carpet & Floor Express Inc
I would first of all want to appologize for the bad experience that you had, but I would like to also respond to it. First of all you repeatedly say that I did not remember you and acted that I did not know you, this is never the case but you have to understand that We have lots of customers and when someone calls I can not remember every one so asking for the invoice number is not disrespecting you its just a way of finding and remembering the specifics of your job. My installer completed your job as promised, you paid the balance and were happy, I did not hear from you till a few weeks later and I sent my installer to repair the problem, again he was done and you let him go thinking that he had completed your repair. I did not hear from you for a while untill you called again regarding the laminate shrinking next to the wall, I came over and inspected it and agreed with you (sometimes laminate will shrink or expand excessively and may need to be adjusted). I sent my installer back to fix everything for a second time and I never heard back from you. If there were still problems and you were unhappy with the installer's repairs you should have just called me and I would have come there while the installer was still there to remedy the situation, instead you wait for one year and give me my ONLY bad review on angies list which will have a direct effect on my business and I don't think that is fair. I am still willing to take care of any problems that you may still have. We are a small family owned business and we take pride in customer satisfaction or I would not even respond to you. Again I would like to appologize for the headaches we caused you and if you would like I will come to your house with my installer or pay for someone else of your choosing to take care of your problems. Remember if I do not know abouth your problems with the installation I can not try to fix the problems. I thank you for your review and hope that I will be given the opportunity to correct any problems that you may still have with our installation. thank you. Tony

After seeing their excellent rating on Angie's list, I went to the store to discuss carpeting for a bedroom. They suggested a remnant which would be more economical. They had several large remnants of excellent quality. They did a very professional job with installation and my husband and I are extremely pleased. We will certainly use their services again when we need carpet or flooring and we have already recommended them to other people. One thing we especially liked was they didn't hassle us about removing the old carpet.

The service in store was great. The price seemed fair. The installers were punctual and courteous. The work was seemed up to standard although my experience with carpet is limited. All and all it was a positive experience that went off without any major hitches which is what I'm looking for in a contracting job.
Description of Work: We went to the showroom and the owner was helpful in choosing carpet. We set a date and had the carpet installed

All in all, everything went very well and we absolutely love our new carpet. Now we're thinking of doing some other rooms. If we do, we'll definitely go back to Carpet and Floor Express.
Description of Work: Carpet and Floor Express sold and installed carpet for our family room, stairs and upstairs hallway. The experience was excellent from the moment we walked in the door of their Rockville store. They were very clear about their pricing, our options, and the overall cost. Their price was the best by far. The man who came out to measure was very professional, courteous and helpful. Their installers arrived just a little late (less than an hour, no big deal) and went right to work. They were very professional and courteous. They removed the old carpet and hauled it away and cleaned up after the job was done.

Everything went very well. The laborers came on time and within five hours had put in 97 square yards of carpeting. And they moved the furniture that was too big to move out of the basement and then replaced it as I requested. My only complaint was that they did not bring a vacuum to clear the floor of any debris before they started laying the pad. I asked them to sweep and I used my (non-professional) vacuum to get the edges. I would suggest that anyone laying new carpet, vacuum and wash the floor the day before the installation.
Description of Work: I walked in to the showroom and Tony and I discussed what I was looking for and what options I had for re-carpeting my basement. It was easy and professionally done.

I shopped around and really liked Tony at Carpet and Floor Express. His customer service was excellent and had great and diverse products. 2 thumbs up!
Description of Work: They refinished 2 floors of hardwood and stained, and installed carpet. They had a better selection of carpets for my tight budget then the other stores I visited. They also matched my refinishing quote from a competitor. Great customer service!

We met with Tony to select carpeting for the upstairs and stairway, as well as laminate flooring for our kitchen. Since these materials were needed as part of a major house remodel, he then coordinated with our contractor about pricing, dimensions, and scheduling the installation. That coordination appears to have gone smoothly, even though we added a carpet runner that our contractor was not expecting. We were very happy with the large number of samples and found a color and texture that works well at hiding dirt in a household with a small child and pets. The laminate has held up very well over the past year. We are also pleased overall with the installation of the carpet, although I might go with a higher quality of carpeting material next time.
Description of Work: Supplied and installed carpeting (c. 800 sq. ft., including a stairway runner) and laminate flooring (c. 150 sq. ft.).

They were great, and the work turned out well. They had a much bigger selection than other places that I had been to. They listened to me and understood what I wanted. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.
